    Nice car, I just picked up my 2018 Tornado Red DSG Golf R 10 days ago ago and tomorrow I'm doing the Stage 1, 93 octane high torque tune on mine. Since I live in Minnesota I'm surrounded by BP gas stations and they all carry 93. Hoping to get all the APR stage 2+ goodies by the end of the year so I can put them all on for next year. Lol I'm getting married in September and I only have permission to tune my car and tint the windows this year haha. Once the TCU DSG tune comes out later this year hopefully fall I'll do that and hope Santa is good to me 🙏🙏🙏

    315whp with just a chip tune is pretty awesome. I'm guessing VW engineered some wiggle room for handling the power with the upgraded cylinder heads, piston cooling jets and exhaust valves over the GTI. The fact that it has a closed deck inspires some confidence too.

      Rr rr North American cars also come “de-tuned” from the factory with only 292 hp ... where in most of the rest of the world they have 300+hp (~310). And yeah, some of the engine components are built better

      Yes. Remember though, that a Dyno is just a "tuning" tool. They won't ALL measure the same. If the were measured on the factory set-up (just as it was produced) and with this APR tune, it would more likely show a bit higher. If you really want to see what the gains are, then Dyno first on Stock, then flash and Dyno again - that will provide a truer NET value of overall power gain on the same dyno and under the same conditions.

    You know interesting side note here... I own a bone stock 2015 Tiguan, 2.0TSI, FWD.
    I AM AWARE IT IS BY NO MEANS FAST. Lol also aware it is not a MK7 Golf R.
    But there is something about it that is just fun, trust me I have driven faster cars and faster SUV’s but that thing is just a dream to whip around.
    A buddy of mine has an ‘06 Range Rover Sport, and we do little 30 rolls here and there and he always has me for the beginning but I always start reeling him back in, even some “Fast car” owners have said that the feel of that little truck is just fun.
    But stock won’t be stock much longer and your Video helped me make that decision

    80% of 365 is 292. If the dyno is reading 315 wheel and you account for 20% drivetrain loss itd be closer to 395. You would subtract 20% of the crank power to get wheel power not 20% of the wheel power 395 x .80 = 316. Its a little bit weird working backwards.

    Did you have the TCU Flashed as well?
    ***EDIT***
    Disregard....just watched one of your newer posts and you are possibly getting a TCU tune when you go Stage 2.
    I don't think you have an IC yet - don't "cheep" on that one. Stage 1 is great for track, the Stage 2 is just going to add more spin & power w/o connection doesn't equal better time. You know the saying, "Slow is Fast"....

    Well thank you good sir for the 💓. The R is a true beast now since I tuned it on Friday. I Would like you to experience the stage 1 93 octane high torque APR ECU tune I had done on Friday. So far I've beaten a C5 and C6 Corvette, 2015 SRT8 Jeep twice, 6.0 Pontiac GTO, Hyndai Genesis G80, Stage 2+ 2015 GTI twice, Infinity G35, SS Camaro, and a 2017 5.0 GT mustang, and my favorite a 2013 Audi S6 all from a dig. Lol all friends of mine of course on a closed road 😉 if you think the launch control is intense with a stock Golf R then you really need to experience this tune when it launches 0-60 now in about 3.5 seconds. Watched your video about 10 times before I had my 2018 DSG Golf R in Tornado Red delivered to me in my state of Minnesota. This car is so fun now and it's like a whole new car. Can't wait to go stage 2+ thank you and take care and drive safe buddy 😎

      I was going to get Stage 2, but I had to get a new bumper ... so that is delaying things. By myself, I've gotten the car 0-60 in 3.43 seconds which blew me away...So stage 2 is going to be good fun!

    Hi, I just got my new golf R 2018. Only did 2000 km so far, but I'm so in love with APR and I'm considering installing it on my car but I have major concerns if you will be kind to answer me;
    1- Does it reduces life expectancy on the engine/ car?
    2- Does it effect fuel economy?
    3- For a daily driver car, would you recommend a tune or stock?
    4- Can I still service the car at the dealership, I know the warranty will be voided only concerned about the service given that golfs have no history issues and they're very reliable?
    5- Only repeating the first question about milage and life expectancy for the car, also when would be the ideal time to install the tune?

