One thing that immediately comes to mind just a minute into this video: I see DC Multiverse figures in actual stores. I'm talking about Walmart and Target, but also my local comic shops. Major retailers have their DC sections well stocked, and the local comic stores I visit have their walls lined with them. On the other hand, whenever I visit a Walmart or Target the Hasbro sections, particularly Marvel Legends, Star Wars Vintage Collection, and Star Wars Black Series, are almost entirely vacant. Sometimes there are just one or two peg warmers, and the stores rarely put out new stock. It's not because they're selling so fast that they can't keep the shelves stocked, it's as if Hasbro just isn't sending them anything. When I asked my local sonic shop owner why he doesn't carry any Marvel Legends, he said the profit margin is so slim on anything Hasbro that small shops don't really bother with them. Hasbro has a serious distribution problem. I'm not saying that this alone accounts for DC being on top, but I think it's certainly a contributing factor.
This is perfectly true but gold label editions are super hard to find especially when they just include a light up feature. Idk if the mcfarlane being in stock means they keep putting new stock on shelves after being bought or that they don’t sell. I think it’s a mix but leaning towards the second choice.
So let me get this straight people are saying that Marvel Legends are peg warmers because you see them all the time stocked but I see DC figures all the time couldn't that be considered peg warmers? Please don't play with words to fit an agenda I'm sick of the Batman fetish from Todd McFarlane
Biggest fundamental strengths and weaknesses for each: McFarlane Strength: Almost always a new sculpt Weakness: Lousy articulation and accessories. Legends Strength: Superior engineering/articulation Weakness: Ridiculous and shameless redecos and high price points.
I feel like hasbro cares more about the collector with the alternate heads packed in; you have to pay more but with the dc figures if you want an alternate head you have to pay full price
With me (Josh) being new to DC Multiverse figs, I didn't realize that many of the ones that came with baf parts cost more. I wouldn't have graded their pricing as high had I known that. We will probably be doing a Q&A follow up soon. Let me know anything you want covered.
@@fanaticnow2829 that’s another good point. I have something for your Q&A: what else would you like to see haslabs to take on for marvel legends and do you think vehicles will show up at any point?
Yea but isee it as mcafarlane cares more about the figure as hasbro fix their figures but in a rerelease very scummy As mcfarlane don't re release they listen to what their fans say about the last figure and fix the new one for example The Flash Rebirth the balljoints Are TRASH The Flash CW
I personally prefer DC Multiverse. They have newer body molds, more sculpt detail & they're bigger so more bang for your buck. Legends keeps reusing body molds from almost 10 years ago & are charging more for it.
Sure but Mcfarlane also has examples of even greedier tendencies. To get an alternate hand for The Batman movie figure you needed to buy a whole new item (his bag cycle) and it came with a single fist hand. Much worse quality control, accessories 80% nonexistent, and while they makes new sculpts it’s a 50/50 chance that the proportions will be ridiculous. Let’s not forget the terrible character selection
Yes, but him having different body molds is now having some figures towering over either certain Batman figures, or Batman, towering over everyone like the Hush Batman plus only one I had scoped for 2999 action figure and hardly any accessories? Nah sorry fam one has to be buggin in the head there So I still prefer marvel legends any given Sunday
Im new to action figure collecting but so far I like the mcfarlane toys way more. Theyre cooler, more original and even cheaper than the Marvel legends figures. I just bought the Batman speeding bullets and I cant wait to get it!
I’m always curious as to why some people only end up liking only marvel or dc, with maybe a short experience with the other one. I grew up experiencing both, so the very few figures i do have are a mix.
I have no issues with the marvel legends but I don't collect them. Walked away from marvel after Disney took over and refuse to release any of the 90s animated series on Blu ray. I'm a DC collector and especially a Batman collector but I think if you get down to it, the way Todd has done the multiverse figures most lined up with a comic series that was coming out or just came out which is why their is alot of Batman. I'm guessing DC is having a say in what he does.
That's a very good point. We already know Warner Bros is very strict on what is made and what is not; just look at Justice League. I am sure they have a few more people to answer to than Hasbro. -Bryton
I have to agree, I buy Legends, because I have always been more of a fan of Marvel comics, and they are making a lot of stuff from my era. However, McFarlane figure do have a certain grandeur that Marvel are failing at. plus the price point is becoming very clear. Hasbro have the skill to do the more impressive sculpts, just look at some of the G.I. Joe classified offerings, but with the last offerings including Vipers for £30 per figure, i think Hasbro will start to lose buyer. as you said in your video, Hasbro need to wake up as companies such as McFarlane and Valaverse have caught up with them.
Great video guys. Sincere and funny as always. I am a D list fan so I want to see Doom Patrol, Metal Men, Legionnaires, Freedom Fighters and Constantine not Bat after Bat after Bat. I get it he sells, but Marvel Legends makes Wolverines, Deadpools, Spideys and Iron Men like mad; but we also get Arcade, Psycho Man, Darkstar, Frog Man, Nico Minoru and so on in the same wave - then there's the BAFs - I mean Ursa Major? Sasquatch? Kingpin, Mister Hyde, AoA Colossus, some of them are simply incredible and deep cuts too. So I'd have to give it to Marvel Legends on that factor alone. It should be noted however, I do have several McFarlane DC figures on my other shelves too. When it's good, it's good and I lay my money down.
