I do something similar to this in med school, 1. I read through all the chapter sub headings & draw a map on how they link 2. I try to understand the entire chapter (not memorize, just focused on understanding) 3. I start taking notes on the important points & at this point I've already memorized the entire chapter
real, because memorizing everything should never be the goal. if you understand something, even if you forget it, you will still be able go through the steps in your head and arrive at the right answer (ex. in math)

Summary guys: 1. Flip through the pages a. How long is the chapter b. How many words are there compared to images c. Does anything jump out at you? Graphs, images, tables etc. 2. Go to the end of the chapter a. Did they give you any sort of a quiz? b. Quiz will give the important information that should be gained from the chapter 3. Go to the beginning of the chapter a. Read the bold print b. Titles, subtitles, headings: Break down of information 4. Go to the beginning one more time a. First and last sentence in each paragraph b. First sentence is the introduction . The last sentence of the paragraph helps you sum it up 5. Now you have got the preview a. Start reading the chapter and make your notes on it ****REPETITION IS MOTHER OF LEARNING ****

00:20 📚 Don't read a textbook like a novel. Start by previewing the chapter. 02:20 📖 Read the quiz questions at the end first. This highlights what's important in the chapter. 03:19 📌 Focus on bold print, titles, subtitles, and topic headings for an overview. 04:51 📝 Read the first and last sentences of each paragraph for exposure, not comprehension. 06:08 🔄 This method is more effective than cramming for retention. Repetition aids learning.
I wanna add one more: If you speak a second language, translate the material in your mind. Doing this will force you to engage more, and will help you block other distracting thoughts

Finally a to-the-point tutorial. Most of these kind of videos just ramble on about “getting into the correct learning mindset” and “stop stressing out about it”. This actually has specific instructions I can do immediately. For anyone in doubt - I tried this method it works impeccably. All textbooks are different so adapt the style as fit, but I assure you that this is fail-safe.

A quick summary for those who want it: - Flip through each page: Overview on what is coming. - Look at the End-Quiz: You know what you look for. - Read the bold print: Information has been broken down for you. - Read the first and last sentence in a paragraph: The first sentence is an introduction & the last a conclusion. This method takes more time than just reading the chapter in one go, but it is way more effective. And remember: REPETITION IS THE MOTHER OF LEARNING.

Repeat for all chapters: 1. *Flip Through* each page in the chapter _(Tells your brain what to look out for, how it's structured, and other subconscious benefits)_ 2. Read *Questions* at end of chapter _(Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon)_ 3. Read *Bold Words* in the chapter _(Titles, subtitles, Topic-Headings. Get a better understanding of the structure)_ 4. Read *First and Last Sentence* of each paragraph _(First sentence gives an indication on what the rest of the paragraph is about, the last sentence sums up the important information)_ 5. *Read through* the chapter and *take notes* _(Brings everything together and lets you connect the dots)_

he basically emphasized how to study smart instead of studying hard. a person can read a whole chapter of the book and still won't comprehend the important parts. this is a great guide especially if the textbook has way more pages per chapter.

‘wasting time’ - I don’t like how you use that term against great technological resources. It really is sad how the education system is formed. It’s horrible. You act like a boring old textbook is the only thing you can use. Well, it might be the case anyway for you, likely. The System just doesn’t hold up to our future standards anymore. College is a repetitive career mongering indoctrination camp, and everyone says that it is the only way to get a good-paying career. Also, Although people say you need money to live, something our Education System doesn’t take into effect is a Work/Life balance. We’ve all been told to get a good paying job; but not one that will make us happy. You need to realize this.

I just wanted to let you know that this video changed my life. I have never been able to focus on or understand readings before and I never knew how to study. I would just mindlessly read and re-read things without understanding them and while constantly zoning out because I didn’t understand what I was reading anyways. I didn’t understand how everyone else seemed to be getting it and learning so much while I fell further and further behind. Although it’s probably too late for my academic career, I just tried reading a textbook to a subject I’ve always wanted to understand but have never been able to no matter how hard I tried to read through the textbooks. After watching this video, I wrote down the method and tried it, and it’s incredible. I actually got lost in the textbook, fully absorbed in the information, without the rising sense of dread, panic, and mind-numbingness that usually accompanies it. I spent about two hours reading and taking notes, and I actually finished and fucking understand Chapter 1. I honestly can’t believe it worked, and how fun it was to truly learn something. This is such a simple skill, that is going to aide me so much in every area of my life going forwards. Because of you, now I know how to learn. Thank you.

