Congrats on the 5k!
Looking forward to more videos!
Thanks Blake! More to come!
Congrats on the 5K Michael! Always enjoy your hunting videos & helpful product reviews! It’s always great knowing you’re just a text away in case I have a question!! Merry Christmas to you & family! Hoping to get a full review on VX981 soon!!
Thanks Robby! Call/text anytime...you've been great inspiration on the new series! Looking forward to your feedback on the 981. Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well!
Congrats on 5K. Another Great video.Merry Christmas Bud.
Thanks Foy! Merry Christmas!
Excellent informative video as usually Michael coming at the perfect time. It's time for me to upgrade and I'm liking thre 770/870 upgrade option from my even lower level Panasonic V100 series. Thanks for the video
Great info Michael. Congrats on 5k subs. I just started self filming this year and while I haven't gotten anything yet, I'm learning something new every time I film i.e. camera angles, knowing my camera settings, lighting, audio, b role, and trying to stay stealthy while making adjustments to the camera. Thanks for the video. Merry Christmas everyone.
TBH: MasterOfNothing
Master Ofnothing Awesome! Keep at it. Looking forward to your success. What camera are you using now?
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH cell phone camera, go pro hero 3+, Canon vixia rf800
Congratulations on 5k
I film my hunts for my channel with a GoPro hero 5 and a Canon vixa 800 low light is not great but at the price point I'm happy with it but going to try to upgrade this spring
Thanks Big John! The equipment is always less important than the story and the desire to tell it (or show it!) Merry Christmas, buddy!
Very very helpful! Video is just what i was looking for. I watched the other video first and was sold on this camera and after watching this one with all your info, I’ll be purchasing this camera. I Subscribe and will be looking forward to following you. Thanks alot
Awesome! Thank you so much for the feedback. I still plan to do some followups on these videos that are geared toward how to self film hunts. I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Yup, kudos on 5k but hope you get into five digits in 2020. Really enjoy your equipment reviews and Texas family/friend hunting and events.
Thanks Alan! I appreciate the positive feedback and well wishes! That's a lofty goal...but I hope you're right! ;)
Have a blessed Christmas as well! Can't wait to see more cdlc and what I look like in the green cap! Lol
God is great, 2020 will bring greatness upon all of us!
Amen! Thanks!
Great video as always Michael!
Thanks Staley!
Another informative video Michael. I haven't gotten into filming hunts yet, seems addictive. Those are good looking caps, hopefully you'll have them at bownanza, if I don't win one here.
Shane Hesterley I’m sure the Mayor will bring some! Thanks Shane!
Very helpful information!! Thank you!!
I’m glad it was useful for you! Thanks for the feedback!
Great vid Mike. HC V-770 is exactly what I've been using.
Strix Outdoors That’s awesome, Jesse! Great little camera! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Your welcome Mike and congrats on 5k subs.
Awesome video bro
Thank you Dawson!
870 was my first the 981 is what I have now best out there and light-weight
what is the difference between the 2? I can't find any info about it anywhere
They are very similar. @wnyprepper may be able to elaborate more, since he has used both, but there don’t seem to be any appreciable differences in specs. I bought a second 870 (used) for my daughters to use.
Check B&H website for detailed specs for each.
Thanks Mike. A good review and confirmed my choice to get the Panasonic. No UA-cam Channel for hunting yet.
Stacey P thanks Stacey! Did you already buy the cam?
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH not yet. December money is for others gifts. My birthday is in February 😉
Do some of the less expensive camcorders work with remote controls? How do you zoom/do other things if there is no lanc remote?
You make way to good of videos to only have 7k keep it up
Great feet hitting 5000! I just started getting into videoing my hunts seriously in the last year or so. I've been using a go pro, or my phone starting out. This year I'm feeling more confident in my videos and would like to upgrade to a better setup. Your video here has helped alot! With that being said, I'm still debating between the DSLR or this cam corder? I'd really want to do photos to so idk?? Anyway if you could give my channel a look and give me some guidance that would be awsome! " THE PUBLICS EYE OUTDOORS " Thanks for the help!
That’s so awesome congrats on 5k! My channel is Ethan’s Outdoors hoping to grow it. I’m in love with videography and photography filming the hunt and this video was very useful and a great starting point. Appreciate your efforts and the great content!
