Greetings from Texas! If anyone is like me, I have a ton of work in progress projects. To help keep my items separate, I use quart, gallon, or 2 gallon ziploc bags. Along with the yarn, I write the project and hook size on a post-it or I print off the pattern and that way if I pick it up 2 weeks later, I know where I left off. It comes in very handy for traveling and just staying organized. (And it's cheap too. Lol) Loved the video suggestions too. 😊
Great video Bonnie thank you but my suggestion is to have a small basket of golf ball tennis ball size balls of yarn next to you of light and dark colors the reason being if you’re watching a UA-cam stitch presentation it’s nice to have a chunk of yarn handy to try it out. So I always have a little basket of four or five different size colors balls of yarn beside me
That neck light is a great idea! Hubbie has a headband light that he likes for when he needs hands free DIYing ect, so your hubbie might like that idea as well. As for that drink, cuppa strong Yorkshire tea for me! People do forget to keep hydrated :)
Hi Bonnie! With every WIP, I leave a tag with the hook size AND brand/description, tied to the project. Hooks, as we know, gauge and can fit in hand differently. Also, I save and repurpose clear quilt and bedding bags as yarn/project/crafting bags. I keep yarn balls and useful leftovers in one. Thanks for your demo!
Great ideas Mary! Yes, when I made the "Which Hook is the Fastest" video I was surprised how much difference just the brand of hook used can make. My gauge varied a lot from brand to brand!
Great ideas. I love that threader I have never seen that before. I did however find plastic needles for yarn in Joann's Fabric that are completely split down the center so you just pull it open in the center and put your yarn in. I have all kinds of needles but these seem to be my go to needles. Also if I'm working on say a baby dress or something I like to put them in the 2 gallon storage bags I get at Walmart they also have 2.5 gallon.
Great video Bonnie! One thing I use is an old eye glasses case to put my hooks in if I have a bag that does have a specific pouch for them. I use resin hooks and dont want them breaking, plus it keeps them together and not falling everywhere. Thanks again for the video!
One additional thing I use is a dryer sheet. On rainy days sometimes the hook doesn't want to go through the yarn quite right. So if you rub the dryer sheet over the hook it makes it so much easier to work the yarn.
This is a great idea! Just today, I had the same problem. It seemed like the hook was defective, it just didn't work right! Thank you, I will definitely try this! 🙂
I recently purchased a neck light and absolutely love it. I wish I'd thought of it years ago because it's so useful and allows me to comfortably crochet in the evening when we keep the overhead lights low for TV viewing. I can see clearly and no one else is bothered. I got the idea from a video similar to this one. Mine does everything yours does, except for the different light colors, and it was surprisingly affordable. I like to have a cup of tea while I crochet or knit. Earl Grey or a chai variety with honey and milk if it's early in the day, green or rooibos if later in the day. And maybe a cookie, too.
These videos are so much fun. Thanks to your suggestions, I have organza bags on my Amazon wishlist. I have several things to add to your list: (1) ziplock bags of all sizes. I use them like you were using organza bags to keep yarn separated. I also use the snack size to separate and organize my knitting cords for interchangeable needles (I know - your podcast is about Crochet, not knitting) - but I find so many uses to help organize my yarn area using all sizes of ziplock bags. (2) the Susan Bates Silvalume Handi Tool. I have one of these in each of my notions tins (I keep a separate notions tin in each project bag) These handi tools have a crochet hook on one end and a knitting needle on the other. They are small and easy to carry and wonderful for fixing crochet and knitting mistakes. (3) Like you, I like to have my notions out on a table near me for easy access while crafting. I created my favorite notions tins by taking small tins and attaching magnetic tape to the lid and/or bottom, and the inside edges of the tins. I bought Master Magnetics Roll-N-Cut Flexible Magnetic Tape Refill from Amazon. The magnetic strip is self adhesive and I attached strips together in my tins. My needles, pins, scissors and metal stitch markers stick to it so they are stable and I’m less likely to drop them, and stitch markers and needles are easier to find inside my tin. My tins are 3x5” and 4x6” and one originally came with my husband’s wallet and the others with sticky notes in them, but you can also purchase inexpensive small tins at craft stores or online. Finally, I also love using a table while crafting. During the pandemic I purchased the Lifetime Adjustable Folding Table so I could do my work on it as a homeschool evaluator who, at that time, had to do all of my evaluations via Zoom. I have rarely put the table down since then because it is perfect for doing my yarny crafting. thanks for your fun podcasts.
I purchased the neck light several months ago and live it! I've used the pill bottles for needles and my stitch markers. I bought a yarn winder and it is a game changer opinion you have to frog an item -you rewind the ball and then wind and pull off your creation - no more tangles!
I don't have the organza bags, but I use gallon or 5 gallon zip loc bags. I also use the bags that newspapers are often wrapped in, unused ones. I was gifted a whole pack.
You can just ask the pharmacist for those pill bottles and they will give them for free. I use them for first aid kits, travel, and storage for any small things.
you saved me. the counter is absolutely perfect. i did a baby blanket for may nephew a few months ago (where he lives is really hot - we live in brazil), and i did a blanket with cotton yarn. but, the yarn is thin, i had to use a 1,25 mm hook. it ended up amazing, but counting the rows was a nightmare. this will save my life from now on. thank you so much
You can also get packs of "page savers" at Walmart. After you print out a pattern, just slip the pages into the page saver. You can put your current page on the front. It helps if you're prone to spilling...or have pets or children the spill things!
Wow you have really nice work around you. . Teo of them are on my list . Thanks for showing us what you made. It's Janice from Malta in the Mediterranean
Very nice...I love listening to you, your voice is soothing!..I bought plastic "linen storage" bags from Amazon. They zip closed around the top. I store my yarn according to projects, so they work for me!
I use small zipper carry-on cosmetic bags (clear plastic) for holding my crochet tools for projects that I work on. (hooks, scissors, markers etc) It keeps my items contained in one place so they won't get lost. I'm able to toss it in the project bag and ready to go.
More great ideas! I like the sheet tip. I like to take my smaller projects on weekend outongs and picnic tables at camp or picnic grounds can be filthy.
Hi Bonnie!! Some really excellent ideas, I am going to order a stanwood yarn winder. The one I have is not as good as I thought it would be!! But also great ideas you shared are definitely appreciated!! Some I never thought of. Lord knows we go through enough prescription bottles in our home, especially the older I get🧐💊 and my husband actually got me a yarn threader!! Thank you for sharing!!🧶❤️
This was fun. :)) I use a lot of these ideas, but there were some gems I had not thought of. Would you mind if I asked for the make of your ball winder and where you purchased it from? I like the swift you use. It looks very stable. Bonnie, thank you for sharing these tips. God bless you, too!
I love my neck light! It also helps if you’re on a Zoom meeting and it doesn’t generate a huge back light.
Never would have thought of that Nancy. Thanks!
Thank you, I enjoyed this. I also use dryer (sheets or spray) for static & hair. Also dollar store vacuum storage bag's.
Great ideas Kelli!😊❤️

