  • Well, we are back. New decade, new year, fresh start. And phew, I have really missed you :,) This is part 1 of a 3-part series where I sit down, unfiltered, and open up conversation on all the various topics that I have previously been too nervous to candidly discuss. Thank you for being here and supporting me as I grow, change, evolve and figure out what feels healthiest and most helpful to everyone viewing as well. The next two episodes are with Jordy, and I dive into even more vulnerable topics (while a lil tipsy). Welcome to what I am tentatively calling "Michel After Hours" - curious to know if y'all like this concept enough to extend it beyond these initial three episodes? Anywhooooo, I will stop overly explaining and just let you watch and decide for yourselves. ;-) I really really really appreciate you being here. From me (a human) to you (a human), I am grateful for you. Thank you.

Michel: what if someone on your team is the only person in your DMs and comment section? What if you don’t engage there at all. Create a private IG and only follow your IRL people. Your team can respond for you & relay any messages from the “business” account that would be helpful without you being the filter.
I would love to see a fully let loose, unfiltered Michel but I wouldn’t want to see you hyper fixated on the responses to it. Sending so much love- you’re amazing at your job and we are here no matter the path you choose ❤

I agree, I think we were expecting more vulnerability in these videos, especially after a break to reflect. The interview felt similar to pre-break conversations, we WANT to see you grow and change Michel, it's why many of us are here, we're waiting in the wings for you to show that! I agree that someone on her team can review comments - heck, even an AI can do it these days!

I’m betting the majority of your regular viewers enjoyed this video and even devoured every word. For them I am happy.
During my decades on earth I’ve learned that not every feeling and thought NEEDS to be shared and most of the time this oversharing comes across as self-indulgent and banal.
Perhaps it’s this format of “interviewer and guest.” I found this to be too long, too self-reflective and superfluous.
I watch your channel to see snippets of your day to day life, not to listen to your analysis of every thought and feeling. This video was over the top in that an hour devoted to talking about yourself is not enjoyable nor entertaining. How do your words improve the lives of your viewers may be a good to consider. Maybe this examination of your feelings is pertinent to your self-understanding but useful with a qualified therapist not a UA-cam audience.
I kept listening but as I did I had to ask myself what significance does this have for me or anyone else other than yourself?
I realize that your regular viewers will jump all over this comment and maybe you’ll remove it. Because it’s just my opinion and who cares really? But if your goal is to keep relevant as a UA-camr, it’s probably a smart idea to offer relevant content.
This is your channel and present what you will as it’s your right. I’m offering my perspective on THIS video. As you asked in this video, it is not a format I’m interested in viewing. Day to day activities in a shorter time format appeal to me as a current viewer.
    Thank you for reading!

I can see your viewpoint but I think the beauty of YT is that creators can make content that doesn’t follow the same formula every single time. For me, I thoroughly enjoyed this long-form content and introspective discussion with Elise. It felt very balanced with Elise offering insight and thoughts rather than a one-sided, Michel-only monologue. It felt like hanging out with two friends of mine. I don’t know who you expect to “jump on you” over your comment but that is not this.

    • @Mayapapaya123
      @Mayapapaya123 4 дні тому +3

@@karengurske I totally agree with you. Yes, of course it was a lot about Michel's personal experiences as a content creator, but I felt that making it a back and forth with Elise really made it broader than that. I personally do a lot of "self-editing" in my personal life eventhough I don't have a social media presence at all. So I can definitely relate to a certain extent and I assume I'm not the only one.
That said, I don't believe content always needs to be relatable to be valuable. I think hearing all kinds of different experiences that differ from our own (this includes perspectives from both more priviliged and less priviliged individuals) actually makes us more empathetic and understanding people. In that sense I think sharing her experience in this way can definitely add value to the lives of her viewers(maybe not all of them, but I think that's normal and okay). It did to mine as it made me think about the things I personally want to work on and be more open about and also about what might be going on behind the scenes for people whose content I consume.

