I'm glad to see that you like the Paintbox Aran. I have used Paintbox yarns for several projects that needed to be washable. It is soft, and comes in beautiful colors!
Bonnie, I appreciate this video because you're a designer and know. There's so many indy dyers and different fibers being used. I tend to gravitate to the natural fibers. Back in the 70s, acrylic peeled really badly. I know they're better today with technology. Thank you for the review. 👍🏼 By the way, you're the CABLE QUEEN in crochet. 🤗🤗
Thanks, Bonnie! Great reviews. You asked so here it goes: favorite yarn is Perfection by Kraemer out of Nazareth, PA. I have used the worsted, the DK and the sport weights. It is 80% acrylic/20% US wool. Makes a lovely, well-defined stitch, comes in generous yardage at a fair price. Nice and soft.
My favorite yarn is Premier. I’ve made several pocket shawls that is your pattern using the color kickball In puzzle premier. Everyone loves it. Thank you.
❤ I watched your crochet-hooks videos and immediately bought a set of Susan Bates. I'll do the same with this video, but I must use and finish the yarn I currently have before buying more. Love your videos!!❤
Thank you Bonnie. You introduced me to Berroco a few years ago. Love it. I also like good old standard Wool-Ease. It combines wool and acrylic and has some nice colors, and inexpensive. I just completed your Southwest Poncho using it in black. The cables show remarkably well even in black. Love it. Thank you.
Wow! I would love to see that in black Margaret! Could you possibly send a photo to bonniebay@me.com? No problem if not. I love sharing other's work on social media.
A few of my favorite yarns are: Malabrigo Rios--a kettle dyed worsted weight; very nice for sweaters. Premier Yarns Anti-Pilling Acyrlic in DK and Worsted; excellent yarn for Afghans and throws. Lion Brand Heartland; worsted yarn that is wonderful to work with in great heathered colors. I've made sweaters, ponchos and Afghans with this yarn. On the luxury yarn side, I absolutely love all of the hand dyed yarns by Expression Fiber Arts. They are a bit pricy but they are absolutely wonderful working with them. I also like the Berroco yarns. Very good quality.
Yes, thanks for listing more excellent yarns! I’ve used most of these as well. Like I said, this was a hard list to make and can change in a heartbeat!😊❤️
It's funny that you like paintbox aran yarn so much. I bought it to make one of your blankets because it was the one you used, but I found it was pilling while I was still making it. I was quite disappointed with it, but it does come in a wide range of colours. 😊 I do love your designs though. I would never have thought of crochet cables if I hadn't found your videos.😁 I like Stylecraft DK which is similar to paintbox but seems to be more hard-wearing. I am not sure if you can buy it over there though. God bless.
I'm sorry to hear that that was your experience with Paintbox yarns Ruthie. I would definitely let them know about this. It could possibly been a bad batch of yarn. That can happen sometime. I have known yarn companies to replace and or refund for poor quality yarn.
@@BonnieBayCrochet It was during the pandemic lockdowns so it's probably too late now!😁 I did use it to make your lovely cable cardigan for my mum and it didn't pill so much then, so it could have been the batch. I have found a number of anti pill yarns do actually pill. I can't afford the pricier yarns so I just have to use what I can afford which is probably part of the problem. I love your designs though, thank you.😊
Thank you! I honestly don't think there is a yarn out there that never pills, especially if you use the item you make on a regular basis. I hope to release a video in the future about dealing with pilling on designs. There is a way to care for this problem and make your items look almost new again!@@ruthiebabe3638
bonjour Bonnie c est vrai que la laine choisie met vos ouvrages en valeur ,pour le mohair je suis d accord car une fois il a fallut que je defasse un ouvrage et quelle galére!!merci pour toutes ces informations utile
No, but this is an African Market Basket and these can be purchased online. They aren't cheap, but give the makers of these beautiful baskets a living wage. africanmarketbaskets.com
I will be trying the Paint ball yarn simply aran cause Some acrylic yarn can feel really nice almost like cotton but some really bad like plastic yarn.
Would like to share a new favorite. Lion Brand 24/7 cotton. When put to work, i.e. used in the kitchen, they feel and work great. Also question, what yarn is your blue scarf/wrap made from? Beautiful.
Yes, that is another good yarn. There are so many out there! For my scarf (which is coming to my channel soon), is made using a fingering weight knobby yarn by “Made 4 U by Laura” on Etsy. Lovely yarn!
Thank you for educating me on yarns. What beautiful yarns. I didn’t know there were other types of yarns and manufacturers of yarn out there. How on earth do you work with the Berrocco Vintage yarn. I’ve never seen yarn wound like that before. Yes, I am a newbie.
Some of these yarns come in hanks and need to be wound. I use my Stanwood Large Ball winder and a yarn swift to wind these. I have links in the video description of my favorite.
Thank you for this video really great information. Is there going to have a list that can be printed? I am also a beginner Crocher . Can you give me some good resource for beginners thank you. Love the color of your nails can you please tell me what color that is. Thank you
Here’s a list of the yarns mentioned: 1. Paintbox Simply Aran 2. Phoenix Cotton 3. I LOVE this cotton yarn 4. Mohair/Silk blends 5. Banshee Fiber Arts Studio (merino/silk/yak blend) fingering weight yarn 6. Pure Alpaca by Cascade Yarns 7. Pop Sock Yarn by Universal Yarns 8. Knit Pick’s Wonderfluff (Alpaca, 7%nylon) 9. Berroco Vintage DK 10. Nurturing Fibers Eco-Fusion (cotton/bamboo blend) The nails are Color Street but I don’t remember the name. The colors do change a lot!😊
My favorites -in random order- are: Red Heart Hygge Caron Halo Perfect Phasing Caron Latte Cakes Caron Chunky Cakes Caron Simply Soft Lion Brand Truboo Lion Brand Coboo Lion Brand Ice Cream (NOT roving) Lion Brand Feels Like Butta Lion Brand Hometown Bernat Bundle Up There are so many more that I’d like to try, but there’s only so much time & I have other hobbies & of course, chores. I recommend Drops Safran too. It is a long fibre Egyptian cotton that I use for garments. Despite it's low price it is good quality, which I think I can tell from its smoothness, lack of those tiny bumps that some cottons have, as well as its slight sheen despite not being mercerised. of Unmercerised cotton has a hint of fluffiness, which makes it warmer. Unfortunately, Safran only comes in sport weight, not fingering, but it works well for autumn and spring sweaters, etc. I wear cotton in winter too because I've got sensitive skin and a cotton cardigan is enough for me indoors. For warmer garments my favourite yarn is mulberry silk (the kind with a sheen, i.e. where the layer that protects the larvae has been removed). It's very expensive, though, so I don't buy it often. Thank you for sharing this video. It was fun and inspiring😊
Oh, and for things like dishcloths I prefer linen (flax). Just like with cotton one needs to check if the manufacturer used quality long, smooth fibres, or simply the short left-over ones. I have the impression that companies sometimes try to sell us crafters yarn of low quality, trusting marketing to make us buy them without checking. We don't like that, do we...
