- In this video Spy vs Spy frontman Craig Bloxom talks about the early 80's and the halcyon days of the Spys. He talks about their success in Brazil, his time as a chef and being witness to Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf of Mexico, and about songwriting themes.
A huge thanks to Bloxy for being such an awesome human! Your generosity and support have been amazing!

Craig says he doesn't think the Spies songs were relevant as time crept on. I'm thinking songs like Credit Cards, Don't Tear It Down, Test Of Time are far more relevant now Vs the 80's. So unusual to hear Craig singing Clarity Of Mind. I'm just happy the light shone on Craig to get him out and performing again.
Credit Cards, Harrys Reasons, Mugshot and Dont Tear It Down stands out the best 3 piece band in Australian history.
Bloody I loved the interview . Great insight.
Nice and lovely to see that Bloxom reserved part of the interview to talk about Brazil. Spy vs Spy probably made tours in other latin American countries, but he didn't say he spoke in Spanish to the crowd. In Brazil, yes, he did speak lots of words in Portuguese! As a Brazilian mas I feel really flattered!
My brother used to listen Spy vs Spy and he was my influence to start listening too. I went then to a show in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, don't remember the year, and it was such a surprise for me hearing words in Portuguese from him.
Best wishes!

True Stuff Bloxinator… some bands even break up over Love… or the falling out, thereof. your video here .. is FUK’n totally supurb - i am smiling Ear to Ear 👊🏻😎
Great rendition of Clarity Of Mind. ❤
The Spy's my best memories of my time in Australia. Melbourne, Victoria 1989-1990.
I never had more fun than drinking
VB and Coopers Ale and listening to
Spy v Spy. The filthiest back beat in all
of music in the glory days of Rock reggae Ska. Great words. Great songs. Great bunch of guys.
ANZACS, the UK And America and all
English speaking human beings
Forever. Peace & Love. From a hard core 30++ year fan in California.
V Spy V Spu the best band of the World!! You are my references!
Same, Always my fave Aussie band
Love this. Go spys. The new spin on the songs is fabulous. .
Senfuckingsational ❤
Great stuff! Spy’s were very kind to our little band in Qld back in the day, allowing us to support them to packed / sweaty pubs many times and share their icy cold Heineken’s. 🙏
Yeah I lived the back-end of their golden run from about 88 through to mid 90's. What a time. Their gigs were insane fun
Craig, make a documentary of the time you were in Brazil, in Florianópolis. I have photos and videos of the shows.
I remember one time we went to Porto Alegre on a Thursday, Friday to Araranguá, Saturday to Florianópolis and Sunday to Rio de Janeiro. We went to all these shows one day after the other.
Also tell us a bit about Honey Island. I remember a show here in Brazil (the only one I attended with the original line-up) with you, Mike and Cliff + Daniel.
It was fantastic!
Another incredible memory is of the Sampoerna festival where you played together with Gang Gajang, The Chevelles and Youth Yndi.
But nothing beats the 1996 show, the first in Floripa. An unforgettable 3-hour show!💪💪💪
Hugs from Floripa!
Craig blox is a legend
💯!
Don’t give up on the world, just because there’s evil in it . One of their best lines , love my spy’s as I grew up in Port Stevens area
Never a fan of the Spys but man, thanks for bringing Craig's energy and philosophy into my conscience. Brilliant interviews, kudos.
You've still got it mate!
Great 🖤
esse cara é um ícone do rock australiano, lenda
This interview made my day. TY. Love the spys. Blox is a great bass player. (and singer) RIP MW. When are you coming to Brisbane?
Craig is boss. Love Craig
I got to see them and go backstage at their show in Porto Alegre in southern Brazil
amazing
Cool❤
Legend!
It’s funny to hear: We didnt have a singer…
That amazing voice was right there!
Such a humble guy when he talk about royalties and so on.
It’s strange that we associate Spy with “surf music” here in Brazil… Blox is a bad ass front man and learned a lot of our language to bring the band closer to our culture
Excellent!!
Absolutely true Bloxy .. sadly poker machines destroyed the Sydney live music scene 😒
Yeah!! I'm from Brasil, Spy vs Spy are big here until today.
The Reggae Spys are coming to Brasil in August!
@@BassBase001 good to know... thanks. For sure will go to the show.
An excellent Part 2 of the CB interview Dave.....insightful, funny and what a great inside view from the perspective of the man who lived it......Toured with Bowie eh? yeah I think ive heard of that guy lol.....I thought Clarity of Mind, Reggae Spys was super cool..
cant wait to tune in to Part 3.
One of Cliff's paintings on the wall
Olá galera!!! tudo bem? :D
"Spy vs Spy weren't so relevant any more"
Well, you've always been relevant to me Craig. Don't Tear it Down. Mission Man. Credit Cards. Trash the Planet... Probably never been more relevant.
Craig stated Spies became not so relevant in the early 2000's, I'd disagree. the same issues they wrote about back in the '80's was and in 2024 still is relevant, possibly even more so in this decade. Same issues ignored by the greater population.
The crowds were shrinking, pubs were going full poker machine, wasn’t the same
Better than Hutchence. Better than Garrett. Best Aussie frontman...... ever!!!!
I want a time machine to go back to an 80s pub
If you find one, let me know!
