Dear Eric, I want to first off thank you for all your helpful videos and I am so glad to have this resource online free and accesable. Secondly, I have an 04' RL 3.5 very similar to the one in this video. I recently changed the CAF with the help of this vid. Thank you again. I will continue to use your videos as reference with my Acura. Truly great work you do sir. Sincerely, Victor
Just got 4 filters in the mail today and installed two halfway through the video. The strange part is I have been watching ETCG's video's in order for the past few weeks and it just so happened that the day I received them is when I got to this video haha
I'm so glad it's easier to change it on my Saab! I try to change it every 6 months (an year tops) due to the air being pretty dirty around the place where I live. If I left it stay for a whole year it gets slightly dirtier than the one removed in the video.
Damn it! it's as though they've had a competition to make this such a difficult task. I thought the one on my car is complicated because I had to unclip two clips lol. Thanks Eric, you rock!
The center plastic screw is what keeps the plastic prongs extended so that it locks in place. Once you unscrew that, a bit of prying on the base of the clip will pop it out. Fairly common in Honda/Acuras.
Check your owners manual; if you have a cabin air filter, it will be mentioned in the regular maintenance schedule. If you don't have access to an owner's manual, check with the parts counter at your local Ford dealer. :-)
Hey Eric, good video. A quick question for you, what kind of gloves are you wearing while you work? Are they to keep your hands clean or to protect you from the chemicals?
Eric, sorry to ask a question on a very old video but, not a lot of info out there in this generation of RL. Would this be basically the same process to follow to gain access to the blower motor? I assume that there would be additional removal of screws/bolts to remove that metal bracketry below the glove box? Is the blower motor and resistor readily available from below the glove box or is it buried in the HVAC box that requires entire dash disassemble. Thanks!!!
Hey eric, for the purpose of your videos, have you considered to get a small electric screwdriver? It would ease the removal of screws with only one hand, while making the process faster. It would also have another advantage of allowing you to use better video angle. Also, anoter indirect advantage would be extra light, as many of them also have a led on it.
Geesh, in this service, I love Citroens, two/three torx or philips screws hold the filter it just falls off, insert new one, 2 minutes and it's done! Sometimes engineers mess like hell on earth to design this things... well, they don't service them anyway.
Hi Eric...could you tell me a part number of the plastic filter holders? In my 97 swiss model i do not have them...but there is the space for it. Thanks
So long as it keeps dirt out of the engine and provides adequate air for the combustion process you're okay. Note that all the sensors need to be there (MAF/O2/etc). If your intake for the system is inside of the engine bay and not in an area where adequate ventilation is available, you may actually be introducing warmer air into your system than was originally in use (less of a concern if you're using an intercooler).
Just one more reason sometimes CHEAP aftermarket stuff shouldn't be used. That cheap filter only had half the amount of pleats as the old one, and it will last only half as long before it needs replacement. This happened on my car, and I got the filter from the internet, so it was being used, but the cheapness was reflected in my product review. Cheap sometimes is not the best (look into oil filters).
Hey super man i really ne you help my honda acord 2.2 vitec 4 cildr when its cold star great but when i put in r or d goes die what can be i spend a lot money on its94 ACORD
Check for a panel under the glove box with three screws holding it up. It was an option at that time so you may not have one. // sad and jealous that even old F150 trucks have them, but they don't exist for crown vics of any age.
I do as well, working on computers on a freelance people yelling at me basis. I have purchased sooo many computer screwdriver sets, yet never have the one i need when i need it......
There's a lot of other stuff there that you don't want random people easily getting to. I admit it could be much easier, but still, I don't think they do it on purpose. They might assume, also, that most people get their car's fixed by other people and really don't care.
My VE Calais (Holden Australia) has two filters installed inside the engine bay - you have to pull lots of stuff off to get to them... Nice design, it isn't.
lol, yep its not what i would call easy to get to, most oil and air filters are quite straight forward to replace, mind you some small cars have you on your back under the engine, just remember not to go to sleep lol :-)
It must be a pain in the ass to change the cabin/pollen filter. on my car you get to it via the passenger footwell, and it has no frame. Just pull a cover, then the filter. So easy and my car is a 2010 civic hatch
There's trash in the floor - what exactly did he say that went beyond that? He didn't talk about the owners, he didn't talk about the car as a whole - he just said it's dirty. As we saw - that's true. they need to invest in mini trash bags - seriously.
you would think so, but no one ever does it pisses me off, especially when i have to do stuff in the interior i find it really disrespectful, it's like saying "heres my car, i treat it like crap. please fix it for me." >=\
reminds me of how much of a pain in the ass it is to change the Heating element thingy or whatver in a old Volvo 240 and 740, anyhows its like they built the car around that stupid thing that has a tendency to leak wich creates almost like a thin fog film on the windscreen due to evaporated anti freeze. and changin it on a VW Passat is just as much as a pain......
oow that sounds like a painfull day, i hope you used plenty of swear words :-), ive turned the air blue when ive been repairing frends cars/vans lol. Also a nice cup of tea/coffee often lubricates the brain and gets you ready for another go lol :-)

