Wish I could be there - next time mate!
HAINBACH next time man!!!! Have a good time on your travelszzz!
Are either of you doing the US any time soon? (MidWest!?)
I live about 270km from Berlin in Poland, and I think I'm going to put some miles on my car and see both LMNC and Hainback in the same week! Crazy!
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER what about both of you in a concert in Holland (what would that cost??)
I'm so glad I found your channel, man. I really want to get into modular synth stuff when I actually have a job and money
Time is most important circuit bending is a good beginner nice and cheap!
The amount of drive and energy behind what you do is incredibly inspiring. I certainly don't have it in me, but get to enjoy all of this anyway.
If you're going to use XLR for power, consider using XLR-LNE or XLR4 so at least there's no way to screw up and accidentally plug one of the supplies into a mixer input.
LapTop006 too late now! Oopzez
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Could drill a 4th hole in the xlr cable and add a wodden/plasitc pin into the power input connector?
But both those are kinda hard to get hold of (in my experience) I would've personally gone for powerCON (or Speakon if you wanted an audio-esque connector) to get the locking. But I suppose the argument for XLR (and line jacks) is that you'd have to bring fewer things in a repair kit
@@swantzter The problem with powercon is they're now common enough that you'd then have the problem of someone accidentally plugging an AC cable straight in to the synth.
@@laptop006 yeah that is a fair point, hence why I was thinking about Speakon. It gets us back to the issue with XLR or Jack sockets, but at least over here they aren't that usual
those drums are SO DIRTY. Love it.
brian magkasi thanks to the safety valve 2.0!
Thanks for an update. I like seeing you work, you handsome mad scientist.
Commodore room looks glorious!
Is your wifi name LOOK MUM NO WIRES?
and "LOOK MUM NO PASSWORD" is the password ahhahahahah.
Man of Culture
That legit made me laugh.
LOOK MUM A COMPUTER
Absolute madman. I love it!
Beautiful reset - it is sounding better than ever.
Hope the European tour goes well man. All the best... Wish I could make it to one of your shows damn it!
I watch so many UA-cam synth channels, and there are a lot of talented people doing their thang, but you are the only one making music that I actually listen to outside UA-cam - I loved what you did with Zibra, and I can't get enough of your LMNC stuff. Keep it up!
1:13 I love the setup with the lighting under the speakers. Great idea!
12:10 Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
256byteram good point!!!
No one ever takes it into account ha
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER ha
speed of light always travels at the same speed regardless of your speed
See you friday! Really looking forward to it!
Awesome!! Congrats!!
We joined the show in Düsseldorf and it was amazing. Excellent event. Thank you very much and keep going on!!!
fantastic stuff, great info, love your website, big big fan keep it up love the synth world
Sam... You are an absolute inspiration.. I love the XLR power solution.. Agree with Laptop 006 though... Just don't let the tech short the deck out accidentally in the dark plugging one of those bad boys into Hi Gain channel one.. 😆
Great video! Definitely a creative genius at work and play!
great sound
Keep up this modular material. It's legendary work.
This is a start of something absolutely epic!
looking forward to seeing it in action!
I love how you love what you do
The mind is a terrible thing to taste it’s funnn
Unreal sounds
Always amazing stuff! It astonishes me how quick you seem to be able to design and build this stuff! Loved the clips from the computer museum visit there! Good luck on your tour!
thanks gadgetuk! yeah funnily enough i tend to design in bed in the morning, get up an hour earlier and draw stuff out. haha. thanks!
Two really cool youtubers in the one spot! Nice
@@willynebula6193 Thanks lol! I can only dream of being as interesting to watch as Look Mum No Computer!
Wish you all the fun you can have during the tour!
That drum jam... fireeee
Thanks for the video!I am getting ready to build some of your CEM3340 oscillators'!
I've never used strip-board before.I always use multiple-pad,proto-board,or make p.c.boards'! : )
That old school game museum brings back memories to this old man
Just received my PCB of your Cem3340 oscillator (with the FM input and sync inputs) from JLCPCB. Perfect timing!
Great job in this effort
It was a pleasure to watch you involved in all of these improvements ! Now, looking back to the way you have made should make you proud of yourself.
The second thing that made me enjoyed the video was to understand (well, nearly...) your live set and how you make it play songs ! I wish I will be able to see you on stage next time. Come to Lyon ; you are welcome ! And if you're not, well, I will move to Germany.
Always interesting content, love the fat beat at the end ! Thanks for sharing
Some great additions and mods! See you in Amsterdam next Saturday ;)
Looking forward to see you in Köln. Nice rework of your gear!
Great show in ramsgate last night. Got quite hot but nice to see you keep your keyboards hydrated lol! watch your back and look after your ears
There was no battery in the SX64. I still have mine ;-) And Oliveti and many others made portable computers long before the SX64.
