I'm a third of the way through this book. Very worth reading. Not only is it the life of a well-known intellectual, it is full of self reckoning. Loury knows when he was treacherous and when his decisions were wrong, wrong, wrong. Go Glenn.

I just finished the book 5/24/24…much could be said and I wish I had my kindle notes to help me quote some of what struck me…but especially the line where Glenn says he cannot be defined by his race, profession, marital status, nascent-now former “Christianity” label etc…I for one prays he will trade in his “master of the universe” for the one & only Creator. If he’d truly realize he is made in the image of his Creator and stop allowing pride, intellect, insecurity & culture influence him he’d find the identity he truly longs for…he, like any creature, needs an anchor, accountability, and the ability to say yes to the one who created & gifted him.

This is definitely a book I will take in via audio. Glenn definitely lived through titanic social changes. I do not think it wrong to place him next to or near Ben Franklin. As Mark Twain noted, what Ben did to any youth following him, was grossly unfair.
Very few human beings live at the statistically impossible Six Sigma level. The physical end is entertaining to watch. But the mental end is oft beyond our ability to comprehend. Unlike the bleating of mentally undeveloped athletes.
Well to remember, no matter what the 6s VDH claims, Ben Franklin was not a dieist. Although I have not heard him make that basic mistake in a while.
We were not Hellens. Unlike the brilliant accomplished primitive John McW, 6s people are still just human beings. The human intellect alone does not lift us to touch the face of the Divine.
(Why all that academic religion of the One shriveled away. Until a to-clever by half-screen writer brings it back)There is something more wonderful beyond us. Even if it were just the better/best angels of humanity's mental reality. Our Constitution and Refounding are the Fruit of this choice. Capital P on us, their Posterity.
So far this little bit is covered by PhD Sowell. So I am looking forward to taking in; fully, what Glenn believes we need to know.
Like Ben Franklin's autobiography. Yes, Ben's little mind puzzle about self-improvement is a masterpiece. Which is why it was mandatory in our public school phase. No banished in the Hellenist/progressive government phase. We are regressing to a very primitive state of reality.
Yea, Shakespeare really is that mind-blowing good. Is our dear Elder the American Othello, who survived to inform us? MadWho bets so! ;)