Alyse has such a wonderful infectious energy and I loved being a fly on the wall for this authentic conversation. I'm a 50-year-old, married woman with college-aged daughter's, and I first discovered you through your divorce video, that was randomly suggested to me just before you introduced Jordy so I immediately followed you from what I can only imagine was your lowest lows, straight to your highest highs. I'm truly here for everything in between. I grew up in the church, but I stopped attending five years ago with the defiant attitude of my local church around COVID and the recent rise of Christian Nationalism. Over the past year, God has really been working on my heart to bring me closer to Him, but I'm still struggling to sort through all the past hurt and sin I see all around me from those who claim to be Christians. We're all imperfect and on a journey. Thank you for being so open--It's encouraging to a much wider audience than you may think. 💗

OMG!!! THIS is the michel that i have been waiting for 🩵 as a girly in her early 30s, who was sheltered and went through a lot of trauma--i see a lot of myself in you. i have been a online friend of yours for a few years now. to see the evolution of michel has been beautiful. you are right on track. yes, i've seen and felt you censor yourself online. i don't think you've ever been not yourself, but also you haven't fully shown us all of who you are. and you deserve that. forget about us, DO YOU. do what feels good for YOU. you are more than allowed to bring all of who you are to the table. you are enough. if people don't like it, they can leave. those of us who love you in every iteration will stay and continue to love you, and cheer you on. it can be a little scary getting out of one's comfort zone. it can be scary for those of us who stay in our place. but you know what? fuck that. because on the other side is so much more and we owe it to ourselves to find out what that is.
oh, michel. my heart is absolutely bursting with so much love and pride for you. i know this is scary to let yourself fly like this and be unfiltered, as you say. but i've been waiting for this day. so glad it has finally arrived. do not allow yourself, nor anyone else, to put you back into a box where you feel you cannot be truly and authentically yourself in all ways. you are allowed to be human. you are allowed to show up and take up space as you are. no need to water yourself down. if you feel the need to do that in order to please people, those people are NOT for you.
and as a girly who no longer identifies as christian (but still believes in god and has her own spiritual beliefs), i have never once felt alienated by you. i have always felt welcomed on your platforms. you remind me of a dear friend of mine who passed away a few years ago. she had a home church (literally church in her home). her husband and family were so welcoming. we had atheists, mormons, people from all walks of life. we had community. at the end of the day, that's all my heart was searching for. that place doesn't exist since she passed away, but that time in my life i cherish greatly. you remind me so much of my dear cortland. your heart is beautiful. never let anyone dim it for any reason. more importantly, don't allow yourself to dim your own light. do not put these videos out and go back to watering yourself down because it seems "safer". be you. authentically. unapologetically. be you.
i love you so much and am always cheering you on. love + hugs 🩵

Sometimes people talk about themselves, not sure why you think that’s such a terrible thing. No one said you had to watch it if you don’t enjoy the format and don’t want to get to know Michel more. Those of us who genuinely care about her enjoyed hearing her share.
Many of us are here because we love watching Michel in general, and we love getting to know her more, which is what this video is. It’s okay if you are not a loyal follower, and if you don’t really care about knowing who she is as a person, but I don’t think it was necessary for you to bring in negativity and be rude. That is something that someone with issues does, so telling her you hope she figures out her issues ought to be directed back at yourself, since you are the one who feels the need to be unpleasant.

The talk about how bad things are desired by the algorithm is a major reason why family vlogging has become so dangerous. There are an unreal amount of family vloggers who have started causing harm to their children for the algorithm. It’s terrifying knowing that is what feeds it. Man I wish there was a way we could all take a stand against the algorithm machine saying NO we want to see the good! I’m way to much of a boomer to truly understand how any of it works, but I definitely see an absolute disgusting pattern that confirms the existence of bad/scary/tragic events “sacrificing” life experiences to get paid the highest amounts as a content creator. This is absolutely not a comment about you or your content. I’m talking specifically about children not getting to be just that because big paydays surround them usually without them having a clue what’s going on. They trust the adults to protect & guide them safely on their journey. Just some thoughts I had as you talked about the algorithm in regard to how it affects your thoughts & actions being a fully informed consenting adult. To put it simply it’s scary territory we’ve entered & hidden explosives are everywhere. I hope that we are all just doing our best. When we know better we do better. Good conversation Michel!

She mentioned twice in this video that she feels lucky to have her job as a content creator but that it can be challenging at times due to X, Y, Z valid reasons. And that she wanted to preface her thoughts by noting and reassuring everyone watching this video that she doesn’t dislike her job, so that no one would jump to conclusions about how she feels about any of it just because she is acknowledging the difficult or uncomfortable parts of it. I think it’s very possible for people to like something and also find it challenging at times.