I fully agree! We need more variety! I kind of touched on it in the video, but I believe the reason we only have been getting bat after bat after bat is because McFarlane currently only has a three year contract. I think once Warner Bros. is confident in fully backing McFarlane with a longer contract; we will see more Doom Patrol and Legionnaires. Which I can't wait for! -Bryton.
Stopped collecting Multiverse after they announced Santa Batman. The creative well's probably pretty dry by now. I hate so much about Legends, but damn if thier horrifically expensive plastic doesn't feel premium. Felt like a 10-year old again opening Spidey and seeing that quality build.
My biggest grip with Marvel Legends is the subpar quality of retro figures. It's the same $20-25 for them regardless. Tigra and classic Vision are cheap-looking plastic compared to 20th anniversary Cap. I also am kinda sick of the build-a-figures because if you make the figures I want, and well, then I'm buying. Plus for a fan like me who isn't opening the package I want to see the complete version of the character otherwise my X-Factor team is always looking incomplete.
I totally agree that many times the retro figs are NOT worth being priced the same. I'm usually into the BAFs though. I love getting obscure characters when they're well done. -Josh
In scale I was hoping yall would touch on how they scale amongst their own lines. For the most part, with some exceptions, legends all are in scale with each other, shorter people aren't the same height as taller people. Mcfarlane often tend to make their figures all over the board with scale like Batgirl being as tall as batman, or flash being taller than batman. Look at the Snyder cut figures for example, why the hell is 6'4" batfleck shorter than 5'9" flash. Lol.
You're not wrong at all. We didn't have any movie dc multiverse figs in hand so I actually never thought about that comparison, but I did know that the Batgirl was too tall and superman 1000 a little shorter than needed. It came down to keeping my argument quick so I focused on the 7" aspect of it... but you're right. Good points! We're possibly doing a follow-up Q&A on this sometime and will hit some of these finer details. - Josh
Marvel Legends's face sculpt is superb, their movie figures actually resemble the actor's likeness, notable examples: Paul rudd, chris hemsworth, chris evans are some of my faves
I'm a kid in a candy store because I really like both. And use Marvel Select for my DC Crossover displays. That said this year I will be buying very few marvel legends when compared to the past and with the recent releases from Mcfarlane it looks like I'll be spending that difference on DC. I love my Marvel figs don't get me wrong. But at the current price it has to be ECEPTIONAL and even harder if it's a BAF. Todd's Mega Figs are killing it for me and the price for what you get is fantastic. Hasbro this past year has played on it's collectors with it's distribution tactics and frustrated many with that behavior. I'm speaking for myself with my wallet and so far.. I'm leaning towards Mcfarlane Toys and the many cool lines that weren't even mentioned here like the Warhammer 40k or MK11 line.
Yeah, he has some phenomenal lines, but we wanted to specifically focus on DC and Marvel for arguments sake. I've collected many of his gaming figs and Spawn figs. Hasbro has been a little punishing to collectors lately. -Bryton
In the articulation segment I was hoping yall would point out how ugly the cuts are on mcfarlane figures, they cut the elbow joints and torso joints in the ugliest way possible. Look at lobos elbows specifically. Awful.
Lobo's are pretty bad. I can find a ton of random things I don't like. But when I looked across the board, fewer were that way than I had thought. To keep my argument under a minute, I tried to focus on the things that affect a majority of the line. I still highly prefer ML but I was surprised by how many of the issues with dcm are being fixed. They aren't my cup of tea, but if people's preferences are for more statuesque figures, I can see the appeal. - Josh
As much as i love Mcfarlane's Dc multiverse, they gotta stop Making Batman or Batman-related characters, i'm actually fine with the articulations as i don't pose them that much, just overall standing on a vanilla pose on the shelf. As of now, im more interested in Marvel legends because of what they are doing now lately, some are a hit and a miss but mostly a hit for me. I think if Mcfarlane stopped making a lot of Batman-related characters and instead made characters like a classic Wonder woman, a Classic Cyborg, a Classic Green Arrow, Atom, Atom smasher, Shazam, any of the rosters in dc and i think i'll switch immediately.
Completely understandable! Would love top see more diversity from the line. Just not sure how much could be determined via the contract with Warner Bros, who are probably much more involved than Disney is with Legends. -Bryton
O agree completely. Give me Sinestro or Kilowogg. Penguin, Two Face Riddler. Plastic Man Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Zatanna too. Soo many characters in the DC universe
Todd has saved me a lot of money...!! I'm not into the 7" line.!! Too bad, really, ...because I would have liked to expand my line of Action Figures. Also, ... I don't like the 'look' of the McFarlane figures...!! Wanted to... but just don't.!! I come down on the Marvel Legends line.!! Thanks for the comparisons, ...guys.!!
To who ever made DC icons and make them a 6 inch scale. Money easy. Would've been awesome but nope they want that 7 inch instead and more Batman on each wave.
