What are the names of some of the books in the background. I'm always looking for something new to read.
History books. Top to bottom: the man who never died (Joe Hill) - Joe Hill: the making of a working class revolutionary - the incomplete true authentic and wonderful history of May Day - streets railroads and the great strike of 1877 - coxey's army - wobbly - America on strike - in the floating army --- mostly books I've been reading to learn about American hobo history. My favorite autobiography is Mother Jones - it reads like an action novel.
@@SpoonLady Thank you. I'll add them to my summer reading list. My dad and I are history buffs.
@@SpoonLady May Day is a good thing to know about, indeed 💚🖤💙
@@SpoonLady :) my Gran lived in New Orleans, born there, died there, from 1895 to 1979; She lived very close to the train track and station; she would let "hobo's" or - men looking for work, riding the rails, sleep in her front room of her shot gun house. I heard she did this all the time and never had a problem. She used to tell me about the 'rag man' pulling a cart and selling rags, or the veggie man selling turnips. I don't know how she and my Grandad lived thru the Spanish flu, but they did :/ hard times. And pple think now is hard. They have no idea... God Bless You!! and thank you for your time to make this video :) xoxo
Been missing you and your music.♥️
I agree with you 110%. As a child of the 1970s I’ve had to revert to the way things were before the internet. I’ve learned to unplug and go “offline” on a regular basis. This life that media has created for us isn’t healthy.
🎯💯👍
💯 👍
Exactly. I was born in 66 and I do exactly the same thing.
I found my planner the other day….I miss writing down stuff.
Amen
Sewing, quilting, baking, talking to real people, in person....great skills that always need practice! hugs to you!
Abby, it's not the spoons that attract people. It's YOU! You have charisma. You are a poet, a storyteller par excellent and a philosopher. And I absolutely love the way you dress...your own quirky and charming style. I guess I just love you. BTW, I'm an 85 yr old woman who would dress like you if I wasn't so fat!
What a lovely comment, joeyhoneyjordan. And get that dress on, girl! Never too late or too big to sport a petticoat, even if we have to let the waist out. 🙂
Thanks for saying this. I love her outfits. the underskirt or bloomers (the ruffle ones) with your skirt looks fabulous. And I love that you wore boots with it. Keep wearing what you like. Good for you baking and growing food. Too many people have gotten lazy and buy everything already made. Homemade is great. Did you sew the overalls made with it looks like a small stripe material. Thanks for being you.
This is the most refreshing social media post I’ve seen in a long time. Baking bread, gardening, developing and nurturing our real lives in this strange world we live in today is the most important thing we can do. You’re pretty damn cool I gotta say, and I 100% agree. 🙏🏼🥰🥰🥰
👍👊🙏❤️🦅🇺🇸
It’s good to see you Abby.
You nailed it! Humans are not supposed to have millions of “friends” like social media suggests. We have not evolved socially to have our thoughts and opinions heard around the globe with a click of a button. This is making society lose those close bonds with the people around you and we are seeing the side effects of this social experiment. I just always use the mantra “Twitter is not real life.” when things get so crazy my blood pressure spikes.
Glad to see you coming back with more videos! Love your music and you seem like a wonderful person. Hang in there! The craziness of the world will subside when common sense regains traction.
Very well said
We are by nature transient hunter gatherers like our ancestors were. Why shouldn’t our friendships be the same, transient friends that come and go, people we interact with when the timing is right.💞🇬🇧
Very true advice. We're lost connection with people and instead exchange it for rumors, lies and fake news, people and junk. I miss the days of one on on and family get togethers. Instead we have a world of fakeness and being received. You're a beautiful woman inside and out. Beautiful advice and very true. Put the phones down and live❤ God bless you and your journey 🥄🥄🥄🥄🥄
@@Mamaw5 Very well said
May we all be as authentic and non-judging as Abby. What a different world it would be. ❤❤❤❤
You are one smart cookie, and one of our true national treasures, Abby! So happy you are still here & doing well.☺️
Some people come for the music. I come for the stories and Abby’s precious wisdom. ❤
You’re such a treasure, Abby. Thank you for checking in. ❤️
Found your channel yesterday and you’re the only influencer who is a true genius and realizes that social media can be toxic and knows when to back off and/or not dive in head first. Brilliant. You have a life outside of a computer with unknown strangers. Eloquently spoken. Will follow and support whenever you feel like posting. Glad you are teaching us about healthy boundaries too. How about some gardening tips someday? Best wishes
You are indeed an inspiration to everyone Abby. The music just flows through you as life itself does.
