Watching him struggle through that 12-string part and then pull it off so beautifully made me want to weep with joy.
I'm such a fucking sap. But seeing Dev have this much faith in the people he has chosen to surround himself with, to allow them to become a part of his art, which is so much a part of his personal identity, is one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen. I'm literally tearing up over here.
Your not the only one my friend. :)
As a guitar player, it' makes me feel better to see that even the pros will struggle and get really frustrated when recording guitar parts...and then the feeling of finally nailing a section that's been giving you trouble, makes it all worth while.
Yeah, very true
I can't believe Dave just kicked that guy full-on in the nuts!
I grabbed my own nuts in sympathy pain.
I could really feel the satisfaction after you guys nailed that 12 string moment, really beautiful to capture something like that on camera!
It's nice to get to see some of your personalities when not on tour and tired and what not during interviews. You seem like a bunch of awesome people to be around with. The documentary is edited in an honest and open way without wanting to be seen as more than you are. In the end you're just normal people with jobs on the side having fun. Also I love the reactions of the band members watching the same docu as if you were watching it with them.
Cheers
New found respect for Dave, such clean riffing on that 12 string! Simply beautiful man!
I love that they didn't just give us the behind the album process, but they actually showed us some more of the band members and stuff in their personal lives. Loving the communal vibe they've gone for on this one
I love the feel that we're watching this documentary with the band. That's a great touch.
Loving this documentary!
That 12-string session was magic. Lots to be proud of there.
This album is gonna kick so much ass, i cannot wait.
Absolutely superb playing from Dave. Great work. I also feel bad for any poor mugger that ever tries to take his wallet in a dark alley :)
I hope there is an Anneke episode!
The riffs and the timings childrenssss... 😸😸😸
Through the video I was just thinking that Dave is like a swearing care bear.. And then there was a passive aggressive cats video compilation in the suggestions, I think that is pretty fitting too :D both are kinda too cute to be taken seriously when they're pissed :D
I've enjoyed these videos so much, thanks for uploading :)
Loving this documentary, fascinating behind the scenes stuff and can't wait for the album now!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS ALBUM!!!!!!
can't wait. acoustic sounds amazing!
Awesome!
Great job Dave!
I am sorry for anyone who tries to attack the Devin Townsend band. loool
Yeah, better not piss Dave off. Wait, who would do that? Dave is such a cool guy!
Dave is such a nice dude! I met him when he was performing with his band Regal last year... such a damn sweetheart.
+Draven Hazard no I'm pretty sure they're nice! But they sure can defend themselves xD I mean Dave and Ryan alone is already something haha
+This.Co Oh I wasn't going against what you were saying! But I do fully agree with your original statement. there's never anything wrong with having some literal ass-kickers in your band for added security. Hahaha
+Draven Hazard You mean "ball kickers". XD
loving this documentary. so stoked to hear the album too!
I love Dave! great episode.
Really love this series. Thanks for giving us a great insight into the team, the production and the process behind the record.
Really enjoying this series! Love DTP music, and the way you edit all the candid footage to tell a story ZImZim.
I love the style of these episodes, really well made!! It's great hearing little bits of songs too, can't wait for the new album, pre-ordered it!!
So awesome can't wait to hear this
The best episode for me. Thanks guys!
This is called family :)
You are eternal dudes!
Can't wait.
As a Kenpo practitioner I can say: Krav FTW ;). Met Dave when DTP came to Vosselaar (Belgium). He was just awesome to the fans. Inspiring even. Glad that happened.
Every time he said "one more time?" is the equivalent of me rapidly double-tapping the space bar in CuBase to re-track over the eff-up I just did..... 🤪
Loving these videos!!
I showed my nephew Dave and Zim's "sparring match". His response: "Yeah, that checks out."
Ahh, that Shining hoodie! Good stuff :D
voldemort makes some pretty chill videos
NOOOOO. I dont want it to be over already!!!!
The part around 4:40 reminds me of Hypnotize, SOAD :D
Inspiring, fellas.
Awwsome sauce 👍
Loving this. :D
Dave is awesome and that progression in "Higher" is fucking all-time.
This album can't come out soon enough.... dyin' ova heh.
Shining!
Dave fkn Young
Dave is SOOOO badass!
1:15 the sound that Daves food made when it made contact with zim... Bone chilling😂
Jesus christ Dave, that 12 string part is beautiful as fuck. Can't wait for the album, really want to know which song that is.
Love this documentary, can't wait for the upcoming episodes!(?)
You guys rock!
HIGHERRRRRR
how many poozers were killed for that coffee?
DTP only drinks intergalactic fair trade coffee. No poozers were harmed in the making of that coffee :)
HIGHER! HIGHER!
