So I gigged with this pair (lion and ox stomp) on Saturday and also had a golden boy drive in front and let me tell you... that trio absolutely CRUSHED our show's setlist of 80's, 90's and 2000's rock covers.
Greenday, Lifehouse, Lit, Seven Mary Three, Alice In Chains, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Poison, Blink 182, Def Leppard, Kid Rock, RATM, a bunch of country shit, etc. It just worked and the built in boost set no higher than 9 o'clock pushes it just right to still stay clean for the tight rock stuff but the golden boy was the real trick to getting this thing to punch nice and tight and clean like a high gain JCM800.
I wasn't expecting to be as impressed as I was. The OX stomp though makes a huge difference with the sound and really unlocks a lot of potential the Lion otherwise doesn't have with the built in cabs.
Also, the lion into the Waza TAE still sounds GREAT and gives me half a notion to take those two on stage with a 1x12 cab and just rip that.
I have a review of the lion on my channel and I was fully expecting it to be like every other "marshall in a box" that didn't impress me. Despite going into it with the Lion being guilty until proven innocent, I'm eating some crow on this one.
@@rob2999 I'm using the lion pedal into the ox stomp pedal. No physical amp or cab on stage.
I used the british V30 4x12 cab in the OX stomp. I've got a video on my channel showing what the Lion/OX stomp sound like in terms of how I have it setup for our shows.
I've also tested out using the lion pedal with the lion's cab sim turned off and then connecting the lion into the FX loop return of my silver jubilee and my splawn nitro and those amps connecting to my Splawn 4x12 cab and it sounds incredible that way too.
In this video the demonstrator tries to make the Marshall sound like a Mesa. 👍🏻❤️
I really like my Woodrow. This is another interesting pedal. I’d love if now UA will do a Mesa Boogie.
Boogie holds on to their stuff like it’s gold… and we all know it is. I will tell you I just got a badlander to use with my OX and it’s amazing.
From which Mesa Boogie?🤔😁
@@HenryMittnacht Mesa Boogie Mark 1, not the Rectifier series.
I think it sounds great. Just ordered it and will probably get a couple others. For those who think it sounds bad, we’re all entitled to our opinions, but you’re completely wrong. 😬😘
Would love to hear this with a "Guv'nor" pedal. Nice video.
It's all about that knob turning baby... Killer pedal. Don't know if I want this or the Bogner La Grange.
They aren't even the same type of pedal lol. This is an Amp and cab simulator, the La Grange is just an overdrive pedal.
Awesome video. your sound is quite different then other videos out there. like heavy and huge sustain without the ox. how? did you place a drive before that? regards
What’s a tactile experience?
I love the simplicity and basically one amp per box. Prevents options paralysis.
Good review
That’s what I was thinking. These UA amp sims/models are nicely focused. I’ll take quality over quantity…
can we insert some time based FX in between the Lion and The OX stomp like reverb, delay or vibrato?
I still waiting for my new pedal to be delivered :( looking forward to it. very impressed with the ruby, so I am guessing this is the one I have been waiting for to replace my amp.
Same
@@4gave1 just to let you know,, it doesn’t disappoint.
@RockG.o.d awesome...thx..I have The Ruby and it blew me away..I am really looking forward to this one.
@@4gave1 I will tell you now, remember its an emulation. not saying thats bad, its the best emulation of my plexi I have, and same for the ruby, and they come with many different varieties. I also use them both through a boss katana mostly when playing, they are a permanent addition to my pedal board, I still play on my actual plexi, and ac 30, but when I do, its now always for fun, and not also just practice or while writing music. I am confident I'd use them for recording as well. I did do a little test with them just to see if I could hear the difference, so recorded both pedal through katana as a power amp, then the individual amp through the katana speaker. both recorded mic'd up, left them, then went back to them a few weeks later, and I couldn't tell which was which, still can't tell which was which without looking at the text doc which tells me what file is what. I'm not saying there isn't a difference, because there is, and I can hear there is a difference, but at this point the difference isn't really anything I care about. I also had the helix floor, but was never happy with it, too many options, and i'm a guy who loves options. well i'm a tech guy, I just find the helix never made me happy, and I was doing more trying to get it right than just playing and enjoying it. the lion was the reason to sell my helix. Yep I just said a whole load of nothing here to praise something which I think is the best alternative to a 50 watt plexi or a 30 watt vox which I will use for gigs.
@RockG.o.d hey...I really appreciate it..I do something similar..I am running the Ruby through my Boss ir200 (using the 4 cable method) and into a headrush flat response speaker. It works really well for me and gives some flexibility....
They just need to release a full fledged modeler and be done with it. These are hosed without midi unless you have a really narrow use case.
Yes! Now they have all the models they just need to put them into in slick box with a cool user interface 😊
There’s more money doing it this way.
A full fledged modeler would be larger and more expensive. They are already available from other companies. These pedals fill a niche.
Disagree. I love that they have individual pedals in different styles. I'd buy just one and use only that. Hate having endless options. But that's just me.
