@@richgranados11 I’ve heard good things about Tick Tick Boom starring Andrew Garfield but that is about the only one I’ve heard glowing reviews for from 2021
I'm a staunch defender of the French dispatch. I thought it had marvellous storytelling almost in the fashion of a magazine which is why I think it was intentionally overwritten as thats how the journalists wrote. I thought it was stylistically beautiful and had amazing performances all round which chalamet, del Toro and Jefferey Wright giving especially thoughtful ones.
I disagree with a lot of these. I really liked Eternals, House of Gucci and French Dispatch. Yes, they were different from what we were expecting but was pleasantly surprised.
The only thing I disagree with is the French Dispatch. Of course it wasn't up to usual standards set by Wes Anderson, but it doesn't deserve to be on any worst list. It's still a perfectly strong movie.
I loved Eternals. Not liked, LOVED. And to anyone wanting to comment and explain to me why it was bad, save yourself the time. Film is subjective and it worked on every level for me. Especially the characters, acting, cinematography, music and for the first time ever action scenes.
All through #2, I was, like, "Grace, how can there be a movie worse than Reminiscence"? But of course you were right. I had forgotten all about #1. What a horrible movie...
Matrix, Halloween Kills, Eternals, The French Dispatch, and House of Gucci absolutely don't deserve to be defined as worst of anything. They range from decent to pretty good in my opinion (The French Dispatch was great). Reminiscence was mediocre, but there are loads of other films worse than that one.
While the French Dispatch is not my favorite film of the year, nor my favorite Wes Anderson film, I thought it was very enjoyable, beautiful set designs and photography, and the story with Benecio Del Toro as the artist was - as a standalone - a really great short film. I've watched that section twice now and it was just as enjoyable upon second viewing. I caught many jokes that I missed the first time. It's actually very well crafted. Indulgent? Are you saying that Marvel films are not indulgent? Different films indulge in different content. Why do we eat buttery popcorn and candy while we watch huge images on a giant screen? To indulge. I love your reviews but often disagree with your personal preferences for films.

Grace, that was the whole point of The French Dispatch is that the media is so far up their own butts in a self important self congratulatory manner that it makes itself less accessible to the common man, who they purport to advocate for. They quibbel over the point of their interviews and have a party for the editor as they go out of business for financially failing their audience. I thought Anderson did an excellent job skewering self congratulatory media. I can't tell if you didn't get it or you're just so in love with Hollywood that you think they're beyond reproach.
The average rotten tomatoes score for audience is 4 out of 5 stars. You're not in the minority. The critics are the ones that are divided, it's the audience score that matters the most.
I didn't expect Eternals to be on the list, it made it but not Black Widow. To me, both of those were at the same level. Eternals was still entertaining despite it's problems, and I'm anxious to watch it again when it drops on Disney+ next month, so no, it wouldn't have been one of my picks for the worst.
I haven't liked much of this year's Marvel Studios content. I think they're all so generic. But "Eternals" was something that was quite unique for the MCU. I feel we are so accustomed to the generic cookie cutter MCU content that when something breaks it, we hate it because it isn't familiar. But at the end of the day its all subjective. I hope we get more projects like "Eternals"
I hated it because it was a convoluted mess that had so many plot holes it retconned plot holes into other mcu movies. I like different. Eternals was just terrible.
Disagree on The French Dispatch, I saw that movie in theaters with my Aunt, and the whole crowd got quite a kick out of it. I thought it was thoroughly delightful
I think Eternals is actually great. On a second viewing. Problem is, I don't really know that you can call a movie good if you need to watch it twice? But yeah, I got a lot more out of it a second time around. Know everybody's motivations and background helped a lot to understand the performances and connect with their emotions. Trying not to be too explicit in case of spoilers but hopefully you understand what I mean. I connected a lot better with the difficulty of decisions being made on a second viewing too. That said, I don't know if it was the place to introduce Kit Harrington's character? I felt like he might be just one character too many and only tangentially related to everything else going on.
What haha I just watched The French Dispatch yesterday and I liked it! it's so beautiful and has great stories. It's just not a movie that appeals to all audiences. It's like high art, like going to a museum - that's the feeling I got. What a talented guy Wes Anderson is. I did watch it by stories though with a few pauses. Unintentionally, it just happened that way.
@@b4bobby35 The Eternals and New Gods are very similar to each other. Their origins as well as their connections to the rest of their respective universes parallel each other in very similar ways. If New Gods had been released, I’m sure everyone would have compared them to the Eternals. But Eternals just proved that just because you get to the idea first doesn’t mean you did it better.
