    Thanks for the video, was able to replace my kids in his 08 mariner. No more worrying if it will start for him! Your link wasn't working for me, but I found the part for $45, came with the new switch as well. Had it swapped in about 30 minutes. thank you!

      So if you can push the key in towards the column firmly and it will start, your issue is definitely the lock assembly. It's a relatively easy fix and will save you a fair bit.

    Everybody else was telling me I had to pull the steering wheel and grind that break off bolt. Saw your video and in 30 minutes I had it all apart.
    About that much time to get back together after I got the part. Thanks $600 times.

    You're amazing man. My daughter called me to say her car wasn't starting and she couldn't pick up her little brother. I watched your video, was able to bike over to autozone (they only had 1 left) and about 20 mins later, car starts right up WITHOUT HAVING TO JAM THE KEY INTO THE STEERING COLUMN.

    Just changed the ignition assembly today on my 2008 Escape. Great Video....I watched it and referred to it throughout the entire process. Worked like advertised...thank you so much! It took me about a little over 3 hours from start to finish. I had to run to harbor freight to get a tool to remove one bolt. Once again, thank you!

    Thanks for the video, it sure made the job possible!! I had a hard time getting the key assembly back into the new ignition assembly. Ended up having to turn the "D" shaped part back and forth from the opposite end of the assembly while putting the key assembly in slowly.

    6:40 was the worst part of the whole job, my name-brand ratchet was too bulky to get in there so I had to make a trip to Harbor Freight. I bought $12 of junk, but I got the job done! Thank you for posting this, you saved me $550.00

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Місяць тому +1

      The key doesn't need to be reprogrammed to change the mechanical part of the switch. You're not replacing anything electronic if following the video. What parts store did you go to?

    I have been doing the press hard and turn thing for a couple months now ('11 Mariner w/ 260k miles) and I think its finally giving out completely. My question is this, if needing to replace the whole assembly anyways, would it be just as easy to get a remote start option installed? Or is that something completely separate? Sorry if that's a very dumb question.

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  9 місяців тому +1

      Not a dumb question and in theory, it could work assuming the start function is the only issue with the switch/cylinder. With that said, the switch is probably cheaper than a remote start kit.

    Do I need to program the key if I get the whole ignition with keys from a junkyard

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  9 місяців тому

      I woudln't go that route. The keys won't be coded to the doors and I'm not sure if it uses a transponder or not. I think it does which means you'd have to tow it to the dealer and have it all reprogrammed (if possible... I'd call the dealer first and make sure they can do it).

      @@ralphwhitaker8761That I don't know. I know they can program the fob to open the doors and such assuming you have an original key. The physical key won't match the door at that point though

    Man im trying to do this myself but the issue im having is that the 5.5mm socket is way too small as is 6 and 6.5. But with 7mm it like too big. Whats up with that

    • @NotSoGrandGarage
      @NotSoGrandGarage  Рік тому

      Which screws? If 6.5 is too small and 7 is too big, I'd try standard sizes. It's possible someone has had it apart before and replaced the screws with something else.

  • @milleratim

    I'm having this exact issue on my Mercury Mariner. Do you happen to have the part number of the first item you tried? I'm assuming it's the whole Lock Assembly but I'd like to try this first.
