Switching from EWG to rebarb / FPP hooks has doubled my hook up ratio on weedless worms
On a normal Ned rig the fish sets the hook for you. I use the EWG owner Ned rigs for thicker cover and the hook up ratio just isn’t there but in those instances, I’d rather take a lower hook up ratio than losing lures.
I might have to try rigging them up like this.

You don’t need to. My hooking/landing percentage is excellent with this setup, and I think it overall looks more streamlined and natural. If you’re using a material other than ElaZtech you would need the EWG though.

The regular hooks with ElaZtech baits don’t seem to need them to have plenty of gap. I’ve been amazed with the landing percentage. I also think the package looks more compact and has a different fall. I’m sure the EWG work great though!

  • @aaronfaulls

Thank you for posting this. As a guy who is a devout finesse fishing practitioner and does 99% of it from shore, this setup has been essential to me for a few years now. I rig the *entire* TRD line like this: Finesse, Big, and even Giant. I also believe it has two huge advantages: 1) it saves a ton of money (snags) and time (snags and vegetation), and 2) I believe it’s a much smoother presentation that the fish will hold onto longer before a hook set.

I had no thought of that. Like rigging you're flipping or pitching setup. I mean I have finessed bulletz and ewg ned heads. But sometimes you just want or need to use the traditional head. It may sound weird but that difference in Hook Style makes a difference in certain situations. Particularly when down the river. Or fishing smaller rock the ewg Style 10 to get hung up a lot more than a traditional Ned hook ned hook

I just don’t get the hardcore “i only bass fish and I have a 250k$ bass boat with 50 rod/reel combos with every possible 20 dollar lure rigged up” guys. The amount of money they are spending they could just move to a place with real fish around.
I wonder how many of them have been hooked up on a proper pelagic predator. The difference in strength is unbelievable, even compared to big redfish and snook, not even big bass. These guys get a thrill from bass topwater hits, just wait until they see a 150lb tarpon launch itself entirely out of the water, crushing a giant 8” topwater lure in the process and proceeding to spool 200 yards off their reel in a matter of seconds.

I'm not saying it's not possible, but I would rather lose jigs than to not be able to stick them in a positive way. Way. I pour my own jig heads with light wire hooks so they can just bend out if I get snagged. I never have a problem with losing fish due to the hooks bending. But I would have a problem with them not getting hooked up at all due to this method you're showing. Just my opinion and experience.
