I Cruised Through The World’s Deepest Canal

- The captain of our ship had to hand over the controls for us to pass through the Corinth Canal. We had INCHES to spare and sharp rocks under the water, it was incredible.
This is the Corinth Canal, it’s a man-made waterway and the deepest canal in the world. I’ve just disembarked a cruise where our captain had to hand over control of the 37 million-dollar ship that I was on to a local tug boat pilot who would try to pull us through. To make things even more stressful, the Canal had been closed before this for almost two years following a landslide, it had just reopened.
Thanks to the lovely people who let me use some of their footage in this video:

I had so many questions going into this, how did PEOPLE make this, why did they bother and perhaps most importantly would our ship be okay.
It was early in the morning when we approached the entrance to the canal. I’m not normally a morning person but I did not want to miss this. This was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience and most of the guests were up on the top deck. We were all so excited to be able to stand outside on the ship as we went through the Canal. I wondered if the walls would be so close that I would be able to touch them and I enjoyed one of the mimosas that was being handed out.
The captain told us that it was too windy for the drones that were planned to film our cruise through the canal. I hoped that the wind wouldn’t cause us any problems, you definitely don’t want this ship to be blown into the side.

Hi! If you successfully see this video can you please let me know? I’ve tried to publish with ship WiFi but doesn’t seem like anybody has watched it yet, from my end anyway! 😂❤️👌🏼
Hellooooo anybody here, echo, echo! 🤣🤣
Hi, I can see this video and currently watching!!
Already replied
Wow! What an amazing canal crossing! That looked beautiful! Thanks Emma!
All working fine :)
Thanks all! Was getting worried 😂❤️😊
Ship claustrophobia to the max. Safe to say, no super cruise ships like the Primo could make it through. Hoisting ships over ground over rocks sounds like a technique that the Vikings mastered.
Yes!! 😂😂😂
Incredible video, that’s what separates you from other UA-camr’s,different ships and destinations.I always look forward to seeing your next videos.
Thanks so much, I do love variety! She says from a Royal Caribbean ship in Japan 🤣🥹❤️
Many years ago, I went thru the Corinth canal with Festival cruises' The Azur. That ship was a lot bigger than the ship in this video but it still did fit in the canal.
I drove over this canal twice this year driving from Athens to the Peloponnese. Beautiful scenery.
Very cool! 👌🏼
😮 I'm amazed at how the boat can do that. Quite narrow really the Corinth Canal, an all time historical spot! Unique!
I went through here many years ago on smaller cruise ship than we have these days. It is spectacular!!!
I remember standing on the road bridge over the canal as a child, after quite a moderate road trip from the Netherlands and I thought the canal was impressive.
Amazing! ❤️
This is a wonderful post😊
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
I never heard about the Corinth Canal before 😮 It is amazing to see this and looks awesome to travel through.
Thank you @EmmaCruises for sharing this video. 😊
Thank you! 😁❤️
Amazing to see, mentioned before I missed us going thru it on a less glamorous warship in 1988 as I had just finished a night shift & needed some sleep b4 we docked in Athens to go out! We did get a good photo though! Keep up your excellent work.
Wow!! Thank you! 😁❤️
I'm most impressed by all the candles on board.
Candles?! 🤣
In 2010 I did a bungee jump from that bridge, this brings back some great memories.
Oh, I've seen that canal when I visited Greece. Pretty awesome.
I would love to go through this canal one day. It is so beautiful, evocative. In its own way, as dazzling as The Panama Canal. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thank you for sharing. Cruises stopping in Athens usually offer a tour to Corinth canal. Looks more exciting to traverse through, than just seeing from bridge.
Yessss! ❤️
Here, in the States, a “Spanner” is a tool used to tighten/loosen couplings on firehoses.
Thanks for all the informative content you provide.
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
Emma I am history buff so I was quite surprised that this canal actually exists.
Amazing video!! What an amazing experince that must have been!!