Great video! I really appreciate both how you did the comparison, giving each other equal time, as well as that you were both honest about your preferred line's flaws. I do wish y'all pointed out that the new DC Multiverse figs don't being 7" means they don't scale with other DC lines (like Icons as well as the Mattel Multiverse figures). That also affects diversity, since you can't mix an older version of a figure in with your 40 new Batmen.
We tried to keep the video as much about the two lines as possible, which is why we give it more of an ambiguous comment about not matching up with other figure lines. -Bryton
@@fanaticnow2829 I appreciate that. At the end of the day, McFarlane Toys is a 7” action figure manufacturer. Whether DC gave him the license and said “Yeah, we know you only make 7” figs” or whether Todd himself said “Hey…we only make 7” figs” doesn’t really matter at this point. After dipping my toe in this new DC Multiverse line, I view it the same way I view Diamond Select: a must buy for the larger characters, a reluctant pass for the regular humans.
@@paltrax lol what a stretch. You're comparing a line of figures from a garbage movie that hasbro had to make and that never had a chance at selling because nobody wanted them, to a line of figures from a movie that supposedly everyone did like and is fckn batman, that are peg warming forever because the actual figures are beyond garbage
That controversy reminds me so hard on the old Canon vs. Nikon debate. It's in some way silly, I can live in both worlds and can be happy although. As I was a Child i read comics from DC as well as from Marvel. So to see now action figures for as a child I would have given my soul for is a very pleasant feeling, no matter if it's 6 or 7 inch or variety or paint or what else. No line is better than the other one. The best figure is the one that makes you happy.
To me, mcfarlane is better only because they almost never reuse molds and the price is more than reasonable. Hasbro has straight up pissed me off with their new 24 dollar price point. It’s getting to the point where a lot of marvel legends figures aren’t really worth their price tag
I’d love to see Hasbros take on the DC figure line. I think that with the proper scale and articulation of the marvel legends line the DC figures would sell even better. I’m all for a Marvel and DC Legends line!!
Also I really disagree with the build a figure being the “ultimate accessory” it sucks having to buy a bunch of crappy Bucky cap reuses just to get a cool bigger figure. I’d much prefer marvel to drop the bafs and just put out more 40 dollar mega figures like mcfarlane does. Plus in recent years it seems like hasbro is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for bafs I mean who the heck is the controller.
in the scale department the DC argument was pretty lacking. The scale between figures on DC as a whole is all over the place. Flash is bigger than superman and that devastator batman is way too small. not to mention batgirl and that harley quinn are giants. Dude scale is super important even if its with in the same line and he just skimmed over it like no big deal.
I partially agree with you. I didn't have enough time to go into full detail. DC Multiverse does make those tiny mistakes, but Marvel Legends isn't completely guilt free from the same argument. Sabretooth and Wolverine are not too appropriate size in comparison to each other. The Flash isn't taller than the newer Superman in my collection. This line is still new and still working out kinks. Hasbro ran into similar issues when they started out as well, it wasn't until a few years ago that they started getting sizing down right. -Bryton
@@fanaticnow2829 Sabertooth not fine. yes way too small. Wolverine way fine. Plus a sabertooth should coming soon.you pointing out 2 figures while i can point out multiple. plus fan outcry has changed direction. while Todd mac don't change, he will continue to do what he wants side eyes and all.
I think Marvel Legends is the better toy line for fans of the comics. They throw out some real deep cuts, so if you're a fan of one character in one specific costume, there's a chance you're going to get a figure. I have 3 different Emma Frosts to choose from. Three! EMMA FROSTS! These people are fans and it shows. Mcfarlane on the other hand... If it's not Batman or a character in a popular game or movie, you're probably not gonna see them. God help you if you like any of the women. They've been at this for years and still don't have a classic versions of Wonder Woman or Harley Quinn. Unfortunately I'm a DC fan, so I'm stuck with Batman Multiverse.
I personally like my Legends better. The sculpt on the McFarlane figures is better for sure but the articulation is sorely lacking. I’ve recently started collecting Mafex as they make DC and Marvel characters. The only problem with them being the price. Great video, quickly becoming one of my go to action figure channels.
Scale is what's saving me money. I want to do a comic Justice League/Avengers crossover and I already have my Avengers from Hasbro, so I haven't bought a single figure from Mcfarlane.
@@fanaticnow2829 Have you thought about which other companies would be able to match Hasbro if they acquired a 6" figure license from DC? I've been thinking Jada Toys might do a great job going by their Universal Monsters that came out last year. What do you think?
Let me just shut this down by saying…. Look at the freaking Megafigs in the Mcfarlane line! Hasbro overcharges like crazy. Hasbro couldn’t do a Megafig at the Mcfarlane price point if their life depended on it. Not to mention, hasbro almost never goes on sale, and even if they do, they’re usually peg warmers. Why is Lando still at full price after all these years. And Mcfarlane seems to pay attention to the fans a bit more. We still want Slave Leia, Oola, and Gina Carano-who was arguably one of the coolest female protagonists in a longtime and they dropped her like the plague.
DC is gonna win with attention to detail. But I still prefer Marvel Legends because they seem to consider a wider audience than McFarland. McFarland doesn't do enough characters of color and too many variants so I give them my money sparingly. I like their quality but I'm currently only interested in collecting Batfamily and Justice League. If they give me more characters of color and prime universe characters from Titans, Teen Titans, and Young Justice then I'll open my wallet.
