I have memories of being like 12 and downloading misfortune on my grandmother's computer, and then having to explain to her that it wasn't a virus
I think Polybius might've been inspired by an old game called "Cube Quest", which made use of surreal video footage and neon-colored polygons in a shoot-em-up format. The video was rendered with a laserdisc, which was very prone to breaking, meaning that the mechanics would have to take away the machine for repairs, possibly explaining the "men in black".
L is real 2401 technically wasn’t a hoax, it was a misreading of the nonsense text on a fountain which led to many theories. 24 years and 1 month after Mario 64s release, files have been leaked from the game which show scrapped luigi assets.
What-
@@G1ngerAle it’s true. And it wasn’t just individual assets a full character model had been made for Luigi this is old news from 2020.
24 years 1 month. 2401 .-.
As someone who used to read creepypastas constantly I believe the characters claiming they're god is inspired by a specific creepypasta titled The Expressionless. Which had the line "I AM GOD" be the scary punchline. As someone who has read creepypastas a lot, there is a lot of inspiration (plagiarism) that these mostly teenaged kids took to incorporate into their own stories.
Because we all know calling yourself god is copyrighted
Because inspiration isn’t a thing 😑
One correct on OneShot's original version - From what I understand, it wasn't that you had to finish the game in one sitting, but rather you had to find a bed to be able to safely close the game without getting locked out
The modern version lets you close the game wherever without this penalty now, though Niko will still acknowledge if you didn't find a bed first when you open the game back up and say "hey maybe you _shouldn't_ do that?"
I think it actually is the first one. I dont think the beds were added until the second version. Idk for sure tho.
I remember that the game originally only let you get to the ending once, with the second version letting you do a bit of 4th wall breaking file stuff to see everything?
@@_-insertname-_ depends on what you consider the first version, in the original i think yeah but im not sure i've never seen it and as such i dont even know if it already had an ending. The steam version no. You could always do the fourth wall breaking stuff to replay, in an update it just added the so called "solstice" run.
BIG one shot fan here, in the original version there *were* beds, but they closed your game i think, also,, in the "new" version (if you can call it that anymore) If you close the game, Niko just says that "everything went black for a second". Now the beds only give some lore when you reopen the game.
Short version is, the main mechanic is gone, but you can still only do the solstice run once. (I can't edit the message I'm why)
Fun fact: the company that released polybius litteraly are "sense erasing" in german. A very cool detail.
Misfortune used to freak me out when I was younger. Used to watch and read so many videos and creepypastas about that game
I remember hearing that Petscop was actually a game being made by the creators of the webseries, but was/is being repurposed for the sake of their analog horror series/ARG. Though, as of yet, the game itself has yet to be released.
Not sure if some other info had come out, but as far as I know, it technically was a real game... Made specifically for creating footage for the series.
It's been stated that it's janky and only really good for making said footage, so there haven't been any plans to release it.
@@TheTheninjagummybear I guess it was its jankiness that led them to make the series, since the series itself relies so much on glitches.
Petscop isn’t an ARG
@@makotohan166 You're right.
Wow I’ve already watched this video 491046 times and I can officially say it’s a toadbup classic
If you ever do a part 2, here are some that I can think of:
Mad (Commodore 64): A bunch of .sid files from Adam Gilmore have been found, presumably for a game called "Mad". However, there's nothing known about the game aside from that as no ROMs of it are known to exist on the internet.
JimsToy's Atari 2600 games: Apparently some developer that made several Atari 2600 games. Only one game from the developer is known to exist, which is a tank game where you shoot enemies that look like manjis, but flipped a bit to represent German tanks.
Aim Software: A company that released several games on the Atari 8-Bit computers, some of which are not known to actually exist
Die Hard Trilogy (Sega Genesis/Sega 32X): Only mentioned on Mega Machines, with no proof of having actually existed.
Married... With Children (NES): A supposed cancelled game based on the popular 80s sitcom that would've been made by Sharedata(the parent company of American Video Entertainment) & released in 1990. Rumor has it that the game might've not gotten past the initial stage(which would be kinda bizarre considering the game WAS announced, but who knows?).
Lucky Star (Atari Lynx): Not to be confused with the anime, this was presumably going to be some bizarro platformer of sorts... maybe?