It was the portable ST that had the battery so bad they started gluing the compartment shut and selling it with the AC adapter I think
@@mattpowell8369 Great you knew that, then thats solved ;-)
Brilliant upgrade Sam! Drive carefully
Awesome work, looking forwards to buying a few of the VCOs when you release them! Already got the other two modules you released, they rock.
awesome! have you built them? you mayt have noticed a change from filter to lfo in mounting holes!!! sticking to the lfo holes :)
Had you existed as of today, back in the early 80s - the synth era vs punk vs hard rock would have been completely transformed...there hadn't been any vs...punksyntrockgeekcooltrashwaytogo!...would probably have been the name of the era. Good work!
Renegade synthesizer genius!
Great job! Those pcbs look good.
hearing the music crawl out of the boxes after 14:14 was cool. I was actually jammin out to that melody man! Keep up the work
your oscillators look GREAT!!!!!!! i want tuners on all mine now :)
SB you rock , love this synth stuff, wowo w ow synth god honorary titlte
This guy would be ace to chat to at a rave.
Or offer the use of a soldering iron... what a heckle!
Look Mum Pcb Have fun on tour!
haha 64er ... i have a lot of fond memories of that magazine and the c64 :D
Yeeah Very Cool Video Brother A "millie Grazie & Good Vibes"
Had a freaking nice time tonight in Amsterdam,
My interest in circuits started about 3 years ago. I focus mainly on guitar effects but I smell a diy synth in my future. Its been so cool to see your quality increase through the years. I recently moved to using PCB's for my projects also. You know you are getting better when you open .up an old box and wonder what the hell you where thinking.
hashaha oh the what the hell was ithinjking thing! i know what you mean! even 6 months ago. its like what the hell!!!!!!! good luck!
sick
Sam your A'dam show was awesome, short as it was. Hope you feel better.
Awesome vid Sam! See you wednesday in Brussels! ;)
ONMACHT see you there!
Excited for Amsterdam mate. Can't wait!
:D
Mental rig mate!
its nearly there haha
I'm seeing you in Sweden the 20th. See you there! :)
That IS good gaffa tape :D Been thinking about putting the adapter inside, and use one of those mains cables that computers use, but don't think I'll have room for it inside my case. You can borrow my snare if you'd like ;)
Please do a full version of the song at the end, this Owl Vision bass type is amazing 🙃
(Definitely going to built a modular synth btw, thank you for all)
Modular Addict in the US still supplies and supports the Hexinverter drum modules
Jacob Siener but not the diy pcb???? Would another crack haha
LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER They’ve got the PCBs. Hexinverter just doesn’t deal with the “my build has problem x, y, z” emails. You’ll probably get stuck with an extra euro panel though but maybe they could take care of you with just a PCB if you sent an e-mail beforehand. Also, they’ve got a bunch of new Befaco just-PCBs (no panel/PCB set) for people wanting to upgrade to the new revisions of their modules - works out if you make your own panel.
Brilliant Sam, always learnt something. I'm stripping down some old PC speaker and making a guitar amp. Just thinking what to use as a shell with what I got. Thinking maybe a tool box 🤪🤔😉😂
A plastic oil jerrican, spiral tribe style!
@@Slashings 🤔 I like your idea. Nice one buddy 😉👍
great insight butterfingers ! hope you can do schematics for that vco ?
Hey Sam! I just wanted to say you’ve really inspired me. Not sure if you would have seen it since it was only up for 24 hours on my Instagram story but I got an idea from your simple oscillator pt. 2 video to use a vactrol to modulate this fuzz pedal I made. The fuzz has this switch that basically causes it to feedback into itself and so the vactrol was controlling that parameter. Anyway, have a great tour!
Schwa Iska cool that’s a good idea! Nice :) simple lfo thingie
hey bro! you're in bruxelles tomorrow! welcome! couldnt get a ticket--if you have one to spare--I'd love to finally see you live! have a great show! d
domenico giustino email me on the day! Through my site if I have space on guest list I’ll add you 👍
The next Robert Moog in the making. PCBs are the way to go but lots of effort to redesign and rebuilt it all. It will be a good source of income if you end up selling kits, which you definitely should do.
pcbjunkie having modules to sell that’s what I’m working towards
Any chance of having the PCBs a bit shorter so if you wanted to they could screw into eurorack?
I can not wait until December for these new boards to hit the store! :D
same!
Ah damn you were in Frankfurt?! I totally missed that :(
Hope you will be back for a concert!
Another quality entertaining video - but can I be that person and say that the Eurostar travel under the English Channel (or to be precise, Strait of Dover). But with that to mind, it's cool knowing you will pass right through my home town of Folkestone. :-D
Superb vid as always. Good luck with the tour. When is your next London gig?