I love that you’re taking time for yourself and creating and enjoying your home.
The struggle is real when you live an authentic life. ❤️
Good post.
I quit social media AND mainstream media a while ago; one of the best decisions I've in my life. 💓✨️☮️
I agree. Social media isnt where its at. Its the one on one with family, and getting involved in life, and caring for eachother. It is daunting to think of all thats going on in social media. Like a fantasy world. Everyone trying to live up to everyone else. It can be helpful, but i miss the world before social media.
Your authenticity resonates. 😊
Right.👊🙏❤️🦅🇺🇸
Nationally!!! 😎👍
I hope they can lay off the bully crap. We don't want it. We need a cool club.
If only more people saw life for what it is and lived a real life outside of social media.
I saw you play spoons and thought it was brilliant. Then, just today, I see this video. I had no idea you had a channel. Thank you for sharing your life with total strangers. You are a blessing.
Keep on doing what you wanna do. You have mad spoon skills and don't let the snarky people get to you. They're everywhere. You're a cheerful ray of sunshine and that's what we all need.
Your accurate. We have friends, confidants, fellow employees, etc etc. My Dad told me one time...At the end of your life...if you've made five...you e lived a good life.
Oh my, you make me remember a conversation I had with my dad when I was a young teen, me saying to him I had tons of friends, and he telling me "look... if you can count your good friends with all the fingers on one hand.. you're a lucky person.." miss you dad.....
Dad was so right. Mine said if ur lucky you will have one. So true!! Words of wisdom from our parents/ grand parents. All their past saying are so true. I miss the good old days. They taught us well. I pass it one to all the younger generations, hopefully it will stick with them. Your never alone, God is with you 24/7 we don’t need anyone but him to see us through. Love and prayers to you and all who reads this. ❤️💯🙏🏻
According to the science, the maximum number of people for any village, that people are happiest to live in, is about a hundred people. That's the maximum for a good Tribe.
What science?
@@CSAccetura I read it years ago. I'd assume it was deduced from studies of tribes combined with psychological findings. As far as I remember around a hundred is the maximum number that groups can cope with before becoming stressed in various ways. I daresay if you look it up you can find the studies.
@@CSAccetura Just looked it up. Got it wrong, it's 150 people. Look up Dunbar's number.
@@jeffreybarton1297 will do.
Eloquently said. Glad you're taking care of yourself and your community.
I have had 4 foot surgeries in 10 months time. I have spent my share on social media, youtube videos, TV reading, knitting and trying to recuperate. I read a first draft book for a writer and edited this along with offering her some of my photos to insert. In between each foot surgery, I was planting and getting things done! Now I have garlic, potatoes, herbs and more out back in pots. I knit Christmas gifts and more socks for my poor feet. I am still trying to get to walking more then around my home etc...I am seeing my Dr tomorrow for X rays and find out how much longer this pain will last. Your words resonate with me! Once I am walking more, I will be back to photography, hiking, crafting, boating and more! By summers end, I want to do my canning and dehydrating.
Like Neil Peart wrote in "Limelight" : "I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend."
I depend on Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, but I'm perfectly happy with being an introvert with PTSD.
Good to see this - keep shining your lovely light 😊
This is the best example of a real human. This woman is living her life, without all the social media. Kudos to Abby!!
Such words of wisdom Dear Abby! Something we all need to hear from time to time. Life is for living, not scrolling.
Just enjoy your life! ❤️
Talking of beautiful people... there ya are 🙂
Well spoken! We love you in Pittsburgh, PA! Keep doing your thing!
I agree with every single word !!!!! I don't even have social media I get overwhelmed with youtube 😅❤. Hugs . Don't change ever.
You bring joy to many you don't know!" Sounds fabulous!"
You are such an inspiration. 💖 Thank you!
You were teaching the kids spoons just across the road from my camp. My brother in law and I had been discussing you the night before. He had headed back to his home state 10 mins before I saw you. My dad and I stood there and watched you for awhile. You are a beautiful soul!