Madden Football (Intellivision): If this game DID exist, then had it been released it would've been HISTORICAL.
Rap Attack (SNES): A supposed shoot-em-up that was listed on a Chip & Bits advertisement in a May 1992 Gamepro issue. It might've either never saw a release or was unlicensed. Or an inside joke.
Shadows of the Wind (Game Boy/Game Gear/MS-DOS/Sega Genesis): An alleged 1990s game planned for those systems & likely unrelated to the novel from 2001. There is legit no proof that it exists at all online.
To be fair, the L is real hoax DID actually become true, as luigi was found to originally be playable in SM64 in that Nintendo megaleak back in like 2020 or 2019
no, don’t talk about petscop.
*talk about sheriff domestic*
this is not a joke, it’s a demand
nice to see killswitch spoken of again after so long but shame you didnt talk about the failed args
This video covers my favourite aspect and I love it! So well edited, excellent humour and great explanation about non-existed games.
The last segment about "Sad Satan", where you talked about "Petscop" reminded me about "Catastrophe crow" or how people call it, "Crow 64". It's an interesting ARG about a lost Nintendo 64 game, created by Adam Butcher. If you never heard or saw it, I totally recommend you to do so.
I appreciate your videos and hope to see that channel grow with more amazing videos and tons of subscribers.
Petscop is definitely worth covering, in my opinion. I'd love to see a video on it.
My favorite hoaxes are the early FNAF ones, like Sparky the Dog and the Purple Guy animatronic
and the fake FNAF 3 Freddyland teaser
Polybius scared me so much when I first heard of it in 4th grade and oh my god the amount of time it took me to get over this fear is something I’m not willing to admit. Funnily enough- I think it’s really cool now.
Another creepypasta I really like that I think is somewhat adjacent to this is the Ed Kann rumor that was, for a time, attached to Secret of Evermore, it’s a very interesting read.
Holy hell ya kept me stuck to the screen for 13 minutes LOL
Also, PLEASE talk about PetScop in one of the following videos, i used to be so intrigued with it but at the same time being in the state of mind of like "what in the actual fuck is happening", so it's definitely a more interesting thing that i think could keep people stuck to the screen :)
p.s. BANGER video
I think it's funny that I was going to look into Sad Satan as ToadBup said NOT to look into it
misfortune devil is the cutest thing ALIVE
can you make a video about video games that existed next 🥺🥺🥺
There’s atleast like, 12 of those i think
@@ToadBup na theres only 11 i think
you know its a good day when toadbup uploads
okay, so when you said "die from sound', I instantly recalled a strange thing.
way back in time, there was a weird, overly descriptive section of a magazine, maybe gameinformer, going on about a chef game for the nes that was like mario, except with a billion ways to die, unique animations for each death, only 1 level, and supposedly killing the winner of said level.
I can't find the article, which upsets me, because a lot of the ideas described were *fantastic* and would be realizable today.
update SO, it turns out that the name of the chef game is hitlrr's revenge. no wonder I couldn't find this stupid thing for years on end.
up 2 hoagie's revenge.
Was it a real game?
@@omega97hyper24 no, just a strange animation, the stuff on display can't run on a NES.
@@ehhorve857 out of curiosity, do you have a link?
@@omega97hyper24 no. search the last 2 words on my first comment.
This was actually a cool idea thanks toebutt
I would had cried too if I was to spend that much money on a bad game.
Misfortune was interesting to me, and still is since recently I've looked at sites like The Cutting Room Floor, and even watched Oddheader, which showed some interesting content that were either easter eggs or just flat out cut content. So in some way, it seems like it could be plausible, you know minus it actually causing harm, which is what I like from a good creepypasta, giving you just that little thought that maybe it could be true, even when you know it isn't.
Id recommend TetraBitGaming's vids his channel is all about unused and cut content
@@MarcyTheKindaCoolWizard Oh yeah, I've seen his channel before.
I love your videos Toadbup, they're so entertaining and make my day better. :)
incredible video toadbup!
nice vid, toadbup! keep up the good work
Woah, I was binging some videos on this channel, and was surprised to see a new upload from a few minutes ago appear
I find myself watching your content every time I do sewing, your vids are so good
L really is real btw, with the Nintendo leak they did find a Luigi model within the code of M64 lol
It’d be awesome to see you cover Petscop. Loving the content btw!