I agree wholeheartedly about the lack of diversity in the line. My only hope as of right now is that McFarlane may have his hands tied a bit more with only a 3-year contract and with having to answer to Warner Bros requests and requirements. I hope we get to see some more teams and POCs moving forward. -Bryton
@@fanaticnow2829 Yeah, I can understand how showing his line of toys is profitable. It makes me sad to think why that has to mean less diversity though.😥
I'm holding out some hope just because looking at his other lines, diversity is abundant. That's why I feel his 3 yr contract and Warner Bros may be holding him back. -Bryton
Honestly I just wish I could get a Terry McGinnis Batman that scales with my Spidey 2099, one of the biggest things I get from Action figure collecting is the crossover you get out of it and while I can justify The size difference between say, The Spartan Collection's Master Chiefs and my vast array of Spider-Man (I mean Spartans ARE in a power armor), or maybe justify a Superman towering over one of my Peter Parkers,or hell to go back to McFarlane, even Spawn towering over everyone (he is bonded to a hell symbiote), I just can't justify Batman standing like 4 ft over a Cap
I collect both. Still, when you brought up sculpt I cannot believe the tiny hands like on Zod and the high crotch on Ultraman didn't come up. All the sculpted texture is great on Multiverse but proportions and face sculpts get wonky. They don't always seem like part of the same line, I am talking really big Flash, undersized Rebirth Batman, huge Green Arrow, and little Martian Manhunter to name a few. I am focusing my DC on core JLA and immediate Batman and Superman family and villains. Without bucks we don't have consistency or even proper variations like wolverine to Spider-man to Colossus to Captain America.
Marvel legends wins by a landslide for me man. Most of the mcfarlane dc figures are some of the ugliest looking action figures I've ever seen personally. There are a couple awesome ones but very few and far between
Due to my personal preferences, I agree. But after judging what multiple other people were looking for I had to concede that they were providing something a lot of people wantedfrom their figures. I tried to be unbiased and judge from both perspectives instead of on my own opinion. But yeah, I mostly agree with you. - Josh
Great job guys - I truly love this concept. I'm wondering if you two would be interested in making this idea into a regular thing? What I mean would be for the two of you to each get a DC wave and a Marvel one and combine your thoughts in a video. Forgive my ignorance on the matter, but until I saw Killer Croc and Man-Bat, I felt feeling assured I made the right decision to go with Marvel for my limited space (it was a tight race). I'm really not so sure now, because as you guys put it - the competition caught up.
I love that idea! I guess it'll come down to how well this video performs, but I'm glad to know you'd like to see it. Personally, I think you made the right choice if you don't have much space, but I'm with you about how surprising the newer dc figs are. They're a lot better than I thought. - Josh
For me DC multiverse is better 1) price , McFarlane $20 new sculpts in every figure Marvel L almost $30 same mold every time. The Baf waves , MacFarlane 4 figures $100 from the same story - marvel 6-7 figures from different storys.
i owned a lot of marvel legends since i collect comic and mcu versions. i also own a dozen of mcfarlane dc multiverse but the justice league nembers only. i would prefer marvel legends when it comes to scaling. my biggest gripe for MF dc multiverse is the comic 1000 superman as he is a bit small compare to the other jl members.
Dc multiverse figures have bad proportions, horrible quality control, and barely any accessories. But that is obviously just my opinion I just think that marvel legends is better
Dude, lol, I had zero doubt I was going to get him eventually, but after your video I did to myself "that's it, I'm getting that mfer next time I see him" so I went the next day and found him. 😂 Review most likely coming soon. Let me know what you think? I respect your take so I'll give you a shout-out if you notice anything I didn't.
@@fanaticnow2829 the only things I think they could improve on Goliath are different wing options, which I've heard they are doing. Otherwise, the shape of the pectoral muscles limits the arm posability moving forward, so that is one thing I wish was better.
I don't think there's much of a debate. Marvel Legends are better, though they might be more expensive in some places, they're better articulated and offer more variety when compared to the DC figures. Marvel Legends also scale much better, whereas DC Multiverse figures are too big to fit in with anything else, are disproportionate and move just as much as my dead granddad.
Almost every wave of legends seems to go out n clearance at major retailers examples the age of apocalypse waves, eternals, captain marvel, FF vintage wave, even heavy hitters like there Spider-Man waves. I’ve hardly seen any dc multiverse on clearance since they started the line so that tells me people are buying them more then legends at the moment. Sure Todd makes a lot of Batman figures but they’re selling and not just to us collectors but kids are buying them too. With the prices rising for legends and the figures pretty much staying the exact same I tend to find my self not caring about them as much. I still collect spidey villains but that’s about it. Where as with dc multiverse I usually buy all the new figures.
What I’d love to see is both McFarlane and Legends to try out the ultra premium route. Try and go up against Mafex. I believe there is a market there if they were willing to try something new. It would just be another option.