After my first week of uni and not understanding the textbooks I had to read I have been watching videos such as this and here's is what I've learned so far: HOW TO READ / STUDY TEXTBOOKS Step 1: Flip through the entire chapter, to get a sense of how long it is and see whatever stands out to you Step 2: Thoroughly read through the quiz at the end of each section or chapter to gain the understanding of what important questions you should be asking yourself from here on out. **IMPORTANT: FOR STEPS 3 & 4 YOU ARE READING FOR EXPOSURE TO THE CONTENT, NOT COMPREHENSION** Step 3: Go to the start of the chapter and read through all of the bold texts throughout the chapter Step 4: Go back to the start of the chapter and read the first and last sentence of each paragraph. Step 5: Finally read through the chapter fully while framing questions that come to your mind on a blank piece of paper and highlighting in the text what made you think of those questions (Remember to stay curious, this will help you think of questions from the text). For now, don’t answer these questions, wait until you have finished the section or topic, then go through and answer them. Step 6: If the teacher has posted any type of video going over the topic. Watch it, it will help immensely because it was what they think is most important Hope this helps someone :)
How to watch this video: 1. Keep skipping 5 seconds till the end 2. Watch the last 15 seconds of the video 3. Watch the first and last 5 seconds of each minute. 4. Now watch the entire video Remember guys, REPETITION is the mother of learning. . Jokes apart, this is THE video that is going to drastically improve your grades. All the best.
A lot of people are saying this should be taught in high school, but personally, I believe that this should be taught in sixth grade so that students can effectively learn how to use it so that they understand it when it matters.
Especially as this is more familiarizing our brain with the content so it’s more efficient at processing it. It wouldn’t require 11 year olds to conceptually understand this practical process in depth, just repeat the steps for more effective learning.
Can we appreciate how this video/class was following that exact formula? First listing the points without any deep explanation to any of them. Then started over and got into the how's and why's for each point.

True. But I feel like this would help in a lot of stuffs in life too, or if u decide to take another course or a free course that requires reading or textbooks. 👍
Step 1: Just flip through the pages, just looking at pictures, diagrams, graphs, etc. to just estimating how many words are there and how long the chapter is. Don't read at this point, just flip the pages. Step 2: Go to the end of the chapter and read the questions, if available. This gives you a sense of direction. What to look for in the book. What does the author consider important. Step 3: Read the bold print. Read the titles, the subtitles, the subheadings. This gives you a sense of structure. Step 4: Read the first sentence and last sentence in each paragraph. A good author would introduce the paragraph in the first sentence and sum it up in the last. *Keep this in mind if writing. * Note that we still haven't started reading for comprehension. We are reading for exposure. Analogy: We are not connecting the dots yet. We are building a map of the dots. Step 5: Now read the chapter for comprehension and take notes. This seems like a lot of work compared to reading and forgetting but compared to reading it for comprehension or remembering for a test, this is WAY easier and WAY less work. Repetition is the mother of learning.

Yes!! I'm taking online classes and it's definitely harder being that I'm so used to having physical textbooks in front of me. I cannot stand e-books so I'm trying to adapt. That plus family obligations, distractions and not sleeping well also interrupt my study time and aren't helping. I miss being in class but again can't give up.

This is actually insane. I have been using this method subconsciously all through out my school (right from 6th grade to 12th) . In exams, especially English, I did most of the steps mentioned in this video and I for one aced most (if not all) comprehension paragraphs. Glad to hear, this has helped people and myself included because the above case only applied to me for English. About to start college soon, so it has reminded me of the method I used for English and now I'm fully prepared to use it on a conscious level on all upcoming tests, assignments etc. I thank you and the UA-cam algorithm.
Hello GD. THANK YOU for posting a couple of comments. Here's the 'behind the scenes' of this video. I was teaching a small group on how to remember people’s names for my church at one of our local libraries. One of the attendees who brought her daughter, a school-aged child, asked about studying from textbooks. The class was very small and the camera with the mic was close to one student in particular, and that’s why you hear his voice and not the others.
1. Flip through the pages to the end of the chapter. Glance at the pages and see what leaps out and how long the chapter is. 2. Read the quiz or summary at the end of the chapter. This is the stuff the author/s thought was most important. 3. Read the bold and highlighted text through the chapter. These are bullet points of what will be covered and are the important topics. 4. Read the first and last sentence in each paragraph. This will usually be a simple explanation of the paragraph. Read this for exposure to the topic, not comprehension. That comes later. 5. Read the chapter in full.

Here's a tip which helped me score 74/80 in science This technique works So when you're reading the lesson and just blindly making notes ,keep a seperate notebook. Now while reading instead of taking notes, frame questions which come to your mind and also try framing questions just as you are reading,i mean - be atleast a bit curious about the topic and ask yourself questions. Now don't answer them, note them down After reading that particular page or topic ,go back to the questions and answer them Benefits: Firstly it's forces your mind to be curious over stuff And it's increases your ability to answer thereby making it easier for you to get full marks for a particular question in exam And it's pyschologically proven that if you write smt down immediately after learning it ,you remember it for a longer time Trust me this works I Went from 27/80 to 74/80 by this technique And try to understand the concepts instead of blindly reading and taking point

Thank you.

