It might not look like it but there is around 89 Easter Eggs in this video, some include League of Legends, Dota 2, Destiny, Overwatch, and Runescape, Metro 2033, The Witcher 3, Just Cause 3, and Divinity Original Sin 2.
ahhh my bad I meant 89 not 98 easter eggs whoops
It's ok
Yoooo guess what? You are underrated and a great youtuber keep up the amazing content dude the algorithm needs to hit you hard !
Have a nice day !
Those 9 are well hidden..but i've found 1..
11:33 the Siegbrau!
You can change titles I'm pretty sure.
Overwatch on the map, busan forgot which part. There is cover behind the main obj and they are giant titanite slabs
It's seriously impressive how the Souls series has only been around for a little over a decade, and yet it has become one of the most prolific videogame series ever, creating entire sub-genre's and being referenced constantly.
Makes me glad that I found it before the craze at my local game store on the wall and said "hey I remember that shittly fucking hard game called demon souls that I was trash at" maybe I'll try this. Still have that PS3 and those files actually.
True, but you also gotta give it to Doom back in 1993. Literally every FPS game after Doom was called as "Doom Clones" since the term or the genre of "First Person Shooters" has not been invented yet. I mean sure there's Catacombs 3D and Wolfenstein but Doom literally made the whole FPS genre.
The most important and influential game of the 360 generation and my personal favorite game of all time. I remember back when hardly anyone knew what it was or talked about it, now Elden Ring is outselling Call of Duty and shit. Couldn't happen to a more deserving company. Fromsoftware deserves all the love and all the money we can throw at them. Absolute GOAT status.
@hi how r ya get a load of this fucking guy. Sees a dark souls related comment on a dark souls video.."Yeah but that doom though" lmfao git gud kid
Dark Souls is basically Lovecraft of games. Suddenly creating a new niche genre out of nowhere that turns out to have a massive influence on popculture, leading to constant nods and references.
Wait until you see all the Dark Souls references in Dark Souls 2.
Haha, good one 😊
Omg and just you wait until you play Dark Souls 3!
Don't forget all the Dark Souls References in that one game:
Dark souls remastered
@@Izyumeand dark souls predicted a lot of what happened in that game also
Fun fact. Dark Souls has a reference to Dark Souls 3!
The hidden boss Gwyndolin is a reference to Aldrich!
You missed one in Borderlands 2. Krieg has the voice line, "What an Amazing Chest, Gwynevere", referencing Gwynevere and the various messages players leave around her referring to her amazing chest.
I've played a fair amount of bl2 and I did not know that
I've played for seven years and have never heard that voice line
@@iamthereddemon20 I just checked Krieg quotes. He actually has this line, but I swear I never heard it.
@@BlahoMark15 i remember hearing it not to long ago
I played krieg as my first character in BL2 and I didn't play Dark souls until a year later. It always baffled me as to who Gwynevere was. Was it a part of Kriegs lore? No just an awesome reference
In reference to Gun Soul from Enter the Gungeon at around 3:43 : 'You defeated' is actually what Dark Souls originally said when you beat a boss. It is not a reference to 'You died'. It was later replaced with 'Victory achieved'.
Played on my bro's XBOX 360, this was the OG boss defeat message.
Wasn’t it like a translation issue?
@@phoebe_trss9632 I think that "YOU DEFEATED" was in the original Japanese version, so maybe they used English for it to sound cooler. Then when the game was translated, they didn't change it at first but ultimately decided to change later to make more sense.
@@chaoticstarfish3401 On all versions of Dark Souls 1, not Dark Souls Remastered, it was never changed.
@@chaoticstarfish3401 It was "You defeated" in English even in the japanese game. It was never changed.
“Sticky White Stuff” is the original name of the buffing item from Demon’s Souls on PS3, they renamed it in the remake for PS4, so that isn’t a name-changed reference, it’s a full name drop
Ngl sticky white slime is more lewd than sticky white stuff lmao.
Wait it’s in PS4?
@@mafia_trilogy_enjoyer I think he meant Ps5
@@Foogi9000 oh
Well crap.