That could be interesting but the market for high dollar figures isn't exactly lucrative. With Mafex and S. H. Figuarts kinda holding cornering that market, McFarlane and Legends needs to be there providing the everyday collector with a good but more cost effective alternative. -Bryton
@@fanaticnow2829 I don’t think they should stop making the ones there already do. I I love the cheaper ones. I can buy more lol. No, I just would love to see what either company is capable of in a very premium figure. I could see Todd deciding to make an ultra articulated, soft goods wired cape, pinless joints Spawn as a one off. In fact I’m kinda surprised he hasn’t.
@@royjones8312 Alright, I see where you're going. That would be cool to see what the best figure they put out is. I guess the closest we will get from Legends is the HasLab projects. McFarlane is actually going to announce a Kickstarter here soon for what appears to be Medieval Spawn, but I'm not sure how close it will get to a premium fig, possibly just a really nice statue. -Bryton
Mafex isn't very expensive, you are just paying taxes, this is like in Mexico or in CentralAmerica each figure is about $45 bucks, because they are paying a lot to the government.
Marvel Legends is good for articulation and good reuse body molds. And it’s mostly affordable However for better quality I see a lot of folks go for either Mafex, Mezco, or SH Figurarts. Albeit for higher prices.
The only reason he outsold his competitors, is because he makes variants of the exact same figure with a different head sculpts and/or different hands. His proportions and his articulation are absolutely trash and let's not talk about his issues with the scale of his figures. He should never have gotten the DC line.
Respectfuly I disagree. I think the total opposite. McFarlane is a mad genius and I think that in time he will restart the line with all new six inch scale figures with new sculpts and Build A Figures to revamp the line. Plus, he is proving that quality figures can be made and sold for twenty dollars. With inflation continuing to sky rocket, McFarlane may be the only company left still selling toys.
The articulation on my DC multiverse figs from 3 jokers wave is crazy well most of them marvel legends days are numbered they look like kid toys after my 300th marvel legends figure I sold mine for Joes and mcfarlane warhammer 40k and DC multiverse and haven't looked back lol
I mean that’s kinda the point of some ML figs like the vhs x-men figs. They’re supposed to look like figs from the cartoons. Also the mcu figs look amazing with detail, endgame cap, Thor, and Ironman just to name three. McFarlane figs do have a lot of nice details on them but the proportions are so wonky.
like mcfarlene or not theres no doubt dc multiverse has 100x more effort put in than marvel legends just walk into a gamestop and see what theyre selling 100% its dc multiverse
Hey Josh & Briton, I've collected way more Marvel Legends in the last 2 years. But I'm also starting to collect DC Multiverse now too. I have to do some reorganization before I can display the DC Multiverse figs though. Thus far I like the DC M-V figures that I've bought.
I hear ya! I've bought most ML released but I'm just getting started on DC MV. I'm late to the game. They definitely won't match in scale so I've gotta figure out how to display them. - Josh
Hasbro figures are superior in quality and articulation. Mcfarlane boasts more points of articulation but its poorly executed and useless in a lot of areas, such as the toes. I will say the sculpt of Mcfarlane stuff excels as long as you arent wanting a dynamic pose.
I wouldn't call the toes useless. I think they are great to help show motion in a figure. I'm not sure I can argue quality between the two; they seem to be similar in plastic quality. -Bryton
Collect both but Mcfarlane definitely is my favorite I feel like their action figures look more bad ass. And sincerely like that there not afraid to try diffrent characters and I can appreciate that.
Thank you! We tried to keep it strictly about the figures and what you can expect as a collector. As collectors ourselves, we only want what is best for the collecting community, so we tried coming at this from strictly a factual point-of-view. Still had to get a few jabs in at each other for the laughs though lol. -Bryton
They both have their strong suits but I have to give it to mcfarlane, it's only 2/3 the price, all new sculpts, etc. Marvel legends has better live action figures for sure but I don't personally collect mcu figs. I prefer 7 inch scale because they fit with my Marvel selects and neca figures and I prefer the mcfarlane articulation because of the double ball joint in the torso, and the newer mcfarlane figures joints hide well and are moving better. Back to Marvel select its so strange how similar in price them and Marvel legends are getting, compare the new darwin to the Marvel select juggernaut, it's kinda sad.
Darwin being the same price as Marvel Select Human Torch should be a damn crime!. I'll do you one better: Marvel Legends Apocalypse is $10 more than Marvel Select Apocalypse!
@@ReeceHoward06 what's also sad about the price is hasbro saying it's because of inflation but selects have been the same price for like, 10 years at least now
@@yoy5903 Exactly. If that didn't raise eyebrows, I don't know what will. The Haslab was one thing, but with the Apocalypse figs we get a direct comparison of the same character from two different companies; one for regular retail and the other pretty much a more premium brand in quality. So it baffles me that the lower end figure is $10 more than the more detailed figure. And there's no justification that the usual Legends fanboys can fall back on, because I'm positive the articulation will not be drastically different between the two.
@@ReeceHoward06 there's even a chance the articulation will be better in certain spots on the select because hasbro refuses to update their articulation
I mean there is no contest, Mcfarlne DC figures are a complete mess. Mcfarlane figures have terrible character selection, clunky articulation, off to scale. Most DC fans even admit that they would much rather a more standardized uniform figure line a lot like marvel legends. I would like to see what metrics Mcfarlane is using, because what Mcfarlane is claiming is certainly not what Ive been seeing in the action figure community.