After my first week of uni and not understanding the textbooks I had to read I have been watching videos such as this and here's is what I've learned so far:
HOW TO READ / STUDY TEXTBOOKS
Step 1: Flip through the entire chapter, to get a sense of how long it is and see whatever stands out to you
Step 2: Thoroughly read through the quiz at the end of each section or chapter to gain the understanding of what important questions you should be asking yourself from here on out.
**IMPORTANT: FOR STEPS 3 & 4 YOU ARE READING FOR EXPOSURE TO THE CONTENT, NOT COMPREHENSION**
Step 3: Go to the start of the chapter and read through all of the bold texts throughout the chapter
Step 4: Go back to the start of the chapter and read the first and last sentence of each paragraph.
Watch it, it will help immensely because it was what they think is most important
Hope this helps someone :)
Thank you :)
How to watch this video:
1. Keep skipping 5 seconds till the end
2. Watch the last 15 seconds of the video
3. Watch the first and last 5 seconds of each minute.
4. Now watch the entire video
Remember guys, REPETITION is the mother of learning.

Were you serious abt the last line

Sorry i cant skip 5 seconds only 10 seconds
A lot of people are saying this should be taught in high school, but personally, I believe that this should be taught in sixth grade so that students can effectively learn how to use it so that they understand it when it matters.
ye,i mean it took him only 8 minutes thats amazing
I wish...so that I wouldn't have to figure it out at the age of 18
well im I'm 8th grade thank god I found this

Especially as this is more familiarizing our brain with the content so it’s more efficient at processing it. It wouldn’t require 11 year olds to conceptually understand this practical process in depth, just repeat the steps for more effective learning.

Y'all are boomers :P
I'm glad this was in my recommended page as I am a college student.
Note that we still haven't started reading for comprehension.
Thank you!

I was teaching a small group on how to remember people’s names for my church at one of our local libraries.

Here's a tip which helped me score 74/80 in science
This technique works
So when you're reading the lesson and just blindly making notes ,keep a seperate notebook.
Now while reading instead of taking notes, frame questions which come to your mind and also try framing questions just as you are reading,i mean - be atleast a bit curious about the topic and ask yourself questions. Now don't answer them, note them down
After reading that particular page or topic ,go back to the questions and answer them
Benefits:
Firstly it's forces your mind to be curious over stuff
And it's increases your ability to answer thereby making it easier for you to get full marks for a particular question in exam
And it's pyschologically proven that if you write smt down immediately after learning it ,you remember it for a longer time
Trust me this works
I Went from 27/80 to 74/80 by this technique
And try to understand the concepts instead of blindly reading and taking point

Matt DiMaio, *thank you SO much* for releasing this blessing on UA-cam, now whenever I have a test, I take it on with my head high, and I'm proud to report I'm getting straight and stress-free A's on every one for the past three months. Once again, *THANK YOU!!!*
Hello Silver P E. THANK YOU so much for posting this impressive testimonial. I'm very PROUD of you.
What makes you special is that while many will simply watch a video, you actually APPLY the ideas... and get results! God Bless You.
By the way, you may find these videos also help with your stress level in the future. Especially my short series on Test Taking Tactics.
For preparing for upcoming exams, here is a recent video I published on Cramming For Exams ua-cam.com/video/avLvZrRO8MI/v-deo.html
Also be sure to check out the 3 part series on my channel called TEST TAKING TACTICS. I believe you’ll learn things about how to ACE exams that nobody ever told you before. ua-cam.com/video/Dgwvt8NRbsA/v-deo.html

@@deyvankumar6705 brother, the highlighted sentences which are written in the textbooks.
Vaibhavesh Srivastav does this include highlighted keywords as well?
This is actually a really great method , I used to do this when I was young but only with books & textbooks that interest me. Now I'm trying to find my way back into reading & memorising info while busy and having a lot of books to read.
-Flip Thru each page (a sense of chapter)
- End of chapter - Quiz (Author Thoughts) Imp*

Yes Dinah. In truth, many students seem to ‘stumble’ onto ideas that work for them. My goal in putting together these videos was to collect THE VERY BEST IDEAS. This way you can learn strategies that have been working for other excellent students from around the world.
yeah turns out this is what i was doing all through school: they give me the books, i absorbed them in much the same manner this fellow describes.
You are a true service to humanity. I am reading programming textbooks on my own because I need to better my life and since I have always loved reading I noticed I had implemented some of these techniques. Extremely valuable. Thank you so much.
Hello Nathan. I'm very pleased to be of service to you. Thanks for posting. Hope to see you on my much NEWER content too.
He looks more like a magician than a professor
Hi there Skywalker 26. THANK YOU. That's because the mustache I wear is a similar style to magicians, and old time movie matinee idols. LOL But I do teach a kind of Mental Magic, so it's appropriate.
Thanks for viewing and for posting your comment.
Hope you also check out the link for my Free Report along with the other videos on my channel like my series on Instant Concentration and Test Taking Tactics.