What an awesome vid.! Glad you made it. Thanks for posting such a cool vid
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
We love this video, thanks for sharing Emma 👍
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thank you so much for that video! I came across this canal when I did a recent Holland America cruise to Istanbul. I took a taxi ride over the canal. Truly, a historical spot! Just think about rolling ships across the land…
Wow so cool!! 😀❤️
Awesome job
wow great video , looks fab , thanks for that . from mick in uk
I sailed through there in the 80s on a meditation cruise put on by my school . I'm fairly sure that the ship was called The Neptuna an old hospital ship. But it was a long time ago 😂
Wow! ❤️❤️
Your videos are fantastic! Love the history lesson as well
Thanks so much 🥹❤️
Very cool! Another Great Video!
Thank you! 😁❤️
Great history lesson, thanks
Thank you! 😁❤️
SO EXCITED!! 👻💛❤️🍃🎃🍂💛👻🍃
Amazing
Nice work
That video is amazing! I hope one day we can travel through that canal!!
Thank you! 😁❤️
In the eighties, I sailed through it on a normal cruise ship. They were a lot smaller then than now.
So happy you made it safe and sound 😊👻🍁🍃❤️🎃🍂🍂
I have visited the canal , the region of Corinthia is my favorite in the Hellenic Republic. saludos
Hey Emma! Great video!!!
Thank you! 😁❤️
Fantastic history lessons love it Emma ❤️🍁🍃👻🎃💛❤️🍁🍃
Hahaha.. spanner! Love you Emma!
You too! ❤️
Emma, I enjoy your videos. In this video where you compare the spanner on the left, and a wrench on the right, here in the states, we call the spanner a combination wrench. It is closed on one end and open on the other. What you call a wrench, we call a pipe wrench since it is used by most people to work on pipes usually under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. It's interesting how people in the UK and those in the USA have different terms for the same item. The one that gets me the most is what we call a flashlight, you call a torch. To me a torch would be a big open flame on a stick you carry into an underground mine or cave.
Interesting!! Thank you! 😁❤️
We cruised thorugh the Corinth Canal in July! It was an awesome experience.
Amazing! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Wow such an amazing unbelievable experience! 👻❤️🍃🎃💛🍁💛🍃👻
Hey Emma! I love watching your videos! Could you please try P&O Cruises Austrailia ships? I have been on them before, and Im sure you will love it!
I’d looooooove to!! ❤️❤️
@@EmmaCruises yayy!! If you ever do, enjoy!!
I went through the canal in the 1970s, you can see the marks where they hacked at the rock. Amazing.
You don't want a ship horn battle competition when you're in or near the canal. Right, Emma ?! 🤔😏😊
😂😂😂
I have done a 3 lock cruise on the Panama Canal. I would love to do this one
Wow What an interesting experience it must be ! Do you know what other ships goes there ?
A Fred Olsen ship did , but usually small sailing boats 😀
My dream job is to work on a yacht
Is Hudson's new friend going to reside right behind you too ? I loved how the cruise ship had a companion for Hudson.
Haha nope he lives onboard 😀
Love your informative videos, i was wondering who do you usually cruise with? Is it always different or mostly family? Do you have a preference? I find for instance that sometimes vacationing with friends can be difficult if you want to do one thing and they something else.
Sometimes friends, sometimes family, sometimes my other half, I’m quite happy to adapt to them given how much I travel 😂❤️
This is amazing incredible canal! 🍃👻💕👻🍃🎃🎃🍂🎃🍂🎃🍃👻
Looks like a canal someone playing minecraft would make, just cut straight thru a mountain. Very nice.
Some passengers may be “spanner’s” but always its always a “Wrench” to leave your cruise 🚢
Oh ha ha 🤣
🎉
Way to be SUPREMELY British!😄🇬🇧
@@BrianBorges-ez3ls one has to keep the stereotype alive🤣
@@mrstoives2444 Very well said! 😂😂😂😂😂
That is a wow canal! 🐶🏴☀️🌲
Yep! ❤️❤️
Cool Tee Shirt.
