Dude you are the man ! I found you ripping my hair out trying to find a solution for my DC Icons articulation . The fact that you share your work and skills for free very cool man. Thank you.
This is mind blowing, thank you for this tutorial, I've been modifying all my McFarland figures but couldn't figure out the thigh cut, so I plane to try this out on my nightwing, but I have a question, is it possible to make him shorter by trimming some of the top leg before putting it back on, to make him more in scale height wise?
Since I haven't performed that mod personally I can't give you a true answer. I would say that of course it is possible but I'd think you'd have to sculpt in a bit to make the leg to look accurate. If you do attempt it I'd love to see it.
Getting looks for buying half a dozen figures at once as an adult is one thing. When the cashier pauses and takes a second, and third, look after scanning razor blades, black pepper, band aids and super glue - that's a whole different level of what the fuck and judgement. Worth it though since I rarely catch those elusive Wal Mart shelf clearance sales. Thank you for these tutorial videos and live streams. They are a huge help and explained very well. Also... how many angry messages have you gotten from people who have put their toys in the microwave to heat them up? I want to say I'm joking, but the truth is I am hoping there is a story behind that PSA moment.
In my opinion, a big exacto knife works better than a single razor blade. It gives you a little more control! You should try it sometime and see which one's easier!
The engineering if these figures is so weird. They have all the parts to make the thigh turn but for some reason they made the part that enters the thigh and connects to the hips squarish. This keeps the thigh from turning. So odd.
And now I'm doin this to all my dc figs. Maybe if people saw how easy it was to do this, theyd shut up about all the hate on his figs not having thigh cuts.....neca doesnt either and noone complains about that! Boom.
I think the issues are that you have to make the thigh mods yourself so that kinda sucks and NECA figures have functional thigh swivel engineering. That's just my outlook.
I’ve got an MK11 spawn as well as the Kitana. I’m gonna have to go in on both and do this. Spawn especially he’s hindered hardcore from that lack of thigh cut.
Do you have any tips for making the thigh cut at a perfect angle to the peg? I tried this last year with one of their fortnite figures, and both of my cuts were a little slanted, so the leg wanted to pop itself apart as it rotated.
Cut perpendicular along the flat area where the peg inserts. I believe I pointed that out in the video. The inner thigh side has a dip in it and it is flat. That is your guide.
Unfortunately not this method as he is built completely different. You can add thigh swivels though! Check my Nightwing tutorial as it would be similar.
Billy your video is really useful could u share more if there are ways to improve hip joints of the mcfarlane figures as those legs are too close with each other are there simple ways to increase their width?
Great tutorial! It really helps in taking away some of the fear of modding a figure...I would have never thought that this type of mod was possible. Also, I appreciate your opinion on education so get back on that soapbox. Thanks for the information.
Billy, my mind is blown! Using the existing long leg peg to anchor the parts together is beautiful simplicity and function. After watching just this one video, I subscribed. Oh, unparalleled universe recommended this video and brought me here.
Dude! Right!? I still have th conversation where Pharaoh Black and I were discussing modding his Spawn he was ABOUT to receive. I grabbed a Johnny Cage, took him apart, and the rest was history. I actually discovered this method years ago modding a client's power ranger bicep!!!
hey man can you do cutting tutorial on mcfarlane wonder woman gal gadot figure? the thigh really too tall. I just wondering how it works on shortening the thigh. I hope you'll do, thanks.
@@billmaru or maybe you can do tutorial how to shortening leg of dc McFarlane figure? Really appreciate if you can show it :) btw I really enjoy all your tutorial videos 👍🏼
Hello, thank you very much for the tutorial. My question is, can the legs also be separated from the thighs? I have read that many people complain that deathstroke mcfarlane comes with the legs from the wrong side, that is to say the right on the left side and the left on the right side ... Maybe, if it was possible a tutorial on how to fix deathstroke I think that it would be very useful to many people
Well I believe this shows how to do that...kind of. Are you saying the legs are literally backwards? If so you just have to pop off those hip pieces shown here and swap them back. I may be misunderstanding.
I know this is a month late, but I figured I'd say that I believe he's saying don't heat up the water while the figure is in it, especially not in the microwave. Don't microwave your figures.
oh man. i am so glad to find this. i just bought a red hood figure because i was excited for the upcoming munitions packs, but was really disappointed at how stiff the poses are. i looked up if there are other people complaining about the lack of thigh swivels and found this video. lol made wonder why they didn't just do it themselves. the red hood figure has a cut exactly at the center of the connecting peg as if it was supposed to have it.
Hello i want to ask about the thigh cut, i just got red death and i want to add the thigh mods, but im not sure where to cut because of the sculpt can you help?
Great tutorial 👍. After watching this I did it to 3 of my figures; Robin, Red Hood, and this same Joker in the video. I'm sure I'll do it to a few more. Such an easy mod that makes a big difference. Thanks for sharing.
Hey that looks great, I guess this is not the same technique for Legends. I have done some small repairs, like the skinny arms always break on the female legends & sometimes the foot pegs break.
I had tried the thigh mod on my doom figure and butchered it completely... I made other mods to my spawn but avoided the thighs because i was worried about this! Thank you for showing this! I may just try this on my johnny silverhand!
@@billmaru Thanks Bill! I have since done the mod on my Johnny Silverhand and Spawn without much trouble thanks to your method. I feel like if I were to redo the mod on a fresh doom figure I could probably get it done now!
You the man! Love how u answer any questions asked and try help as much as u can. I once asked another customizer how he done something and his reply is pay him and he will do it for me so I ended up figuring it out myself and ended up getting a abusive DM from the customizer for wasting his time? Never asked for a commission and all I asked was for advice but apparently that was wasting this customizers time 🤷♂️
@@billmaru I did that on the McFarlane Doom Slayer. I cut along the costume sleeves and I was lucky to have the peg long enough to hold and work well. Thanks for your videos!