@@mrcoatsworth429 that's why I got rid of my Kemper and went back to real amps. Two amps and I am covered for everything. To much knob fiddling.
In the sound richness department, do you see an improvement adding the ox stomp pedal?
How would the Lion alone be through an actual poweramp like Peavey Classic and 1X12 with Crewmback 65? Would it feel real?
I am possibly confused. Thought according to the Sweetwater video, one of the creators of the pedal said that the speaker cabs are all new along with the room sound. Maybe I am wrong. Please advise.
They are new captures yeah

@@user-nw6hq8wh8x Dear Big ROD, 💋
Maybe I missed it but is the Lion going from pedal direct to soundcard?
maybe to DI box, then to audio interface
Why only heavy crunch to highgain sounds? Many Marshall aficionados like the transparent light crunch the most, because it make s the perfect base for adding drive pedals for more gain. How does this pedal sound in low gain mode? I will need to check other videos.
Cause there's like 100 other UA-cam channels that do light crunch boomer rock tones
Earliest I've ever caught a demo let's go
what speakers do you plug that Lion box into ??
can you play this. direct through a PA system live ?
Yes
Wait, was this meant to be a tactile experience?
I do love my UA dream, but I know my UA dream doesn't take pedals as well as my iridium or my daw's amp sims. I'd be interested to see this used with a screamer, driver and fuzz. I'm not a plexi fan but I do hope they come out with an orange OR-15/supercrush version or as one comment already said a Boogie version.
Henning used it with ts9
I got a UA Dream with the intention of using it as a pedal platform. Turns out that wasn't a very good idea, as I could never find a distortion pedal that seemed to complement the pedal's general sonic character.
@@harryanderson7282 why not ? i use boss od3 and joyo king of kings, i think it works fine
The UA are meant to be run before any wet effects. My Dream and Ruby take pedals better than iridium
Same here, bro!
I have watched several UA Lion pedal videos. This video may just have some of the Lions's best tones. Great playing and I like how you focused on heavier tones.
I just uploaded a high gain sounds demo of the unit as well. I welcome any feedback. It's a long video but I went in-depth with tweaking each of the 3 amps.
wow... that thing is Bad Az!
Can you run this pedal straight into a guitar amplifier?
Yes , but the amp has already a cab going on. You can do Lion Cab + Amp Cab, but probably you only need Lion without Cab + Amp Cab.
I didn’t know that Bert Kreischer had a guitar channel! That’s awesome!
Weird that he puts a shirt on and isnt squeaking like a tea kettle here. And he looks sober. Crazy
Hard sell at 400$ tbh, but it sounds great
I use two cabs, always! Simulators sucks!
“Thusly” new word
Just time travel back to September 1982 and push my friend Pete J out of the way.... He bought a 1968 Plexi Full Stack from our High School Geography teacher for $300 Canadian. Problem solved.
Lol I would hope I can “get away with just the Lion” at over $400, certainly not blowing me away I would have expected better sounds out of the box from UA
agree with you. tons of rave reviews, but I find it quite boxy and generic sounding. not "amazing" by any means
It’s 349 now.
It’s freaking AWESOME if you own it and actually work with it. Especially with the OX Stomp. All I can say is that it blows away any other Marshall modeler I’ve ever heard or used. But like an amp, you spend time dialing it in. Could not disagree more…
I don't know if it was just the settings used for this demo, but I thought the pedal sounded awfully muffled and congested. Also, there seems to be a certain fizziness in the top end that doesn't sound like it's eq'able out.
Pretty disappointing sounding all around.
That Pedal Show just did a new vid with Jack the former demo guy from Peach Guitars. They did some Lion tones at the end of the vid that were pretty damn good and I say that as an absolute tube amp cork sniffer.
This sounds way too polite to be a plexi. It’s a good modern high gain tone, but it’s missing that spiky upper midrange sound that is so key to the plexi sound in so much classic rock. Or maybe that’s just the way you had it set up. I don’t know.
Having had a meaningful amount of experience with the ox box, I think it has a lot to do with the cab selection and setup.

Less talky. More tonez.
these pedals are simply unsexy, good but just not brutal. I love tubes 😊
I really wanted to like this, but it sounds kinda lifeless to me. I loved the dream 65, so who knows…maybe I’m wrong 🤷♂️
couldn't agree more
Only $400? I can see these flying off the shelves. NOT! Just sayin
The friedman IR-x did it better. With tubes
@@Ottophil don't care about tubes. They're gimmicks and don't add anything.
Didnt sound good to me....albeit this is on my little ass phone.....
-________-
The Friedman IR-X sounds better.
Yes cuz it’s an actual tube preamp
In terms of value and flexibility, Friedman (unusually) hit that one out of the park. I could easily have seen that thing being $1000‐1200.
Only 100.00 more than this, and the tones are so much better.
@@jjschulz3472 yep! I’m probably gonna get one!
I have really enjoyed mine.
Terrible. Seems to be the consensus here. And the consensus is correct. This is def by UA aka Ultra Ass.
