@VincentEllis-John8-12 I don’t see it that way. For example, I have no idea who you are, and you have no idea who I am. I don’t follow or talk to anybody on UA-cam that I know in real life. Me too. Meta products have become chaos, and you’re a sucker to give it attention, where suggestions and irrelevant ads and opinions of friends and strangers deserve your short time on earth. It made sense when it was clean with occasional ad to keep it free and that was ok. I hope it implodes on itself one day. I too just have UA-cam and I pay for it so it’s clean with no ads and sensational quality.
I'm 17, all of my friends use social to communicate and such. I had a "adhd" diagnosis and medication and I decided to cut out social media. My focus is back, I enjoy life to the max, I enjoy the little things, I feel so much more connected with people and so much more invested in every in person conversation I have. And my relationships have greatly improved, changed my life
Deleted all my social media a few months ago. I found it a bit strange for the first month worried that I was missing stuff. I kept at it and realised I was missing absolutely nothing. I came to the conclusion that I was plagued with ads and it was making me miserable with news etc. my mindset is a lot more focused and I’ve been utilising the scrolling time with more regular exercise and started reading books. Yeah, I’m using UA-cam but that’s mostly for learning interesting discussions and exercise plans. I’m wishing anyone who’s considering on escaping social means and I wish you a more fulfilling life.
Me too! SinceJan 3rd I don’t have social media. Still using UA-cam to learn and watch videos that add me some real knowledge - instead of thinkg someone’s else life is content. There are some weeks I don’t even think there is social media out there. I take some pictures (for example, diy projects) and when I meet friends, I show them according to our conversation. Best thing I ever did!
You dont need to see what other people are doing in their lives and build your own life according to trends. This is one of the worst things that has ever happened to humanity. Take care of your own life and your family.
I’ve been off instagram for 6 months now and it’s been the best decision ever! Thought about reactivating, but after this video I’ll continue to stay off it. Thanks bro!
I’m three months with zero social media and I’ve honestly never felt more normal. I’m not sharing my life with hundreds of followers (most of whom I’ve never met) and thinking they actually care what I post and vice versa. My life is my life now. I always found it odd when people would start a convo with “saw you went to ___” etc which basically removes the entire foundation of very basic natural communication. I enjoy the mystery it brings as well. No one knows about my life unless they ask and if they ask, they care. Social media in my opinion has far more negatives than positives and hopefully more and more people go back to living like a normal person.
@@sundaramchaurasia Do it! You won’t regret it. You get over the FOMO quick. Start with deleting the apps, do browser only for a bit to limit instant access. Deactivate for a bit after to gauge if you if you are missing someone’s contact info or something. Then when ready, fully delete it. Make sure you have something to run towards vs running away from social media for it to stick, for example take up an evening walk with a goal of 1-2 miles. Listen to a podcast or music, or just silence and trying to look around and cultivate gratitude. I now walk every evening 1-2 miles, anywhere from 20-40 minutes and it does WONDERS for my mental health and clarity. Helps anxiety and to be able to sleep too. Just try to find a healthier habit / hobby that you have any interest at all / can tolerate and try to stick with it when you get bored.
I certainly feel the friction when trying to go back to social media. I quit around 6 months ago and everytime I tried logging back in, I feel nauseating and just not right looking at all the junk people post. It made me realize I was missing nothing out of social media user. Now I have no desire or tempt to go back!
I read his book Deep Work in my last year of undergraduate 2019-2020. I decided not to use my phone for the next two years. Within 1.5 years after completing my postgraduate, I qualified for the post of PGT in a government school. Thank you Cal Newport.
You know you have a problem when you notify everyone or close friends that you’re leaving social media. It’s like you’re asking permission to an audience that doesn’t really exist. And seeking acceptance that you’re gonna live a normal life without having to know what everyone is up to. It’s gonna be a challenge but if I can let go of Facebook. I can definitely leave everything else.
Do people realize that UA-cam is also a form of social media? This is like the final boss of social media… because it promises good things, even learning things, but that is still a distraction.
