Jamie's been prisoner, sitting in mud for weeks, maybe months, he wasnt exactly in peak condition for the Brienne fight.
A shame they made this battle this way in the show, in the books he beats her barely.

yea, I was just focused on how she couldn't hurt Jaimie because she was suppose to escort him unharmed. I was honestly just surprised he lost at all considering he beat the one guy to death when he was imprisoned. hard fight to judge when both cant fight at 100%. Big Brienne put some weight behind them swings tho 😂

@@okdude8215It's the other way around in the books. She does beat him but only because he's malnourished, been chained etc. She acknowledges to herself later that she barely beat him, even when he's not at peak condition.

I never understood why people sympathized w/ Cat. Yes terrible what Ned “did” but what she did to Jon will affect him his entire life. I’ve had a step parent treat me terrible… what she did to Jon to me is not what a good person would do… YET… she forgave Ned & loved him … but Jon was a dog to her . Hate Cat

To ignore Jon is one thing but Cat seemed to go out of her way to ensure Jon knew he was hated in that household. Nvm taking Tyrion, releasing Jamie or insinuating that her daughters lives were somehow more important than the lives of the men fight or the war altogether, they way she treated Jon is the reason I can’t stand this character. She can cry her crocodile tears somewhere else.

Every word by Maergery in her convvo with Geoffrey was a first class manipulation! She played the game the second she entered the room. Lies, twisted truths...brilliant! Sansa told her about his sadism and Marg played into it. How else to survive that freak?

@brofst Oh, I absolutely support her game! She's (in the show) both skilled and least toxic player! Renly didn't abuse her, but she made the claim not because she expected sympathy from this psycho but to tingle his perverse curiosity AND to appear totally submissive. The script here is awesome.

32:25 This guy from brotherhood is Thoros of Myr. You actually have heard of him before. He was mentioned in histories and lore of s2. While Greyjoy rebellion "he was the first one to the bridge with his ridiculouse flaming sword" as said probably Theon in it. Also Jory Cassel (Ned's commander of guard) while talking with Jaimie about the Greyjoy rebellion mentioned that he will never forget Thoros who was fighting with flaming sword.
In the books they explain Jaimie had been locked/starved in a small cell for months so he lost most of his muscle, also his hands were tied together. So it wasn’t a clean win

I think "Dark Wings, Dark Words" is a phrase often used in Westeros because if a message is urgent enough to send a raven (faster), it is probably bad news.
It's a saying that is very old. I'd heard it before the show. Instead of passing notes through correspondence very important messages that needed answers ASAP were sent by pigeon. Often it was word of sickness or war. Dark wings bring dark words

In the books, jon is a warg too and sometimes has "wolf dreams" same as bran. they even communicated once, jon through ghost and bran through a heart tree. Thats one of the reasons wildlings took him... Idk why they removed that whole plotline from the show

(If you remember, it was she who suggested to Renly that she "turn over and pretend to be [Loras]"- irrespective of whether he actually came back drunk and said yes to it off camera, as she suggests.) Indeed, it's necessary that she must: if Joffrey was prejudiced against Sansa because she's a Stark, his suspicion of Margery is potentially doubled: he'll have known from infancy that the Tyrells took the side of the Mad King when Robert rebelled, quite aside from Margery's wedding to Renly. She has to make herself seem unquestioning ("to do the duty of any wife") and naive ("perhaps the fault lay with me") and to hint at a slight inkling, if not direct knowledge, of Renly's homosexuality to avoid seeming like damaged goods to her new fiancé. In doing this and making Joffrey think he reached the conclusion of her innocence and purity all by himself, quite aside from getting him to demonstrate his knowledge with a crossbow as if she's never seen one before, he comes to believe that he has completely got the measure of her- when of course the truth is the exact opposite.
It is no coincidence that the scene starts with Joffrey pointing the crossbow at Margery and ends with the crossbow in Margery's hands, with Joffrey simpering at the prospect of her killing something with it.
Jamie lost but he was starved for weeks, and his hands were restrained. Brienne is a great fighter but if Jamie was 100% I think he may have won. Great scene though