"oh you need to replace your air filter? just do it yourself! it's so easy!
> has an 01 Acura RL
Just got 4 filters in the mail today and installed two halfway through the video. The strange part is I have been watching ETCG's video's in order for the past few weeks and it just so happened that the day I received them is when I got to this video haha
Great video, Eric! Changing the cabin filter on my '97 RL was not intuitive for me and your video made it possible. Much appreciated!!!
Eric, you've got a way of making even a cabin air filter replacement video interesting. Cool to see that recirculate door open and close.
Everyone please take time to watch the commercials so Eric can afford a new pair of gloves.
I'm so glad it's easier to change it on my Saab! I try to change it every 6 months (an year tops) due to the air being pretty dirty around the place where I live. If I left it stay for a whole year it gets slightly dirtier than the one removed in the video.
Most difficult cabin filter change i've seen
Damn it! it's as though they've had a competition to make this such a difficult task. I thought the one on my car is complicated because I had to unclip two clips lol. Thanks Eric, you rock!

Definitely easier than the 98-02 Accord! It's nice to see the changes Honda did with the 1st gen RL and the 2nd gen RL.
Just bought a 1999 RL and changed these filters which were as dirty as the ones you pulled out!!!
Check your owners manual; if you have a cabin air filter, it will be mentioned in the regular maintenance schedule. If you don't have access to an owner's manual, check with the parts counter at your local Ford dealer. :-)
ETCG using a flathead on a phillips head fastener..... Like a BOSS!
2002 rl = worked perfect! Thank you man!
I actually serviced one for my dad a few months back for the same year model. And yes the cabin air filter is by the windshield.
I have seriously seen people dismantle the entire dashboard to get to those things, glad they are very easy to get to on my BMW as well
That's actually a 1998 Acura RL..... it's the special edition, only available in '98 with the 2-tone paint.
Hey Eric, good video. A quick question for you, what kind of gloves are you wearing while you work? Are they to keep your hands clean or to protect you from the chemicals?

That makes changing the cabin air filters in my 2000 Buick Century look easy.
wow, so glad mine is just under the scuttle panel. takes less time then it took to write this lol. can't believe how complex that is on this video!
Those filters give "Stay Dirty" a whole new meaning lol
It pulls air from the bottom where the footwell is. The glove box is simply in front of the air duct assy, but isn't part of the flow in any way.
Hey,
Do you know where I can get the mount frame thing? Mine is cracked.
Hey eric, for the purpose of your videos, have you considered to get a small electric screwdriver? Eric, can you show how to replace that steering wheel tilt motor , or gears in the tilt motor?
Geesh, in this service, I love Citroens, two/three torx or philips screws hold the filter it just falls off, insert new one, 2 minutes and it's done! Sometimes engineers mess like hell on earth to design this things... well, they don't service them anyway.
The manual on my cars always recommends replacing the cabin air filter about once a year (15k miles).
Can you show us how to change a cabin air filter that needs to be cut out? Thanks.
Had the same problem with the filters not quite fitting on several cars
My dad drives a 2000 ford windstar, and his cabin air filter is in the back of the engine campartment near the windshield?
Question: I'm trying to bleed (purge) the coolant. It's never a constant stream. It's always pulsing. Is that air bubbles or is it normal?
You should see where they are on an E38 7 series, i nearly broke my back, fingers and upper arms trying to get them in!
Hi Eric...could you tell me a part number of the plastic filter holders?
In my 97 swiss model i do not have them...but there is the space for it.
Thanks

