- THE SAFETY VALVE
This project was created for my patreons. It wouldn't exist without them! if you want to support for bigger better projects I would really appreciate it, Livestreams giveaways etc :-
/ lookmumnocomputer
THE SAFETY VALVE is a derivative of the VALVECASTER a guitar pedal project by Matsumin. Optimised for modular synths! NO HIGH VOLTAGES FOR SUPER SAFETY :).

This is my favorite interdimensional cable channel.
I don't know, I prefer the one from the Furby universe with all the humans wired into a keyboard.
haha
This feels like a segment on mtv from like 22 years ago
This channel is my favorite thing on the internet right now.
Lol... 22cm drill bit. I know what you meant, but i still laughed at the thought of it.
SexyNinjaMonkey saaaame
SexyNinjaMonkey also the fact that its sort of prestented as if you are delivering vocals in that song is soo cool
Jam session starts at 6:12. Hendrix died just as synths were taking off, depressing to think we'll never hear what he would have sounded like with this stuff. But props to Sam for an excellent build video and of course tweaking some outrageous sounds out of his crazy devices.
This channel is GOLD
wow this is exactly what i have been wanting to look into, but havent had time. Big thanks and keep up the good work!
its been years since I produced tunes but I just love watchin this dude talk about soldering to a beat on my lunch break its nuts.
This was great! All tutorials on all channels should be just like this!
Super fuzzy, sounds awesome!
I love your channel. I dont know where youve been but you sir are a gem. Cant wait to see more.
Badass!!! My bro and I were just putting together his new custom head too. Learned a lot about tubes. Have a boatload of New Old Stock tubes that used to belong to my granddad, so your latest video is very topical. So glad I subscribed!
Happy Belated Christmas!
love these build videos!!
That was just fenomenal!! Best channel ever!!
Dude Metasonix sent me here and I love all of this. Sub'd
Absolute monster fuzz with those vacuum tubes!
Sounds so awesome, thanks!
Those valves sound as cool as they look. Definitely gonna build one.
Dope dope dope. Ordering parts now!
You're the crazy scientist of modular synthesizers!
That part where you explained how to put it all together sounded like a talking heads song, it was great
More like a whitehouse track lol
brilliant!! can't wait to make this!
Love your content! And your haircut is very cool too! :)
:O That sounds so beefy and great! What a wonderful noise those make!
I’m so jealous of that kick ass wall of knobs!!!
Damn that sounds amazing!
Great work 😊
This guy is one of a kind.
This is a rad video
Aww man sounds amazing. I’m thinking of making a eurorack version.
this guy is a genius
daaaaaamn dat valve osc sounds amazing!
damn I'm gonna have to watch this video in my car with the subs. That bass was freaking INSANE.
This guy is amazing
That tat on your right hand 5:08 dude, stole the show. Thumbies up
Sounds so goood
This is sick hankyou!
incredible!!
Great vid...thanx.
0:47 is actually a pretty good description of valve guitar amps
Lovely!
Awesome channel LMNC, love it. Question; is there any way possible you could test/show or A/B circuits with better components? I would like to learn where all those differences come in.
Your channel rocks mate :)
Awesome!
Very cool
Awesome! It's pretty quiet, my valvecasters always end up with a shit tonne of noise
I would so love to play with all that stuff.
you're 100% no bullshit i love your stuff
theres plenty of bullshit in there :P
yes but in a fabulous way
Man, you're a genius. From where can I start making electronic stuff?
Very nice to listen this on my iPhone speakers.......
Fella, amazin!
You should definitely work on the next Tron movie soundtrack.
Maciej W. If those bastards did not cancel it ! :(
Matt Thompson they did people don't watch anything sci-fi that is not starwars
this is what genius looks like
So cool
killer man # ure topofthepops # three thumbs up
Holy mother of textures
You’re a prince! :)
Wow! Sounds really great! IDK is it even possible to create this warm sound with any other elements... (no DSP)
LOOK-MUM, can you make a demo video of this module with a slight distortion (or overdrive or fuzz?). Here the levels are too much (even for me) :) Maybe some famous solos of Depeche Mode, Red Snapper, Amon Tobin, Moloko, Portishead, Bjork... etc. - just the examples :D Covers are the great things to get some hype, BTW!
ficou loco de mais eu sempre achei q a válvula tem mais ganho e potencia melhor ,claro depois q ela esquenta.. genial
Would likely require a lot of tweaking, but I know that there are vacuum fluorescent display preamps, like the Korg NuTube that operate on a similar principal to a normal vacuum tube. Is there a way to wire up just a traditional fluorescent light tube that you can just grab at the hardware store into a useable distortion preamp?
Dude, that is bad AF, man! Righteous!
Great! Put some cages around those tubes for protection.
Sam, could you build a drum voice using a preamp tube? Like the metasonix drum machines?
Hey! Can you tell me what background music is this (the first and the tutorial song)? Liked your videos very much, dude!
