      That emblem was only a part of the true Confederate flag. That is what is known by all military a battle flag. Not to be confused with a regiment flag. All military when showing colors have their lead or country's flag with a regiment flag and the battle flag . This is fact not opinion. No offense either way. Civil war in truth was said to be about slavery but north south east and west had slaves that took longer than the war to be freed. The war was actually about wealth and the lack of it in the north while the south flourished in wealth . Being that its Halloween it would've been awesome if you played Cemetery Gates.

      What a crap comment by Zakk. I ran the stage at one of the largest casinos in the plains states. IF you (really) work in professional entertainment then you already know Brett Michaels is THE most genuinely nice and truly thankful artist touring today. His shows are ALWAYS full sells including comps and LOUD. After the show he will literally walk out of his way to thank every stagehand he sees. I have many pics with him and he never says no, even to temp crew. The last time I worked his show as stage manager before my permanent medical retirement he even remembered my NAME for god's sake. I've done Brett at least 4 times, and Zakk once on that Hendrix tour. Zakk is a madman on stage and running around the house, but let me assure everyone here that Brett Michaels is the genuinely nicest MF'er in the touring game and everybody knows it. Pure class. Zakk didn't even look at anybody. Just saying.

    Important correction from the tour flyer and what you said about the Allman Brothers. They actually did not approve of using the flag, and Gregg Allman said that if you ever see merchandise, or anything involving the Allmans and the rebel flag, just know it did not go through them. Skynyrds use of the rebel flag actually caused tension between the two bands back in the day (Derek Trucks has a story about this from his uncle, Butch Trucks, who was one of the two drummers for the Allman brothers) .

    Everyone has a mental image of their "place", regardless of the truth. Say Italian-American and what comes to mind is the art of Florence, not the slums of Naples. Well Southern rockers did the same thing, singing about an easy live and let live lifestyle of "sweet home Alabama". Don't forget that the Allman Brothers were an integrated Band...but had to watch their backs being long-haired "freaks". It seems things didn't change that much from the Jim Crow days, it was just easier to invent a false image of the "new South" than facing up to the truth. So what to do about that guitar? Destroy it, just like that. Yes that's a tough call but if you put it on display because of it's "historical content" then you better damn well make sure your version of history includes the suffering that's reflected in that finish. Having played in numerous southern rock bands I've been seeking a Gibson confederate flag guitar for years with no luck, and you just happen to stumble across one. Go figure.

    I bet Gibson is already preparing a PR apology statement about this guitar. Even though it's Gibson history.

    I didn't know this before but everyone seems to be saying that The Worlds Greatest Democracy had a civil war over an unacceptable practice that all the lesser democracies simply voted to abolish?

      Wow. it's almost like the war wasn't over the abolishing of slavery at all... I wonder what else could be questionable? Maybe every single document explaining they seceded over violation of their rights to operate and make money as States was actually the cause of the war, and not abolishing slavery in the slightest? Nah... but just be conspiracy, right? Racist conspiracy.

    I think the band Black Oak Arkansas had a member who played one of those.

    I've read all the comments and agree with the majority of them, great job Trogly dealing with a sensitive subject for some. As a historian and flag maker, I find the whole issue around the one type of battle flag, adopted by hate groups, fascinating because there were literally dozens of styles of confederate battle flags. The "Stars and Bars" or St. Andrew's cross style gets all the grief. If ai painted a guitar blue with a white circle in the middle, (The Hardee style battle flag) nobody would give a rats ass. Or if I painted a guitar with the flag design of any of the country's who ever held people in slavery,(basically most countrys in the world), nobody would give e a rats ass about it. My point is flags represent different things at different times to different people.
    Again well done Austin.

      Why do you call them hate groups? That sounds like a projection.

      I was referring to the modern day KKK and similar groups who openly profess racist ideas while adopting the Stars and Bars

    As an Englishman I want to understand the issue with this flag more obviously it was the flag of the south (I don’t think it was officially the flag though) who fought for slavery but why today do people fly it ? Is it because they’re racist ? or is it because they want to rebel against the system ? Or maybe both ? Either way what is it that people find offensive in particular and why do people fly it ?

    • @user-tf5lg7fc9s
      @user-tf5lg7fc9s 2 роки тому

      Fought for slavery? LMFAO. Where did you hear that hilarious lie, from yankee propaganda? Nobody in the war fought to keep or free slaves. The flag was flown when the Berlin wall was torn down. It's a symbol of the American spirit, rebellion against tyranny. The spirit that founded the US.