@@Foogi9000 I think sticky white stuff is better
7:08 the invader does a famous "Well! What is it!" gesture used by players in pvp to mock their opponents
Giant dad reference?
@@davedude4947 THE LEGEND NEVER DIES!!!!!!!!

I love dark souls, each re-play were getting closer to elden ring
Your right sir we are almost there

@@metundra5804 Elden ring~
I like the energy 🤌🏽
6:52 ''Amazing loot ahead'' Is that a reference to the most well known joke of the community ?

Great chest ahead. Am I right?
“Amazing Chest ahead” I thought...
@@thomasjefferson2676 exactly, it's Amazing
-be wary of horse
3:39 thats actually a refrence to a translation error in the original dark souls, where everytime you killed a boss it says YOU DEFEATED.
I loved that victory message, they should have kept it in the remaster.
@@mazrimtaim3107 It is in the Remaster, but rarely appears. At least, that's what I remember.
My brother is a huge borderlands fan, but not a dark souls one, he still knew a bit about the game from watching me play, and one of those things he knew was solair, so when he was playing BL2 and saw our favorite sunbro in the acid area he immediately called me to check it out, and my immediate words were: "hand me the controller I'm playing this God damn game", I met "solitaire" in my playthrough (god it took so long to actually reach him without dying), did the bonfire quest in the Tiny Tina's assault on dragon keep DLC, finished the game as well as all the other ones and now I'm a big borderlands fan.
Did your brother end up playing Dark Souls tho?
@@eliasbonafe9236 I wanna know too. now they both love each other games
"Hand it over... that thing... your controller"
@@DaxterL "No way, you got your own"
what’s funny about Enter The Gungeon is that the developers, Dodge Roll studios, got their name from the dodge roll mechanic in Dark Souls
Not sure if you're joking, but dodge roll existed long before Dark Souls.
and the dodge roll in their own game
@@Spellweaver5
Don't know if u joking but the only thing I found is, that dodge roll was founded it 2016
@@Traxko bro, I am lost in the layers of irony here.
But in case you're serious, I mean the mechanic, not the studio. You could dodge roll way before Dark Souls.
@@Spellweaver5
All good, I skimmed your comment. I thought you were assuming that the company came into existence before Dark Souls. Thank you again for clarifying. But yes, the Dodge Roll existed before. I just don't know an example.
3:42
"You Defeated" isn't a play on You Died, it's what early versions of the game would say after killing a boss before it was replaced with "Victory Achieved"
One game that has a lot of Dark Souls references is Remnant: From the Ashes. It's a souls-like shooter and a lot of item descriptions and emotes have references to the dark souls franchise, for example the "Praise the gun" emote and the "ring of honor".
And one of the bosses is pretty much an extremely buffed Moonlight Butterfly
In Dead Cells at 4:36, after the player reads GIT GUD on the wall, he says "must be some sort of incantation." I'm pretty sure this is referencing the origin of the term git gud. It was used in forum posts where new players would ask the community for the best way to kill a boss, but the only way to win would be to git gud. So in this piece of dialogue, the character from Dead Cells is acting like a new player and thinking that git gud is some kind of OP spell to win the game easily.
Also, there is a gun in borderlands 3 called the “blood starved beast” with the flavor text reading “Ah, Kos... Or some say, Kosm... Do you hear our prayers?” A clear reference to micolash’s line. Along with the guns name being the name of a boss in bloodborne
3:24 you forgot when he gives you the white soapstone he says “look out for my summoning sign you can find it by it’s brilliant aura if you miss it you might just be blind”
It’s pretty evident that Dark Souls is one of the most influential games of all time.
I think doom had way more influence
@@SloveLDK they are both influential
@@gergoretvari6373 yes they are just doom had more influence on gaming
Dark soul is one of the most games of all time
@@SloveLDK Keywords “one of” not the most. Always someone gotta start a competition out of things
11:33 The description of Caskbreaker Gragas is also worth mentioning. I think it's more than just a Solaire reference.
Gragas Caskbreaker is described in legend as both a pious, sun-worshipping cleric and a despicable drunk, depending on who tells the tale. He’s not too familiar with Rift Quest, but he does like fighting dragons and passing out in the middle of his combat actions.
