I asked my Grandmother one time if she noticed any similarities between the Soldiers she saw during the war. She just looked towards the window and said "They all yearned for home".

That grandma knew what war was like. If she was in the war, she could've gotten PTSD.
@@wildremiofwater...9086 She was involved in the war, she witnessed the Russian Invasion. In fact she lost all seven of her Brothers during the war.

Wonderful song but pathetically inaccurate film, Brad and his bang average Sherman taking on a SS division.. really Hollywood get freakin serious. 😮
This song and this movie are always in my mind…
@@CTID-9320 inaccurate or accurate. You or I were never there and unless you were there you can only make assumptions. Remember history is written by the victors. Just enjoy the song brother
gotta respect that actor who portrayed that german prisoner perfectly. it felt so damn real, him yearning for mercy to see his family again.
Btw he commited a warcrime(wearing an American overcoat in battle) which is why the commander made that guy kill him because be was going to die anyway
@@adwitiyaagarwal192negative, commander committed the war crime here. It's only a war crime if the German had tried to act as an American which he didn't. Staying warm isn't a warcrime
@@Chez59 "On the other side of the spectrum, engaging in attacks while wearing the uniform of the enemy is flatly prohibited, as affirmed in the treaty law and numerous military manuals (see here, here and here, for example), and is a war crime under the Rome Statute."
"There was a case after ww2 of german soldiers caught wearing US uniforms during the battle of the buldge. This was known as Operation Greif where fluent english speaking german soldiers were given US army uniforms and easily snuck behind US lines. They were able to ambush many US soldiers and caused some amount of havoc behind US lines. Those caught were tried and executed as spies. The interesting part is that they commander was tried after the war for war crimes related to this mission and found not guilty. The court ruled that it is only the act of fighting while wearing an enemy uniform that is a crime, using an enemy uniform to sneak around behind enemy lines without firing at anyone was not a war crime. Since the orders given to his men were just to infiltrate US lines with the uniforms he was found not guilty of war crimes scholarship.law.missouri.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1627&context=mlr
So basically if you are trapped behind enemy lines and use enemy uniform to attempt to sneak back to your lines that is not a war crime but if you actively fight enemy soldiers using their uniforms that is a war crime. Realistically though i doubt the enemy would make the distinction and execute you on the spot if caught no matter what."
During battle u are not allowed to wear the enemy's uniform no matter what unless and until you are not a combatant
@@Chez59 The Laws of war explain that there needs to be a solid distinction between you and your combatant. This is why different party's wear uniforms, to distinguish themselves from ally and enemy. However, if you wear the enemy's uniform (even just an overcoat), this negates the distinction and you will be charged with perfidy, therefore committing a war crime. War crimes are punishable by death so therefore the commander was in the green to kill the combatant.
My grandfather was a tank commander in WWII and he began fighting Germans on DDay+3. I loved just listening to him talk about his time as a Tank Commander fighting, surviving, killing and everything in between. He was shot 3 times but only received 2 purple hearts. I learned so much from him! I can't believe he had to go up against German tanks that were so much better than US tanks. I asked him "Papa, how did you manage to survive and destroy tanks that were so much better?" He responded "when we took a shot we never missed! I was patient in time of panic".
When my Papa died, he stood up on his feet - standing tall and died in my mother's arms and my Uncle Marty's arms. 2 of the 3 children he had and successfully raised!
I LOVE AND MISS YOU PAPA BURGOS!!! †★★★†

As a ww2 reenactor what most people don't realize is the stuff we sometimes go through especially when talking with ww2 vets, nobody really understands why we do it but we do it because we want to make sure history stays alive and that nobody forgets them, those who were there on the beaches, in the fields and the Forest, those who didn't come back that's why we do what we do to make sure that nobody ever forgets them
I love that.i was planing on joining for the fallen soldiers before me and I have so much fight in me for peace and without war their will he no peace

I reenact the 79th German Infantry Division, 1st Company, 208th Regiment. My unit got slaughtered at Stalingrad and fought till the bitter end after regrouping in the Western Front

Man this film is beautiful, I still remember crying when that girl Norman loved died in front him and also that scene where they knew they have to fight an entire fleet and the conversation between those people still give me goosebumps and the last scene where everyone was praising Norman that he is a hero and he was like at what cost, and when they fighting at the end to that many people man it tooks way more than guts to even prepare about it, This film beautifully teaches us the importance of brotherhood and Love and what harm can a war bring and that dialogue from Boyd is just legendary. I known this film is not based on true story but man we don't known if there is a even slight possibility that somewhere happens similar to this in ww2 man can't even imagine what they have to go through for their country, for bravery

I wanna take you somewhere so you know I care
But it's so cold and I don't know where
I brought you daffodils in a pretty string
But they won't flower like they did last spring
And I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I'm just so tired to share my nights
I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up, up
And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight
But my hand's been broken one too many times
So I'll use my voice, I'll be so fucking rude
Words, they always win, but I know I'll lose
And I'd sing a song that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry, I wanna learn to love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up, up
Oh, need a love, now
My heart is thinking of
I wanna sing a song that'd be just ours
But I sang 'em all to another heart
And I wanna cry, I wanna fall in love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up
On another love, another love
All my tears have been used up, up
