In Québec we used to eat a lot of buckwheat. It was worker’s food, cheaper than wheat, grown and milled locally, and could be made quickly into pancakes by the cook at the lumberjack camp. I still cook buckwheat pancakes, just flour and water fried in lard. Not at all like kasha, but still delicious.
О, не знал, что ты кандидат наук) Полагаю, химических? Очень рад, что твой канал процветает. Мне всегда прикольно смотреть на то, как иностранцы пытаются понять нашу культуру и историю (т.к. я сам частично ими занимаюсь). For all our foreign friends - I can add some things you could listen or read: Ария (heavy metal), Король и Шут (horror punk rock), Агата Кристи (art and psychedelic rock), ДДТ (hard rock), Наутилус Помпилиус (they play in different genres of rock), Телевизор, Wildways (metalcore), Порнофильмы (modern punk rock) Authors: Николай Гоголь and Михаил Салтыков-Щедрин (masters of 19th century satire), Стругацкие brothers (sci-fi), Кир Булычев (sci-fi again), Александр Покрышкин (yeah, the WW2 pilot. He has a brilliant autobiography book about his fighting during the war) Philosophers: Чернышевский (the creator of russian socialism of the 19th century), Петр Кропоткин (the most popular russian anarchist), Владимир Ленин (yeah, he's famous, but try reading "Imperialism"). If you're more into conservative ideas - Данилевский or Бердяев
Finally got round to watching this, I respect the fact you don’t measure your videos off performance but your enjoyment making them or the quality, something I need to adopt.
In any chance you consider making more science-based videos (since one of your videos the Sosnowsky's hogweed is quite popular) would you consider topics like the Pavlov's dog, the fox domestication experiment or even about Kola Superdeep Borehole? Or maybe a story on how they carried SS Baikal from UK to Lake Baikal?
I definitely wanted to make some videos about scientific topics, the one I thought of was Vavilov's seeds collection and it's tragic story during Leningrad blockade.
Funny thing is that before I found this channel I watched some of this chemistry videos and the accept was spot on. heh I was wondering if they have a Russian version of Uber/Lyft type service over there? Is it popular and profitable for the drivers?
Keep up the great work! All your videos are really neatly structured and interesting to the very end. Even though I have a shrinking attention span I rarely take breaks watching your videos. I would say it's a huge compliment nowadays! :)
Your channel is so informative for someone who (honestly) hard shifted from simping for the USSR to denigrating it as hell on earth. I really learned that the USSR was like every other country at the time and until today, a mixed bag, bc of your videos Thank you brother! Stay safe and please keep up the good work!
What do you think about solovyov’s idea to sell 2 football players and use the money to hire Tucker Carlson? I suppose he’s not a real football fan! 😂 You can buy Buckwheat in The Netherlands. It’s an ingredient in poffertjes, a kind of very little pancakes. I suppose in Russia it’s also used to make pancakes. I love buckwheat honey, it smells so good. About the fake smile, that’s not everywhere in the west. The Dutch are famous for being blunt, no fake smiles. So when they smile it’s real.
How were the whites evolutionists? They were mostly monarchists (reactonaries aka the opposite of evolutionaries) or the precursors of fascists. If anything, it were the Reds who were more evolutionary with their radical new ideas.

Your English sounds completely acceptable to me, but I understand the "scripted" versus "spontaneous" thing. I am much better at reading and writing Russian than having a conversation in Russian.
this is probably the best q&a video i've seen from a youtuber, much appreciated. your english vocabulary and grammar is just fine, but you could improve your accent. please keep making videos, I loved the hogweed one I had no idea.
Hell yeah, Uruguay! I'm from Southern Brazil and have a few hermanos from the border area and from all the way down in Montevideo as well. There's a lot in common between Uruguay, northern Argentina and Southern Brazil. It's all part of the Pampas region and it's a really great place to visit and travel around in.
Thank you so much for starting your channel. My paternal grandfather was born in St. Petersburg (well, then it was Petrograd) in 1918. His father, my great-grandfather, had a very high government position related to the railroad system. So... they had to flee when my grandfather was just a baby. My dad's side of the family is full of crazy and amazing stories. Even though I'm American-born and a couple generations removed from my Russian ancestry/heritage, I do have a VERY Russian last name and I love learning more about Russian culture and history. Your channel helps me connect with that part of my family. Спасибо!
the intergenerational question is fascinating to me since we have something very similar happening here in America, but in kind of the opposite direction where our younger generations are going more and more left learning (and i'm a marxist) while the older generations lean heavily in the opposite direction, and the notable age for the marked difference is also 40
In The Netherlands we mix the flour of it with other flours. Poffertjes, very little pancakes, are made with this mix. Foreigners love them too, according to their videos on UA-cam. Pure Buck weed is an acquired taste I think.
I took a break from youtube for a couple of days, so I missed this when it premiered. So imagine my surprise that you answered my question. Thanks a lot 👍
13:01 yeah that definitely would have been interesting in current times; alternate universe if the research and development had gone full intensity on science+technology in the 60s in USSR.
Ah well, honestly, it only occurred to me right now that the question might have been about the economic reforms of the early '90s. I'm not an economic expert so when I hear "shock therapy" my first thought is a metaphor for the upheaval people have gone through, not a specific economic technique. Anyway, I do not think that the idea behind these reforms was to blame, maybe the way they were implemented. Because on paper it was a solid idea which worked for some other countries, but in Russia it really hurt the poorest segments of the population. Perhaps the people who implemented these reforms did not think them through to the end. Or perhaps they were more concerned about their own enrichment in the process, rather than the recovery of the country's economy.
@@Setarko I'm not that well-versed in economics either, but I heard that US advisors that were advocating for the shock therapy knew upfront that it's going to be the worst option for Russian people and overall Russian economy, yet still people like Jeffrey Sachs pushed for the implementation of shock therapy in RF, which may suggest that the plan was to weaken post-soviet RF all along. Anyway, thanks for replying, hope everything is well for you on the main job so you can keep producing good content for us ;)
Another reason might have been : "The problem of socialist economic calculation is precisely this: that in the absence of market prices for the factors of production, a computation of profit or loss is not feasible."