I also found you through your divorce story videos and I stayed because I loved watching you evolve and I loved how much you loved people of all faiths!! I was so badly burned by christians as a kid that I don't have a single christian person in my life anymore. Your videos are the only source of christianity that I am exposed to, which I'm cool with because I love how much you clearly embody the best parts of christianity. I love how real you are in this!! I'm very much open to more goofy, real and fun Michel ❤

I relate a lot to this! As a creator who made content on the internet for over a decade, I chose to kind of disappear after my divorce and it’s been 3 years now and there’s so much more peace off the internet now so I can’t picture myself ever becoming a full time creator again! Also, your 30s are the time you’ll really grow and become even more of yourself! It’s quite freeing when you can just be yourself! Even when it makes a lot of your Christian audience upset. I’ve been there. I rebuilt a new audience when I deconstructed publicly! Love your videos ❤

To the people who are not Christian (I myself am no longer a practicing Catholic), I think you've very clearly expressed that you can understand some of our pain. Your divorce journey was complex, and you did a great job of expressing how you occasionally felt judged by "your tribe" for that experience and your choices surrounding it. You are one of the few openly Christian creators that I follow because I trust you to listen to outside voices as well as the ones that have already shaped you.

Hi Michel! I just finished listening and have to say I love this relaxed podcast format! But, I love all the different videos you do, so that’s not surprising, haha! You are so genuine, and I really appreciate your heart, your character, your personality, and your approach to life. I discovered your channel four years ago through the wedding video you did with Jamie Wolfer. I liked you so much as a person that I went back to watch all your videos from oldest to newest. I have so enjoyed you sharing your journey with us, and I’m so happy that you made it through the dark times to find happiness with Jordie. I celebrate every win, and it brings me such joy to see you thriving. You are an inspiration to me to continue to become a better wife, daughter and friend to the people in my own life. Thank you for being a light.

Glad to see you back Michel! I hope you're still enjoying your time off. I heard someone say once that great songwriters get famous singing songs about everyday life that people can relate to, and then because they become famous they write songs about being famous that are hard to relate to. That's kind of what this was for me. I am a big fan of you and your content and will certainly continue watching, but the ins and outs and meta-analysis of being a content creator are not for me - probably also because I'm an elder millennial and I don't live my life online that much (no Instagram, Facebook, etc) so the idea that we're "all performing" does not resonate. Not saying this isn't a valuable conversation for some people - and I want to emphasize that I think your feelings are valid and this is absolutely not about you not being allowed to have complaints - but a UA-cam channel about UA-cam channels is not why I follow you. You should definitely do what is fulfilling for you but since you asked for feedback, that's how I feel personally.

Wooohoo, we missed you!! Thanks for including us in this conversation :) It's awesome to see you think out loud and evolve in real time-- that's a huge part of what I love about you and your channel! **potentially critical feedback so please ignore if unhelpful---
I'm not at all religious (but a creative, so faithful in my own right) but your faith has never felt off-putting or isolating as a viewer in any way. I know you don't talk about it much on here for a million reasons, and respect however you choose to move forward on that front. One thing I'll say though is that especially in this very moment, I think I might find it off-putting if a more in-depth expression/exploration of faith lacked any application or consideration of our politics right now. While I don't think conservatism and christianity are synonymous or alwys intextricably linked, I think they are undeniably so now. I know you hesitate to touch politics/ don't necessarily consider them central to your life, but politcs is quite literally a matter of life and death right now, and not only do I think it's necessary to acknowledge the use of faith as justification for political/economic beliefs right now, I also think there's very obviously a humanitarian and environmental global crisis right now so to talk about religion without acknowledging the denial of rights to religious spaces for certain groups (noncitizens, trans people, etc) would feel weird imo

Michel, I've been a silent consumer of your content for many years now and I have to say, you are so incredibly mature, bright and full of grace. While you may have your dream job, this speaks volumes about the responsibility and pitfalls of being a public persona. It can't be easy but I definitely do not put you in the same bucket in my mind as other influencers. You're different than a lot of online content creators and THAT is why you will have a longstanding community here :)

I love unfiltered Michel and seeing how much more free and bubbly you have been. I don't know why people feel a need to be so harsh towards each other. I choose to surround myself (including online friends and vloggers!) With people who make me feel good. Michel, your divorce content drew me in because it was so relatable at the time that I found it. I continued to watch your videos and loved many but…admittedly, I also skipped many after only a couple minutes because I wanted to relate but couldn’t. That’s just how the internet works, though. We all skip videos sometimes, and I still love you!
I would like to say, though, that I have been clinging to your channel waiting for more real talk because I know you have real, raw things to say, especially after the unhealthy marriage you endured. IYKYK. You and I are both now in healthy relationships that are literally the opposite of what our marriages were like, and I know I personally am not always okay. The trauma is still very real. I kind of hoped you would post some content when you are not okay, too, so this video gets 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up from me!
Please continue to post real talk, even if it is just dabbled in to your usual content. I truly appreciate it. It makes me feel normal for feeling the way I feel! ❤