I totally agree with the critiques you mentioned. Marvel Legends won all of those categories pretty decisively. I was surprised to learn that the latest dc multiverse figs were better in hand than what I had previously given them credit for, though. - Josh
Really? Can you link any of the places where you've heard or read that? I'd love to see for myself. If only a petition could be made to effect some change.
LOL! What are you stuck in 2020?! McFarlane's newer stuff have improved in scale and articulation. They even improved on their ball joints. Get off under the rock you live in.
go McFarlane! ive been collecting legends since i was 17.. ten years now and i just got into dc McFarlane...the quality is night and damn day each figure ive gotten from dc has an insane amount of detail that legends is just lacking
Long before DC MULTIVERSE, DC already had its toy lines with DC DIRECT and DC UNIVERSE CLASSICS. DC DIRECT WAS SUPERIOR TO MATTEL. However, its constant brand changes, such as the quality of the figures (especially the joints) caused it to fall apart. In the case of Mattel, Todd Mcfarlane has been in charge in just 2 years that everything made by Mattel has become garbage. They have their details, but it is a line that will grow over time and become the DC COMICS brand (taking up the past DC DIRECT lines, and announcing new products of that brand). In the case of Marvel Legends, IT WAS AN ICON, but we must be honest, the high prices that must be paid for constant reuse of bodies and repainting have made them lose value. And that line has been overvalued, for being the favorite toys of UA-cam critics, has made that series fall apart every year.
I have over 50 Marvel Legends figures... I would love to get some DC ones, but every time I see them in the store they do not look good. Always something a bit off with the figures: bad paint, weird faces, or strange joints. I don't know if it's just the distribution in my area (south Florida) or just my luck. Maybe I should just look harder at some more DC figures.
Im a DC collector especially Superman and I really enjoyed the 7inch more then 6inch and Mcfarlane price is great and but yea I am tired of getting Batman every wave I hope Mcfarlane make more characters in the future #TeamDC
I’m a dc fan, but scale on their figures do disappoint me. Which is one of the main reasons i collect Mafex Dc figures instead of Mcfarlene. I do think both lines are great and have their pros and cons.
The sad problem is, a lot of people want Batman, Batman, Batman that's why half of DC comics coming out right now are pretty much a third of Batman/Batman related runs. -Bryton
Honestly, I think that DC Multiverse gives you a lot more figure for your money. They are getting overpriced too, but Marvel Legends remain smaller, have no accessories or weapons most of the time.. Also, Hasbro tend to release LOTS of peg warmers if you ask me. For one Marvel Legends I want to buy, there are 12 I don't even contemplate buying (even if they were way cheaper..).
I think in 2023 any of these should come with a good amount of accessories. Mcfarlane is lacking in this so badly lol, I can get just as many if not more accessories with one Neca purchase as like 4 Mcfarlane purchases lol
Haha, I hear ya! I honestly didn't think it would be close but when I had them in hand, I can see the appeal. It's about preference because I still think marvel legends is way better, but that's because they provide what kind of figure I'm looking for. When thinking without bias, pretending to be someone who doesn't care about scale and articulation, they look petty good. They're just not my cup of tea. - Josh
Me personally marvel legends is a W for me since for me is all about articulation. If mcfarlane made Spider-Man figures probably they would suck due to they’re lack of articulation. Obviously there paint might be better than legends but if I have a Spider-Man action figure and can’t pose it in it’s iconic poses than that’s an L for me
I think alot of people on this chat are marvel fanboys, and cant be objective. Ml look like kids toys. Dcm look like actual collectibles. If you put the best ml and best dcm together on a table and asked people(with no clue about action figures)which they perfer, i think dcm wins by a landslide. Theyre bigger, cheaper, better plastic and better sculpts.
scale is over the place. Bad cuts and engineering, QC issues are all over the place, paint jobs are hit and miss, face printing tech is not there at all. McFarlane's megafigs are surely better but other than that, There's too much miss than hits.
Honestly, once you get both in hand, it's hard to say which is better. They both have their highs and lows, their hits and misses. At the end of the day, it boils down a lot to your preferences as a collector. -Bryton
You should also get some Power Rangers Lightning Collection figures in your collection as well. The Lightning Collection is the Power Rangers equivalent of the Marvel Legends.
I originally had more but didn't want to spend too much time on one thing. Static has been one of my favorite heros, since I was watching his cartoon as a kid so I fully agree, honestly im pretty happy with my current DC Icon version. I would love a more updated one in the same scale as my other DC figures though. With the level of detail put into these figures, I also would love to see a Hardwire. I am curious how much Warner Bros decision making was put into which Heros are chosen. -Bryton
Funny enough, McFarlane just announced a Static Shock figure. Which falls in line with my prediction we would see more diversity in the later half of this year. -Bryton
I have around 200 Marvel legends and around 8 Macfarlane Dc figures , and I think Marvel Legends are 1000 times better lol I.liked more Mattel Dc Classics that was a good DC line. Hasbro's is rising their price that's a bum but Hasbro Marvel Legends is better , way batter.
in 2020 multiverse was better, 4 years later, hasbro has been pushing for better quality, sculpts and more accesories, they still release stinkers every now and then, but they also release brand new sculpts frequently. Multiverse to me feels like they peaked two years ago and haven't done much in terms of innovation, they keep releasing uninteresting characters while missing essential ones and then they release bizarre repaints of those same uninteresting characters. Also something that legends have that multiverse lacks is playability, posing a legends is satisfying, they feel durable and the reusability of molds, means that collectors are familiar with the parts so kitbashing, swapping is a thing and the figures can take the abuse. Multiverse feel more like posable statues, they don't feel as durable, like they feel sturdy and all, but after a few poses, joints start becoming loose, parts squeak, so it's not a satisfying experience and customization is not as accessible.