Abby, I have been watching your videos for quite some time. I was born and raised in Ponca City Ok so I’m familiar with Winfield and the festival. I have lived the last 20 years in Spokane Missouri halfway between Springfield and Branson. I appreciate what you are saying about social media. I am 69 and remember when we were front porch people visiting with neighbors. I work 2 days a week wrangling horses and leading tourist for Ozark Mountain Trail Rides on the Shepherd of the Hills property. The interaction with all ages from even Canada and sometimes people from overseas is what keeps my sanity. I tend to be a storyteller and my boss says she has only heard the same story twice in five years. I can sure appreciate your experiences and non judgmental attitude. If you ever wander up this way I would like to meet you.
I am so grateful that I discovered you today. I needed something calming and beautiful and you bring that little sparkle that my world needed. Thank you.
You’re an amazing woman with very refreshing down to earth wisdom. Looking forward to whatever creative endeavors you undertake and choose to share with us. Most important ~take care of the one and only Abby! :)
Abby! 150% true! And this is your life! It's not social media that should rule it, you alone decide everything. No matter what happened on social media, the real world will always be better.
I agree with you 100%! Social media gives the government an avenue to spread fear faster than anything we’ve ever experienced. It gives everyone a voice no matter how reliable or honest they are. Fear is a liar! It controls otherwise sensible people to panic and react in ways that are harmful to themselves as well as others. So yeah, I’m with you on social media. It’s nice to keep in touch with people we know and loved ones, but it will consume your time if not kept in check. Good to see you sweet gal! 🥰
With everything that's going on in the world, it was just concerning to not see you all of a sudden. But that being said, you didn't owe anyone an explanation, I've been known to drop off of social media with no explanation myself. We are so happy to see your face again, Abby xo. Have an excellent Summer 💛
I'm so happy to hear that you are living real life! A life that has lasting benefits and good memories. You're a wonderful example to all of your followers! Keep up the good work of baking, reading, building and growing. You have inspired me!
❤ you are my kind of person
I too am doing some work on my home - I have filled an unused swimming pool (dangerous hole in ground) with dirt and now I have a beautiful garden with flowers, berries and veggies. There's also a hammock in the shade where I read and write and rest.
And I am limiting my time with the social media as I find it to be a time bandit with little reward. 🎶
Love your music, your outlook, and your truthfulness. you take care, Celeste
Dear Abby, you are absolutely right! this happens everywhere. moving away from real life, which brings real pleasure and fruits, towards illusion, the matrix. and they accept this chatter because of weakness of spirit, fears, apathy and reluctance to leave their comfort zone. my city is one of the most environmentally friendly, it occupied one of the first places in the world in terms of the amount of greenery. my friends don’t even go a kilometer away to beautiful forests full of springs, snowdrops and ancient trees. and complain about life)I understand that the responsibility for the future lies with me, including my ability to help others see the real world, full of miracles and beauty. greetings from sunny and windy Stavropol, in the Caucasus. good health and prosperity.
The older I get, the smaller my friend list becomes. I like my little world now with my family and friends that I actually like being around. I’m happier now than I’ve ever been. Love baking for loved ones and helping out where I’m needed. I don’t do Facebook anymore. What a waste of time. UA-cam is my winding down time in the evening when I finally sit down. Movies are crap now so I don’t watch much TV. I listen to music and channels like yours. Thanks for being a breath of fresh air… God bless you ❤
This was actually so refreshing for me to hear your voice say these very words. You are such a breath of fresh air. Your genuine authenticity as a human makes me feel better about the world!!!
Thanks for putting your wisdom in this video. ❤
Its OK to come up for air
I just discovered you today and…wow! You and your musical companion are simply awe inspiring. I can’t remember enjoying watching spontaneous musical mirth like you guys in decades. I felt like a kid again. I’m 55 and my name is Sean and you are beautiful.
Bless your heart, you hit the nail on the head!!! As long as you just pop in on occasions and let us all know that you’re doing good, thats all I need! You are 100% correct, at least in my eyes. Everyone needs time to and for themselves, and that’s ok. Some people enjoy the “social media” vibe and that’s all good too, but don’t forget to occasionally stop, unplug and find yourself and enjoy life!! Like you, I too have hundreds of things that I enjoy doing, and things that I want to tackle/try my hand at, before I meet my maker but if you’ve got your nose stuck in a phone, computer, etc…life will pass you by. That’s sad. Hell, I think I’ll get off of here and go practice my spoons! Lol (I really am learning), or learn a little on my harmonica. Write a children’s book, or go color…..either way, you go bake that bread and enjoy life!! Yours seems very exciting, and how sad would it be, to wake up one day with very little time left, and realize that so many of the things that you wanted out of life, your hopes, dreams and plans, are no longer attainable. Too late. Just because you wasted so much of your life, on-line vs. real time! Best wishes to you Spoon Lady, I’d love to bump into you one day!!
