Taylor Hawkins smashed this song out of the ballpark when he sang it at the memorial concert for Chris Cornell... .... how beautiful they spun it full circle for Taylors memorial
Yes, that’s why Taylor Momsen chose this song for Taylor’s tribute…. Beautiful and oh so heartbreaking. Eerily enough, I was at both concerts… and roughly in the same area… it was transcendent, and sublime and oh so soulcrushing to watch all this. It still seems unreal. We miss Chris and Taylor forever. Thank god for the healing power of music.
I wouldn't go that far.... she was a lot more on point, while Hawkins was all over the place.... he has a cool voice, but more in a traditional rock style. That's not to say I found it terrible, but you're exaggerating Taylor Hawkins performance of this song.
I wonder what must be going through Matt Cameron's mind at this moment: he's played this song in this venue with Chris Cornell singing, then again at Chris Cornell's memorial concert with Taylor Hawkins singing, now at Taylor Hawkin's memorial concert...🤯
And don't forget that Cornell's roomate during early Soundgarden days was Andrew Wood who was the singer for Malfunktion and Mother Love Bone who was eventually replaced by Eddie Vedder. Andrew Wood's death really threw a dark pallor over the entire scene and i think forced the focus of the indie rock world to begin focusing on Seattle after the "Athens Sound" and REM etc. began waning. FYI I met Matt C. a couple times the dude was about the most talented drummer in that scene he was a real drummer not a banger like Grohl but could in no way groove or funk like Taylor Hawkins could. I lived through all the Seattle/Portland rock star deaths and remember where I was for each one, including Cobain, Chris, Elliot Smith, Layne Staley, and more obscure folks like Kristin Pfaff and the singer for Blind Melon.
Taylor Momsen of the Pretty Reckless is an absolute force of nature and so underrated. Also Pretty Reckless had opened for Soundgarden that fateful night and she was one of the last people to see Chris Cornell so her singing this is both in honor of Taylor and Chris and she absolutely nailed it! Sound person needed to up the volume on her mic a little though especially during the verses that are a little more subtle. I had the honor of seeing Pretty Reckless open for Halestorm back in 2015 I believe and I knew Taylor Momsen and her band were rising stars.

For anyone unaware, Momsen and The Pretty Reckless were touring/opening for Soundgarden when Chris died. The bands, and the people in general, were close. She sang Black Hole Sun for the last show of that tour before they cancelled it, a couple days after Chris passed. Not saying either is better than the other, just that Chris respected this little girl (quickly becoming a rock goddess) and she idolized him. She deserves to be here.
This is so in accurate words fail me. Chris Cornell never ever mentioned Taylor Momsen once. So to say he respected her is hilarious. Her band open for his band for three freaking tour dates because they share the same management. Not because Chris Cornell was a fan of hers. They also were never friends. She didn’t even meet him until the night he died. She stopped him as he was leaving the venue and thanked him. They spoke for five minutes (her words) And then he left. She was never friends with him. And he certainly NEVER gave any indication he respected her
