Ozzy's wife, Sharon - was his manager, and she was also Lita Ford's manager at the time. She actually brought them together, and so 'Close my eyes forver' was written. It's one of the best power ballads ever written, and also Ozzy's first ever top 10 hit in the US.
I love Lita Ford and Ozzy's back and forth collaboration. They blend together so great on this song.
Not only did Sharon approve, she was almost certainly the mastermind of the entire thing. She was both Ozzy's manager and Lita Ford's manager. Giving Lita a duet with Ozzy would obviously be a springboard for Lita's career and making the song about suicide (at least superficially) would bring even more media attention on to it. Music "glorifying" suicide was a huge controversial topic at the time.

I saw an interview with Lita Ford that explained, this song was recorded in Ozzy's home studio. Sharon was at home but not present at the recording, because it was done at 3am. Bass and drum tracks were done 2 weeks later in a different studio....

Are you having a giggle? Lita was a star in the 70's and 80's long before this was recorded. Maybe you're to young to have heard of a band called The Runaways, Lita, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie all had big careers. Maybe not as big as Ozzy's, but she was big enough without needing Ozzy's help ;)

Lita Ford was in a little band with Joan Jett called The Runaways in the '70s. She was a legitimate punk rock icon adapting to the era of glam metal in the '80s and recorded a great power ballad with the Prince of Darkness himself. She's one of the queens of rock n' roll, and like Joan, is still around and making music. An essential artist.
Ozzy and Lita killed I on this song...Lita was killing in in the late 80s. She never got the credit she should have for being a kick ass female metal band frontwoman.
The song came about by accident during a night of drinking and getting stoned when Lita was being managed by Ozzy's wife, Sharon. She recalled to Metal Underground: "Close My Eyes Forever was a mistake. It was just me and Ozzy and Sharon hanging about in the recording studio. They showed up one day and had a housewarming present for me: a life-size duplicate of Koko the gorilla from the San Diego Zoo. It was freaking huge - I had to strap it in the front seat of my jeep to get it home. Ozzy stayed, Sharon got bored and left, and me and Ozzy had a couple of drinks and we were jamming. We started singing, messing about and we wrote 'Close My Eyes Forever.'

I realize many people know this already but anyway: Lita Ford and Joan Jett were in a 1970' s band called the Runaways. Joan Jett was a real runaway. She left her home in Maryland when she was 15 and hitchhiked her way to Los Angeles.

I've been cheated on once that I know of and my response was just to cut it off then and there. It wasn't even like a jealousy thing, it was more of a breach of trust and I knew I couldn't trust the person going further. The relationship wasn't good to begin with so it was a convenient out. It's amazing how many reactors see the first glimpse of a guitar in this video and think it's Ozzy playing it (Ozzy doesn't play guitar, but never mind). Also amusing: how many reactors use Ozzy's name to promote their post when it's officially a Lita Ford song with Ozzy as her guest (not you two, however!!). The strides that women in rock have made don't matter a damn to these kids who still think a man controls the song and is responsible for the sound when it's a woman. Even more bitter to me is people who say, "Who's Lita Ford? Who were The Runaways?" You just want to scream at them, "Catch up!"

His wife was there when they wrote and recorded the song. It's about love and death. She was right the first time. It's referencing death. I have always thought that they are talking about suicide. He sounds like he could already be dead. Possibly from suicide as well "childhood tragedy." She says "if I close my eyes forever will it all remain unchanged" .... then she says "you're like a dagger and stick me hard in the heart, taste the blood from my blade. And when we sleep would you shelter me in your warm and darkened grave?"
In the end end Ozzy says "close your eyes, close your eyes, you gotta close your eyes for me." I really think it's about love and death. He is gone and she's tormented with pain. He's calling for her to close her eyes and be with him. It's a very dark song.

This is straight from Lita Ford from an interview I saw about This song: Since Sharon Osbourne was Lita's manager they were invited over to Lita's house where they hung out and drank one night. This was a time when Sharon and Ozzy's marriage was on the rocks so Sharon ended up leaving. So Lita and Ozzy hung out all night playing pool and drinking which led to jamming on an acoustic and Ozzy talked about his current relationship and ended up writing most of the lyrics that night. And they decided to do a duet for her album. So the song is somewhat based on Ozzy and Sharon's relationship at the time.

In most cases the male or female who wrote it likes and admires another singer and will ask them to sing the other part. In country music you have Tammy Wynette and George Jones or Loretta Lynn and George Jones then you have Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton. It’s nothing sexual, they admire and are friends.

nice. Check out this band, the devils blood "on wings of glory" its a 2010's band with a 70's prog- psy rock metal vibe. The singer die in middle of a ritual, was part of the cult misantropic luciferian orden. The lirycs was beutiful, poetic and heavy a looot of tinks to analyse and review the music is gorgeous. As you can see from the other comments, Sharon Osborne, Ozzy’s wife and manager was also Lita Fords manager, so it was all on the up and up.
Obviously you know who Ozzy is and what he’s all about, but I’m guessing you don’t know about Lita Ford. Lita was originally a member of The Runaways with Joan Jett (I’m sure you know who Joan Jett is). The Runaways were an all girl rock band in the 70’s who never really took off, their only big song was called Cherry Bomb, a youth rebellion song that was pretty good. Unfortunately Lita Ford didn’t get to the hight of Joan Jett, but Lita had a good career with a good number of albums released through the 80’s and 90’s with this song as probably her biggest song.

Other people have already touched on the fact that Sharon osbourne Ozzy's wife was both his and Lita Ford's manager at the time and this is how the song came about.
But the funny thing as to Sori's comment of Sharon being desturbered by him singing with Litsa Ford, Sharon had an affair with Ozzy's guitarist Randy rhoads before he died so it's kind of funny in that sense.

It has been said before the childhood tragedy could either be an unwanted pregnancy, an abortion or a child outside of the relationship (cheating, ect..).. The theory of what this song is about has never been made clear or even solved..
The other notion is that Lita is a troubled person being seduced by the notion of Suicide and Death (Ozzy), Like she is constantly reminded of her childhood traumas, "when your face to face with me you're like a dagger and you stick me in the heart and taste the blood from my blade" by Ozzy/Death.. Ozzy offers her something better and all she has to do is close her eyes forever for him. Basically kill herself.. The last lines are "You gotta close your eyes for me". Obviously some lines don't fit this concept, like "Would you ever trust me?" ect... Or does it??