    • @ryan_duffy
      @ryan_duffy  6 років тому +15

      Oh nice, the instrument cluster screen is awesome in the 18's!
      I have about 12K on my '16 Golf R and have about 1K on it with the Tune.
      I think with proper maintenance and servicing, you can still get a lot of time with your engine.
      I do my oil changes every 5K, but the oil is good for 10K. Depending on how you drive, time, etc will depend on how much you want to change it. But keeping that in check will help the longevity. Proper spark plugs too will also help (APR recommends IKH24, gapped to 0.024" ±0.002" when tuning with them). Also, our engines have a threshold for power, etc so most of these tunes (Stage 1/2) generally won't hurt it too much. But with any type of mods, you do assume some risk, but you shouldn't have any issues with engine longevity.
      As for fuel economy, APR on their site says that it does help fuel economy ... but I haven't really seen that. But it hasn't hurt it though - but come one, I mean if you got a tune you are gonna be have fun and not worrying too much about mpg.
      As for compared to stock, I feel like it has enhanced the car and made it easier to daily drive. The OEM feel is still all there, it's like OEM+.
      As for servicing at dealerships, I haven't had much experience besides getting my tune installed. Yes, of course you warranty is gone at that point, but the service shouldn't change. Though if something breaks, they can link it to the tune and then it would be on you to fix whatever the issue might be. But there are plenty of dealerships in my area that are VW-APR dealers ... so places like that expect people to come in to tune, etc and are a little more lenient when it comes to mods. Check your local dealerships / tune shops - APR has a tool on their site to find ones in your area.
      As for tune timing, well thats up to you. I've seen people put in on their cars right away off the dealership lot ... and I've also seen people do it much later. Its really up to you and when you would like to do it. I don't think there really is a bad time, though the older the car the more worried I would be putting the tune on it.
      I'm not really sure if any of this helps, but this is my experience. APR's site as a lot more detailed info into specifics, so I'd check there if you have any more questions. Forums are also a good place to looks for answers / ask questions.
      Hope you enjoyed the video!

      I did apr stage 3 at 40k miles and drove it to 130k miles before I sold it. I never had any problems. If you tune you should cut maintenance intervals in half to oil change every 5k miles instead of 10k and if dsg every 20k miles instead of 40k. That’s what apr told me and that’s what I did. I drove it hard every day and never a check engine light. I also had valves cleaned of carbon every 25k miles or once a year.

    • @jamstersmith4625
      @jamstersmith4625 6 років тому

      Agent K how did they clean your valves? And how much?

    • @agentk4257
      @agentk4257 6 років тому

      Jamster Smith I paid my the performance shop/apr dealer to do it. They charged $300. They make a catch can now that’s supposed to help with carbon build up. Main thing with direct injection is to not let it idle but in winter and summer I like to let my car warmup or cool down before I put the wife and kids in it.

      Nick Paolino I really don’t know the B6 Passat platform. You could check here on APR’s site: www.goapr.com/products/index.php?v=Passat&vg=6
      As you a cat back, you gain some power - but not much that will be noticeable. In turbo cars, you experience more power gains if you get a larger downpipe off the turbo. You’ll get more noise and significant more power. You would need a reflash of their a stage 1 or 2 depending on APR’s B6 requirements

      That's awesome! I would love to see the Stg2 vid when it comes out!
      Quick question. When you did Stg1, did you ever get a DP or catback? If not, why not? Just curious bc I'm trying to decide if I want a catback or not.

      B H I was on the stick exhaust system on stage 1. Any upgrade downpipe requires a new tune. A new cat back exhaust system does not.
      On stage 2, I’m running just the APR downpipe with the stock exhaust system.

      Ryan Duffy he's only jealous of your ride. I'm needing stage 1 and as you said I'd only call the factory power steady. Well mines on 23.000 miles and the clutch has started to slip so I'll be doing that first. What a weak standard clutch.