Sir Gregor Clegane aka the Mountain is supposed to be 8 feet tall in the books. Just something to think about. I forgot how tall Hound was supposed to be but I think 7 feet or really high 6 feet. Robert Baratheon was 6’5 in the books

Jaime was unnarmored and gone months without trainning and eatgin/drinking less than he needed daily and still was with both hands tied up together (notice that he only uses the sword with 2 hands). So that was the reason brienne won
Jaime had his hands chained, was unarmored, malnourished and exhausted from being a captive/prisoner of war for months, and the books make it very clear Brienne only just barely managed to beat him in that state. The show version is very different, mostly to hype up Brienne as a powerhouse.

You gotta remember. A lot of things on the north side of the wall and east of Westeros are thought to be fake or just tales from stories. Cuz it's been so long since people in Westeros have seen those things. Wargs, the white walkers, giants, dragons, the red woman etc. that's why really old people like Maester Aemond or people born outside of Westeros like Ygritte know a lot more about the things going on outside of the war.

Michelle Fairley does such a great job as Catelyn. You have all these women in the show using their femininity in different ways. There's Cersei using hers cynically to manipulate people and get what she wants, Margery doing pretty much the same thing but in a significantly less evil way, Sansa wearing hers as a cloak to hide her intelligence and awareness, Brienne rejecting hers as a result of how she was treated, and Arya rejecting hers in an attempt to empower herself. And then there's Catelyn, doing her duty. By every measure she's the ideal woman in this culture, just like Ned was the ideal man, and she just suffers over and over again. Shit's grim.

The Red Letter Media Star Wars videos talked about how sword fights should advance a story and the characters and shouldn't just be sword fights. This was to explain why it (and the audience) wasn't terribly concerned with the sword fight at the end of Phantom Menace. It was all flipping and no emotions. When I think of that, I think about this scene and Rashomon. The fact that Jaime thinks that he's going to have an easy victory and slowly realizing that not only is Brienne better than him but also playing with him is a perfect character moment for both of them.

It’s pretty well accepted in the book fandom (and I think George says) that brienne is probably one of the top ten fighters in Westeros, very good but Jaime is more like top three, and he lost because he was weak from being in that dungeon for so long, but, as you said, she wasn’t willing to kill him, so none of them were at their best in that fight, either way, Jaime is pretty impressed by her skill. And me personally, i think she’s probably the most badass just based on Jaime’s first chapter, when she literally took out an entire boat full of people who were trying to shoot them off their boat by diving into the water, climbing up a cliff and rolling a BOULDER on them, took three arrows in the back in the process, and walked it right off. 😮💨

I think this Jamie Brianne fight is just wholly inconclusive personally. In addition to all the other stuff, she's not just "holding back" she's not even remotely trying to show off, or use good moves, or fight him in any specific way that may be to her advantage, or do anything other than what she does which is literally JUST being duly cautious 'cuz she's never fought him, and holding herself to making sure she doesn't miss the chance or make a mistake. It's not like she's only at 90% of her power or something, we have no idea what the number is 'cuz she wasn't doing any number she was just zoning in an making sure she didn't lose him. And she didn't. But who knows how malnourished and emaciated Jamie is, we don't exactly know what they fed him. All we know is a sub optimal Jamie tried and failed up to the point at which they were interrupted, and a cautious and focus Brianne was cautious and focused and managed to do the only thing she wanted to do which was not lose him. Doesn't really translate to us being avle to do any proper power scaling. I think it is meant to JUST tease us, like maybe maliciously maybe not, but I don't think we can make certain claims from this. Other than that Brienne didn't fail, up to the point at which they were interrupted

Jaime was at best 20% due to lack of training, but more so from sitting on his bones and eating bare minimum for several months at least. He hands were also bound. In the book Jaime admitted Brienne was stronger than him. Brienne also mused afterwards if the Lion was in top form she was not certain she could have beaten him. As far as Arya in her scene with Thoros she was fighting one of the best swordsman in Westeros using a sword far too large for her. If she had Needle would have have still lost at this point, but would not have been so humiliated. .