How does it manage to get sufficient air in when the glove box is in the way?
What’s a good way to remove the glove box without your “special tool”?
Out of curiosity, do you know if the 2001 GSR have this filter? I don’t have the Helms manual handy right now. TIA!
What a pain in the neck, cabin air filter replacement is one thing Audi made super easy on my A4! :-)
I need a video like this for a 1996 Nissan Sentra, can't find that video anywhere.
half a tree inside..yep mine was like that...
I will say its worth doing...all nice and fresh in the cabin after!
Just one more reason sometimes CHEAP aftermarket stuff shouldn't be used. can't tell you how often i do that aswell, sometimes its easier using one tool "for all" instead of messing
about choosing the exact one
Hey super man i really ne you help my honda acord 2.2 vitec 4 cildr when its cold star great but when i put in r or d goes die what can be i spend a lot money on its94 ACORD
do all cars have a cabin air filter?
I just bought a '90 Acura Integra DA. Does it have a cabin filter?
Is there a cBin air filter on a 99 civic si ??
Oh ya. You should see what the stealership charges for this job alone! It's nuts!
does a 95 maxima have CAF?
Check for a panel under the glove box with three screws holding it up. It was an option at that time so you may not have one.
// sad and jealous that even old F150 trucks have them, but they don't exist for crown vics of any age.
You know I've waited 4 years for someone to say that? It's just sad that it doesn't really apply here.
I do as well, working on computers on a freelance people yelling at me basis. I have purchased sooo many computer screwdriver sets, yet never have the one i need when i need it......
How do i know if i have a Cabin Air Filter? I drive a 97 f150
Its on the passager side and is rectangle shape.
That's ridiculous! I'm glad mine's not that complicated. No wonder they are so clogged.
I dont finded my air cabin filter on my yukon slt 2007
Dam***It. The one thing I needed to see was how the clip on the dampener cord works. I can't get mine off.
Thanks much for the video. The turn on "re-cycle" air step is crucial for this replacement!!!!
When I see design like this I just love my E39. That there is mad.
Or like on the 4.3L chevy blazer the oil filter is right under the front bumper so if you hit something your screwed. But its easy to get to! lol
If you hear something that sounds like a foghorn when you start up your RL it's your cabin filter.
Ultimately it comes down to money. Just trying to make things more complicated so that you bring it back to the dealership rather than DIY.
There's a lot of other stuff there that you don't want random people easily getting to. I admit it could be much easier, but still, I don't think they do it on purpose. They might assume, also, that most people get their car's fixed by other people and really don't care.
You are OK
Eric how about not having a filter?I just found out that I been drivin for years ithout one,lol
My VE Calais (Holden Australia) has two filters installed inside the engine bay - you have to pull lots of stuff off to get to them... Nice design, it isn't.
In my tacoma the glove box pops out with no screws and the filter is directly behind it and slides out.. why i love toyota
how does all that dog hair get in the cabin filter?
3 from australia too!
I keep my car clean regardless of whether or not a mechanic is working on it...
Damn. I've never let my filters get that bad....
yes behind the glove box
lol, yep its not what i would call easy to get to, most oil and air filters are quite straight forward to replace, mind you some small cars have you on your back under the engine, just remember not to go to sleep lol :-)
I, too, am from australia

Quite likely from having the air on recirculate mode with a pet in the car.
Try on an E36 sometime =)
you would think so, but no one ever does
it pisses me off, especially when i have to do stuff in the interior
i find it really disrespectful, it's like saying "heres my car, i treat it like crap. please fix it for me." >=\
im glad my 07 vw rabbit is much easier to replace the air filter(although it is very pricy)
THANKS!!
I use lithium soap-base glycol grease to lubricate my brain!
But there just like it they slide in on there side.
3:57 Scary !
The Venus Project.
"It's fun watchin motors do stuff".. haha

Is it me or is his beard bigger?
wait until you change mazda cabin filter
The designers want a good slapping, what a daft place to hide the filter.
Im sure they do it on purpose.
them filters are worse than my combine's filter after the whole harvest season!
oow that sounds like a painfull day, i hope you used plenty of swear words :-), ive turned the air blue when ive been repairing frends cars/vans lol.
Also a nice cup of tea/coffee often lubricates the brain and gets you ready for another go lol :-)
What's the difference between an Acura and a Honda? A crap ton of useless plastic.
lol... when you opened it..
That's a Mickey Mouse setup if I've ever seen one.
groooooss how can someone do that to theyre car
It took you 15 minutes to describe how to change an air filter wtf !
That my friend was freakin random and doesn't make sense.
