    Grandmas in Brazil gives you propolis for EVERYTHING. From an ingrown nail to strep throat! Haahahahaha. I have warm memories of it. Something very common is to mix propolis with honey ( about 1 or 2 drops of propolis per tablespoon of honey) and take 1 tablespoon of that mix 3 or 4 times per day to treat cough, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems.

      Exactly ! It is work not for a strap throat. If you consume propolis extract systemically ( daily) you have reducing your chances to contact cancer dramatically. I stay on propolis extract for the last 17 years. But do not mess-up propolis solution with propolis extract. Extract is 20-X stronger. Unfortunately human body cannot absorb any flavonoids or flavones from raw propolis because of the temperature issue. So I do recommend propolis extract to use.

      My eldest has an ingrown toenail, how do you use it for that please? Apply it externally or take internally? The drs won’t treat it and there’s such a long waiting list for a chiropodist :( Thank you! 😊 Kate

    • @kha589
      @kha589 Рік тому +1

      @Angelchakra it won't cure the ingrow toenail itself but it is used when the toenail it is inflamed or with pus. It is applied externally. A few drops of the propolis extract directly on the affected area.

    Hi
    I don't mean to be disrespectful, but propolis tincture, if is not diluted right, its value goes to "zero" and I will explain why
    I am a third generation beekeeper that come from one of the european countries, so I inherited quite a lot of info, in this particular case about propolis; I go by grams, don't use parts or any other measure, there is a reason why they call propolis 30%, 40%, may it be less, or more %, but I never go less than 30%-35% propolis and I calculate when I dilute in 200 proof or 95-100% alchool, not votka that is 50% alchool, and that mix with less alchool % to bring it to an average of 70% alchool and dilution.
    If not extracted in 95% alchool or higher, you waste about 50-60% of your propolis, that 50% Votka is simply not strong enough to do the job;
    I sell propolis tincture in large quantities to my costumers, I educate them how to use the tincture, may it be mixed in a jar of honey or just in drops doses, one should keep in mind, propolis tincture is used for different therapies in different doses, but the discussion about propolis benefits is a good thing you got going on.
    I make sure we as a family use it, my kids seem to like it when I mix about 10cc in a pint of honey, that is what they can tolerate of the propolis taste, but they have been taking it every day for as long as I remember, it works, and american public should be educated more with regards to natural benefits of all honeybees products. Also, all the leftover sand-like stuff that remains after I strain the tincture thru a coffee filter, I remix with rubbing alchool and "paint" all my swarm traps with it, once the alchool evaporates, the smell of wax and leftover propolis entice new swarms to take ownership of that particular swarm box.
    Best regards
    Dan

    Years ago there was an article in a homeopathic magazine that said propolis has its own antibiotic properties but also increases antibiotics power by 50 -100%
    I had a horse with an injury to his hock (elbow) that antibiotics was not clearing up. On the third round I used propolis tincture under his tongue (he didn't mind at all) 3x a day and he was healed and never had anymore issues with his leg.

    Much of our medicine comes from nature, or is synthesized forms of natural chemicals. That's why honey is so vital. The bees collect all that goodness from flowers and condense it. We're making honey taffy right now actually. :o)

    I wish I had my own home so that I could raise bees. I looked it up and at least the raw, unfiltered, unpasteurized honey contains a bit of propolis, so I'll still get some benefits. Had a spoonful of the wildflower honey today. Just started compiling everything I'm learning in a notebook. I dedicated the first portion to Vitamins (going through each and explaining what they do and what dietary source they are) and Minerals (same). Then I go into the herbs and plants. I'm still on Vitamins. This part was important to me so that I can formulate my meals for optimal nutrition (I'm doing low carb due to my insulin resistance/pre-diabetes so I have to make sure I get all my nutrients -- also my doctor just did labs and everything's great!). I was feeling a bit weak and realized looked in my notebook and saw some symptoms I was experiencing were related to folate and b12 so I had a zespri sungold kiwifruit (has TONS of nutrients! including those two) and also a spoonful of honey and drank a cup of water and I feel better. Earlier for dinner I had corned beef with fresh green beans and added walnuts and creme fraiche along with a spoonful of perilla leaves that I've been soaking in organic white wine vinegar to preserve them, but also to get the nutrients. They're supposed to be really good as a medicinal as well. Which is good, because I think I've come down with a stomach bug or something. According to NCBI NLM NIH GOV "Perilla has traditionally been prescribed to treat depression-related disease, anxiety, asthma, chest stuffiness, vomiting, coughs, colds, flus, phlegm, tumors, allergies, intoxication, fever, headache, stuffy nose, constipation, abdominal pain, and indigestion, and acts as an analgesic, anti-abortive agent, and a sedative." I usually get them at the Korean market, H-Mart. If you don't know them, they're large leaves that are green and the other side is like greenish purple (kind of like Thai basil), and has a taste between mint and basil. They have LOTS of vitamins and minerals. It also goes on to say, "Until now, 271 natural molecules have been identified in perilla organs including phenolic acids, flavonoids, essential oils, triterpenes, carotenoids, phytosterols, fatty acids, tocopherols, and policosanols. In addition to solvent extracts, these individual compounds (rosmarinic acid, perillaldehyde, luteolin, apigenin, tormentic acid, and isoegomaketone) have attracted researchers’ interest for its pharmacological properties. Perilla showed various biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-allergic, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and neuroprotection effects".

    when making tincture, it is best to use alcohol (grain alcohol) that is over 180 proof( 90% or greater). the proportion of propolis to alcohol should be 1:2. Also it would take just 8-15 days until you can filter it (even using a coffee filter or tissue paper ) and bottle it in eyedropper bottles.

    Best thing in the world for tooth ache!! Also mixed with olive leaf and a touch of mint, it will knock out a sore throat in seconds!

    Honey question & side note:
    Why does my honey only stay smooth for 1-2 months?
    I would love to buy more/ bulk but it crystalizes so fast!

      No, it's used by the drop. Or it can be used as a throat spray.
