I run into too many people who ask me to just digitalize their own idea/sketch and are stubborn about any changes (small or big) to their vision, it's always a no from me ✨
Speaking as both a designer and design educator, you always have to remember that clients have no education in art and design. So you the designer always have to educate them during the process. The other key element in a business relationship is that both sides have to trust each other. If you don't feel you can trust a potential client, or vice versa, it's best to says no. That's better for everybody.
@@VinMatias Sadly, it's an ongoing thing. The last thing you want is for your clients to make decisions based on "likes" and "dislikes." You need to get them to trust you so you can make smart visual communication decisions.
Thank you so much for this. Please do more videos on the subject of dealing with clients and red flags. A lot of begginers like me struggle with this a lot.
Thanks for making this video, it gave perspective on how saying no to certain to healthy way of doing business and understanding who you are looking as client will help with that process.
Great advice as always Will. As a side note, I must say your video quality is so super duper amazing. Have you created any videos for how you do it THAT good? Is it the lens? the camera? or a mix of lots of things.
Will, you are absolutely fantastic 👏. Thank you very much indeed for your valuable information and advices. I do watch every video of yours but I would love to see some related with design's principles. Anyway, thanks for your help and I can't wait to see the next video.
Thank you for talking about this topic. Should one also say "no" to a client who has "unjustified" time expectations? And, for a beginner logo designer, what would be a rule of thumb for planning work time wise? Should I call a client in 24 hours and cancel the work if I can't some up with the idea, or if all my design ideas don't speak to the project goal? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
I am far from a professional designer, but I'm a trainee in that field andI try to pick up work on every opportunity I can find, to help with my expierience (your videos are also great for this, thanks so much), but a week ago I had someone approach me on instagram (I don't know where they got my contact from) and he asked me to "edit his photos". I asked him what exactly he does and what type of editing he specifically wants, as I am not capable of everything and he really needs to get more specific for me to agree to anything, so he answers "I don't know, whatever is the best. The photos are for my instagram, to flex". I was completely stunned. The audacity and ignorance of some people is just astounding.... Needless to say I turned him down.
Thank you so much for this Will. Lately it’s people asking me to do something WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION!!! Ok, I’ll send you a white blank page then 🤦🏾♀️
Client who was just cheap and wanted a logo and then printed shirts and when it was time to pay he says can I pay you in installments...keep in mind he did web design and i said would you do a project and allow someone to pay in installments?and as for the deposit he payed me what he wanted...and and non communication until 3 am...I finally said I’m sorry I can’t do this and gave him his 30 bucks back...
Bro please also talk about the proper deal and information you should take from a client because there are a lot of scams now a days. They will take your details and block your bank account. Please take this and explain about this more I don't want people to suffer the same thing. So tell them to take some details of the Clint.
Have been thinking of becoming a freelance logo designer. I had thought that maybe 99 designs contest would be a good way to see if I have the designer's eye. Have you ever done any on there? I researched and get very different opinions on whether it's a good place to try. Have you ever done any videos on freelance sites and what it takes to join them? Any help would be appreciated.
I am struggling to get clients... that's quite rough times as a beginner freelancer in a 3rd world country. Still trying to find the perfect client for me and improving my "SKILLS"

Well, I’m not a designer but this was very interesting. Good to see the similarities to my work, goals are key 💪🎩
Cheers Ben!
I enjoyed the video, watched it until the last second. Keep up the good work!
I've said "no" so much lately, because I've had a terrible string of experiences with my last couple logo projects.
Same, I literally get anxiety from anyone telling me can you design for me. They do not have respect for our work

Make a video on how to make a design brief?
Good advice in for creative industry
Basically, he is trying to say is if the client is not serious about the work then it would waste your time.

Same thing has been happening in the cooking industry lately (specifically baking)