I like how you rapped the instructions.
FUCK! That is an amazing crazy brutal sound!
Would love to pair this with the Rene Smitchz VCF and shove it into a pedal. It's just a pain amassing components cause it takes forever for stuff to show up
man, you are freaky - i like it!
Hey Sam. Great project as always. Im confused as to the powering of the unit with that -12v / +12 / GRD set up. How might I power this just using the pos and neg of a standard walmart power supply ?
What's a 'standard' Walmart power supply? An old PC PSU is ideal for 3.3V, 5V and 12V.
Do you have a schematic for the dual-tube version? :P
Would something like this work with a xenon plasma tube and how could you boost the voltage. would you need a separate power supply .
This guy should be working for Moog!
when building the modules, would one simply use 3.5 sized jacks to get a eurorack style?
06:46 you were playing Solenoid's cover of the Suspiria Theme...
The best thing about a valve is that if he ever blows for any reason you can just unplug it and plug and new one in with a transistor if it's directly solder to a PCB you have the ball ache of taking the unit out of its casing desoldering it and soldering a new one in
YO I need to make this I have almost all the components lying around
also when are u and Orla Gartland gonna go on a date :-D
have you tried the Erica Fusion line?
I have some old valves, how can I know if I can use them?
Bru-tal, mate !!!
yo can you make a VCO using those tubes ?
I wish, I was zapped to Zanzibar!!!!!
can you make a demo of your 'solar frkkin roadway' ?
awesome vid btw! :)))))
i did :) at the end of this! ua-cam.com/video/C9QfWqbCfrw/v-deo.html
aha amazing!
anyone know how to run this off a single rail psu? would love this in a stompbox but don't wanna have to run a dual rail supply
This dude is the next rick
Hi!
Any chance someone could explain me how to power this module as I don't have eurorack type of power (+12 -12 and ground) but normal dc power (+12 ground)?
Maybe this is a really stupid question but I would really appreciate help :)
2 -12VDC supplies, just tie them together opposite polarity so you get +12, 0V, AND -12 as reference points, it'll do in a inch but maybe be noisey or unstable/regulated like your after. but its been done.
Hi, I really like the background song (LMNC theme song ?). Can you make a video (something) with just the theme ? It would be cool to have it for my phone ringtone or something. Cheers!
I have a 12AU7A sitting here, I wonder what that will sound like. One way to find out ;)
there's also the tube screamer pedal - classic overdrive
yeah! its solid state that best mind!!! sick pedal though :D
Hi Sam, I've e built this four times now and eve time the 27ohm resistor heats up real HOT 🔥
Switched it to a 10watt 27r still pretty hot.
Not sure where I'm going wrong, using a 15V
Supply instead of 12V could that be it? Cheers thanks for the electric lessons !
Based on the schematic, the tube is wired for series heater. 12.6volts across pins 4&5. This will pull 150 Milliamperes of current. If your supply is 15volts you need to calculate the correct size resistor.
In reality the resistor is not needed if the supply is only 12volts. To calculate the size resistor need with a 15volt supply you need to drop 2.4volts / by 150mA to give you the resistance. To calculate the wattage rating- 2.4V x .15amps (150mA)= Watts.
So, how difficult would it be to start making some DIY projects like this? I've been researching for this type of modular synths and found out mainly two things... Those are freaking amazing, and you need lots of money if you don't go the DIY path (which I'm willing to).
This fucking kills!
1 year ago no parts list feels bad man. Hope you're doing alright LMNC dude.
i dont know much about much - but i pretty well put this thing together on a breadboard. and to test it I was just going to get 12V DC wall wart that I have already chopped.
On the schematic it says it requires +12v, -12v and Ground. Can i do this with just a 12v DC wall wart? it only has 2 connections - 12v+ and GND.
i think im missing something fundamental in my understanding of electronics here...
Yeah you need a -12v too but if you listen to this circuit hefore the opamp you'll hear sound without a bipolar supply
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER i just tried it with an old computer powersupply and used the -12v rail from that - but it didnt quite work lol.
The output was very very quiet .
Im gonna double check things first and ill try taking the audio from before the opamp thanks so much for the project info and the suggestions!
ive had so much fun getting all the parts and putting this thing together over the past couple days :) thanks again
Can you build my bassman kit
the original schematics have 12AU7 (ECC82), NOT 12AX7 (ECC83), the reason being AU has less gain than AX, it works obviously, but for a guitar AX tube sound is too harsh in this circuit
You seem to know tubes, at least more than me. Would it be possible to use the 6EM7? I bought a few for a preamp project.
There is a reason for that, the guitar signal levels are much lower than ones used in synthesizers
21st century Richey Blackmore!
gat damn
Please for the love of the Almighty, someone make a sick remix using the build instructions as vocals and samples.
show us solar frikkin roadways in action pls :dd
zap me to Zanzibar!