Ah yes, the Onion.
also one of kayle's taunt moves is that she throws her sword in the ground and sits by it just like a bonfire
7:30 this actually probably references Scorpioness Najka, (from ds2) who actually appears human before approaching but then hides under the sand before revealing their true stature, and i don't know about you, but this boss damn near looks like Najka.
i think it references both, as the Bl2 boss is half spider like Quelagg.
A but late, but this DLC for Borderlands came out in 2013, Dark Souls 2 came out In 2014.
9:14 In the Halloween event in 2022, they actually replaced that bonfire with a lamp, referencing Bloodborne
I don't think Dark Souls in Skyrim was a reference. DeS wasn't that popular at the time and Dark Souls only came out 2 months before Skyrim.
The game Besiege has a ton of dark souls and bloodborne deferences in it. For example there is an enemy type named farmer gascoine, a level named Duke's dear freighters, a level by the name of awakening bells and also a level by the name of consumed king where a crystalized corpse is stuck inside of a dragon's skull.
Love the video small correction.
3:37 "You Defeated" was the original English message displayed after beating a boss in Dark Souls 1 it was later patched to be "Victory Achieved".
The champion Kayle in League of Legends also sits next to a bonfire in one of her emotes.
And the "Siam Lake" area in Salt and Sanctuary is inspired by/referencing Ash Lake from Dark Souls 1.
Now we need easter eggs from other games in dark souls
I loved to play BL2 DLC Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep, but I don't think that can be actually considered an Easter Egg. It would be more an actual parody rather than a Easter Egg.
I have a couple in mind. In Smite, the god, Hou Yi while standing idle will do a praise the sun emote, Ares also has a dark souls inspired skin while Artio has. Bloodborne inspired emote. Fallout 4 has a bonfire reference in its Nuka world dlc I think. Hope this helps, would love a part 2!
3D Dot Game Heroes is a FromSoft games, and a pretty good one at that by the way.
It wasn't developed by FromSoft, they only published it in Japan
I like how your videos always start with “alright, Dark Souls”
The moba SMITE has a skin for the god Ares , which is inspired in artorias , and the character even have voice lines inspired in dark souls pvp , solaire and more
The smith who made the first sword was inspired by Dark Souls.
Making references and easter eggs to Dark Souls is the video game equivalent of referencing Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in your anime
JJBA is the Dark Souls of anime.
I would say dark souls is the jjba of gaming since jjba has been around for like 10 more years for at least the manga
Yea, I know
Skyrim and Dark Souls were both released in 2011. I highly doubt the Skyrim devs would add a main part of the game just to slide in an Easter egg for another game that just came out a couple months ago. On top of that, the perk references exactly what it does. Reanimates a dead body.
yeah, was playing skyrim when to try dark souls. never looked back.
The sticky White Stuff is a reference for the Sticky White Stuff from Demon's souls. The sticky White Slime is the renamed version of the same item in the 2020 remake.
i think it's unlikely that the skyrim perk is an intentional homage, skyrim and dark souls released in the same year so it doesn't seem likely that they would put in an easter egg to a game that at that point wasn't as well known.
also one more easter egg: in pathfinder: wrath of the righteous in the gargoyle cave there is a ledge that you can get on where you'll find an npc doing the praise the sun pose while saying "praise sarenrae" (goddess of light in pathfinder universe)
Another thing with that Leona skin is she has a phrase that goes "a loathesome foe, unfit even for the pyre" when killing someone, which is very similar to a line the narrator has in DS3's intro where she goes "lowly ash, unfit even to be cinders"
I know this is about Dark Souls, but at 4:20, the shield that references Bloodborne may also be a reference to an ancient, probably-abandoned game called Eitr. The main character was a shield maiden, and it was intended to be an isometric Soulslike.
The shield also looks identical, but the name really sells the reference for me.
Game devs really think they're slick when they put a sword model into a campfire.
There is a bonfire in the Bright Memory demo.
Here it is: ua-cam.com/video/HKXWc4dfQxc/v-deo.html
Smite has a reference I think. One of the skins for Ares rolls when you jump and I think he also has one line that says “jolly cooperation.”