    Stream of consciousness while watching:
    1. Welcome back, Michel! Hi Alyse!
    2. Most people who are really into their careers feel this same way about detaching: It takes a longer vacation to get out of the working mindset.
    3. IMHO, your videos about traumatic events do better because you use tags about the trauma. People tend to search for videos when they're experiencing these same issues. It's not about celebrating your trauma. 💜
    4. Anyone who has watched even a couple of your videos knows that you'd never intentionally offend anyone.
    5. As a person who was raised catholic and is currently agnostic, I can tell you that I personally approve of how well you "walk the walk", without pushing rhetoric.
    6. "It's hard to hate someone close up." is such a powerful thought.

Silence doesn't say 'everything' like people always say! The only thing it reveals are what THEY are reading into your silence and that is a very dangerous and arrogant thing to pretend you know about someone. I remember people asking why I hadn't posted about something and saying the same thing, and it was literally because I had PTSD (real PTSD not instagram PTSD) and could barely be online without panicking, I could not function. But of course no one gives you the benefit of the doubt, they assume the worst.

Battling with the coorporate world I find you so incredibly Intreauging. Some of your comments saddened me. I don't watch UA-cam to hear all of that crap, lol - I want to escape it personally. Now, in your situation, the wildfires are absolutely relevant. So I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't comment on the wildfires (or anything that is close to home/ directly impacts you), but I do wish UA-camrs didn't comment on every thing going on in the world. What sucks about the internet nowadays is that the people of the internet listen to respond, not to understand. I was guilty of that as well throughout the years and ever since I heard that quote I’ve been listening to understand. I’ve been watching you for a long time and you definitely are the sweetest person ever. I haven’t met you in person but I feel like you are the same on and off the screen. I do feel like you haven’t been yourself in a while and I feel like this is why you are here now sharing this video and the next two. You miss being yourself? Please share yourself and don’t hide. You really can’t focus on the people that aren’t trying to understand you but just respond to every little thing in a negative way. I truly love your content and I love your quirky, funny side and I miss that Michel. But she’s slowly coming back. If you need to take time off, do it. I’ve been taking time off social media and it really feels so good and I really don’t miss it when I’m being present in other things. Can’t wait for the other episodes. ❤

As for sharing, that has to be based 100% on the line with which you are comfortable, and that should be respected. It is YOUR life. As for people getting upset with things, you can't live by that. We all see that there are many people who spend every single day desperately seeking things to bash, judge or complain about online. They will find anything to nit-pick, or twist anything to lash out and feel better about themselves due to their own misery. Anyone who stalks a creator's home has NO life and is pathetic. You can't pay any attention to those kinds. They rest of the world doesn't. You are an intelligent, talented and very kind woman. Just be you. You can't live by the actions or reactions of others, and honestly, showing you don't change for others or allow others to bring you down with their own issues is being a wonderful role model for all the young women who watch you. ❤❤ I hope your time off have been wonderful! You deserve it!

I have taken your advice on so many things like books, supplements, things to do, and even just your words of encouragement. It all has helped. I appreciate you being you. You do more good than you think. No matter what we do as humans, we are going to upset people, and it is what it is. We can't change that because we dont have control over that. Really appreciate the honesty of this video, I wanted to just make a small note on the topic of religion...I am personally not religious and do love to surround myself with all types of people religious or not. But, when talking about the topic of "opinions" and still being able to have different views and be friends, I have noticed my friends that are religious tend to have that perspective more so than my friends that are not religious. I don't mean to generalize but in my personal circle that is true, and I will say there are aspects of that that I do agree with, but the problem I tend to see is on certain topics, to me if your opinion is in any way limiting and/or hurting or hateful, then I don't think that's an opinion we can differ on. Like you said, all religious people are different, but I do find it interesting that that rhetoric, at least in my personal life always comes from religious people and I think what makes it a challenge is I'm not sure what they mean by that phrase. To me, the difference of opinion is more so a difference in how to solve something or go about something with compassion and best intentions, not if it exists if that makes sense. I have friends who will say things like "I don't agree with gay marriage" and to me, that's not really an opinion to disagree on, that's limiting people and saying their wrong for wanting to be married to the person they love and how do you be friends with people who fundamentally want to put down or limit people when that thing they want isn't harming anyone? Again, I don't mean to generalize but that's been my experience. Also, I think when people say, "I don't want to get political" Or "companies don't have to so why do I have to explain my opinions" I feel like that's a little bit of avoidant behavior, I'm not saying anyone needs to be screaming their views from the roof, but life is political, money is political and the world is political and we can't just pretend it isn't. Where we spend our money, the music we listen to the people and businesses we support, if they support things again that limit or harm others, to me, we should always be holding them accountable and working towards a better understanding. For us to even be able to "take a break" when so many cannot is a massive privilege and I say that not to create guilt or blame but just to acknowledge how many communities live in a world where they cannot take a break from politics. I hope you don't take this in a mean way, just a perspective I have and thought may be something to think about as you're going through this journey, I love talking about different perspectives and ideas with my friends and learning new things along the way. Sending much love ❤

