I was on 3 8-2s a day for years, now I'm down to 2 8-2s a day. Worse mistake of my life was not quitting cold turkey man. I would recomend anybody quit cold turkey. If you have will power to. Been off subs for 10 days now after 8 years being on them for 15 years of opiate abuse- what a fucking road, never thought I’d be off & doctors I saw over the years made me feel like I needed to stay on them . Got tired of paying these doctors $200/month - I weened off on my own very slowly- last 2 months was taking .125mg strip & jumped off there. Had about a week of goosebumps, restless leg at night & low energy. Worst for me was going below 1mg & the absolute dark depression that I had to fight through. I will say opiate withdrawal is worse than sub withdrawal. Forcing myself to exercise & eat nutritiously really helped. There is a light at the end- I encourage anyone struggling to find support without judgement- my heart goes out to my fellow addicts.

    I disagree with alot of this video. Short term. A week is not a month or a yr in any sane person's life. Dragging this out over a long period of time is a bad idea. The sooner you can get off the subs the better. Dont strech this shit out. I've seen it I've lived it. I've heard story after story. There is not one person who needs more than 8mg of suboxone. Start there in 4 to 6 days go to 4mg. Go 4 to 6 days and get yourself to a quarter. Dont fuck around making bullshit excuses a week can be a month or a yr. Get to a quarter and once your there it's over. Look at what you have already accomplished. Take your quarter for a few days then brake that in half. Then move on with your life. Recovery is not a lifestyle, it's a life choice. If you fail then start over. Just don't settle. That is what I did and it was a huge mistake. Suboxone saved my life. But I wasted a lot of my life on it. Time and money I'll never get back. Dont drag this out. If your doc is telling you that it can take up to 2 yrs to get of suboxone then run the other way. Find a better doctor. As long as your serious about getting clean and staying clean. If your doctor is only in it for the money how much do you think he really gives a shit. If your doctor starts you out on more than 8mg once a day. Find a new doctor. Unless you don't really give a shit about anything. Suboxone is supposed to be short term

    I started Subs on 6mg a day, 2 month later I’m on 2mg a day, I take away about 1mg per week. I’ve mastered my tapering method. I feel amazing... starting taking off small pieces and taking less every ‘week’. Even if you feel shitty, don’t take more. Put up with the week. Take your time also, but tapering is easy with minor discomfort.. don’t get off opioids to stay on Subs forever. Hope everyone gets right. Much love

      @@sunnys3325 Excellent! For me, the jump you're about to do was the worst one. Although, I went from 1.5 down to .5mg, so it was a 1mg jump. Just get your mind thinking in terms of how you'll be in a year. It's a long process. But, if you're really wanting to be free, you can do it. Stay at each jump dose for at least two weeks. My final dose was .125 for a week, I think. Try not to dwell on how bad you feel when you feel bad. I was able to get through without missing work or anything. The longest lasting symptoms for me were trouble sleeping and bad restless legs. Also a general lack of motivation that lasted months. Just go with it and it gets better, I promise.

    The 3 biggest things that helped me to get sober , as follows.
    1- I admitted to myself first and foremost that we had a serious problem here and it needs to be addressed now before you die .
    2- the most important part , I developed a relationship with God , not calling it a higher power (which he is) I’m calling a spade a spade here . Develop a personal relationship and hit your knees to pray , humility is good in Gods eyes.
    3- when you go to bed , plan something for the next day that excites and motivates you. Whether it be after work or if your not employed find something to do that you enjoy . In my case , I hit the gym and I mean hit it as hard as humanly possible for years. I got in incredible shape and being 6’5 I got to a leaner 245 lbs and was deadlifting over 600 pounds . I gave myself a goal , stuck to my regiment and way surpassed what I thought I could do.
    Also skydiving was really an awesome part of sobriety ! It helped me to throw away a life living in fear and realize that nothing is impossible if you give it all you got . You will fail at times, but failure is one of the single biggest steps in finally achieving happiness and success.
    I hope this helps you , even one person.
    I love you all

    Yeah, he hit the nail on the head. If you taper down to .125 and even split up your strips into .065, what I call "dots", you will be fine. Start skipping days or going as long as you can without dosing, and then dose when you absolutely have to. You will have pretty much no withdrawals. You will have to let your brain readjust, so lack of motivation, sleep issues, that kind of stuff, completely a cake walk compared to hardcore Opioid withdrawal. It is just tough living without your fix, so you just have to stay positive, move forward, and readjust your life. But, you won't be sick as hell on the bathroom floor wishing you were dead lol.

