How Do Barcodes Work?

- Barcodes are all around us, but how do barcodes work? We are all pretty use to them, the most common usage of them being for when we are shopping so products can quickly be scanned instead of them having to be manually entered them POS systems.
So how does this seemingly simple technology work, and how are the white and black bars converted into numbers? Find out in our latest video and be sure to subscribe!
I thought that upload notificiation was a joke... I remember saying this on the last video, but please don't disappear again for a long time... enjoying the vids
Has been a while, but I am still around! My latest video is taking a look on how barcodes are turned into numbers. Be sure to check it out!
Hope to see a new video soon from you.
Still waiting for it
Beautiful explanation. There is another one on UA-cam which is just wildly confusing, but this one made much more sense and seems to show more (with the encoding part) than many others which don't even mention L-Digits, G-Digits and R-Digits. Thanks.
That could be due to UPC and EAN (mentioned at start of video) being encoded differently? (not an expert, ignore me if i'm misinformed)
May just of been me or possibly the accent but this went over my head.
Very good tutorial of barcode working information.
Clear and consise!

If you add a 0 to the beginning of an US upc it’ll be converted into EAN
Great video it would be cool to see one about QR codes. I don't really see much of a pattern in them to try and work out how they even work in the first place
I'd enjoy a video on this too. Though I do feel as though QR codes ended up being a fad - i see them around but hardly ever feel the need to actually use them.
They use BCH codes and mainly Reed-Solomon codes for error correction, which helps recover data even part of the code is danaged. Involves Galois field theory, which can be interesting as well as boring.
Makes sense. amazes me how someone even thought up that whole l g r digit thing
I don't fully understand the reasoning of why there needs to be the different types of digits, but there obviously is a reason, could have been a good part of the video just briefly covering the reasoning.
I more don't get why the 13 digit version uses L, R, G, but the 8 doesn't. i get that it has less numbers/bars etc, but why does that stop the need of needing the left side encoded as L and G's?
Something so boring, actually has a lot to it
Explains the numbers but leaves out how scanning the code works.
Or how the prices are changed
Once I learn, all products I will be scanning at the self check out will be on sale for 1 $ with buy 1 get 1 free hahaha