The absolutely funniest thing is that Solaire never says “Praise the Sun”, it’s a message a lot players leave behind to reference Solaire’s love for the Sun
"You Defeated" isn't a play on "You died", I think "You deafeated" was the original message that showed up when beating a boss, before it was changed to "Victory Achieved".
I love how Borderlands put their bonfire in the middle of a poison swamp
In the game remnant : from the ash, it have a lot of inspirations from dark souls like bonfire, praise the gun emo, white mist before the boss
not much in the way of easter eggs. More just using the dark souls formula for in-game mechanics.
Considering From Soft made 3D Dot Game Heroes, it's not really that weird that they'd put a bunch of references.
You didn't even get into the Moonlight Great Sword, which is in pretty much every game they've made.
Path of Exile has a couple of references. Armour inspired by Solaire’s, a bonfire in one of the story zones. Might be more, but those two are the most well-known anyway.
Sticky White Stuff is actually the name of the item in the non remastered Demon’s Souls
I like the way you said "Have a good one". So simple and sincere.
On Pathfinder: Kingmaker's "Beneath the stolen lands" DLC, there's a vendor called "Honest Man" sitting beside a bonfire. This npc is an allusion to Patches, having the same looks, hold a spear and a shield, and selling dead adventurers gear. In dialog he even mocks the PC for also selling dead peoples wares, it's just fantastic.
The phrase "you defeated" for the gun soul isn't in reference to "you died". In early dark souls, after defeating a boss it literally said "you defeated" due to translation, followed by receiving a boss soul. I think gun soul is a reference to the bosses souls.
Comparing Skyrim to Dark Souls is the Skyrim of Dark Souls comparisons
3:38 the phrase "You Defeated" was what was displayed on screen when you defeat a boss in the Japanese version of Dark Souls
These original dark souls vids are awesome
It's sticky white slime in the remake, not in the original. In the original from 2009, it's sticky white stuff, which makes the reference in 3D dot game even more apparent.
Edit: It's also a game made by FromSoftware themselves.
"YOU DEFEATED" is a reference to early Dark Souls bad translations where beating a boss would get you the message "YOU DEFEATED"
Solaire of Andorhal was first added in Warlord's of Draenor, and you could recruit him as a follower in your garrison if you had the tavern built.
The MOBA Smite has one as well. The playable god Ares has a skin called Spectral Sword, which wields a green glowing sword referencing the moonlight great sword. This skin also replaces Ares normal jump animation with a forward dodge roll
There are some achievements in Honkai Impact named after Dark Souls bosses such as Nameless King and Lord of Cinder
How in the name of the sun do so few people subscribe to this channel? I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. Huge fan!
Kazuha from Genshin Impact said “He has persevered to the bitter end”
In the game CESSPOOL, theres an accessory called the wooden ladle that gives a minor attack buff. Though, its description reads "Only the desperate or truely mad would use this." It's a reference to both the description of the broken sword in DS1 and the wooden ladle weapon in DS2
Guacamelee 2 has an exact copy of ds' mimic with some nice lines too
Incredible I can’t think of any other game that has had this kind of impact.
Zelda. Just look at how many games have smashable pots.
on the last one...the dark souls reference in skyrim cannot be. both are too close on a launch date (skyrim is november 11 2011, dark souls 1 is from september 22, 2011)
Dark and light souls have been a part of the elder scrolls from long ago (oblivion from 2006 had the black soul gems and the light-dark souls explanation on a book). It's more of a coincidence than a reference.
Also the wolf with the sword thing is part of a nordic legend (fenrir), so not everyone references sif...sif itself is a reference fenrir and the sword stuck on his mouth
Well not everyone now Nordic mythology/legends
Another dark souls reference I noticed in league of legends is that the champion Kayle can sit at a bonfire with one of her emotes. She even has the exact sitting pose from dark souls.
Thanks for video ma dude
In Guacamelee, if you start a game on hard mode you find a glowing dark souls message on the ground near the start saying "The real Guacamelee! starts here."
10:28 there's......there's literally a sun on the poll he's facing?