"Have a massive anus!" Holy hell, the inflection in Dev's voice. I thought I was gonna piss my pants.
Nice !
Deadout manhunt for quality here.
6:30 to 8:00 perfectly sums up my experience with recording guitar.
I'm guessing C tuning here as per usual. Love that 12 string riff.
These doco episodes are amazing. Loving the glimpse into this world. Also got 666th like \m/
Oh noooo, was that the last part? Too bad. Loved all of them. Very likeable guys :-) Also this 12-string guitar part reminded me of Synchestra. What a great album! Really looking forward to this one! :-)
"episode 3 out of 7"
*****
Oh your right. But why the credits then?
I always knew Dave was some sort of trained fighter. You always gotta look out for the quiet guys.
Holy crap! . . .
You NEVER know who some punk will mess with. I've always wanted to take Krav Maga, (took Shotokan Karate from 11 to 14 years old, which in a sense is much more tame) because the world is getting a bit more dangerous and people tend to gang up instead of fighting one on one. The 12 string piece is so beautiful :).
Just add's another dimension to DTP and its members . . . and "discipline". With respect Dave, I bow.
How much use did the Kemper see on this album?
The 1 dislike must have been someone clicking it by accident.
3:44 That's kinda cool shirt. Any information where can i buy this one? :)
I want to be in a bands like this.
He plays a right handed guitar but he's left handed? That's the first time I've seen that. Cool.
I´m going to take a tattoo of SYL, and a DTP on my legs. Does that make a toiboi?
That whole point at 8 minutes onward 👏😊
"can i have coffee too?" Fuuuuckkkk Noooooooooo! that's my reply to my girlfriend in the morning.... lol
4:39 HOW IS THAT ELECTRIC SO GAWDAMN ACOUSTICALLY LOUD
I'm pretty sure it's a hollow body.
LMAO people forget, nothing stops a street fight quite like a kick to the jewels.
How tall is Dave Young?
someone should have explained to him that there aren't normal MMA rules to KM lol. #NutShotIsLegal that was great
Lolol nice
One more time
Nolly? yeah!
very jete kune do in philosophy! basically; no rules, & aim for the balls!
What tuning is Dave in? Open C just like Devin?
Tubemeister 36!
Holy shit I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of 8:50
The song is called Higher, track 5 on the new album!
+Kwyjibo2006 how did you find the track list? I can't seem to find it
The track list was from iTunes. But the album itself leaked a few days ago!
Lol... your.not stupid, no...you're not stupid... it's ridiculous. Hah
Always remember to restomp that groin
Quantized to the grid , playing to a click that drowns out the drummer .
" Lets just call this feel 0's and 1's " said the robot .
6:50 reminds of Opeth for some reason... Anybody else too?
i mean the sound of the guitar btw, not the melody
No pompous slag, but a certain JP could have done that melody in seconds off the top of his head, but it was a'chi'eved eventually.. Well done !, but would have been quicker with some Scottish Highland air !.
I cannot wait for the new album to drop next friday, which is (ironically) when I will be seeing you gents live for the first time. On a side note Devy, the next when you ever decide to for a side project can you please recruit Led Clay pool, Maynard Kennan, and Mike Portnoy and for a Ultra Mega Super group. lol sorry that's just one man's dream band.
*form
No pompous slag, but a certain JP for example, could have done that melody in seconds off the top of his head, but it was a'chi'eved eventually.. Well done !, but would have been quicker with the experience of some Scottish Highland air near a certain burnt doon hoose !. You guys brains must be living at a million miles an hour !.
Pretty sure that certain JP regularly messes around with and writes with 12 string guitars though, so he has more experience. Not sure how often Dave decides to just pull out a 12 string and noodle around for shits and giggles.
The project is no more ! Gutted
I'm sure dev will do something else with those guys later down the road
"Dave is left handed", strange that is plays Guitar "right handed" just like Joe Perry!
It's not uncommon for left handed guitarists to play the traditional right handed way. Which you prefer depends on how you initially learned to play the instrument rather than your handedness
Exactly, when I started playing guitar for all I could've known you play with your left hand picking. Just matters how you learned it from the beginning.
Lefthanded, but he play on a righthanded guitar… logic…
Simply Symetric many do, due to the enormously larger availability of right handed guitars than left handed ones.
i simply couldn't resist the temptation: imgur.com/nesHcgu
Heh. Annoyed Dave. Haven't seen that very often. On a related note, Devin has a kick like the proverbial mule in class at UTKM. Long limbs - really pesky to fight.
Dude you can't nut kick in a spar what the hell is wrong with you!?