Lol the thigh cut worked but once I shortened it the cut doesn't match, gotta try again, thanks for answering
this best! such inspiration to start doing stuff on your own!

Good luck and you've got this!!!
Is the leg peg removal easier with new figures because I've tried it with both Nightwing and Spawn and its like impossibly hard to remove.
I haven't had an issue with any really. Devastator was a learning process. You need to heat up the thighs really well.
Nice thank you for sharing

Oh boy. That is a new one! Actually yeah you could totally increase the width by extending the pegs that the hip hinges rest on!
Freaking cool lesson.. Its greatly appreciated
Most welcome! Thanks for the support!
How do you charge for education? If people watch your video you get paid
I had no idea what I was talking about. Ha. I'm new to UA-cam's practices really.

How hot do you set your heat gun?
Subbed off the attitude alone, good shit for the community
My man. You have my thanks.
Nice work bud, for me though I would always heat up when removing a leg from a figure, just in case. take some of the stress off the plastic.

That was a great tutorial now that you have blessed me with the knowledge to do it I’m going to finally start collecting McFarland figures
Thanks! Gonna have to do all 3 mods for Nightwing today.
Thank you for the tutorial. I really appreciate you taking the time to show us these mods to these figures. 👍🤓😀😎
That was so much simpler than I expected. This is really awesome.
Hey man I just did this on Gunslinger Spawn in anticipation of putting him on a mythic legions horse. Thanks so much for sharing :)
I just bought the future state Jon Kent Superman, so I'll try this mod, thanks for the great videos and ideas man

u can't Gind A spawn action figure in A thrift Dtore any More
Hello i want to ask about the thigh cut, i just got red death and i want to add the thigh mods, but im not sure where to cut because of the sculpt can you help?
Can I cut it straight with a knife
I only can vouch for the straight razor. Any other method will be at your discretion.
I'll definitely have to try this

I would like to contact you for a commission on my spawn if possible.

I do own one. I'll need to look into it.
Great tutorial thanks for the info.
Adds your own personal touch to the figure. Good stuff
Have you tried this on the Spawn figure? From MK 11?
check my instagram @billmarutoychanics He was the second subject right after I tested this method on Johnny Cage.

Very much appreciated!

Still try it myself
Yoo what type of dremmel do you use?
Thank you. You are such a nice man!
Just wanna say thank you very much for this amazing share

Do you still do repairs, and if so do I need to have the part that needs fixing (wrist peg)?
Also I failed at repairing it so it’s probably a bit more complicated than usual
I had tried the thigh mod on my doom figure and butchered it completely... I made other mods to my spawn but avoided the thighs because i was worried about this! Thank you for showing this! I may just try this on my johnny silverhand!
All it takes is practice! Just find a cheaper figure to test your straight cuts on that may be made of similar plastic and size!

Can this trick work for a biceps cut as well?
If you want a straight cut then I imagine, but I'm betting you'd have to add a peg.
