  • Andy heads out to tackle a coloured river dove for wild trout. UK river fly fishing can be challenging at any time, but when the water turns coloured and murky things can get really tough! Euro nymphing for trout can be really productive in these conditions, and that's what Andy thinks will work in the muddy water. However, if there's a hatch then dry fly fishing for trout can be deadly too! Enjoy - Catching Trout On Dry Flies In Muddy Water! UK River Fly Fishing - The River Dove

Fished the Churnet last Friday, only a very few Iron blues and small stoneflies; no real hatches, hawthorns but none on the water.....didn't see a single fish move. Geez IB that rod gets quite the arch with a good fish. So is trout season over when this is shot? That Rainbow was stunning! You played it really well.
    Andy I can't remember though you may have, I've seen so many of your competitions. Have you and IB gone and fished a spot each and then simply traded spots after an hour or two? It might be interesting to see how you two cover water.
    When you find one Grayling, does that mean there is a school, feeding or holding in that one spot?
    Where I used to fish Arctic Grayling, they would gather in one area and you might not see another Grayling for a mile or three.
    Great video, thanks for sharing the fun!

    Going to be a good video I know it catching some trout on spinners and can’t seem to catch on the fly

    • @jacobprescott396
      @jacobprescott396 3 роки тому

      This is going to sound daft but I also find that at times as well. If the fly life hasn’t been great on your river lately then trout can turn piscivorous and they will only feed on fish until things start to get better. I’d recommend you keep spinning until you start to see them rising frequently. That way you know that the fish are starting to look upwards. Good luck

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  3 роки тому

      in the early season most of the time there won't be many bugs hatching, so the trout wont sit in feed lines, it's too much effort for not enough reward. Instead they'll sit in eddys or under tree roots or undercut banks. They won't budge for a tiny fly but a meal of minnow, stickleback or fry is worth the effort - that's why spinners and streamers are so effective early in the season. Once there bugs start moving around you'll find more trout in feed lines

    A great video Andy so thank you for all this information and sincere apologies for the ridiculously waffling phone message I left you asking about casting with your drift XL. I went for the 4 weight with quite a delicate line to match and just don’t seem able to make a short cast with it, perhaps it’s the extra length of the rod I’m not used to, maybe I’d be better off sticking a five weight line on, or maybe it’s just that because I have a wrist injury I can’t add any oomph to my casting. Either way I can’t seem to get a decent cast unless I get lots of line out and then it’s still something of a challenge…I’m not expecting you to solve my problems or necessarily know the answer but I just wondered because apart from me going 4 weight instead of your 3 weight I think you’ve been fishing the same set up. Thanks again John

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Hi John, just listened to your VM, had me cracking up 😂😂😂 In terms of the rod, I personally would have either gone for the #3 rod or I'd be over lining for fishing comfortably at shorter distances. The big thing I find though is rod arc - remember with the rod being longer the tip is moving further than you are used to. Almost all fly casters would be better casters for shortening the rod arc and lengthening the pauses between casts. Have a play with really shortening your stroke, you might find things start to work....