I hear ya. Distribution has definitely been an issue. - Josh
Please don't play with words to fit an agenda
I'm sick of the Batman fetish from Todd McFarlane
This is very true, only stores I ever see a marvel legends figure is my local GameStop's
Biggest fundamental strengths and weaknesses for each:
McFarlane Strength: Almost always a new sculpt
Weakness: Lousy articulation and accessories.
Legends Strength: Superior engineering/articulation
Weakness: Ridiculous and shameless redecos and high price points.
Yeah but alot of Marvel Legends are just Repaints, but I love ML don't get me wrong, but it just not enough New body molds
They both have they bs,and Greats
Yea but isee it as mcafarlane cares more about the figure as hasbro fix their figures but in a rerelease very scummy
As mcfarlane don't re release they listen to what their fans say about the last figure and fix the new one for example The Flash Rebirth the balljoints Are TRASH The Flash CW
One thing that really hurts multiverse in the accessories department is that dumb “no toy gun rule” mandate from WB.
WB are the reason why Mcfarlane can't expand on variety than what he can produce which is a 1,000 Batmans.
@@johnboko7110 lmao mcfarlane has pretty much released all the Batman’s we need at this point so I think he’s gonna start being more versatile
@@Pluhpluh0 He needs to be but WB is like "oNlY bAtMaN !!!" 🤪
@@johnboko7110 it sucks to think that WB can basically remove the option to have sharp detailed sculpts for kids any second
@@Pluhpluh0 Yeah but it's true
I personally prefer DC Multiverse. They have newer body molds, more sculpt detail & they're bigger so more bang for your buck.
Legends keeps reusing body molds from almost 10 years ago & are charging more for it.
Understandable, hell we have a whole video talking about the Bucky Cap mold lol.
@Jordan Scott I agree, I've bought a few McFarlane figures and each ones has fallen apart right out of the box and doesn't like going back together.
What’s wrong with marvel toys?
Yes, but him having different body molds is now having some figures towering over either certain Batman figures, or Batman, towering over everyone like the Hush Batman plus only one I had scoped for 2999 action figure and hardly any accessories? Nah sorry fam one has to be buggin in the head there
So I still prefer marvel legends any given Sunday
I love Todd’s competitive spirit. I’m a McFarlane fan from way back and I always feel like he puts the effort into everything he produces.
Im new to action figure collecting but so far I like the mcfarlane toys way more. Theyre cooler, more original and even cheaper than the Marvel legends figures. I just bought the Batman speeding bullets and I cant wait to get it!
Except the head sculpts and accuracy.
I’m always curious as to why some people only end up liking only marvel or dc, with maybe a short experience with the other one.
I grew up experiencing both, so the very few figures i do have are a mix.
I love both but I 1:12 is much better for scale with my figures I already have
I have no issues with the marvel legends but I don't collect them.
Honestly, that's one of the larger point of this video, to point to these companies and hold them accountable to produce better products.
-Bryton
-Bryton.
I'm with you, I want Metal Men so much. And I hope McFarlane makes them with actual metal. Also Cowboy, Pirate and Viking Batman.
-Josh
@@fanaticnow2829 I agree if the BAF is something like Mr. Hyde or Mad Thinker or the Elders of the Universe.

- Josh
i agree wit you man “ab crunch” 🤡 like the figures actually bend

O agree completely. Give me Sinestro or Kilowogg. Penguin, Two Face Riddler. Plastic Man Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Zatanna too. Soo many characters in the DC universe
I think the McFarland line is pretty mixed in quality, but the guy seems nice.
Todd has saved me a lot of money...!! I'm not into the 7" line.!!

Thanks for the comparisons, ...guys.!!
To who ever made DC icons and make them a 6 inch scale. Money easy. Would've been awesome but nope they want that 7 inch instead and more Batman on each wave.
When talking about Scale, it’s important to point out that McFarlane DC Multiverse scaling isn’t even consistent within its own line.
2:12 Here....We...all....are.... MARVEL LEGENDS FAN BOYS!!! Amen!!!
Yessss! - Josh
So to see now action figures for as a child I would have given my soul for is a very pleasant feeling, no matter if it's 6 or 7 inch or variety or paint or what else. No line is better than the other one. The best figure is the one that makes you happy.
I love marvel legends but if enyone thinks marvel legends are better then McFarlane they are lieing to to them selves speaking facts.
I definitely disagree with you wholeheartedly
Seriously
in the scale department the DC argument was pretty lacking.