Hi Dr huberman. Because of your videos on alcoholism and two other UA-camrs Sober Leon and Jaye from getting sober... Again I am now almost 7 months sober. About 3 weeks ago I deactivated my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I did however keep my UA-cam channel and I'm concentrating on making content for that. I have more time now not being on Facebook Instagram and Twitter. I don't think people realize how much time they spend on Facebook, Twatter or Instacrap and I'm not sure when I'll reactivate them.
n0th4ckinq I still haven't restarted those accounts, I don't think I will be anytime soon. In my opinion TIK-Tok is the worst Twitter & Instagram comes in as the second place.

I had tried to delete all my social media for years. I knew it was toxic to my mental health, but it was addictive. I quit all social media 2 years ago, and I haven't been happier or healthier in my entire life.
I shut down Facebook and Instagram a year ago. I don't want either back. I don't miss it. I'm reading my Bible. My family relationships are so much better! My home is decluttered and clean. My work productivity is at an all time high. I only have UA-cam for the purpose of self improvement and learning. I'm not on my phone as much. It's honestly beautiful and simplistic.
I stopped using social media a month or so ago and found it a positive experience and don’t miss it. I didn’t use it often before but found I was wasting time on social media just to fill a procrastination void.
For me, it has almost been 3 years without socials. As for UA-cam, I have uninstalled it on my cellphone. I use it on my iPad exclusively for my studies and other useful stuff. I strictly keep the algorithm in check. Best thing to do honestly. Please do it as soon as possible.
I only had to remember how much richer was life was before social media to quit. The gaping hole of loneliness and superficiality in communicating on most platforms disappeared immediately and I looked up to see how much color there was around me. YT is my only participation. I watch tutorials on how to play musical instruments, and then I’m off to work on it as an analog being, outdoors whenever possible. I don’t live inside the digital box anymore.
I saw this at the perfect time man. I’ve been scrolling more than I should lately and it’s making me feel mentally fatigued. Literally clicked and UA-cam and thought in my head before it loaded I’m gonna watch the first video that pops up I hope it applies to my situation right now. God bless.
I deleted ALL my social media and as a direct result I don't hear from ANYBODY. Not past co-workers, not family, not ANY of the "friends" I knew for decades. I'm not sorry I did it, but after you have an illness and are laid up a few months, you sure start to look back at your life and wonder if you wasted all of it around people that didn't even like or give a shit about you.
Thing is, there are ways social media is enriching. For instance, my musician friends aren't going to send out texts to every person about a show they have coming up. They make an announcement on social media. 90% of the time social media is a massive waste of attention, but the other 10% actually gets me involved in people's lives as it was originally intended and I would miss out on that.
Social media isn’t 100% bad but you must learn how to not spend too much time on it which most people won’t try to learn. It’s fun to hear about some friends and family here and there as well as some social events
I’m 38,I deleted Facebook about five years ago. People think I am antisocial and a hermit because I don’t have social media. I am definitely living in the wrong generation I guess. I am way happier without seeing pictures of kids on their first day of school and the random engagement photos.
Ive found that I consume those types of photos in a more meaningful way-- if someone sends me a picture, I look at it. I appreciate it. I engage with the sender around it & share their joy.
Social media is a failing experiment. I still believe in content creation on UA-cam in longer formats such as podcasts. UA-cam has been the greatest thing for sharing information.
It's being prudent and knowing when to use social media and when not to. There is peace in not having to feed your fixation. I could put down all of it to be honest, but people need to find a happy medium. I have time to nurture skills and hobbies but love catching up with family and friends too. Let's face it aren't podcasts a form of Social Media too, just asking. Another good one.
I haven't deleted my social media, because I use it for my music promotion & networking. But drastically cutting down on it, setting limits, deleting it off my phone has made me so much more peaceful. Cal's book Deep Work was one of the sparks that made me take measures more.
I’ve been clean from social media for a year and three months because of an old video from Dr. H. My screen time is three hours or less every day. Emails use the majority of that time. I’ll never return. Truth be told, influencers need to be canceled. Most are influencing people to do ridiculous things, or things they really don’t need to do.
Best decision for me as well. It was really hard with Facebook as I was using it to be enmeshed to some family members but once I let them go I was free.