I'll be honest, I'm one of the Eternals defenders. I thought it was a good departure from the traditional MCU formula, and I feel like Chloe Zhao made what's basically meant to be a love letter to humanity. But the points you brought up Grace are all pretty well put. Too many poorly-developed characters will not do a movie well, but I still found the movie supremely enjoyable. However, here's how I see it. Phase 4 of the MCU is basically a current analogue of MCU Phase 1: all about exposition, introduction of new characters, and introducing potential future story lines.
It's in my top 5 mcu films. I loved it. It's a very 50/50 split tho when it comes to the fans. I don't think the film was flawless as I didn't feel emotionally attached to any of the characters which may have been a downside due to the cast size but they can fix this in future films an delve deeper into them.
Suuuuuure, Grace. Jamie Lee's performance was "cartoonish"? How is a person, in their 60's, supposed to act when recovering from a knife-attack and major surgery?
I genuinely don’t understand The French Dispatch being anywhere near this list, let alone as high as it is - for me it’s a top 10 for best films this year and I’m sure for many others - to each their own I suppose
I don't think history will be too kind to your selection of The French Dispatch. It's definitely a masterpiece. And it's equally a lot to absorb. But it's quality is undeniable imo
Eternals was a well played risk. Like Ang Lee’s Hulk it tried to do something different with the storytelling formula. Grace said it’s unconnected to the MCU, so it does no harm if it’s polarising while people who love it really love it. Also, it’s obviously got a significant future connection to the MCU as it’s laying the groundwork for Galactus. Maybe it will be reappraised later.
Oh wow I really liked Venom, Dear Evan Hansen, Halloween Kills, Eternals and parts of Matrix 4 😟 but I understand why people might not enjoy them as much.
I felt the same about Venom. I liked the first one but Let There Be Carnage was real bad. It was like they were so right about cashing on successful characters they not even tried to write something cohesive. When that internet scene took place I almost drop it.
Venom had better villians. Let there be Carnage villian and all that jazz was pretty damn bad but the humor was way more likable then in Venom when Venom and brock are chilling/falling out
I'm making a prediction now but I believe Wakanda Forever could be on this worst list next year. It's just not the same without Chadwick and we're now dealing with some Letitia controversy.
I personally loved the French Dispatch although I understand your view point. It’s a movie I’ve seen a couple times and each time I get something new. Maybe it’s just because I’m just a Wes Anderson fan but I love the charm so much
Loved french dispatch so much. I think the tone and style of wes anderson‘s movies are not made for everyone. And you’re right. This movie is like a wes anderson distillate 😅
we’re really gonna pretend eternals is amongst the WORST movies made this year? just because it maybe wasn’t as good as the other marvel movies of the year? okay sure 🙄
I actually enjoyed The Protégé with Maggie Q. It was cool to see Michael Keaton get into some fight scenes and he just turned 70 this year. But I know The Protégé was critically panned or nobody saw it.
I adored the French Dispatch though I also adore Wes Anderson. I had such a delightful evening seeing it. I took my friend out for French food before our late showing and we had a wonderful time. Though if Wes Anderson isn’t for you I understand.
i'd probably switch out eternals for being the ricardos (i know it's on your top 10 favorite movies list but come on). if you can't even vaguely capture the essence of lucille ball (or *any* of the lucy cast) in a movie about lucille ball, then just ... don't. unwatchable.
Eternals does not deserve to be in this list! Was it the best “Marvel” movie, no, but wasn’t a bad movie by any measure. Interesting characters with complex stories that opens up the MCU exponentially. Eternals just wasn’t what SHE wanted it to be (explosions and mindless fighting devoid of real human complexity), which is fine, it’s her list. But a top 10 bad movie, it was not!
Turned out to be in my top 5 mcu films lol. I think the hate for the film is being stretched too much and I might even said some are bandwagoning at this point. Although the film isn't flawless by any means I'd say it's far from a bad film
I feel like the musical version of Dear Evan Hansen is more about a boy with extreme social anxiety who makes a huge mistake just to have friends and he realises he just made it all worse. The movie version seems to justify what he is doing cause he is sad? scary stuff
I enjoyed The French Dispatch quite a bit, I agree that it was self-indulgent but as a Wes Anderson fan that’s a plus for me! But Dear Evan Hansen deserves that number 1 spot. The on stage character is a sociopath but at least he wasn’t a 30 year old looking teenage sociopath. Absolutely disturbing and the one of the worst cases of nepotism I’ve seen.
Oh also, completely forgot Home Sweet Home Alone exists and I’m convinced Grace did too. Watch her review she hated it, I did as well, we had to have forgotten about that dumpster fire
always interesting to see criticism of Eternals than think of the praise of Dune, which had massive issues, the storyline literally died when Oscar Issac did. did someone say climax, what climax? did someone say Zendya, where? spare me
Difference: People are looking forward to more Dune. People are dreading more Eternals. Did the Characters in Eternals even have names? Weren't they just like: builder guy, fast girl, creepy dude, Superman, Anjolina Jolie?

