The propolis candy is delicious! Thank you Pam! I use the tincture for sore throats - just mix with a bit of hot water and drink trying to coat the throat. It stings a bit initially but I find that later it is soothing and helps to heal quicker. It is amazing that you have been able to get honey and all that great propolis on your first trial with bee keeping! 🎉😀
Bees not only seal gaps and cracks in their hives using propolis but also they 'glue' the frames themselves to their hive to make it difficult for the beekeeper to remove them. Beekeepers also remove excess propolis from the tops of frames (top bars) so that less bees are hurt or crashed when closing the hive with the crown board.
@Deep Woods Dietitian - Thank you for this video, and recipe. Nicely done!! I am a bee keeper and just started collecting propolis (I'm so excited to use it!). In your video you use 10 drops of your tincture. How did you decide how many drops to use? Would more tincture be indicated for other uses? Was it a flavor issue for the lozenges? Also, in allowing the boiled product to cool, and thicken a bit, prior to adding the tincture, do you know if propolis - and consequently the tincture - is denatured by increased temps as honey is? I understand the nutrients in honey are denatured at temps around 110 -115 degrees F. Do you know if it is advised to have the boiled product cool that low before adding the tincture? Thanks so much for any thoughts on this.
Ive had personal experience with propolis. Me and my boyfriend had sores on our bodies that wouldnt heal. It started with a small cut i got from dropping a piece of chopped wood on my foot and for some reason my wounds wouldnt heal. Any wound i got after that wouldnt heal and even got bigger. My boyfriend suffered the same and we tried everything nothing would work. My boyfriends friend came by the one day with propolis his gran made and we hadnt even used half when our wounds healed up. Great stuff😮
@@chenelagerwall409 Hey, thanks very much. I remember reading someplace that honey could be applied to small cuts (as on fingers) and your story correlates with that.
A reason why an entire chapter in the Qur'an has been devoted to the bee is that Allah has enabled the honey bee to produce a substance within which there is a cure for all mankind. Honey. In Surah Al Nahl, Allah is asks people to “give thought” to the attributes of the bees & embody these traits in their lives.
@DeepWoodsDietitian a month or so as a daily supplement. I got for a canker sore and continued to use it. It is a 75% tincture with a deep amber color. Kind of tastes like jeagermeister
Since we were just experimenting I was keeping the dose low, but other commenters feel that more drops would be better. Have you ever tried making propolis candy? I think I would increase it a bit next time.
We did find that ours did lose their shape in storage. Still tasty though! But we aren't exactly expert candy makers either. Still I would think that the freezer would have helped. Might try that next time!
My understanding is the stronger the better, I’ve read recommendations for 95 percent grain alcohol. I just used what I had based on previous tincture learnings.
Agree, needs more Propolis. I use one squeeze of a dropper in my winter tea. This recipe looks great but there isn't even a drop of Propolis in each losenge.
@@oksanapavletich8116 I made it a while back but my label says I used 1 part cinnamon sticks to 4 parts of 40% alc vodka. Use a kitchen scale to measure & then wait a few weeks before straining out the cinnamon sticks. I like to use it in baking.
@Blueyopo - Regarding consuming propolis without making a tincture (or possibly a powder), as I understand it the waxes and resins within the propolis are difficult for human digestive system to digest and absorb. That is why one is encouraged to use the propolis in a processed form instead of consuming it raw. Hope this is helpful.

Propolis is amazing stuff! Do you have any experience with it?
Yes, It glues the hive cover on very well! I am going to try this. Thank You!
@@patmanhoward5681 Awesome! Let us know how it goes :)
Not yet,but I hear it has very high quality medicinal purposes, I would love to make some cough drops or elixirs for the upcoming winter months
I have contacted a bee farm called snuck farms in pleasant Grove Utah to see if they have any for sale, just waiting to hear back
Who is this? We have the same Gmail

Yep, that is how we collect our propolis, while tidying the frames.
Interesting.🌲Looks so yummy.
Not hard medicine to swallow in this case! Quite delicious.
Put drops of propolis tincture on small cuts. It sets like a skin over the cut while it cures.
That sounds like a smart way to use it. :)
Thanks
You’re welcome
Thank you so much for the video. Can we used for children to treat IBD?
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
very interesting. Loved the blooper at the end
I think you’re the first one who caught it! :)
Looking for the thermometer you used. What was the brand and where did you get it? Great video by the way
Thanks! It is a Thermoworks DOT, and they seem to be on sale at the moment :) www.thermoworks.com/dot/

Bees are amazing!
I did not know that.
And did you know that bees first appeared 130million years before the six-day "creation"?
Hello am from Kerala, a beekeeping
Hello there!
Is that dry propolis you are infusing?
Yes, it was dry until we added the alcohol.
I love the way propolis coats my gums and cracks in my teeth
How long have you been using it?
@DeepWoodsDietitian a month or so as a daily supplement. I got for a canker sore and continued to use it. It is a 75% tincture with a deep amber color. Kind of tastes like jeagermeister
😀👍
Glad you liked it :)
Hi, love your channel ❤ do you have to be a beekeeper to obtain real organic Propolis? If not do beekeepers sell it to the public?
Hi & thanks! The public can certainly purchase propolis. :)
@@DeepWoodsDietitian oh thank you that is such good news,
Is it expensive, 🫤
Do 10 drops of propolis enough for the all candy ?

do you need to keep these in freezer so they dont melt?

Can we use 70% or 96% ethanol instead od vodka? 😊
The stronger the better I believe. I’ve seen 95 percent grain alcohol recommended. I just didn’t have any.
Can you use 100% proof industrial grade alcohol?
My understanding is the stronger the better, I’ve read recommendations for 95 percent grain alcohol. I just used what I had based on previous tincture learnings.
Why so little propolis?
Our measurements were based off the research I could find. Are you experienced with using propolis? Do you have a recipe you'd recommend? :)

Are you able to share the details of the alcohol you are using please? Thanks.
I used a Saskatchewan based Vodka, Platinum Filtered 40% alc. - www.lokelvodka.com/
@@DeepWoodsDietitian thank you. Sorry, another question - how did you make cinnamon tincture?

We use spray, straight in your mouth
Do you make it yourself or purchase? And do you find it helpful?
Can we consume the propolis without making a tincture
I'm not sure how palatable it would be but I have read about it being powdered or chewed.

It makes more bees
Why why WHY.... is "research limited" on everything bees?
It is a bit frustrating, but I suppose we always have room to learn more. An exciting opportunity?