Great video, I also like your Coraline shirt!
i've seen polybius on an arcade machine, i think it was on one of those old arcade machines with a bunch of classic games.
Great video, it's interesting to learn about these kinds of hoaxes
I love at 1:57 how i can see you have a Coraline also love the video it’s amazing just wanted to say I love your shirt That’s my favorite movie and that shirt brought back memories from childhood
Great video, ToadBup 😃.
8:19 haha I'm already unlucky, already have depression and am already dead
Everyone like "petscop!" But im here BEGGING you to cover killswitch or saki sanobashi*not a game but shhh*‼⁉️❗‼🤯😭😭😭
Oh boy another episode :D
LET ME PLAY POLYBIUS!!!! NOO!!!
Id'e LOVE For ToadBup to cover Petscop.
Aw, no mention of Yeah Yeah Beebiss I? I guess it is about as insubstantial as Mario Galaxy 3... But I had never heard of most of these. Thanks for filling us in!
I feel like one of the biggest things that disproves Killswitch is that nobody ever copied the files from it after getting their hands on a copy of it. Especially if a game allegedly deletes itself when you die in it or finish playing it, you'd think someone would have tried copying the files for it to archive it as soon as they got their hands on a copy of it.
You have gotten yourself a subscriber! This video reminds me of a combo between ScottTheWoz and Peanut Butter Gamer and I love it! Keel it up!
Little detail the copyright for polybius is 1981 sinneslöscher inc
Sinneslöscher is german for "sense quencher" you know might be importand for the memory loss thing
(Translation Tools were used)
Seen most people playing the DX version of Misfortune (the RPG Maker one). Nobody mentioned the spot on version (with GB palettes). The game can be run on an GB emulator & pretends to be a Pokémon Red prototype
very nice seeing you cover creepy gaming type stuff.
takes me back to the glory days of youtube
edit: holyshit bro got the iced out brian griffin chain
I feel like ive seen Killswitch. But I only remember the sprite of the girl and the floating eye/hand. I remember nothing else. Same with MisFortune, but I only remember the bat creature, the cliche creepypasta quote, and the room with four doors.
why did i find this while searching up "pope francis megalovania"
I love how polybius is just the incarnation of stuff like video games will rot your brain
Something about Misfortune is that I remember the story mentioning that since the game is hidden in others, it uses these games assets, explaininy why the devil from Sprout Adventure is there even tho i dont remember if that game was on the list the creepypasta said.
Super cool video!
9:19 I had a friend a long time ago love this game and I was 9 at the time when I met them so I got curious and looked it up and yea…I now realize they are a little fucked up
Great video. Though I choked on my drink when you played the fucking family guy clip.
what about petscop? isnt that one of the most well known 'nonexistant' games?
Great vid
For people who want to find more about Sad Satan, be careful, the game is on Steam
There's a reasonable line linking Obscure Horror Corner as the person who made the game, as well as him possibly being arrested for certain stuff a couple years later. For some reason though, the mods for the Sad Satan subreddit don't want people talking about it as it 'has no evidence' or smthn.
Iirc, what links them together are various accounts which go by sekebear or smthn. The person who posted the game to 4chan with the virus used this username. And then someone defending Obscure Horror Corner on reddit also used this username, conveniently going dead the same time Obscure Horror Corner did. Another account with the same name on youtube I believe uploaded a video years prior titled Sad Satan. There's some more information which indicates the person behind the yt channel sekebear(or whatever it was called) was arrested a couple years after Obscure Horror Corner went dead, which came from one of the videos the channel uploaded. The info in the virus game files indicated that Obscure Horror Corner made it, as they both used the same first name. And some more links I can't remember.
For whatever reason, this and the Jeff the Killer image gives me chills.
As an additional thing that suggests OHC was the one who created the game: he did an interview with Kotaku at some point, which was then updated with a statement from him that he intentionally guided people away from downloading the game (something to do with providing a wrong web address) because of additional/worse content in the game that he cut out of his videos. Less than 20 minutes after the article was updated, the virus version was uploaded onto 4chan. The timing seems to point towards someone waiting for the article to be updated before posting it, and really only OHC and the Kotaku people would know about it being updated
Edit: Oh, and another thing. There's currently a listing on Steam for Sad Satan, due to come out May this year, and the publisher is listed as Obscure Horror Corner.