My husband and I quit social media as teenagers back in 2013. I am so glad we did. I recognized it wasn't serving me and wanted authentic relationships only. I truly do not want that junk back in my life and feel grief for those it has sucked in for far too long. For me, it felt like being chained to the opinions of others. I was extra anxious and self conscious (and self focused!). Without it, I am free to really live (without others watching). He is right - you need to have meaningful plans set up when you decide to quit. It can be easy to use television (or UA-cam) excessively as an alternative time suck. The roots of our problems don't go away when social media is gone. Go find your passions and love your family and community well. This is your only life - go live! :) you can do this.
I will never quit social media. I don't scroll mindlessly, I don't share posts. But yeah, most of the cooking i know, I learned from Instagram. I baked a cake watching a short reel. I learned what things I should carry to go for a trek. Everything I know now, I learned from social media. And all the bias and negative perspective I had was from people around me. I was so negative that I only attracted my kind of people. lol! Thousands of Engineers are working hard so that you are glued to your mobile screen, you need to up your game and go against those brains. Keep Swimming!
Yes! Replacing socials with something else is so helpful. Reading helped me. I didn’t know I was a reader until I got a “dumb phone” a few years back. Now I’m an insatiable reader. I just deactivated fb and am about to do instagram. I’m done. I want to live my life in real time. Loved this
I quit social media for the most part with the exception of LinkedIn and Snapchat. The former I kept for business, career, and networking purposes; the latter I kept for dating and hookup purposes. (I don’t consider UA-cam social media because I don’t maintain a personal channel that reveals a lot of daily stuff about my personal existence.) Have to say, getting off social media has helped me hone my focus on my goals, fortified my mental health, improved my situational awareness, and sharpened my (already “okay”) ability to connect with people in the daily flow. I also added a variety of teas and “quiet time” to my daily routine as well. Life moves fast enough already.
I'm not on any Social Media since 2017. When I studied about how Social Invalidation Feedback Loop makes us addict and how psychologically does it affect us by playing with our Brain chemistry

I wonder how this would work for artists who rely on social media heavily to gain awareness of their work, in our day and age. Business cards? Personal website? Facebook? Email? PO Box? Phone number on the bathroom wall at the local tavern? /s but seriously
If that's the purpose of socmed use, then the priority is creation over consumption. It's a vicious trap though because you might find yourself endlessly scrolling, but it's possible to just schedule socmed instead of completely deleting it.
What kind of artists? If it's real tangible artwork Etsy is a pretty easy way to sell your work. If it's photography I can see having an Instagram account you only use for marketing, but how many real photographs are being sold that way?
For musicians UA-cam is still pretty good for that along with other apps people use like Spotify. For letting people know about shows you can still have a page, but not a personal page.
I deleted social media as part of fomo , kinda self isolation, but honestly i felt so good after doing it , now i feel like eventho it was an escapism it protected my brain a lot
UA-cam is my only source of Social Media and I feel blessed. I hear my friends talk about the drama or see people on their phones scrolling (chasing the dragon) and i think to myself I’m glad I’ve minimized that habit. I’m not perfect but you’re life will be better with out the big three
I'd love to delete it all and be done for good. I'm a musician and I run my own busisness. I'm currently trying to set boundries with social media to where I only use it to promote myself and share music. That looks like no doom scrolling EVER, no apps on my phone, only interating with it on my computer, and having a set time (maybe once a week) that I post/check notifications. For folks that use it for a specfic reason... it can be a great tool IF you can successfully set boundries and have self control. The doom scrolling ain't helping anyone. Its literally designed to be addictive AF and absord all of your time. Good luck everyone!!
Bringing back the computer with a landline sounds like a solution. It's very difficult to stop using these apps but once you do I find it easy. I just keep coming back to it eventually
I'm a rarity!! I'm a 48 yr old female who can't stand this future we've created!! I have no social media besides watching UA-cam. I noticed right away that it wasn't going to be pretty. AND I've never paid for anything online. AND I'm working toward a natural lifestyle living off the land!! Almost no footprint!! 😉😉
I'm 17 & i hv deleted all the social media applications.....i felt good,,but the only problem I'm facing is UA-cam distractions.....since I had no more social media apps,,that really made me waste mine lot of time on you tube ......but now I realised that now it's time to delete UA-cam too so that I can regain mine focus.....it's gonna be more toughest then preparing for any competitive exam for me .....but I'll take this step as I wanna see myself as a doctor...!! More power to me....I'll do that!🙂
I deleted social media at the end of 2020. Started with Facebook, then Snapchat, Twitter, Tiktok, and finally Instagram. I still have UA-cam, online gaming and Pinterest. But thats it. Best thing I ever did for myself.
