- This panel discussion features Saginaw Valley State University BFA alumni David Janssen Jr. (14') Myles Roznowski (16') and Alison Bur (16') and will cover topics on graduate school, non-traditional jobs in the arts, resume and cover letter writing, next steps after graduating, and how to support your career in the arts. (Recorded using Zoom)
David Janssen Jr. is an artist and educator from Cass City, Michigan. Exhibiting work nationally for the past several years, he has continued to sharpen his attention to painting and its complicated relationship to typography. Recently, his paintings use text as image to highlight the use of words experienced through UA-cam's comment sections. Many of his works develop from the confessions offered in spaces that are often scrolled past and ignored; including social media comments and personal creative writings. David currently serves as Scholarly Assistant Professor and 2D Foundations + Undergraduate Coordinator in the Department of Fine Arts at Washington State University in Pullman, WA.

Myles Roznowski is a third generation artist and native of Bay City, MI. Following in the tradition of his father and grandfather, Roznowski began his career in the field of signs and graphics. He learned the fundamentals of the commercial art industry at Mitch Art, Inc. in Midland, MI, while simultaneously earning his BFA at Saginaw Valley State University. After graduating in 2016, Roznowski has continued to work in the arts industry - both nationally and internationally. Most notably is his involvement with the At-Turaif Living Museum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he worked for two years as a scenic director. Through this position he created realistic scenic textures, mounted and replicated artifacts, and made life size historical models. He continues to work on various scenic projects throughout the country while maintaining his home base and studio, Roznowski Signs, in Bay City. Here he focuses on CNC routing and fabrication, creating projects such as: signs & graphics, custom tiled murals, furniture, home decor, and of course, fine art. His most recent endeavor is with his partnership in the Art Dept., located on Midland Street in Bay City - a community focused gallery where he displays much of his own work, and welcomes fine artists of all kinds.
