I might be getting a corn snake soon and was planning on reusing my old 55 gallon tank from some fish I had. It's about the same size as yours. Everyone I kept asking said that it would be too big for a baby corn snake but you've just confirmed my beliefs. So long as I provide plenty of hiding, they'll be fine. Now I can't wait to get my snake! A bit more research and I'll be ready. Just wanted to say thank you for the videos!
You have very nice setups! Glad to see someone else using CHEs and/or whatever long wave radiant heaters. I have been experimenting with this type of heating, and I must say that it works so well for the types of snakes I have tried it on- namely corns, hognose and boas. And of course, the ambient temps in the room are a huge factor in determining what type of heater might work best. Also the distance between CHE and cage substrate. Lately I have been doing a thicker substrate layer with CHE overhead. Hognose do fantastic in that setup, allowing them to heat up while just below the surface. A dampened terracotta pot is a nice hide under a CHE as well. This is not to say that floor heat is bad or wrong. In nature snakes use ground (mass) heat, so floor heat is very appropriate. I like to see the snake's thermoregulation behavior using overhead radiant heat, and some cages (like wood cages) do not lend themselves well to floor heat w/o mods to the floor or having the heater inside the cage on top of the floor (which I am not a huge fan of.) I have also introduced a UVA light recently, with some dark-colored screen to reduce the intensity. I am just seeing if there will be any difference in the snake's behavior or habits. Most snakes are so secretive that UVA/UVB is likely not a factor, but hoggies are fairly diurnal, so what the heck, giving it a try.
Thanks so much :) in my opinion (and many others) replicating a natural environment by providing overhead heat is beneficial. Yes, the animals enjoy the warm surface of the substrate, however it is natural to burrow to cool down. If you burrow and get warmer, it’s incredibly unnatural and disrupts normal behaviours. Nice to hear you’re experimenting with UV. A few of my snakes have it, and seem to bask early morning, and late afternoon. Apart from a few, who are not shy and will come out to bask periodically throughout the day
Wow, bravo! I love this video. Best care video I have seen, and I have seen a lot lately. I do not have the money to have setups like yours but I will try to take some ideas from your tanks. Thanks for a great video!
I have an 11month old I know that hopeful face ohhh so well, they're like puppies! Mine will follow me from side to side, up and down his viv as I'm feeding my others - the excitement is just too much, he's feeling so many feelings!! I love them at this age; really starting to gain confidence but still have their baby bug eyes. Definitely my favourite little one of yours, declared soft spot for Indie ♡
Ah you've got it spot on mate! They're such cute little things aren't they! Indi has not forgiven me for filming him and not offering him a mouse in return 😂
Hi...great and informative video. We have a bearded dragon and he is just about to be up sized to a 5ft x 3ft x 3ft so I will have a 45" (L) x 17" (H) x 15" (D) vivexotic going spare. Looking to see if this would be suitable for a corn snake? If yes, you mentioned the 28-30 oC basking spot but I couldn't see a basking spot bulb, is the basking spot directly under the CHE or do you use a heat mat? If you do use a heat mat, do you have this at the end with the CHE or the other end? Also...is pulse better than a dimmer thermostat for CHE? Do you have a start to finish setting up vid for a corn snake vivarium? Where do you purchase your vines and branches? Many thanks :)
Hi there, sorry for the delayed reply. That size enclosure is pretty good for a corn snake! I use ceramic heaters on a pulse stat (will be more energy efficient than a dimming stat), so yep, the basking spot is right under that. I don’t use heat mats at all now. I don’t have an up to date start to finish setup video including the enclosure build for corn snakes- sorry! The vast majority of my decor comes from Northampton Reptile Centre or Internet Reptile :)
@@JensensReptiles that's great, many thanks. I already have the habistat 600w high range dimmer, so would that e ok and just swap out the basking bulb for a CHE? Meant to ask, what UVB light do you recommend for this size viv 45" (L) x 17" (H) x 15" (D) (corn snake or pueblan milk snake).
What size are your vivariums? I have my corn snake in a 4ft with a heat mat but I want to change to ceramic heat, I’m not sure my viv is tall enough tho and may need to upgrade, he’s very active and I worry about him wrapping around the bulb case is the case hot?
Hello, great video!! I'm moving my corn from a glass setup to a 4ft long x 4ft high wooden setup and was thinking about heating. I'm anxious about putting a heat mat inside the viv, so I would rather use a bulb, but won't the corn get cold in her hide? And also how long do you keep the heat lamp on for? Where did you get your lamp and protector? Sorry for all the questions, but great vid!! Thanks.
Hey there. Heat mats are generally not the most suitable heat source for reptiles anyway. Think natural- the sun warms the ground rather than heat coming from below. So if a snake wants to cool down, they tend to burrow a little. I use ceramic heaters that are on a pulse proportional stat 24/7. The ones I use are made by white python but there are plenty of brands available.
Hey there! loving your videos! I finally just got a corn snake of my own and I love her! Quick question, the rock-looking hide he's in at the beginning where did you buy that? I've been looking around for the exact looking type of hide but haven't had any luck finding it. Do you have a link to where you got it or can you point me in the direction of a good place with a variety of hides? Any help is appreciate. Thanks!!!