I watched an old video assumption video back in your past relationship and you spoke about how you share/ don’t share your Christianity the one where you got pretty upset about the politics question. I totally appreciated what you said back then about how you share. To me you are Michel first being a Christian is part of you. I’m a Christian but a UK one and I feel Americans are so much more hard and fast and often take views that aren’t true my biblical at the core. You said back then something I loved!!! Jesus said love everyone that is our role as Christians he did his part we aren’t here to condemn or judge we are here to love thy neighbour and do unto others as we would have them do un to us. I love hearing you share your faith but I appreciate it’s not your entire personality here and I think that shows those who are Christian curious that not every Christian is out there judging and looking down their nose at people you having differing opinions xx

You’ve had to do so much by yourself, it’s nice to see you in a back-and-forth conversation!
Mel Robbins had a great guest on today about people-pleasing, not listening to your body and chronic immune issues! Recommend!

Love this! I’ve also been doing a social media/phone detox and it’s actually wild how quickly my brain got out of the need for the instant dopamine hits! Twenty twenty thrive definitely is the year to be more present and get back to enjoying life instead of just watching it for me 💜 Great video, would definitely watch/listen to more 😊

I don’t know if this is helpful but people do go through similar emotions when at work. They’re careful and exacting in what they say for similar reasons to ensure they come across well. They’re also not always present in their personal lives depending on how stressful their job is. It’s not the same for sure as it’s only to a small number of people who don’t direct their negativity at you. But I find it personally helpful to know that lots of people feel these emotions in different ways.

Michel, I think the Christian thing will always be hard, especially in the US where a lot of people have suffered religious trauma (ex-Mormons, other people from high demand religions where control is not something people have available to them or the luxury of.) I think you should continue being you and don't let other people tell you what kind of Christian (or human being) you are. Have a look at some of the Mormon Stories Podcast episodes and see how differently people who have come out of Mormonism have reconstructed their lives after deconstruction. I think you'll find it similar to the way you reconstructed your life post divorce and how differently you look at the world now you're in a safe place.
I have noticed a huge change in you and you became a much healthier person to watch once you left LA (physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.) I have a daughter the same age as you who has been through some major struggles and then found happiness in the past four years. I think I found your channel in 2020 and was subscribed for a long time until my daughter's struggles were mirrored in yours and it was just too hard. By the way, your experiences have been so different but the emotional and physical fallout was similar. I unsubscribed for a while then the algorithm pushed your content back at me so I gave it another go and it was just after you moved back to Texas. Almost immediately, I could see you had a more genuine way of being in your body and your soul. I knew people were going to have a go when you started dating Jordy but look where you are now. I have been resubscribed for almost two years I think.
I love this taking back more control era for you. I also respect your need for privacy and I think you should do what makes you happy. Block anyone who makes you feel unworthy because you are not or use the filter where any comments using filtered words go to review and then either delete them or have Jordy look at them before you do.
I also love tipsy Michel. Take care sweet girl. You are a person, not a product.

I love love love this set up and just the atmosphere, you are both so natural together! Elise is also a natural at interviewing, and just knowing when to give thoughts/anecdotes but also when to listen and take in. Love the after hours vibe, this felt so authentic and again natural. Just a big old love this ❤️

Thank you for your authenticity. I love this unfiltered journey that you are on, the questions the wrestling. It's all good. So excited for the journey.
In response to sharing your faith, as a Christian (I say this with pure love, no criticism) I was always sad that one of my favourite content creators didn't share their faith, and knowing now that you felt scared to do so. In my experience there is a lot of grace when it comes to different beliefs, and I have friends who are also christians who I don't agree with, but it doesn't mean that I can't be friends with them, and the same goes for non christian friends too.
I would love to hear more about this side of you. That being said, I am one human on the other side of the world and my opinion doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things.
Can't wait for this new era!!!