Turned that shit off 5 years ago. I feel like an alien in this world of zombies glued to their phones. It's like there is a huge chasim that I feel with many others but personally I feel the best I've ever felt. I garden, hike, read, I'm writing a book, getting major skills and focusing on finacial freedom. It's wonderful
May I ask a few questions? Hopefully they don’t seem noisy. 1. Do you watch a lot of UA-cam? 2. If/when you do watch UA-cam do you watch in a particular way? Like on an iPad or at certain times etc?
But its hard for todays youths. The first impression comes from how well their Instagram is setup. The travel pictures and food pictures makes a person cooler and people judge and decide whether you should be given priority or not. Its scary, because I have seen people with bad heart acting well and good on Instagram but in reality they are just horrible.
I've always been different amongst any company. I'm a bit weirdo and being on Facebook with so many normal people just makes me more depressed. I rather live a completely lonely life. sad but better.
I am solid, I never used it. Social media is a joke, its nothing but spam ads for companies and commercials to buy things. Who wants that in your life. To this day I never used any of them and I feel wonderful for it. Waste of time and life, I am out hiking, biking, and enjoying my years not sitting on a screen. I use the net for limited time and then gone. Encourage all to delete all media accounts and get out with friends and family.
I haven't had social media in 4 years and currently. All of my old friends I realized were not my friends. I went to church with my husband and family and honestly I feel alone because we are so busy homeschooling and busy with our life. But I don't regret my old friends falling away. I don't regret leaving social media in the dust. But I do feel a little alone when everyone else has it and I don't 🤷♀️
Social media isn't really sociable (and certainly not as sociable as it used to be!). What it does do is give a small window into someone else's lifestyle, depending on how they want to project themselves. This can be both a good and a bad thing as your feeds will undoubtedly be filled with people you don't know, doing things that you don't care about but you can also find a genuine interaction with people that you do know or once knew. The takeaway from it all is; social media is a tool to be used. It's not society as we know it, it's not social replacement. It's a daily soap opera where all your friends are the cast. It's the 6 o'clock news for your own personal circle. Everything else is just filler. All IMHO...
Here’s an idea… Have self control… Lack of self control ruins everything. With self control you don’t have to delete social media, quit drinking or quit anything as long as it’s in moderation. People ruin things for themselves..
I m 17 and i deleted all social media i only use, youtube to learn and grow, i realised that i was wasting in such social medias instead i tried new thing and reading books, i hope i will became successful after 5-6 years as i want to became
I stopped all social media in 2016, except UA-cam. I haven't missed it, but I'm also not someone whose job depends on networking or promoting a product.
No need to delete anything but keep in mind that moderation is the key . No matter whatever hobbies you have, keep them in moderation and try to balance your life along with all the things you enjoy. ❤
Life is 10000% better offline!! I don’t think people even realize they are addicted. They don’t acknowledge how bad it is and try to normalize it- It’s truly the cigarettes of our generation.
The only problem i face quitting social media is the fear of missing out - especially amongst the genz generation where every topic of conversation and discussion is somehow connected with what new meme is trending or any new online beefs happening in the corner . I really feel completely clueless and awkward now sitting and talking with people of my age. That is something I am really struggling with.
I would really love to jump on this bandwagon but I am a photographer and a web designer and my work sort of comes through these mediums. Deleting them would be a big problem. I think having social media posting times might help. But to prevent from getting lost in the rabbit hole is such a challenge!
Same with me, as I am a Social Media post designer, so I can't delete it( I want to) but instead we can limit it with some blocking apps. There is one I use " APP BLOCK" still struggling with, too much distraction, If I go with the purpose of work but end up with mindless scrolling on other things. Distraction! It just slipped from my mind, why am I here!
I deleted Instagram and Facebook and only feel better for it. UA-cam on the other hand, entertains and educates me with so much valuable content that I really don't want to give it up. But it does take up a lot of my attention. How could you best deal with this?
