Great bloody band. I know Weller is great but The Jam was the greatest thing he had! Bruce Foxton is one cool bass player too and Rick Buckler the perfect time machine for this amazing trio.
@@saphyhair5135 Thank you Saphy I remember fondly this exciting period in music history with bands like madness , dexys.bad manners, elvis costello, joy division and of course the Jam . I was 18 and felt like the world was my oyster indeed ! Now living in Brisbane since 2005 but I do miss England and the people and its incredible musical legacy
Riot down near Slough. How Eton and Slough are so much the opposite of each other, but just less than a mile apart. Slough: working class, multi cultural, industrial and Eton: a bastion of privilege and wealth serving their apprenticeships for the Bullingdon Club.
Think the story behind the song was some tough and ready working class lads tried picking on some posh guys in a pub only to find out they were the Eton rugby team! That would produce similar results to a racist in Essex harassing a small Asian dude only to find out he was a Gurkha. Would love to see that.
I think it’s pretty selfish of Paul Weller to refuse to re join the band even for a couple of tours. Jam made him a star he could have given back a little.
Besides being an EXCELLENT bass player, when Bruce Foxton is harmonizing with Paul its just sublime. Doesn't get enough credit as a vocalist.
I love his vocals on Funeral Pyre.
Best bass fills on the planet right here boys, right here boys, Right HERE BOYS
Weller looking impossibly cool. Was in 6th form and went out immediately and got exactly the same suit, loafers etc after seeing this on to!
Mesmerised at 11 and still am now.

They showed this performance the other night on TOTP Big Hits 1979.
thanks mate . been looking for this clip with the lads in uniform for ages . memories .
Great song. Great image. Lovin' Rick's straw boating hat😊

Love The Jam! A top 10 all-time favorite!
The greatest band ever
Great song 🎵ever ever 🎵

The Libertines stood to the side of the stage 😂😂😂😂
Ladbroke Grove skins actually.👍
The fellow in the uniform (2nd left) plays Simon's dad on the Inbetweeners

Cheers then mate, classic

I like the sharper cut at Bingley!!
My First Totps experience
Wow
If ever a song was lost on some

I hope Liam Gallagher as watched this because Weller knows how to make a cravat look cool
Dominic Cummings protected by Eton Brother Boris Johnson 2020...

Never quite understood the blokes stood there to be honest. Love Foxtons bass ..was excellent with SLF also. Preferred them to the Jam any day
unity amongst the lads
Am I right in thinking that the uniforms are Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers dress scarlets?
Years later Foxton would send his own son to Eton and Weller would send his first set of kids to private schools
Weller was a great lyricist. Ahead of his time.
Does anyone know which football fans (I think) did the Eton Rifles chants please?
My friend is on the left and is West Ham.
@@skaman200 You must have had a blast.
@@skaman200 he looks West Ham funnily enough lol
:-)
A better, live performance can be seen on a Manchester's "Somethin' Else", along with a ripping performance by the Joy Division
Who were the “soldiers”?
I heard that Foxtons son went to Eton?
Considering bruce foxton doesnt have any children, that rumour is nonsense.
@@colingeddes2172 lol, and to be honest if I was wedged up id be sending my lad to Eton aswell.
@@colingeddes2172 He does and , yes, he sent one of them to Eton.
@@myblues528 Not much point listening to the song then really...........................
@@thewomble1509 when? What year? Any idea what his son does now? And is it his biological son?
no1 band still
The Tories and the eton mafia ?

About the actual Eton Rifles during WWI. Setting Sons though not a concept album was heavily influenced by the Great War.
2nd from left thats simons dad from the inbetweeners

Paul Weller was The Jam!
it's his life, and he has his reasons.
@@plasticweapon He wouldn't have pulled off the Jam without his band mates, where's his band mate from the Style council?
@@ellielilac2 Yep, you don't hear anything of Mick Talbot or Tracey.
