Slight correction. The DR920 does not use optics mounting plates. The Optics mount directly to the slide.
Shims are necessary
Springfield has an advanced mounting system allowing for over 30 different optics to have direct mounting.
Really enjoyed your review, solid on both, I own the Echelon and MR920L, echelon is my new fav
Thank you! 😎
I've been struggling on which one to get, thank you for this review!
Don’t mention it! Thank you for watching!
Thanks for your review. I have found that I shoot most pistols about the same. Not sure if I suck or if my skills have improved. There so many great pistols out there it’s hard to get a bad one.
Intelligent review.
Thank you for watching!
I always enjoy reading the comments guys really roasting you for your opinion…these are opinions fellaz we all have opinions we all got preferences..both firearms are great I own both. Echelon is new has quite a few quality control issues. Hopefully the next batches clear up the issues. Again it’s all preference.
Fantastic video, my brother. Clear, concise and very educational, organized and professional. I have both. But Echelon wins for me.
Thank you for watching! I just picked up the large grip module for the echelon and I LOVE the way it feels in hand! You’ll be seeing the echelon again in another versus soon!
@@Thearmchairoperator215is it true that the large module has enhanced grip texture in comparison to the OEM medium grip module?
Yes. As a matter of fact, I recently picked up the larger grip module & I love it! The texture is more aggressive but it’s not let’s say “M&P” aggressive but it’s a lot better than the standard medium grip module. Also it comes with 3 back straps just like the standard module.
@@Thearmchairoperator215 awesome thanks. I will definitely be picking up the large one after the holidays. Love my Echelon. Great review.
I just want to say you got a nice collection of firearms. I just started collecting this year.
Thank you! If you had to pick a favorite from your collection thus far, which one would you choose?
Thanks for a great review. I was a little surprised that you didn’t spend much time on the modularity feature of the Echelon. I never owned a full size duty pistol but wanted one for home and church security. I looked at several options including Glock before choosing the Echelon. I also considered this modularity business to be a bit gimmicky, until I got this gun. I have small hands and even with the small blackstrap on the medium frame, it was still a bit too big for my liking. I dropped my $65 and bought the small grip frame. Total game changer for me anyway. For those with small or very large hands, the modularity of the Echelon deserves a closer look.
Thank you for watching!
It’s funny that you mention that because after I made that video, I was thinking a lot about the modularity of some pistols & how that feature provides more options for the buyer. So In my later versus videos, I do touch on whether or not the pistol is modular.
To say that the echelon is just a baseline feature set compared to other pistols in its category is simply laughable.
Only a handful of holsters on the market for the echelon. Even less for the threaded barrel model. Hopefully this pistol holds its ground and the aftermarket provides more than it does right now.
I think that it will. Fun fact though, I tested my echelon in two my sig p320 IWB holsters & it fit perfectly in both. No slop, perfect fit.
Honestly custom holster makers is the way to go nowadays man for very reasonable price you can have it made exactly how u want it with very fast turn around.
1000 gun vs 600 gun so not bad
You know what yeah my statement was a bit premature I must admit I was hyped on the Echolon because it was new to my collection and honestly I didn't own a SS but I do also like a lot of the features of the SS so I will be adding one to my collection appreciate your comment tho
The shadow Systems DR920 is a great gun & softer shooting than some might think.
The optics thing is not close the VIS system on the echelon you can put like 30 optics different footprints right on the slide without optics plates so Springfield should have won that easy
Shadow systems doesn’t use an optic plate either and use spacers for the optics..they both have excellent optic mounting systems
Don't forget that you have 30 options for optics on the echolon no plates needed not the shadow system and the modularity of the echolon you have an option for a larger module and a smaller so that's easier for conceal carry in all you pretty much have three guns from one system the shadow is not even in the same category 100%
Doctor needs a plate and it’s another for this gun jus got it today crazy because the hex dragonfly is a Springfield product
Funny you pointed out the optic mounting first, where the shadow system first came out with that universal direct mounting system with screws that go through the entire slide, and it supports most brands of red dot.
You don't even know what you are talking about, SA fanboy.
Man you couldn’t be more wrong. SS was the first to come out with the optic mounting system. SA is only doing a copy cat. It’s a good copy but as far as optics I’d rather have the DR920. Who cares if the echelon can mount a couple more optics when those optics are trash. I own both along with a handful of other SS and SA and the shadow systems is just better as a battle pistol.
Shadow systems is based on the Glock platform after the patent expired . PSA Dagger is another off example of the expired Glock patent. Echelon is its own design , and not based on 20 yer old technology
Oh yeah cleaning and breaking down a Ss is way way easier. If SHTF Glock parts are everywhere!
The SS finish is also better, and the internals are coated and the striker is proprietary and will last longer. I think you got caught up in the hype and marketing.
SS is just an overpriced glock clone..with the same shitty glock trigger…maybe you got caught up with all the pretty bells and whistles of the SS….plus the obvious the echelon is damn near half the price of the SS
@@michaelstephens4927facts mf a dummies for glocks and def these overpriced clone might as well buy a Glock 💀 I sold my Glock 17 gen5 and got a echelon well made and thought up gun same price as a Glock mos and cheaper than doing work to a Glock comes out the box with way more useful innovations done have to do work to it 🤷🏾♂️
Iv seen MULTIPLE shadow systems rust. It’s legit an overpriced glonk clone with a fancy barrel and slide cuts
Decepticons > Autobots!
“Freedom is the right of all sentient beings!”
Also who taught you how to break down a Glock? You pull the trigger first. The LEVER WILL GET CAUGHT UP DURING DRAW. How in the heck is that better?
Im sorry, but giving a value point to Shadow is total bull*****. Same as counting accessories. Counting Echelon VIS system for over 30 optics same as Shadows for 1 is insane (which also contributes to your bad pointing system of value for money).
That said I do agree with rest of your evaluation (OK, maybe barrel is questionable to me personally) .
.... shadow has a pretty universal optic system as well
@zugi Dude you don’t know what you’re talking about. The Shadow Systems uses a wedge system that allows you to put all three full size footprints on the gun without plates.
@@kevinallies1014 OK, I still don't know what Shadow has and how many optics can be mounted but I'll gladly admit if I was wrong. So, can it mount any optics or just some proprietary optics?
@@zugion the shadow systems website they have a list of about 15 optics that are directly mounted and use a spacer system that gives pretty good rear support to the optic on top of having very deep screws. I own an MR920 and it has 3 pre-drilled holes on each side. For some of the mailbox optics like an Aimpoint Acro, you have to use a special plate, but I think that’s also true for the echelon.
PS I also just ordered the echelon and would say their pin system seems pretty innovative, but the optic is solely held by the screws and pins with gaps front and back and would say there is less information/data to tell if it will hold up over time.
What's up with gun guys seeming to not understand that full-size guns are designed for 40S&W and up? Are all of you guys sheep?
I love the 45 acp but ammo cost is a factor. You need to be able to practice a lot with both round ball and hollow points to be both confident and competent.
Said who
LOL
Tell that to CZ.
Yeah, nah, features and ergonomics go to SS. You missed the slide bevels; the optic system on Ss is better as it locks the optic in place, and the Springfield will go flying. The screws are longer on the Ss, and the extractor is shorter, so you should NEVER have to re-zero, unlike the Springfield. The GLOCK MAGS ARE MORE RELIABLE and will not rust or lips lose shape and cause feed issues. The Escholon is a joke, as you can only put one optic on a gun, and it doesn't do that well!
Glock plastic mags??
LOL! clueless comment
