I really enjoy your videos. I'm 65 and started playing 2 years ago. My advice is to have your guitar setup so the strings aren't too high, correct technique, and practice, practice, practice. When you try to practice and nothing seems to go right, STOP and try again later. It's easy to pick up bad habits trying to force yourself through a bad practice session which you will eventually have to break.
I'm in exact same circumstance. Last played 25 years ago and now retired and have time to get back into it . Had my old yamaha fg 450 set up ( anyone need a recommendation for a spectacular guitar shop in milwaukee ...Wades Guitar ) with significant improvement in playability . Thanks for this video ....hint #5 has been a real revelation . Thank you so very much for taking the time to share these tips Tomas

You are absolutely right sir. When the things are not working we should stop it for sometime and must start again. Consistent practice is the main and primary element / foundation of learning any instrument. 👍
The holding orange hand position " changed my life" I'm terms of playing guitar. I have been struggling with touching other strings for months and months and I really I wanted to give up. ive been playing bass for a few years now, and ive really enjoyed it. i tried guitar before, but i just couldnt get clean chords. i always blamed it on small hands, because my fingers are so short that they barely touch at the widest part of the neck. but its stupid to blame small hands, because ive been playing piano since i was 4 and dispite my tiny hands, i can easily play octaves because i just grew up forcing my hands to be flexible. i dont have my bass anymore, it belonged to a family friend who recently wanted it back, so now i have my guitar just staring back at me, begging me to play again. im used to the weight of bass strings, so these feel like nothing to hold, but somehow chords are still hard to play. i think its because with bass, i wasnt punished for having my thumb on top of the neck instead of behind it, because i could use 2 fingers to hold a string if i needed it, but now i need 1 finger per string and even using 2, it sounds tinny and hollow, so im glad i watched this video to remind me to have good hand posture
This was incredible! I have almost the smallest hands about the size of a 6 year old and I’m 12 and these tips helped me significantly, I have just started! Thank you!

Hi Tomas - love your videos - thanks! Can you give some advice regarding finger pressure? I started playing three weeks ago (I’m 49) and I’ve been practicing every day and watching a lot of instructional videos. One thing I’ve begun to notice is that experienced guitarists seem to have a very light touch when fingering chords and it made me wonder if my difficulties in getting my chords “clean” are due to too much finger pressure and/or having soft finger tips?
Hi David, excellent question. The short answer is you want to use just enough pressure to get the note to sound and no more. Experience musicians have developed this technique over years. A good way to work on this is to do a fairly simple warm-up lesson every time you practice and really pay attention to how much pressure you need to get the notes to sound. Work at lightning up the pressure but still getting good sounding notes. It takes time. There are many other issues involving getting clean chords. Here's one of several videos that will help: ua-cam.com/video/DccbNJUswpg/v-deo.html
Well done. Thanks very much. I'm 72 and have lots of arthritis in my left hand and fingers so playing clean chords is a constant process. Good advice. Thanks.....
Great video but I am having a lot of problems. 60 years old just picked up guitar for first time and I hit a total roadblock with the A minor. My middle finger on its own just travels across towards facing my ring finger when I try to play the cord - tried to cross the finger almost. I cannot make it stop. I put the guitar down, try again and every time it happens. Any advice?

Hi A.G. it does take some practice. It's some combination of lightly touching this strings with your right palm, changing quickly and staying in time.