Deleted facebook it was so addicting , now I follow the motto produce, don’t consume and UA-cam Is very useful and not near as bad as the others although you definitely need to be careful because the infinite number of curious content is very attractive. Use it, Don’t let it USE You.
If you’re an Artist but you wanna fix your social media addiction, try deleting the apps, and instal them only when you’re going to post your next artwork, then delete again until the next. This way, you can stay away from distractions of like counts and view counts. I’m starting this method from today.
I deleted it after I turned 30. I just felt silly scrolling it as a grown adult wasting time. I think one of the worst things you can do for your day is wake up and start scrolling your phone.

Thanks bro!
it's so much better
I deactivated my Facebook and Instagram accounts and since then my productivity and mental wellbeing has really improved.
I deleted social media some days ago and trust me it makes you more calmer and relaxed person.
I quit my social medias in 2018. Only on UA-cam and on LinkedIn, which I barely check. My mental health is quite great
Ditto!
I am also thinking of deleting it except UA-cam
The fact that nobody talks about the book Dopamine Enigma Unveiled, speaks volumes about how people are stuck in a trance.

Well now I know what I’m doing tonight…
I deleted the app
Do people realize that UA-cam is also a form of social media? This is like the final boss of social media… because it promises good things, even learning things, but that is still a distraction.
Im use modified UA-cam no shorts, no unwanted recommendation ,no trend,no notification i can use UA-cam as max focused on growth
@@mr_enochhow do you use UA-cam with no shorts?
Nothing wrong with youtube or social media. It’s a problem if you are using it when you shouldn’t. Use it 15 minutes a day and not for hours
Don't watch shorts that's it@@mynameisdudge
So true. I took resources and done. I annoying me quickly, but I think its about lifecycle of the mantra.
I’m quitting social media because I was seeking approval and validation from people and relying on it rather than being proud of myself
Just quit a month ago. It's amazing. Turns out I don't need to see junk
And then did you go back? I wanna become a content creator but I have a dilemma
How did you feel like it has been changing you getting off of social media?

i deleted facebook, instagram, tiktok etc for 3 months and finally got out of my 3 year depression since leaving the military. I found myself happy, productive in working out again, spending more time with family, watching tv shows or learning on UA-cam, found myself more outgoing and talktive with women. had a wedding and everyone asking where I BEEN and led to great conversations. Past 2 weeks I brought them all back and slowly started to realize I dont want this again and redeleted an hour ago.
UA-cam is the most addictive of all of them in my opinion
I recently just quit social media...
Seeing people having fun and just enjoying themselves it kinda bummed me out because I was jealous and short tempered at times so I decided to just quit...
I realized making acquaintances with people on there is harder both on social media and in the real world....
So I decided it was time to quit and I'm working on my goals and my job to get where I need to be and be successful in my life...
I'm moving on from Social Media and I'm still on that path...
I pray for myself for the very best! Everything will be alright!
God is good!
I quitted social media few months back but i started feeling that i am missing out on things. I'll not be able to see what ppl are upto nd yea a misconception that i hold in my mind is ppl my fellow classmates will call me boring so, i reactivated it . But it was the worst decision I'd made this time i wasted my 2-3 months in a situationship moreover it totally fucked up my mental health. After that i realised how much wrong decision i have made by reactivating now it's been a month when i again deactivated I'm still fighting the urge to reactivate it again but now I'm not gonna do this to myself again... Nd onlyyyy using yt for such inspirational videos.. thank you helps a lot
I had tried to delete all my social media for years. I knew it was toxic to my mental health, but it was addictive. I quit all social media 2 years ago, and I haven't been happier or healthier in my entire life.
I got off social media in Oct 2021. I was addicted to social media 1,000%. It was the greatest gift I gave to myself. 😊❤✊🙏
Good job.
I also deleted social media and I am feeling so good❤ only on LinkedIn and UA-cam only
Keep it up!
Student??
I shut down Facebook and Instagram a year ago. I don't want either back. I don't miss it. I'm reading my Bible. My family relationships are so much better! My home is decluttered and clean. My work productivity is at an all time high. I only have UA-cam for the purpose of self improvement and learning. I'm not on my phone as much. It's honestly beautiful and simplistic.
I stopped using social media a month or so ago and found it a positive experience and don’t miss it. I didn’t use it often before but found I was wasting time on social media just to fill a procrastination void.
