I’m using this method because I’m not paying attention most of the time in my math classes especially when we start a new topic:/ so I have to teach it myself and because ik that I would forget about the concept because I don’t pay attention like I said I have to write it down. It’s soo important to pay attention in class so I do not recommend not paying attention! I’m just very lucky that I can understand maths most of the time very fast, even just by looking at the solution (in higher grades it’s kinda hard to find out the concept by yourself) and get good grades because of that lol

Summary notes for note taking chemistry:
    1. Read through content and highlight text that are important (that your teacher emphasize, main ideas to capture the rough concept). Forces brain to comprehend. Ideally, read through course content before the lecture to reinforce what you already know.
    2. Write and solve problems, check your work afterwards.
This is my interpretation of your other video on how to do well in chemistry class. I think you had a lot of good information in that video on note taking.
“Pre-read - previewing the text, making presumptions of the text for connections to previous knowledge so that you can build off it during the actual reading so that it’s easier to understand.
Annotate/make lots of notes in a way that makes most sense to you, in your own words during your lecture and after.
Summarize information into tables he says, yet I find splitting information into section summaries more convenient. However, I can understand the thought process since it further forces you to further condense important information into easily accessible pieces, which is a form of independent problem solving from my perspective as you build efficiency in summarizing important information through repetition.
Group similar mechanisms together so that you can easily refer back to them later, and I said something along those lines already under “Pre-read”.
Write down every single thing the professor wrote down whether in slides or information professors emphasize during lecture.”

I’m preparing for my college entry exams and I found the Campbell method really good for IN CLASS notes, it allows me to take notes on the margin and write down questions and tips. I’m studying to enter the STEM area and this has helped me a lot, for out of class studying I read the book/slides like this:
1 I just glance the whole chapter, not read, just check it out
2 then I read the subtitles and images/ graphs
3 then I read some of the exercises to get an idea of how should I approach the subject
4 ONLY THEN I start reading + taking notes

You've got to figure out a lot of stuff on your own and that's what I've had to do. If you're willing to look into extra info online or through other books when your professor doesn't give their notes, you actually do yourself better by organizing your own notes. YESSS A LITTLE LOUDER FOR PEOPLE AT THE BACK! I’ve been watching several videos on note-taking tips but I always feel like their tips are only applicable in STEM-based subjects. Humanities and Social Sciences subjects are always text-heavy so you can’t always dig deep into all the details like you would have in other subjects. It is also true that professors from these subjects don’t always have a presentation from which we can annotate. But when they do have their PowerPoint it’s almost always one-liner general sentences so you really have to pay attention to the discussion and how they fit in the overall concept.

    Chemistry
    Read textbook before lecture
Highlight main ideas so u hv a rough concept
    Annotate textbook during/after lecture.
problems make great examples(say of E2 E1 reactions so you know what those kids of reactions look like)
In le textbook, fact sheets: info that’s good to know in head/tricks to remember that
    Biology
    Annotate slides
Annotate diagrams or u wont know what’s going on later
Over annotating isnt a problem! U can condense info later while studying! Plus profs tend to test more on what’s taught verbally
    Math
Write evth on the board! Math is step wise so if u skip any steps while copying they won’t make sense later
Write info on how to solve the question
60% examples 40% texts //so u know how to logically do the math when it’s presented in a diff way in exams//
    Humanities
[VERY content heavy] so condense as much as possible
//condense every course except maths// separate whats relevant drom irrelevant ie main idea from supporting deets
May not have slides so gotta decipher verbal stiff ie cut outta fillers so
Language: notes as simples as possible so vocabs, grammar dont needa write full sentences
    Business
    annotate graphs n diagrams
    Same as math + humanities

This coming school year in September is my last year a senior high student. 12th grade and I'll be finally a freshman in college next year. Tbh, I'm not really organized in taking notes. I don't do highlightings but I do slight jotting down of notes. Math is my comfort subject and my notebooks/papers are a total mess. My classmates don't usually understand my notes but I always pass my exams with those lectures I've written. And I realized that being organized like how you actually tipped about is a great help. I'll def try this since I'm actually aiming for high grades and more knowledge so I could pass college entrance exams in my dream school. Ty

That style of note-taking may work in high school, but things change quickly in college. Good luck with your entrance exams!

The best way for me to understand and fall in love with chemistry was to write in dominate colors that I enjoyed and do practice problems. The best way for chemistry is 100% practice problems. I love writing with purple, blue, and black pens. I’m a Pennsylvania student :)

Well... at first, I really apreciate your hand-writting. Secondly, your content helps me to understand and to know about another kind of notes taking. Well I love Maths, Chem and Bio and I always draw stuff to remember easily.

I think your advice on math notes might as well save my life. I've always struggled with math, because I struggle with numbers, whilst I'm good with words. So, it would make sense for my math knowledge and expertise to develope if I write down the confusing process of "what this symbol did to that number and gave birth to this hydra" in words instead of numbers.

okay, let me say this right now, but your style has helped me receive an A in Bio I in college. I used to have B's and C's in high school, even though I loved the topic, I just could not put it on paper, so my ability to practice it the way you shared, and my prior knowledge, I got the grade I wanted! I am going to try using the chem & calc I notes, I have to retake calc since I didn't get the grade I wanted, but when I used your step-by-step style for calc, it definitely helped compared to the majority of the year in which I couldn't really understand how I got the steps, so I just need to prove it this time, and chem, gonna be rough but hopefully, like the last two sets, I can learn chem easily!

I loved this video. It gave me great ideas to help me with my notes and specially ones that deal with math since. I never thought about writing the steps in words

    • @NathanWu
      @NathanWu  3 роки тому +3

For sure! Writing in words really helps you understand the process and avoids the common mistake of "memorizing" the steps! Good luck :)
