I've been looking to do something about a backup camera for my Tundra forever- so glad you guys did a vid on it. You guys have a great channel, thanks for making something I can enjoy watching.
Great video guys! I just put my backup camera and monitor in my 2007 Tundra per your instructions and it works great! Toyota is awesome to have already pre-wired it. I appreciate you posting this and also learning from your tips (and mistakes). The trickiest part for me was trying to get that little gear out of the console where the sunglasses holder was - push it in, don't try to pull it out, lol. Love the accents too. Thanks again!
@@singplumb I purchased the camera from TailgateCamera.com. It's great because I emailed them with my year Tundra and told them I was planning to use the factory wiring harness under the bed near the spare tire and they made sure that I had enough wire to make the connection. They also included the clips to keep the wiring loom in place like the factory would have used. I bought the new handle off Ebay, although I probably should have just bought that too from Tailgatecamera - they sell it as a package with the camera for a few dollars more. I also bought the flip-down style console monitor from an Ebay seller as well. I just wish that monitor screen was a bit larger, but that's the way Toyota did it back then and I wanted to keep it as stock as possible and keep the original stereo. If you need part numbers let me know. Good luck!
Since your vehicle gets to see a lot of road salt you should put some dielectric grease in the connector under the vehicle to prevent it from getting too much salt and moisture in there. :)
Sometimes heating the plastic to mend it the way you anneal metal or glass works better than glue. Otherwise I would glue another piece of plastic behind it to strengthen it. I noticed you held the key when you started your truck. It's funny how many people do this on Toyota's when it's not needed. Toyota's have an electronic start which is just like the push start only with a key. I know it's a hard habit to break. I still remind my wife when she drives my Tundra.
If appearance is not a factor (as in your case) what I have done on more than a few occasions is the following: 1.Crazy glue it to hold the pieces in position 2. Melt intact paper clips into the plastic until level with surface (if the material isn't too thin for this. 3. Re-tin your soldering iron tip for the next 10 or so minutes.
What brand of camera was it? I have a back up camera that is stock, but it keeps cutting out. Don't need the screen, just the camera. Also, you guys have a great attitude and I appreciate y'all's joy in your videos. Thanks.
The camera is the one that was included with the Ebay kit, if you click the listing in our description it may have some info but I think you may be better off finding an aftermarket one that is very similar to OEM.
Hi, I removed the overhead console (11 tundra CM) but I dont have that white harness hookup to the left, only the black one to the right. I'm guessing mine is located behind the head unit?
FYI. If you have a homelink mirror this application will not work. The connectors are different. If you get a mirror with the monitor in it, plug & play. I learned this the hard way.
I am about to buy a fusion wifi camera system for my trailer which comes with a monitor. Can I use the monitor you are showing, maybe with a switch, to change from one wireless back up camera to the one on my tailgate? I also want to put a camera on the front of the truck which is lifted 6"?
I just got a 2009 Tundra and was thinking about doing this, but I can't find the wiring connector for the camera. You really don't give any detail on where it is located. Can you tell me where to find it? I really hope that mine has the wiring.
The wiring is located in the back underneath the bumper area as we somewhat show in the video. In the cabin its in the top left corner when you take the center section off.
Anyone know where I can get the entire camera and display package now, Feb 2021. Have a 2007 Tundra SR5, relatively low mileage, I hope it will be my forever truck. Present system is unreliable, and requires manual activation of screen. If you forget to turn it off, if you don't drive for a couple of days (I'm retired), it kills the battery.
We thought about doing that, but decided we'd wait and see if the tab was important enough to warrant such elaborate surgery. Turns out it's pretty much useless, so we didn't bother giving it the Six Million Dollar Tab repair job ;)
Make a small channel where crack lies. Take a zip tie and place it in the channel and melt it. As soon as it solidifies sand it down flush. Should help with this issue.
That long pinchy thing for "extracting hard to get objects." We had a ton of pen sized versions of those in our high school computer class. We would clip them on the back of the teacher and each other's clothes when they weren't looking it was pretty funny. The teacher got so upset about it. She said if she found one more on herself there would be big trouble. The next time she found one on herself she seriously freaked out and sort of had a breakdown. Nobody ever clipped one on her again. Good times.

Jim Fred I just picked up a 2008 Tundra, where did you get your parts?

You guys really crack me up. I don't laugh this hard watching any other YT shows.
soldiering iron and some cable ties melt the cable ties kinda like tig welding. works ever time
Kind of like TIG welding lol that is actually a brilliant idea.
Guess who owns a tundra and who's needs a back up camera.

That's a good call.
tamiya cement fuses plastic to plastic together and they have different strengths and such for future reference!
oh man.. you make me want to sell my 4runner and get a tundra... she looks so comfy yet offroad ready!