Eternals doesn’t deserve to be on this list. I liked it far better than most MCU movies, (including Endgame) as it was a Marvel movie that took genuine risks and strived to be something more than a generic action comedy. I think critics sick of the MCU just saw blood in the water and decided to pile on. I am SICK of the bashing Eternals gets and fear it will scare Marvel away from doing more thoughtful, mature and ambitious movies.
Feige will fix Eternals thru other films and streaming shows like he did for the 2008 Incredible Hulk with Norton. Especially with General Ross and his commitment to Super Soldier program future.
I absolutely loved Venom 2. It was the most fun I had in a theater in a long time. That said, I can't argue with its inclusion on this list; they really wasted Carnage who could have been used so much better.
I'll defend Eternals, which was way better than all the bad press would make you think it is. But my caveat is that if they don't become at least somewhat more important in the future of the MCU, then it WAS a wasted film.

I can't tell if you didn't get it or you're just so in love with Hollywood that you think they're beyond reproach.
it was bad
I guess I'm in the minority when I say I really liked eternals
not really. i loved it as well!
I loved it too!
I love this movie too
The average rotten tomatoes score for audience is 4 out of 5 stars. You're not in the minority. The critics are the ones that are divided, it's the audience score that matters the most.
Movie is doo doo
Eternals has all the cookie cutter MCU formula with an added exposition dumb
I hated it because it was a convoluted mess that had so many plot holes it retconned plot holes into other mcu movies. I like different. Eternals was just terrible.
Disagree on The French Dispatch, I saw that movie in theaters with my Aunt, and the whole crowd got quite a kick out of it. I thought it was thoroughly delightful
I said it, I loved Eternals. I also loved Venom 2
Eternals wasn’t bad 🤔🤔
I don't know, I really enjoyed The French Dispatch and I don't love all of Anderson's films but I totally get why people might not enjoy it.
I’m convinced Eternals was 100% done just to sabotage New Gods
If New Gods have been made do you think it would've been another Eternals?
@@b4bobby35 Maybe or maybe not. We will never know because of how inconsistent the quality of dc movies can be
@@b4bobby35 The Eternals and New Gods are very similar to each other. Their origins as well as their connections to the rest of their respective universes parallel each other in very similar ways. If New Gods had been released, I’m sure everyone would have compared them to the Eternals. But Eternals just proved that just because you get to the idea first doesn’t mean you did it better.
@@eduardopantoja9115 true that but do you think DC dodged a bullet?
@@mateom1691 true statement made but do you think DC dodged a bullet or do you think it could still be done in a film format?
Oh crap I love Eternals fir all the reasons she listed
How is Home Sweet Home Alone not on this list 😭. Or was it just that bad we’ve collectively agreed to not acknowledge its existeny
Because it was never in theaters. That was a rule she says at the beginning of the video 🤦♂️
Not a theatrical movie.
I’m sorry but Eternals does not deserve all of what it’s getting. It was a good movie.
Bruh its her Opinion
Nah.
Oh wow I really liked Venom, Dear Evan Hansen, Halloween Kills, Eternals and parts of Matrix 4 😟 but I understand why people might not enjoy them as much.
I understand liking all of those except dear Evan Hansen
Eternals shouldn’t be on the “best list” or the “worst list”
Please do a Top 10 TV shows and Top 10 most anticipated movies 🤩
French dispatch was my favourite :'(
I felt the same about Venom. I liked the first one but Let There Be Carnage was real bad. It was like they were so right about cashing on successful characters they not even tried to write something cohesive. When that internet scene took place I almost drop it.
Venom had better villians. Let there be Carnage villian and all that jazz was pretty damn bad but the humor was way more likable then in Venom when Venom and brock are chilling/falling out
I had no idea it was so bad given the money it made. Just rented it last week and was super disappointed.
I loved the first one, I've watched it multiple times but Venom 2 just didn't do it for me at all!
Agreed !!!
After watching the first Venom i felt only one thing: a deep regret of my time wasted.
I'm making a prediction now but I believe Wakanda Forever could be on this worst list next year. It's just not the same without Chadwick and we're now dealing with some Letitia controversy.
No offense but the Eternals was/is a great movie.
I personally loved the French Dispatch although I understand your view point. It’s a movie I’ve seen a couple times and each time I get something new. Maybe it’s just because I’m just a Wes Anderson fan but I love the charm so much
Eternals was more enjoyable than Shang chi... 🤷🏾♂️
I agree!
Thought it was good too but sadly got overlooked by the majority...