Abby we love you. You could hire someone to do your social media just to get your work out there and get more income coming in. You are dearly loved, more than you know. You don't have to engage with everyone but you can get your voice out there.
Keep being the blessing!
Truer words have never been spoken. My husband and I gave up television 18 months ago and have never looked back. We read. We go to lectures at our local university. We attend concerts. I sew. We cook together. He has found woodworking and now wants to make musical instruments; a dulcimer perhaps? I love bread making. It is so basic and makes our home smell wonderful. We visit with our neighbors. Social Media is a double edge sword, no doubt, but I have so many friends whose livelihoods depend upon it and I want to support them. Does it validate their existence? I don’t think so. They are people who are strong in their convictions, but want to reach as many people as possible to share their gifts. I wish that was all social media was used for but we all know it is not. We have to be very careful and consider each source from which information comes to us through social media. I was born in 1950 and lived in “blissville” until November 22, 1963, when our world changed forever. I love meeting people, especially older people (I think I may be one of them now!) and I talk to strangers wherever I go. I learn so much from them.I find that kindness and empathy go a long way in this world. I sleep well at night knowing I did my best that day. ❤
That is Soo true Abby! Im 27 and have personally never had a Facebook account or any other form of social media (despite UA-cam) and I still live a happy life. I personally would rather get to know a person face to face and actually conversate with them before calling them a "friend"..it's more of a real, and fulfilling relationship/friendship in my opinion. I also agree that life is way more happier and fulfilling by being productive, going out and enjoying it, talking to friends and loved ones, cooking, building or doing constructive things.. also, it is kinda unrealistic for a person to find the time to have 1,000s of friends in their lives. I have nothing against people who are on social media or anything, like you said there are a lot of good people on social media too
LOVE YOU ABBY!!! YOU SAVED MY LIFE
I don't know about you, but I am my happiest when I am by myself!
Thank you for this … I needed this today!!!!
SO sensible! Thank you. Needed to hear that.
Absolutely!!!❤❤❤❤
Glad you're ok Abby. You've been missed ❤
You are valid My Mom used to feed some of the hobo's that came by we had a X marked on our steps by the tracks so they knew it was a safe place to get food . We were aloud to talk to them as long a mom was around they played the best music and had the best stories . I started hopping trains at around 10 years old would go for a day and come back. In the summer would go for a few weeks travel everywhere we could.nice to see you're doing good.
Glad you are on and making vids.
We love you, Abby. Thanks for keeping it real.
The best thing people can do for body, mind and soul is close up all devices including tv and connect back into living life, even if it's laying outside reading a book if your energy is low. Good to see you Abby
You are absolutely right! In-person communication is essential for healthy mental well-being, and we should never try to replace it with a virtual existence. Supplement, perhaps, but never replace.
I’m happy to see you well and doing what feels good to you! You are right about so many things that you said…that why we all miss you and you content. It’s wholesome, knowledgeable, and community! You are love and acceptance. You really are everything that’s missing in this new world-it’s a lot to carry. You make me home sick for something I didn’t even know existed. Thank you for taking time for yourself!
How articulately spoken and refreshing. Can’t wait to hear more about the real story behind your life. I love watching you play the spoons too. Glad you’re enjoying doing what makes you happy-living your life your way. Go girl❣️
Glad to see you back. Id enjoy any content you decide to share. I love history. Glad to know youre happy and healthy.

God Bless you and yours.
Thank you Abby!!! ❤️
Stay simple! It makes life worth living.
i would love to hear something about your favourite female hobos and why you like them so much! have a good one, abby
Yes! I loved the first videos I saw of your spoon playing with a great big smile, loving spirit shining with the music made without all the big technology. Hearing you speak about life is another heart opening pleasure!
I'm totes down for female hobos too!! How interesting!
This is exactly what I've been feeling lately, the need to dial down the social media, cellphone time etc. I started gardening a couple yrs ago which I love to do and I really want to start reading books again, I have so many and they just sit there on the shelf year after year. I wonder sometimes what did I do with my time before facebook, cellphones and social media ever existed, it was spending time with family, cooking healthy meals with real food instead of all this ultra processed junk the stores are filled with today, spending time in person with Friends and family instead of using messenger and texting. I'm really glad I grew up before all this technology, not that its all bad we are in 2023 after all but sometimes it's overwhelming our minds and we all need to take a break, so I get it you do whats best for you 😊 I will be doing the same.