@@maxxie_the_queer Who's uploading that to steam 💀💀💀
Looks like someone might be trying to profit off of it, despite being about 10 years late.
@@shua_the_great the publisher, as I mentioned, is listed as Obscure Horror Corner, and the developer is listed as ZKloper. The latter has a UA-cam channel where they claim to be the creator of Sad Satan, and the only video on their channel is a trailer for the game (which I haven't watched so have no clue how similar it is to the version OHC uploaded videos about). The person who OHC claimed to have posted it on the Dark Web was someone who went by "ZK", so that'll be where that name comes from. When looking for a bit of further info, I cane across a thread on r/sadsatan, where the comments do believe it's someone simply trying to profit off the Sad Satan name
@@maxxie_the_queer Yeaah, I know who the person _claims_ to be, but I seriously doubt it's OHC. I just find it disturbing someone would try to profit off of smthn that awful, but that's some people ig. 🤷
@@shua_the_great yeah, it's super disturbing. and I agree it's incredibly unlikely to be OHC. Apparently (tho I'm not sure what the evidence for this is), ZK is in prison, and if OHC really is ZK, that means OHC is in prison, so there's no way it's him.
squidward made me LAUGH SO HARD 😂😂😂=)
nice video buptoad
Ah, I love old creepypastas. Shame that era is over.
Misfortune gb ROM is on itch now
4:26 LIKE THE INFAMOUS COLOR FIXER, THE RED MIST?
great editing
Babe wake up new Toadbup just dropped
The only reason i know about polybius (i thought it was pronounced poly-bliss tbh) is because of the game arcade spirits, i had no idea it was a "real" thing (as in, not just some idea made by the game devs)
12:22 on the contrary i Heard that was supposted be the original title vision of the game before was decided to made "for" as subtitle . And It was Heard was made by in house by the Nintendo Dev team Who made previously brawl. Probaly they saw an opportunity to collaborate with Namco to make the best experience for smash as to offer. And would meant have a lot cast of characters to be playable. Including Mew as example. Yeah It was strange hoax.
omg fire coraline shirt tho
polybius is the introduction of many to their hypno kink
ToadBup! ToadBup! ToadBup! ToadBup!
I feel kinda cool that I know all of these games
I can make one argument for Polybius being plausible:
Project MKUltra.
That's a real thing that the US government did. If MKUltra could be a thing, so could Polybius... In theory.
I honestly think this video should've covered Catastrophy Crow
yea, petscop would fit perfectly
i hope the evil farming game is on here
aw :(
Speaking of Misfortune: I can't be the only one who plays handheld games with the sound off right?
i wonder why you didn't talk about petscop... since it's also a game that never existed
Wow,Obscure Horror corner has the same profile picture as my school profile picture!
guys, ToadBup just uploaded!
i am going to create every single one of these games to make this video outdated
man i remember killswitch
nice No Control record :)
I like your channel man, I definitely see the Scott The Woz influence, but I also like that you have your own spin and personality to your channel.
I don't like that you play Roblox but I love your content. I'll just place my "I was here first" sign, take care and good luck with the uploads!
CZECHIA MENTIONED!!! CZECHIA AND OUR BROTHERS (Slovakia) MENTIONED
*If stuff like satanity, holy stuff, demons ETC actually exists, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sad Satan was A game from Hell.*
L is real means losing is real
dudes
he forgot crow 64/catastrophic crow
surprised you didnt talk about Luna Pálida. does it not count by your standards? cuz i dont remember the exact details or if it ever was a real game?? i think it was just a creepypasta.
2:35 Bruh its The Geometry Dash cube
IM FUCKIN BUPPIN OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nice
Nee, polybius seems more plausible to me, based on the fact that its based on what happened with real games. Sad satar technically is real, since there is a version circulating on the internet, although as far as I know, it doesn't have all the weird pictures. That version is the one that may or may not exist.
6:42 i have that book in german
4:15 sinneslöschen inc is interesting it means sinn deleting in german
What about Petscope?
8:10 you mean Jesus
2:55 *forgor