    I've been following your suggestions and helpful knowledge of the subject for awhile now so thank you. I've been on 8mg for a few years now so I know I'm going to have some trials and tribulations quitting this stuff but I'm so ready to. It did its purpose for me it helped me in every way possible as far as maintaining my job and finances, relationships with family and friends, and just getting away from that lifestyle in general so I feel blessed for that. But it isn't all roses. I don't feel like myself. I feel like I'm a different person not in a good way. I'm not the upbeat and outgoing person I used to be. I'm just different now. But in the small windows in the mornings after I wake up before I take my dose I feel the way I used to feel. It's going to be different for every individual and every situation of course. But I'm ready to take my life back.

      Yeah I was prescribed it for 4 1/2 years and quit taking it and after I quit taking it I literally went back to being the person I used to be. Unfortunately I got really addicted to opioids and am now prescribed it again but I did have five years off of it and I'm doing everything in my power to get in a place where I can quit again. I used to talk really bad about Suboxone because I really don't like being on it because I know what it's like once you get off of it but it does have its place. I love what you said about that glimpse in the morning of what you used to be you're exactly right and as you quit taking it it's like layers get pulled off of you in overtime you go back to being you it's very euphoric. I'm not going to lie to you though it's hard to do but you can do it as a matter of fact after sometime your body ends up creating like a defense in you get used to being dope sick. Should I continue to draw this out longer or should I maybe go down a little more and start skipping days? I just want off it trying to avoid withdrawal, or at least as minimal as possible. Your videos and website are awesome. I must have watched every suboxone video on UA-cam and read every single piece of literature I good get my hands on - medical and anecdotal. I have yet been able to find a scenario somewhat similar to mine. The closest to my situation that I found was a guy on the same dose as me for 2 months who jumped at like 1mg and said it was really tolerable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I know you cannot give medical advice - let’s just say I am in the mental health field myself - but just curious about a hypothetical scenario...

      That would mean that I will be on suboxone for a total of 28 days approximately. I feel amazing for the first time in a long time and I’m hoping that I continue to feel this way after I’m off, thanks to the extremely short time I have been on them and the mega doses of vitamin c sodium ascorbate I am taking. Exactly the same for me. I detoxed one time in a hospital from 16mlgs because ALL the doctors said it would be NO PROBLEM. I made it 46 days of HELL ON EARTH! I lost my 20/20 vision, a headache that is literally undesirable, like a nail had been drilled in between my eyes. I laid on the couch for 46 days, didn’t even turn on the television. On day 47, I went back to the Sub Dr and he put me back on 8mlgs. I wish to hell I had tried maybe 0.125mlgs. Now I’m still at 8 and desperately trying to taper down doing the “step method.” 6mlgs one day and 8mlgs the next. Suboxone is EVIL. To think I could of just gone to rehab for 60 days coming off a relatively mild Dr prescribed oxycodone regiment. I had NO IDEA what “Suboxone” was a or I would have never taken it. Constipation, depression and my testosterone is so low I haven’t had sex with my wife forever. Marriage is on the line. BIG PHARMA!!! The only people who should ever be placed on Suboxone are people that have been jabbing a needle with heroin in their arm and have tried EVERYTHING ELSE! I feel for you. No one but us actually understands the hell we’ve gone through. I’m told Sublicade is a very doable taper, four shots then nothing. But I also hear people have severe withdrawals too on Sublicade. So I’m determined to get off Suboxone. My life depends on it. Know I feel like an expert in this field. I definitely know more than the “doctors.” Best of luck to you…

    I’m currently on suboxone but I’ve tried to quit cold turkey and also from tapering and I’ll tell you I’ve never felt that bad in my entire life. The withdrawals from oxy are sooo much easier to deal with.. since the suboxone has such a long half life it takes you 2-3 days to even start withdrawing. I didn’t feel “normal” for almost 2 months when I quit last time. Makes me scared to ever get off it.

