      @@rhondaweaver4486 Hi Rhonda, it really depends on you and what you want to do, what I like to do is use a spray bottle and spray the pole from top to bottom. If a plant is fully growing up the pole I normally spray the pole and the aerial roots of the plant. Note: Don't drench the pole though so waters dripping out. Hope this helps 🙂

    Sydney Plant Guy makes these style of moss poles and I’ve been wanting to make one! He keeps the pole wet by drilling a hole in the cap of a water bottle then he puts it upside down on the top of the pole! Keeping the moss wet helps the plant root a bunch into the pole which helps size them up!

    Ohh another good tip I saw was from the jungle haven and she puts a plastic cup with a hole in it at the top and just fills the cup with water and let’s gravity do the rest. Awh this video made me so happy!!! Highly recommend “plastic hardware cloth” its easier to use imo and holds perfectly. Also if you’re ever not in the mood to spray the poles, I highly recommend water bulbs, can fill those up and just stab them through the top and let it do it’s things. Just saves time and effort, especially when I’m in a funk and can’t make myself do things 😅

    • @briannachonos6923

    • @valoriititus1937
      @valoriititus1937 2 роки тому +2

      @@briannachonos6923 it depends how big your poles are. I’d say i refill mine about every three days, but that’s just because my poles are thinner. If you have thicker ones I think the moss stays moist for longer. Since I use the plastic mesh I can give the poles a squeeze and can hear if the moss is dry or if it can go another day. Hope this helps 💕

      Oh my gosh, SPG's plants are freaks of nature, aren't they? The leaves of his aroids are some of the largest I have ever seen. I like how he offhandedly says "you know, I don't do anything special, just water it, let it grow", lol!! But Sydney has a very temperate climate, so probably a longer growing season than many cities here in the US, and certainly longer than I have here in Ohio...

    Couple of thoughts. I try to clip off as much as possible of the spurs when I cut the wire. you need wire cutters for that. What you used looks more like cable cutters. Others bend them inwards. As for watering the moss poles several creators fill old water/soda bottles with water. They have put holes in the lid. Turn them upside down at the top of the pole. At long as the very top of the pole is wet and the bottle top comes in contact with the moss the bottle will drain on its own.

    Moss poles are very hard on the roots of aeroids if you want to extend the length of the plant at a future time.
    The roots of the plant enmesh themselves into the wire of the pole and are impossible to separate if you want to change to a longer pole.
    Much better to tie the stems to a wire or wooden trellis so that they can be easily removed if the plant outgrows the trellis.
    I've also found that once the plant starts to get tall and full, the moss poles cannot support the weight of the foliage unless there's a strong stale inserted into the pot...and one stake...and one moss pole will just make the plant look skinny and top-heavy.
    A trellis that's wider than a pole...with two or three smaller stakes...balances the weight of the foliage and also makes the plant look fuller.

    Actually it's great especially cause it's not actually a chicken wire 😂, however if you liked it make them with a real chicken wire it's a lot easier and not harmful for you, and they gonna grow to be so cute, also you can put any similar root system plant in any hole in the moss it looks great if there were many different types of plants on the pole, and thank you for showing everybody how to make one thanks a lot ✌

    I recommend checking out Sydney Plant Guy channel. He has in depth guide to moss poles, how to construct and water them. I never try cuttings without roots before so I'm curious with the result from your approach. Hopefully your plant will grow beautifully up the poles you made and please update us on how they do xD

    One note on watering them: I have plenty of those poles small and big and go by Sidneyplantguy's method of watering them by putting a bottle with holes in the cap on top of them. Works a charm 😉

    Good idea is to use plastic covered wire as well- helps with rust…..

    It’s chicken wire to me! When we have babies we need a smaller opening so this is our outer fencing. Chicken wire!

    Have you ever seen how @unplantparenthood makes moss poles? I know there’s a bajillion different ways to make them but I think she goes about it in a really cool way too! ◡̈ I have tons of the plastic backings she uses too if you ever wanted to try it, I’d be happy to send them to a PO Box or something! (Trying super hard not to sound like a creep) anywho thanks for always having great content mrs Harli G!