In that case, is the X1500/X2000/CX10 worth it for all the manual options but bulkier build if you just use for document your life, zoom in for further details and UA-cam since some say the auto is good enough? The build in ND is nice tho, are those midrange with a bit of manual better? But 4K 60fps only on these models, the full HD model can zoom further tho but there is tele, ultrawide and macro adaptor for these models. Will there be successors to these models in the coming CES 2024? Yeah I have a UA-cam channel, NETVO TV!
Are those cameras compatible with a varizoom remote
Congrats on 5k bud!
Thanks Aaron! Onward and upward!
Can you put external mic on vx 981?
Be sure to post a comment and subscribe to be eligible to win a TBH Patch cap!
Enjoyed to video. I picked up a HC V770 1080 a few weeks ago after watching this. What is your specific led light setup for nighttime LayDown Video interviews? Thanks - Jay (Rambow @ TBH)
Hey Jay! There are several small LCD panel lights for under $100 that work well. I have an Aputure Amaran M9 that I've used for many years. Aputure also has an Amaran MC- RGB version that is great.
Thank you. I found it on Amazon. What do you use to have both the light & external mic mounted on top of the video camera at same time?
J Slot I typically run the mic on the camera shoe and find a place off camera to mount the light. The MC has a built in magnet, but I stuck a magnet on my M9 and have mounted it to a feeder leg, pickup bumper, etc. A small tripod or Dinkum Action Pod also works for off camera mounting. You could also buy an adapter that has two cold shoe mounts. www.amazon.com/dp/B01838HQ02/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_btf_t1_PbKuFbTH43NAF
Perfect! I have an older lesser quality tripod I can dedicate to the light. Thanks you again. I posted up a video that I made last week. It’s on TBH all about video, using the camera that you recommended.
Just subscribed Michael. Excellent stuff. I'm a newbie having just recently started my youtube channel " Farm and Ranch Life" and I look forward to learning from your experience. I'm currently using a Canon XA 30 with Manfretto tripod with fluid head. Now to learn how to make youtube work. Thanks
I want the GREEN ONE FOR THE GREENSCREEN!!
Reel_life_Roland that’s a pretty cool one! Good luck!
If you were to shoot a firearm from a ground blind or Treestand, would the shot damage the internal microphone or an external microphone?
I don't think so. The audio file will clip, but it shouldn't cause damage to the mic. I did a quick google search which seems to verify this, as well.
How about this camera compared to a Sony ax43 or 53?
Sorry for the delay. I haven't specifically compared the brands. However, the concepts of which features are important are still applicable.
is there a lens I can buy for low light
Not for this camera, as it's not an interchangeable lens camera. With a DSLR or mirrorless, you can buy "faster" lenses with wide aperture that will perform better in low light.
A suggestion would be more frequent videos.
That will be a goal for 2020. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
Does anyone know how to change record limit?
Which camera do you have and what is your limit? I don’t recall ever having issues with the VC870.
@@MichaelMiddletonTBH first of all thanks for your speedy reply. I subscribed and liked the video. Second. I figured it out. It’s was the SD card. I recently upgraded to this camcorder and the SD card couldn’t handle it
Glad you got it figured out! Thanks for the like and sub!
Thank you for the knowledge!!! I do not have a youtube channel or video platform set up yet. But I do have an outdoor page started on Instagram @Outdoor_enthusiast_wi
I am 19, I've been hunting since I was maybe 10 or 11 and I after an awesome hunting experience last year, with my biggest buck, I am really interested in started to film my hunts and self film those experiences. I don't have a goPro or Panasonic, I have a tight budget and am highly interested in getting a first cam, maybe one like the Panasonic and a gopro like camera.
Hey Tristan! That's great! Don't be afraid to start "small" and work up as your budget allows. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to look at the used market, as long as you can either take a look at the camera or have a return option if it's not as advertised. You can probably get a suitable camera for a couple hundred dollars. There are a number of "cheap" action cams that will work. Again, maybe even see if you can pick up a used Hero 6, 7 or even 8 on the cheap. Keep me posted on your progress! Good luck!