    I have been on this bullshit since 2009, consistently thought several different doctors. Around three years ago something happened and I lost my doc for a few months. I had tampered down to less than 1mg a day and had been at that dose a while and was fine with that dose. I went 22 days before I couldn't take this sickness anymore. It was still intensifying. This medication should only be prescribed for a short term thing to help through opioid detox. Big pharma shouldn't be granted the right to ruin the lives of people like this. I have been a prisoner for 10 years. My body hurts so bad everyday when I wake up and The pain doesn't go away until I dose, but after I dose I lose all energy and feel tire the rest of the day. When I was on pain meds I could stop at any givin time and feel like I wouod have a cold for a day or two. I was on Suboxone for a year before I went a day without and first felt this sickness. If I'd known how bad it was I'd never done it. I have only been on 2 mg for the last few years and at this point I feel like I'm detoxing every morning I wake up. I am so unbelievably tired of it.

Yet, on the couple of occasions that I have tried to stop taking it, I go in to withdrawal around hour 30 and went as far as 72 hours where it was pure hell. I was down to 2-3 mg per day. Does withdrawal happen faster when your dosage is low due to the lower amounts in your system, or am i just a wuss who got a small taste of it and will be crushed when the real thing comes?

If I had a patient that was taking 8 to 12mg, I’d have them start by just getting to 8mg every day for a month. See how they felt and then either keep them on that dose another month or cut back slightly. The next step would be to go to 6mg/day or try the alternating schedule I discuss on my 16wk taper video. Each step down depends on how well you’re feeling on current dose. Keep your momentum, motivation, and positive mindset and you’ll be able to do this!

      Dr. Chris Park so Wednesday will mark 3 weeks off suboxone. I feel great but I have one issue that won’t seem to reset itself and that’s my sleep. I’ve been dealing with horrible insomnia for 3 weeks. To the point it’s becoming way to much. In the beginning I wouldn’t sleep at all and would finally sleep for a few hours at around 6am. But for about 2 weeks now I’ll fall asleep around 11pm but I will wake up at 3am and be up until 11pm again. The only times I’ve gotten more than 7 hours is once a week when I’m so mentally exhausted I shut down. I can’t sleep more than 3 hours a day and it’s taking a toll. When will this reset? I know everything takes time. Any info will help. Thank you.

I just couldn't get the pills cut smaller. And if course, after 20 years being in opiates the withdrawals were insane. After four days I got some Kratom to take just to help me through the acute withdrawal phase. Long story short is in an earlier post you advised against taking Kratom and I should have listened. I am about 36 hours in from taking no Kratom and the withdrawals are hell. You advised against using Kratom as a tool for withdrawal. I wish I would have listened to your well placed advice.

I have bulging discs in my lower back from a weight lifting accident. And I kept upping my dose and well, baby came out with opioid like withdrawals and I was accused of abusing drugs, which they ran all the test but it was humiliating Non the less, because I already held so much guilt on what I did to my child but then to be shamed for something I didn’t do didn’t help me or him, but I wanted to get off it and I had severe withdrawals, they put me on subs and when I tried to taper down they told me it was too early, 7 months later and I’m down only 1 of my 3 pill alotted daily. @dr.chrispark  5 років тому

      My general rule of thumb is you'll start feeling 50% better every week after the first 2-3wks. This is not scientific though. Just my observation. And effects seem to be more due to rapidity of taper and/or jumping off point. You're at 2weeks so this is a good benchmark. Things should start getting better. I don't recommend Kratom. It's an opiate so, you could still technically have some withdrawal due to it (I know plenty will disagree with me on that). Good luck brother and keep pushing forward!