My God, the Earthbound OST just gave me nostalgia, I'mma play it again
Excellent Video! Definitely subbing
There's also a bonfire at the top of the mountain in Destiny in the rise of Iron dlc
7:10
They even added the giant dad iconic emote. My god this is amazing
The 4 kings is a reference, if you die during the fight you have to walk past a fog wall at the entrance of the arena
I'm really not sure the God of War one counts man. Most of the enemies drop loot when you kill them, it doesn't mean it's a reference just because it's small and walking on four legs
For the rainbow 6 siege one, I found that before I knew about dark souls. But after playing dark souls and I came back I realised how cool the Easter egg is.
The crest fallen player also does the "Well, what is it!?" Emote lol
This is highly underrated content.
Man, maybe I'm just used to darksouls content creators reading every single item description, but I honestly can't believe you missed one of the most important aspects of the "sunlight javelin" item --- how it was born from the chemistry between 2 gungeoneers (jolly cooperation!)
3:42 "YOU DEFEATED" isn't a play on "YOU DIED", but rather the text that would appear on the original dark souls when killing a boss.
A Plague Tale: Innocence also has a sword-in-bonfire reference in one of the earlier chapters, can’t quite remember where though
There's an easter egg on StarCraft 2 Nova Covert Ops mission 5, if you get killed by one of the two bosses, Nova will drop a vespene cloud amount based on the amount of kills she had at the time of death
My church used to make all the youth make a “glass” shape with their arms so “god could fill them up” thinking back all the kids where just doing the praise the sun emote, makes me wonder if there was a reason behind that…
Divinity Original Sin 2 has a cool little Dark Souls Reference: there's a secret Bonfire-like Camp, with a sword thrust into it - that if you light it - you'll get RESTED - instead of Warm - status effect.
I feel like Elden Ring with how popular it is will getting the same love with easter eggs over time.
Remnant has an emote that says "praise the gun" and does the praise the sun gesture
The beetles shop music is a nice touch
@7:15 you shot the nuts right off that invader in borderlands oh my god🫡
I mean, how can you NOT adore Dark Souls? It's freaking GOATed and this proves it!
Every time someone says Skyrim is similar to Dark Souls, a kitten gets fed... to a Chinese restaurant. :'
Do ppl really say that they are way to different imo
I’m sure someone already mentioned this but In the overwatch 2 Halloween event, the bonfire in eichenwalde is replaced with a lamp that looks just like the ones in bloodborne
The thronebreaker praise the sun line is actually a bit clever as it is a guy praising the nilfgaardian black sun, the emblem of the empire.
There's a reference in Bowmasters with "Sigurd of Alexandera" that wears the onion helm and uses a zweihander
Lol also had an "URF" buff read "this unit can traverse the abyss"
"You Defeated" isnt a play on "You died" In the launch version of Dark Souls "You Defeated" Was what appeared when you defeated a boss. This was later changed to "Victory Achieved"
Love your vids bro keep it up
I remember being younger and doing the lost souls quest in borderlands 2 and just not getting the reference. I’ve only started playing the dark souls trilogy this past year
I found another dark souls reference in enter the gungeon, it’s not a gun, more like text that one of the npc say, the forge blacksmith can say ‘forge I can, strong I am’ this is clearly a reference to the blacksmith giant from dark souls 1 which I think is very cool
Koala Khan in MK11 also occasionally says "Praise the sun"
In dead cells i once found a room that at the end of was an entrance to another room with bonefire and the git gud scratch an upon inspecting the bonefire the screen started shaking and when i left the room there was a single base enemy (from dead cells of course) and at first i didn't think much of it but when i killed him he dropped like 60 CELLS! (A lot). It probably was poking fun of how in dark souls you get 30-60 souls from a single base enemy. Best easter egg in my life.
I just started playing Dead Cells recently, and I swear, the first weapon I found was the Pure Nail 1 with the bench and lamppost and I just about lost my damn mind.
I didnt know that game had so many references yet, but even still, finding that one first out of 90-180-however many dozens of weapons is pretty crazy.
The only thing that sucked was I suddenly wasn't feeling so neutral about dying on that run anymore. 🤣