I can’t wait for your historical videos and potential podcast! You truly have one of the most intriguing, calming, beautiful voices - I could listen to you talk about paint drying and be happy.
Hi Abby! Glad you are doing a lot of things. It's ok you are not on social media. It is understandable. love to see ya. You are exactly right.
Abby, I’m a long time subscriber. You have found a great balance between your music, public life and home… I’m happy for you. When I get overwhelmed with the crazy out there, listening to some good music accompanied by the spoon lady always brings me home.
You hit the nail on the head. People are meant to come & go. Only a handful are meant to stay!!
Omg Abby I am in LOVE with your music, your collabs, your personality, all of it!!!! Would love to see more videos of you talking about your life, things you’ve been through - ‘story times’ if you will!!! You are such a bright shining light it the world, and most certainly here on UA-cam!!!!! ❤
So good to see you again. The need to simplify your life is ours, I don’t follow the crowd. Love working in the garden, watching my hard work did not go in vain. Now that I’m retired each day is like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Take care Abby!
You have such a calming voice and are very wise. I agree with you!
She not only is extremely talented! But also is a beautiful, woman and person! Much love!
I think you are right, Abby. We were designed for in-person conversations, families, and a few of our surrounding humans... and animals. I also think we were not designed to have a ton of stuff, and that is why we find it hard to wrangle tons of stuff. If I weren't alone, honestly, I don't think electronics would be so important to me. Enjoy your life. I will watch and enjoy what you post. Love you.
You have brought me so much joy! Having watched you playing music with your spoons, God bless you
You are a beautiful woman and don’t let anyone tell you different. I have great respect for your wisdom, humility and transparency. I love your music. I look forward to your new ventures.
Thanks for this! I just came across your channel today and the title for this one really spoke to me. So appreciate and connect with everything you shared. Looking forward to checking more of your videos out.
🥰 thank you for being you!
Abby, you are amazing! I have missed your beautiful person but respect your right to a break!❤
You are such a beautiful human being and I'm so happy you exist!!! Looking forward to all the goodness you will bring into the social medias! I homeschool my kids and will most certainly include your interesting history topics into our lessons. Thanks for this video!!
Screw social media, I realize I’m on it, but there’s a lot of evidence that it’s not good for our heads. Really really not good for children’s heads. I think you’re wonderful and I agree with what you’ve expressed as far as why you’re not posting. I’m happy you’re enjoying a more settled existence. Take care, best wishes. ❤
I totally agree with all your points! Glad you're doing well! And I wanted to ask if you could do a tutorial on playing spoons that'd be great because I would love to learn! Regardless of whether or not that happens, I wish you the best!
Oh yes. I would like a Tutorial too….
I vaguely remember seeing one at some time by her. Maybe search her videos. I think there is one out there.
Yes, I just checked. She has "how to play spoons" videos 1-8
Yes ✨ I learned to play spoons from Abby's videos 🌈❣️🌸 I'm not a patch on her! 😅 But enjoy playing along with friends sometimes on them 🥄😊🎶 Thanks Abby 💕 You're a beam of light & authenticity lass ✨✌️😉🌷
Abby, no need to explain that you are living a real life! You tube, Facebook etc consumes your soul if you let it! There is more important things to do and that's living and doing what you love! Be happy, grow, create & enjoy your hobbies. That is what gives you happiness and there's no place like home!❤
Good luck spoon lady ✌🙏💚
Well said! And lovely seeing you!
So good to hear from you. I often wonder what a life you've led, and smile knowing how much your talent has endeared you to so many. I Prayed so hard for you to be safe and happy, after discovering your videos during the covid lock down. It's a relief to know you're happy, thriving, and still being a creative force in the world, while doing the really important stuff like baking, and living in peace♡ Shine on Abby!
Sage words here. If people spent half as much time engaging in their real lives as they do engaging on social media, they would be much happier and healthier for it. I'm so happy to hear you're spending your time doing what you enjoy and look forward to hearing about it when you have the time to share with us. Take beautiful care 🥄💖
Hi Abby, so nice to see you back. The best is yet to come.
I agree with you 100%. Social Media shouldn’t exist. It’s ruined a lot of people’s lives.
this is so accurate and such a healthy outlook….you are spot on!!