All great options! Thanks.
Entertaining as hell and very informative.
Good plastic welding.. Works great!
Or send it back for damaged shipping
Great video, entertaining too. I even watched the parts I have done before and know how to do because you guys are funny.
Thanks!
that ball looked super easy to guide
I would never get that backup camera after watching this, but, I did laugh my balls off 🤣, you 2 are a friggin hoot.
Q bond for that tab. It's just a super glue with a plastic powder filler. I've fixed a lot of mounting tabs with it.
Cool, will have to check that stuff out.
Where does one get this mysterious product called Q Bond?
This is dope! Thank you so much brothers 💯
superglue and baking soda. put the superglue on, get set where want, put baking soda over. it turns rock solid immediately.
Those grabber tools always remind me of the thing Arnie sticks up his nose to get the tracking device out of his head in Total Recall.
That is all.
that plastic can be welded very easy... melt it with a solder iron or a special plastic welder if you feel like buying a tool
J.B.Weld is usually my "adhesive" of last resort.
Acetone will melt the plastic, you could use it to melt the two pieces back together.
It's always a good feeling when you can wiggle it in first try
Do you have wiring diagram for installing display on toyota tundra? I need to find colors of the wires.

You guys are too funny. Great video. Thinking f doing mine like your guys. Ty
Honestly? I'd probably 'fix' that tab with a soldering iron by melting it together again
Plastic welding...cool idea
This exactly this
came to comment this, simplest solution by far
Yup. plastic weld
Was about to post the same.
run a wire down from the hole then connect/wrap it around the harness and pull it up to you
Plastic weld 👍
holy moly I need this for my tundra!
Yes!! It's the best mod we've done in a while!

When does the weather warm up for you guys? I bet you're more than ready for spring haha
How is the picture quality still a 600 tvl camera from a 90s cell phone?
love your vids guys😄
I just backed into a pole so I need a backup camera in my toyota tundra where can I get the backup monitor
Jb weld or plastic weld if you have a plastic welder
Thanks Guys , Mike
Can’t find this kit on eBay or Amazon. Do you have any info that will help me find it??
Thanks
How the camera holding up still?
Sir, are you folks laced with acid-rain, every time a shower bursts?
Pt and dp True American heroes
you guys keep saying, "suprised, unexpectantly, amazingly" c'mon, it is a Toyota guys!
FYI. If you have a homelink mirror this application will not work. The connectors are different. If you get a mirror with the monitor in it, plug & play. I learned this the hard way.
Where is the factory harness located in Tundras with homelink mirror?
Me too, rear connector but neither behind the upper console!
new tech use it on all my plastic repairs
Do you still have the old wheels?
I'm interested if you're selling!
I have the same truck (canadian model)
What’s the part number for the monitor
any plans on a budget rallycross build? planning to get into it myself as it's the closest and cheapest thing to me for Motorsport
No plans at the moment for a rallycross build, but it is a super fun way to go racing.
Omg it POPS DOWN!!?? 😂 thought i was in need of replacing the screen. Taller ppl cant see the screen my truck.
Will this work on a 2007 Toyota tundra?
With a soldering iron 👍🏻
use J.B. Weller to glue the broken piece
Depending on the plastic, if its PMMA i have a better solution than plastic welding for you.
I am about to buy a fusion wifi camera system for my trailer which comes with a monitor. Can I use the monitor you are showing, maybe with a switch, to change from one wireless back up camera to the one on my tailgate? I also want to put a camera on the front of the truck which is lifted 6"?
It's possible if you can figure out and install a switch between the signals.
All tundras come with this pre wired??

Anyone know how to fix the back up camera when you replace the truck battery? The camera doesn't work now. Hoping there is a reset issue??

Try a plastic welder to fix that tab
Have 2012 tundra cant find the overhead monitor for the backup camera can you help me or give me info where to buy one
I am having the same problem with my 2013. Did you find a solution?
I got a whole 7in In dash android stereo unit with back up cam for $250 bucks
Sir, did you say "simple install"?
13:55 Oi Matey, thats a splash of Canuuk CANdu!!! ;)
Great video, made me laugh
post the link to the product please, I neeeeeed this
www.ebay.ca/itm/252732838699?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Just put two little pieces of metal over and under it broken areas to act like a brace.
We thought about doing that, but decided we'd wait and see if the tab was important enough to warrant such elaborate surgery. Turns out it's pretty much useless, so we didn't bother giving it the Six Million Dollar Tab repair job ;)
Harbor Freight plastic welder for sure.
Not bad!
where u drilled the hole is actually better it looks
no need to fix it, it's just there to hold it in during production assembly, those well-salted M8s take the load
Who needs a backup camera when you have a tow bar lol
Sauder it. Spelling?
Make a small channel where crack lies. Take a zip tie and place it in the channel and melt it. As soon as it solidifies sand it down flush. Should help with this issue.
Use super glue with baking soda.🥤
fiberglass and epoxy
I just thought of 3 better ways of feeding that cable, while you we're struggling XD
Plastic welding with filler plastic and a hot iron.
To bad the F350 that backed into the side of my Camaro didn't have one of these .
plastic weld would be best
Harbor freight plastic welder will fix it
super glue + baking soda
JB Weld
Melt It together

Plastic stapler might work for plastic tab repair. www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-hot-stapler-plastic-repair-system.html
Super glue and baking soda. Just layer it up.
They make plastic welders
JB WELD
Soldering iron
6th
Plastic weld it
That didn’t look easy at all. 🙁
Plastic weld it