    • @dr.chrispark
      @dr.chrispark  5 років тому

      That's a great question and it's one reason a lot of people stay on Suboxone for long periods of time. There's no way to know if you'll have serious cravings again until you're at that point. The best thing to do is prepare all the other ways: exercise, sleep well, good nutrition, GOOD COUNSELING. And then you'll be better prepared to handle unforeseen circumstances. I've also had some patients that were off meds but then thought they were going to relapse so they went back on Suboxone. As far as the taper goes, some people have withdrawal as low as 0.25mg and some people feel fine. My patients seem to do better with the low and slow approach. I try to get them to as low a dose as possible with alternating doses sometimes and/or skipping days at times to get a feel for when withdrawal (if any) kicks in.

I always keep four extra Suboxone in my gun case other than my script so I know I always have some. I was just giving you an idea so you know.

On Jan. 13th, 2022 i took my last little TINY sliver (I Almost couldn't see it). I woke up Sat. the 15th in a full-blown withdrawal! It's been pretty hellish since. I'm on day 21. Feel a bit better. I mean "a bit". Yawning constantly, black diarrhea, sweating, tingling everywhere, and ZERO energy. I understand we are ALL different. But, good God this sucks! Staying as positive as I can. Thank you again, Dr. Chris. :)

    I have a question, I was reading that the sub withdrawal is the worst in the first 72 hrs like I imagined since the heroine and fentanyl were always the worst in those first 3 days. I’m on Suboxone now and have been for 4 years. I was at 24mg a day after only a few months, and now for about the last 3/4 of the year I have been on 28mg. I wanted to see how bad it would be so I thought I would just not take any for as long as I can until I couldn’t stand it and then I would. I get weekly carries now for being clean so long so I only go in once a week to pick up my doses for the week. I last took mine on Thursday morning at about 8:45, and it’s now Sunday night at midnight. I haven’t hardly had much withdrawals tho and I’m wondering if it’s cause of how high my dose is and the naloxone has maybe countered the effects of it for a while which is why I feel like it hasn’t helped me much over these last years in terms of body aches and feeling good enough to do much, or if it’s just cause it’s a high dose and it hasn’t all completely left my system. Today I was feeling slight withdrawals like the chills then sweats from one second to the next, yawning a lot, runny nose and sneezing, and I’d say slightly more body aches, but I’ve been able to sleep and eat, I haven’t been super restless or bouncing my legs through the ceiling, so I’m a little confused as I figured by now I’d be throwing up everything I eat and shitting a waterfall out me arse. If anyone else has experienced this could you let me know if it’s just cause it’s not all out of my system and that I may feel really sick in the next day or so, or if the naloxone has countered it all these yrs. I heard that the naloxone is only in it to prevent people shooting it and that it doesn’t do anything when ingested/ dissolved under tongue. Also I will add that I have been quite constipated for several weeks, so I haven’t passed much of it out of my system that way, but I know if the sickness is coming that will pass very quickly lol. Also I was told when I started the program that 24mg was the max dose, and I was reading about heavy users who only took 8-12 mg a day and it worked wonders, and here I was at 24mg after only 4 months on the program, and now at 28mg.
    UPDATE:
    It’s now 3:45 the next day, I’ve now gone 79hrs without the suboxone and my symptoms have stayed about the same. I was able to go to the bathroom this morning, and I’m sure by now it’s all out of my system. I had a pretty shitty sleep tho, waking up every few hrs cause my back had that restless feeling in it you get from withdrawal. But I’m now convinced that the higher the dose, the naloxone cancels out the bupe, cause this is crazy... I used to withdrawal so bad from the fentanyl and heroine, and I see people in here saying the sub withdrawal can be worse, but here I am 79 hrs without it and have very mild to barely any withdrawal symptoms. The chills and sweats are getting annoying and I’m still slightly restless, but it’s not to the point I’m laying on the ground bouncing or kicking my legs around. I have been able to eat as well. I was havin some stomach cramps earlier and felt like I was going to shit myself but it was just mostly gas. I’m probably going to take an 8mg here to get rid of the sweats and chills cause they’re annoying, but definitely going to tell my dr about this cause I’m really surprised at how well I feel for just stopping 28mg for 3 n a half days now cold turkey.