I found you via tik tok so keep uploading the clips
Thank you! 😁❤️
How am i just learning about the canal!?!? Now, i need to learn more about that. Hook me up to the bungee too! I have jumped, but what an awesime place, here.
😂😂😂😂
Haven't watched yet, but guessing from the thumbnail there was an announcement "Please keep your arms and legs inside the ship at all times". I hope I'm right. 🤣
Pretty much!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Damn these are the things I want to experience ❤
Helloooo!!! I’m glad somebody can see this video my Wi-Fi is being very mysterous 😅
@@EmmaCruises We got you ‘Em
I love your disembarkation day shirt. Where can i get one?
Thank you! I designed it, it’s here: emmacruisesshop.com/products/unisex-jersey-short-sleeve-tee-2 😀⚓️
I've been to the Corinth Canal when I was in Greece. My neighbor when I was a kid was captured by the Germans at the Corinth Canal in 1941.
Amazing!! ❤️❤️
This video did not appear in my Subscriptions feed, but it was in my Recommended. 🤷🏻♂️
Hey Phil, very weird! UA-cam has been a bit odd, I published this using ship Wi-Fi not that it should make a difference. 😂
I wouldn’t know about this video if I didn’t see it on Emma’s story, weird that I didn’t get the notification
So weird! Not sure why it did that.
I just found your channel, and it looks wonderful! Could anyone tell me when the live chat sessions take place? I believe I heard her say Friday, but not mention the time.
Usually Friday 5pm uk time if I’m not at sea 😀💪🏼
You will have to book a cruise through the Stad Ship Tunnel when it opens
Ooo, not heard of that. Where’s that? Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
@@EmmaCruisesNorway.
I just place a question on the latest video. Question: Are there no gym's or spa's an all this cruises. In all the videos a saw on your channel, I never see them. With all the food available, how do you still are in shape?
Yes there are gyms and spas. You can see it in my video before this. Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Echo, echo!!!
Hmm why don’t they cover the walls with that mesh wire they do in the uk to stop landslides onto train tracks
Whoa! Those are some might big rocks that fell in the last landslide! If an earthquake occurred while transitioning that canal it would cause another landslide and the huge rocks would crush the yacht and anyone unlucky enough to be standing on the deck! It does look like an adrenaline rush for sure Emma!
Feeling so cheerful keeps you going
Regarding the impossibiliy of dragging a ship from one waterway to another, you've never seen the movie _Fitzcarraldo,_ have you?
Only do measurements by the standard captain Hudson
😂😂😂
The engines were on and working. Check out the wake.
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
The video came through okay, but it's on the general page and isn't on subscriptions. It came through about 45 mins ago.
Interesting! That’s very strange. Thanks for letting me know. ❤️
Yep, I found it by accident...
No notification for me like I normally get
It also keeps coming and going from my home page. The best place is the Emma Cruises chanel, it's there consistently. BTW and audio and video are fine.
I was there in May 2022 and wished there would be a boat going through the canal so that I could take a photo. Nobody was bungy jumping, and I could barely stand on the bridge and look down! It was scary, the walls were much higher than I thought they'd be.
So much!! Hard to imagine isn’t it? Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
The walls weren’t getting closer , the channel was getting narrower
Did you mean this to be helpful? Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
That ship is only $37M ?!?
If you can find a more accurate number let me know and I’ll update it, this one is the best I have 😅
This didn't show up in my subscriptions feed for some reason :(
So frustrating for me as you can imagine! 😅
Some Aussies (not me!) Do like eggs on their burgers @emmacruises
Emma the antiquarian. Mary Beard had better step lively.
What 🤣🤣🤣
and how many bananas for scale?
I’d say at least 12 🤣
16 giraffes? But how many toothpastes is that?
At least 1000!!! 😂😂😂
Should have gone to drama instead
What 😂
'flooding an ocean' 💀💀 people were really dumb lol
Imagine if it did though 🥲
Only just found this vid. ❤ Having visions of Titanic with some of the footage 🛳
There has to be a yo momma joke here somewhere