Wow, the French Dispatch made it in there. It’s the second film of his I actually enjoy as a whole not just by aesthetics or execution alone.
Solid list grace! I feel like Cherry is getting off easy this year. It also seems like people agreed to forget it happened so that may explain 😭
Also Chaos Walking 😆
Cherry is on my list! 🤢
I am not a big Wes Anderson fan, but The French Dispatch was a decent and entertaining movie. One of the better W.A. movies.
Eternals on worst films list is the worst take I have seen in a while.
Turned out to be in my top 5 mcu films lol. I think the hate for the film is being stretched too much and I might even said some are bandwagoning at this point. Although the film isn't flawless by any means I'd say it's far from a bad film
Eternals was my favorite movie of 2021... pity its highly misunderstood bcos it doesnt follow the MCU formula, one of the reasons i enjoyed it....
I can remain a super fan of Grace👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Black Widow just didn’t make either list WOOHOO(loop hole). Thanks Grace the lists I agree with 100%
I agree with all of them except French Dispatch!!! I really liked that film.
I love Eternals
Home Sweet Home Alone never played in theaters. But I agree about Dear Evan Hansen
always interesting to see criticism of Eternals than think of the praise of Dune, which had massive issues, the storyline literally died when Oscar Issac did. did someone say climax, what climax? did someone say Zendya, where? spare me
Difference: People are looking forward to more Dune. People are dreading more Eternals. Did the Characters in Eternals even have names? Weren't they just like: builder guy, fast girl, creepy dude, Superman, Anjolina Jolie?
As a cinematic experience, Dune is incredible, as an adaptation of Frank Herbert's source material, it leaves much to be desired. :/
@@ragnarokstar19
Dune is unfilmable. I know the books, so this was a fun travelogue. My cousin was pissed that it ended like it did. He will not watch any part 2 or 3.
Loved dune!! A very hard movie to make based off the books but it got rave reviews here and in the cinemas
@@shykur
It had no legs. It'll get Part 2, but casual viewers will give it a pass rather than slog thru Part1 again. Well made, but totally niche market. A beautiful waste of money. If only Eternals was as fun to look at.
I was waiting to see The Suicide Squad here, I would put it instead of Eternals
@@nicholasgarcia6099 absolutely
I think the french dispatch is one of the best 2021's movies
Venom 2 wasn't perfect but it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it very much.
The only ones I disagree on are Eternals, The Matrix Resurrections, and The French Dispatch.
1. Lamb
2. Cruella
3. Black Widow
4. Cinderella
5. Eternals
6. Home sweet home alone
7. Dear Evan Hansen
8. Annette
9. Thunder force
10. Cherry
I liked Eternals- I didnt love it- it would not be on my worst list!! Come on Grace!
Feige will fix Eternals thru other films and streaming shows like he did for the 2008 Incredible Hulk with Norton. Especially with General Ross and his commitment to Super Soldier program future.
You forgot The Suicide Squad.
Replace The French Dispatch with the new Home Alone and this list is will be perfect.
0:16 "...people worked on these movies..."
A crap movie is a crap movie, even if an army of people worked on it.
Grace can’t even articulate why The French Dispatch was-in her opinion-bad.
Eternals was good im sorry grace
Finally someone talking truth about eternals....not a great movie
Eternals was my favorite ❤️😍
The Suicide Squad deserves a spot in the top 5 there.
I liked eternals 🤷🏽♂️
No not Eternals😭😭😭 i love it so much, disagree very much Grace
I absolutely loved Venom 2. It was the most fun I had in a theater in a long time. That said, I can't argue with its inclusion on this list; they really wasted Carnage who could have been used so much better.
I'll defend Eternals, which was way better than all the bad press would make you think it is. But my caveat is that if they don't become at least somewhat more important in the future of the MCU, then it WAS a wasted film.
Thanks for all the content today Grace. Much ❤ as always
This really wasn’t that difficult for me honestly…
10 - Eternals
9 - The Unforgivable
8 - The Suicide Squad
7 - Matrix Resurrections
6 - Vacation Friends
5 - Cherry
4 - Candyman
3 - Yes Day
2 - The Many Saints of Newark
1 - Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse

Agree with everything but Eternals. I mean you even gave it a fresh tomato.
@@nicholasgarcia6099 like which one is it choose a side 😭 “everyone should watch eternals” but how if it’s on your top ten WORST list. I thought the movie was great idk.
@@nicholasgarcia6099 She just doesn’t like the movie. She supported BVS and that go way more real hate than Eternals.
Great List. There were some shockingly bad "big movies" with "big stars" this year, unusually so, and I think your list shows this very well Gracie.
The french dispatch is a masterful filmmaking but ofc you would find it "worst movie"