    • @india_daws0n867
      @india_daws0n867 5 років тому

      Buprenorphine definitely wouldn't be out of your system in 79 hours, but withdrawal is different for everyone. Some have it easier than others. What did you end up doing? Have you stayed off the Suboxone?

    • @LJT9393
      @LJT9393 5 років тому

      iNdiA_ Daws0n no I just took my regular dose that night. Like the sweats and slight chills we’re getting kind of annoying, yawning like every 30 seconds and eyes watering a lot also was annoying. I dunno maybe if I waited till the next day it would’ve been really bad like it was coming off fentanyl and heroin. But I mean I usually don’t take my whole dose cause I don’t really need it. I end up with so many extra 8mg and 2mg pills when I go pick up my weeks worth every Thursday. Next visit with my dr I’m probably going to talk about starting to come down to get off it.

    But what if you been tapering for four years and you’ve been sitting at 1 mg a day for two years. Because I’ve been doing that forever and when I stop taking it I get very sick it’s not like I wake up and say everything’s gonna be good my head is absolutely splitting wide open my eyes my nose start watering and then all the stomach problems. On top of that this medicine Strips testosterone and potassium from your body they had to put me on testosterone treatment because my testosterone levels dropped super low and I have to be very careful about my potassium. All these things combined makes it really hard to get off of this stuff especially if you’ve been taking it for so long what is your advice

    • @dr.chrispark
      @dr.chrispark  4 роки тому +1

      James Hopkins If one of my patients can’t stop at 1mg (and most can’t), I have them continue tapering. I have them alternate 1mg and 0.5 mg every other day. Maybe for a few months or maybe several. Then down to 0.5mg daily. Several months later, we try spreading out the dose from every 24hrs to every 30hrs. Then once stable, every 36hrs, etc. just an example. Talk to your doc about what might be your best approach

    Dr park would you suggest using suboxone to come off methadone. I used it for 2 weeks to get off pills and h, but I know methadone is a different monster to come off of. I'm trying to come down I've came down to 70 from 140 a day but I'm stuck and I want to be clean again I had 6 month clean off opiates and got another injury got scared and let a friend talk me into methadone which was a life saver at the time. But 5 years later I feel trapped and I no longer need opiates for pain for the injuries of my youth, and I want to be free to live again. I'm a truck driver by trade and can't go where the money is because I have to be near home since I'm shackled to the clinic. Help me find the right direction to my freedom again. It's the fear of the unknown that keeps me chained to this lifestyle.
    Ps. To the guys that will try to tell me it's my choice I'm here I know it's my fault for abusing my medication and other drugs and going down this path. I need direction how to find my way out, not to be told it's my fault I'm here.

Going into surgery today and still have a couple questions... I've been on suboxone. My dr switched me to subutex for a week. Then I have to switch back to suboxone. If I have to take pain medication, can I take it while taking my regular dose of subutex? I doubt I'll need the pain medicine for long, if at all but want to be prepared if I do need it.

      Jenna Talia Current recommendations are leaning towards taking the pain meds if necessary while on subutex. Could make you nauseated or be less effective. My preferred method is increasing the subutex for pain control after surgery instead of taking opiates. This seems to work best for my patients for the days following the surgery. Make sure you consult with your doc before making any changes though. Good luck!

    Dude, please don't tell people they aren't going to have any of very little withdrawal if they taper.
    This is just not true. I've detoxed off subs twice now.
    This second time I weaned down to pencil head micro doses and the wds are still a B.
    Yes, I believe they have been less intense this last go around, but I ain't going to b.s nobody and set them up for failure by pretending they a walk in the park when they simply aren't.
    Conversely, I don't won't to scare anyone either. You CAN 100% do the detox.
    It's definitely doable, but it's going to be uncomfortable for a couple weeks min.
    Do your research for comfort meds and when you have made up your mind and have the time you CAN do the detox.
    I have done it both ways, cold turkey and by weaning down.
    I'm not a doctor, but I can share my experience and hope. Just comment and I do my best to give details from my experiences and what helped me most. Knowing what to expect this last detox made the seemingly hopeless days seem far less hopeless.