Is there particular types of branches you use in your vivs? And how do you disinfect them before adding them? I’m wanting to add some to mine but want to make sure I won’t add anything that will harm the snakes. Thanks
I use a pretty wide selection of branches. Just no cedar, pine, or anything with sap. I usually steam, soak, or bake my natural decor. Then disinfect with f10

Hi there, thanks so much for watching. I’d buy a heat lamp and have that over the top of the enclosure rather than the heat mat on the side. You want to create some nice ambient temps too. You don’t need to worry too much about humidity with corn snakes. The do well between 40 and 60%. So as long as you’re in that range, you’re fine
PS have you got Opani (don't know if I've got the name right) - your jungle carpet python onto taking rats? Mine just bites them if I try to tempt him into feeding on one - Ie "get out of my space". Percy, my JCP, has become a "mouser": niusance: when he is fully grown, it will be eight mice a week: he's about four feet long, and is on four large mice per week - and would take six if I let him. He sounds like a dream! Mopani turns her nose up at rats. She's happy to take mice or multis weekly, but no rats. I've tried a few different things, but so far no luck!

hey, i have a corn snake that i rescued, its about 2-3 feet, and she has a cage of about 2 1/2 feet long wise and 1 foot wide, how should i keep the humidity and heat up? i have a heat pad on the side of the cage (i have carpet at my house) so i can't put it at the bottom, and just took some sticks from out side peeled and washed them(alos have some fake leaves.) but yea i have the basic things anything other i should have to suit the needs? Thanks!! have a good day love your videos
Get some moss it’s great for keeping humidity
hi friend how did you make wood safe for tank
very nice
Thank you!
My corn snake is named Indy too! He's an anery corn, and he's named after Indiana Jones because of course, Indiana Jones hates snakes
Great name! My Indi is actually called Indigo, thanks to his gorgeous blue eyes :)
good video
Thanks!
I have corn snake who's name is Ziggy too! Similar colour but different morph :)
Oooo awesome! Great name choice 😉
Great video
Thanks :)
Glorious snake!!
He sounds like a dream! Mopani turns her nose up at rats. She's happy to take mice or multis weekly, but no rats. I've tried a few different things, but so far no luck!
What kind of led lighting is that i cant find them only the strips
It’s White Python LED kits
@@JensensReptiles thanks can you use normal led strips theres a big debate on yes or no just wanted your opinion
Depends what species it’s for. They need to be protected against moisture for some animals
Its for corn snakes and a hognose
Then any LED strip should be fine as long as it’s safety checked
How‘s yeeki‘s color called ? ;)
Where did you get all those fake vines from? The leaves look so much nicer than the ones I see here in the US
Exo Terra have some really great vines. I have the same ones that are in this video (I know one of them is a ficus) but I am also from England so it may be a regional thing. Shouldn't see why though
I use Exo terra, Komodo, and swells own brand :)
Hmmm those leaves on the right look awfully familiar... 🔥☘️🤙🏽🤣
Haaahaha
Where do you get your vivarium’s from ?
Is it me or does those plants look like weed
lmao isnt just you 😂😂