Love mine and use it while I'm working with dark yarns. Much easier to see the stitches.

Great idea...I always forget what size hook I'm using til I get back to my project!
I usually leave the hook with the project, but I only have 1 set of Clovers.
Great ideas Mary! Yes, when I made the "Which Hook is the Fastest" video I was surprised how much difference just the brand of hook used can make. My gauge varied a lot from brand to brand!
What great ideas Bonnie, love the idea of the sheet in the bag for when your away from home to crochet on, whatever makes life easy ❤❤❤
Bonnie if you add a round magnet on top of the medicine bottle,it helps to pick up metal needles if dropped or to hold them in place til needed again
What a great idea Barb!
Oh yes, the neck light was a game changer for me!
Was using mine last night while watching a movie!
And I was too while right next to my “wooden TV tray” holding yarn, etc. 🥰

Great idea! Sometimes the hook just acts sticky and it's not that it's dirty. Will try this.

Thank you Bonnie
Thanks Bonnie
I use empty Altoid tins for stitch markers and yarn needles :) Lot of great ideas here!
I especially liked the neck light idea -- just ordered one. Another item that I find very useful is a pocket calculator. Great video -- thanks 👍.
Great idea! I use the calculator on my computer or cell phone these days.
Bonnie I have that exact neck light for when I'm using dark yarns.
Cool Evelyn!😊❤️
I have so many totes full of things I have made lol, I started buying the ones with a seal on the lid they dont draw moisture.

This is my first time viewing your Instructional site and I LOVE IT. Thank You. A New FAN

Yes, I keep many of my publications (first covers of leaflets, magazines, etc.) protected in notebooks exactly like this! Thanks for the tip Mary!
Thanks Bonnie for the video. In place of the traditional yarn bobbins try using clothes pins.
Great idea Andrea!

Wow! You are serious about your crochet to take it camping! Yes, this would definitely be a help in the great outdoors!
Thank you for putting together this wonderful video
Sigh ... I just checked out your links and found the ball winder info. Thanks!!
No problem! This box can sometimes be tricky to bring up on a device.
If you don’t have a yarn threader. I use a paperclip and it works.
I have a knitting bowl to keep the stuff that I need while crocheting, just sit it on the table where Im doing my crafts.
Great idea Pug Mamma!

@@marywood2561 I could not find the Stanwood winder on Amazon. I don’t know anything about the knock off versions.
Bonnie you should've pointed the other direction because it's in thuther corner.
Yep. Too late to edit. Oh well!
Ok, you’re saying the name 0f our state incorrectly. It is not Oragone, but Orygun.