Ken Young not sure! Hopefully gunna have one when gameboy mega machine is done in a church to film the finale vid!
wait, you only started doing this modular stuff 4 years ago? You're already a legend in my book!
berzerkrobot probably more like 6!
pcb boards = print circuit board boards
He got the money to fund the repairs from an ATM machine.
It's called the PNS syndrome.
@@U014B He had to type in his PIN number.
It's already driven me up the wall and I'm not half way through the video.
+Xanthyn But he couldn't see the numbers because the LCD display was broken.
Hehe, i recognize some donated stickers on your gear in this video!!
I was at the Amsterdam show and saw you put them on your keyboard also!! (dutch 'whatever' stickers)
Everyone should donate to LookMumNoComputer!!...
Hope your better now and don't have to vomit anymore.. although i like to see a Vomit-Synth..
Hooraay! See you in Sweden then!
SWEEEEEEDENNNNNN
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Thanks for a great gig. Says the guy that yelled "BEEEING BOOILEEED" but everyone just didn't get it.
Did you know that the guy who made the Simon toy also made Pink Floyd's touring rig and Kiss's flame throwing guitars???!!! Thought you might like to know that, if you didn't already! His autobiography Look Me in the Eye is worth a read and talks about how he taught himself electronics (and flame throwers)! You can read about him here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Elder_Robison
Nice to know! Thanks.
I'll sure have a look to this bio'
hey, i dont build synths, i use some, but i think what you're doing is awesome. but it doesnt matter what i think
Sam, Id kindly recommend powercon as an option for the future!
Damn man looks like you’ve been measuring stuff. Youoh don needa do dat! Also the synths sound dope
Justin Power hahaha I know I know 😂
A couple of days ago I got a "Behringer Super Fuzz" and it sounds awesome!🎧💫😵 on my pocket operator drum machines, or any of my drum machines! weirdly enough it fits more than my rat pedal?
I need to see you at Brussels this evening!!! I still need to find 2 tickets and, worst of all, there's a bus-strike in Flanders... #DamnyouMurphy!!
17:00 check out Thomas Henry's Clangora. Analog, DIY, super versatile drum voice
What if you used flight case clamps to keep the stack all secure together?
I'm interested to know more about that VCO that appears in the video, I think it's the same as an instragram. where are the schematic or how do I get more information about it
You are an absolute crazy fucking Genius. Hope i have the chance to be at a show of yours in Germany one Day
I would go for speakon connectors for power
Sam WOW man havent watched your vids for a long time, got deep into graphics takes a lot of your time up you know!! ..but sorry to say guy your aging a bit :-( but your still a star bro love your work awesome happy Chrimbo just subbed
Can't wait for Amsterdam! Got the tickets 😎
good! cus i think its sold out! :D
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER It is! :( Wanted to go so badly... Oh well, maybe in a next lifetime.
That modular synth of yours barks like a good 'un
Do you have any plans to talk about how you design/layout your pcb modules?
The new oscillators look sick - can't wait for the video on that.
Nice setup...But why don't you use medal rails for mounting the modules?
2:02 "What's a robotron?" robotron is the famous (because the only) computer of the GDR ;) see "Digital Retro Park" for details :)
Should look into PowerCON connectors for your rack power. Way safer and fully isolated so no sparking. Plus there's no way to mistake it for something else so some stagehand doesn't accidentally plug your XLR mains cable into a mixer or somesuch~
fooschnickens I did think about them! I may do after this tour. To tell the truth I forgot their name haha
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER I feel you, Neutrik has a connector for just about everything these days!
Look mum, I need to know what is a good Android app to try out that has modular synth shizz I can test out to see how it all works before I start buying physical gear?? Like a virtual version of adding different moduals ?
I might join you in Stockholm!
The 1948 book Cybernetics: Or, Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine, by mathematician Norbert Wiener from MIT played an important role in the development of the Barrons' composition. The science of cybernetics proposes that certain natural laws of behavior apply to both animals and more complex electronic machines.
By following the equations presented in the book, Louis was able to build electronic circuits which he manipulated to generate sounds. Most of the tonalities were generated with a circuit called a ring modulator. The sounds and patterns that came out of the circuits were unique and unpredictable because they were actually overloading the circuits until they burned out to create the sounds. The Barrons could never recreate the same sounds again, though they later tried very hard to recreate their signature sound from Forbidden Planet. Because of the unforeseen life span of the circuitry, the Barrons made a habit of recording everything.
see you in amsterdam my man!
nice living room ........do u allways have a vcr production camra rig and miles of video duct in the corner
I'll come an see you play in Stockholm :-D
Man your work is amazing!
I m really curious about the silver module you re touching around 16:45
That sounds like some kind of vocal inspired filter
What is it?