That's what I don't like about Todd Mcfarlane. He's pure ego and thinks he knows better because of his "artist's sensibilities".
Mafex are great, but being they are 4 times the price of these figures, that creates a big no lol.

I only collect bigger characters from the Todd's multiverse line because my collection is 6 in scale
Scale is what's saving me money. I want to do a comic Justice League/Avengers crossover and I already have my Avengers from Hasbro, so I haven't bought a single figure from Mcfarlane.

This is my first video I've seen from of the channel!! I dig it!

@@fanaticnow2829 Yeah, I can understand how showing his line of toys is profitable. It makes me sad to think why that has to mean less diversity though.😥

-Bryton
Im a DC guy but can someone please point me in the direction of the Spider-Man at 8:57!!
Todd McFarlane are raising their prices on their figures. You didn't actually think they'd be 20.00 forever did you?
And it’s mostly affordable
However for better quality I see a lot of folks go for either Mafex, Mezco, or SH Figurarts.
- Josh
Team building is my bread and butter even if I only collect Spider-Men and the sinister sixes
This is actually a very well constructive video critiquing them. The last video I saw was.. well very mean spirited
Thank you! We tried to keep it strictly about the figures and what you can expect as a collector. As collectors ourselves, we only want what is best for the collecting community, so we tried coming at this from strictly a factual point-of-view. Still had to get a few jabs in at each other for the laughs though lol.
-Bryton
@@fanaticnow2829 thanks. Still i think the there's a lot we can learn from the Marvel Legends line
@@randymonster4105 😂😂😂 that’s not even worth a conversation. No collector chooses Mcfarlane DC figures over Hasbro, well accept maybe you
@@blakekwamin7400 LOL! Marvel Legends are kids toys
go McFarlane! ive been collecting legends since i was 17.. ten years now and i just got into dc McFarlane...the quality is night and damn day each figure ive gotten from dc has an insane amount of detail that legends is just lacking
Even though i prefer DC characters I think I like Marvel better over all better shows, movies, figures, and their comics and games are really good too
I agree on shows and movies. Their games have been hit or miss, where as the Arkham series is killer! Figures and comics, I'm kinda divided.
-Bryton
Im a DC collector especially Superman and I really enjoyed the 7inch more then 6inch and Mcfarlane price is great and but yea I am tired of getting Batman every wave I hope Mcfarlane make more characters in the future #TeamDC
I like hearing perspectives from the other side of the argument. I appreciate that. Might use this comment in our upcoming Q&A follow-up.
- Josh
I’m a dc fan, but scale on their figures do disappoint me. Which is one of the main reasons i collect Mafex Dc figures instead of Mcfarlene. I do think both lines are great and have their pros and cons.
It should be called McFarlane Batman Multiverse
Great vid!!
Appreciate it!
Lol the fact mcfarlane made so many Batman’s but hasn’t made a classic Wonder Woman yet😂😂😂😇
Hope 1 of your 4 DC is the King Shark BAF
Holding out for a better version to be honest. -Bryton
Great job, guys! Marvel Legends will always be my favorite figure line.
No doubt! - Josh
Wait until you find out about Mafex.
@@royjones8312 They’re scaling is out of wack a lot.
Imagine how many more DC Multiverse figures they would sell if it wasn’t just Batman Batman and Batman
The sad problem is, a lot of people want Batman, Batman, Batman that's why half of DC comics coming out right now are pretty much a third of Batman/Batman related runs.
-Bryton
This is like saying to Hasbro no more Spider-Man, that's not gonna work.
I don't know but Todd McFarland is just full of himself.
I think in 2023 any of these should come with a good amount of accessories. Mcfarlane is lacking in this so badly lol, I can get just as many if not more accessories with one Neca purchase as like 4 Mcfarlane purchases lol
The worst Marvel Legends figure to be released since McFarlane got the DC license is better than every single figure McFarlane has released, combined.
And you're a Mcfarlane fanboy from what I've seen, so you're not exactly unbiased yourself.
Honestly, once you get both in hand, it's hard to say which is better. They both have their highs and lows, their hits and misses. At the end of the day, it boils down a lot to your preferences as a collector.
-Bryton
@@hansbune3467 Don’t forget the Megafigs being statues man. I hope Croc isn’t one but Man Bat definitely is.
You should also get some Power Rangers Lightning Collection figures in your collection as well. The Lightning Collection is the Power Rangers equivalent of the Marvel Legends.
Havent seen the video yet, but Marvel Legends is definitely better
As a black collector I wish yall would of talked about that diversity. Because we should of gotten at least an ICON or Static by now
I originally had more but didn't want to spend too much time on one thing.
-Bryton
You have a DC ICON or dc icons static?
DC Icons Static
Hasbro lost me with that closed box ...
I feel like Mcfarlane's still pissy about Marvel since '92
I have around 200 Marvel legends and around 8 Macfarlane Dc figures , and I think Marvel Legends are 1000 times better lol
I.liked more Mattel Dc Classics that was a good DC line.
Marvel legends boxes are kinda annoying now with the figure swapping and the way you cant see anything
I don’t know what it is but the DC multiverse figs are just not aesthetically pleasing to me. I preferred the icons line