Deleting social media is therapeutic
For me, it has almost been 3 years without socials. As for UA-cam, I have uninstalled it on my cellphone. I use it on my iPad exclusively for my studies and other useful stuff. I strictly keep the algorithm in check. Best thing to do honestly. Please do it as soon as possible.
how do you check your algorithm?
Don't you just use the ipad all the time instead? It's not exactly more difficult to get to most of the time
@@PercyJackson93 yea. I m preparing for some examination which requires youtube and stuff. Otherwise I would not be using it at all.
God bless.
oh my gosh yes mentally fatigue is so true! once my eyes started to get sore and i was like something needs to change..
38 as well and I was one of the first on Facebook, deleted my account (along with Instagram and Twitter) a few yrs ago. Best thing ever!
I deleted all socials 2 years ago. Best decision I ever made! I only watch educational videos on UA-cam but I limit it.
I deleted Instagram, twitter and facebook and my goal was to learn how to mediitate to hopefully reduce my intense anxiety, and I did :)
I quit all social media (obviously besides YT) in 2019. Best decision I ever made. Didn’t miss it, and still don’t
Good for you
Best decision for me as well. It was really hard with Facebook as I was using it to be enmeshed to some family members but once I let them go I was free.
I haven’t had social media since - 2012 - I was. Fortunate enough to meet my wife and there is no need to sit around and compare all day
My husband and I quit social media as teenagers back in 2013.
Very well said!
Deleted all my social media in 2020, best move. Life changing.

Wow lovely! I am inspired
I was so negative that I only attracted my kind of people. lol!

Yes! Replacing socials with something else is so helpful. Reading helped me. I didn’t know I was a reader until I got a “dumb phone” a few years back. Now I’m an insatiable reader.
I just deactivated fb and am about to do instagram.
I’m done. I want to live my life in real time.
Loved this
It’s been a few years of no social media for me ( besides UA-cam n B/R)… connected to the universe more than ever
I quit social media for the most part with the exception of LinkedIn and Snapchat. The former I kept for business, career, and networking purposes; the latter I kept for dating and hookup purposes.
(I don’t consider UA-cam social media because I don’t maintain a personal channel that reveals a lot of daily stuff about my personal existence.)
Have to say, getting off social media has helped me hone my focus on my goals, fortified my mental health, improved my situational awareness, and sharpened my (already “okay”) ability to connect with people in the daily flow.
I also added a variety of teas and “quiet time” to my daily routine as well. Life moves fast enough already.
I'm also deleting my Social media for the next 60 days and will come back to the video and will share my learnings.
I'm not on any Social Media since 2017.

It's impossible
Artists are products of social media, not the other way around
What kind of artists? If it's real tangible artwork Etsy is a pretty easy way to sell your work. If it's photography I can see having an Instagram account you only use for marketing, but how many real photographs are being sold that way?
For musicians UA-cam is still pretty good for that along with other apps people use like Spotify. For letting people know about shows you can still have a page, but not a personal page.
I did yesterday.. and it will continue till next year june 2025.. 7 months challange
I’m not perfect but you’re life will be better with out the big three
Exactly. Social media is replacing real life for so many people. It feels glorious to be out of the shitshow

All IMHO...
I’m 30 years and I don’t use any social media for almost five years. Really, guys, try it.
Here’s an idea… Have self control… Lack of self control ruins everything. With self control you don’t have to delete social media, quit drinking or quit anything as long as it’s in moderation. People ruin things for themselves..

The void needs to be filled. Stopping social media creates a vacuum, if not filled then you’ll revert back to the old behavior.
this video is a fantastic resource, thank you for making it!
Done it 2 months ago! What a good choice!!!!
"Papering over the void" That works. Social Media is to being social as Fast food is to actual food.
There is one I use " APP BLOCK"
still struggling with, too much distraction, If I go with the purpose of work but end up with mindless scrolling on other things. Distraction!
It just slipped from my mind, why am I here!
Use it only from your work computer
Thank you for this conversation
It’s funny that he talks about quitting social media and what to do to fill the void EXACTLY like one would talk about quitting drugs or alcohol 🤔
Cause Social Media is basically a drug that has been normalized 😮
