An aussie who visited his memorial bench just outside Edinburgh. Just got home from seeing the Skids 45th Anniversary tour. Jobson had amazing energy. Stu would have been proud.
I remember seeing them support the Stranglers DeMontfort hall Leicester 78/79 - they were brilliant, some guy was trying to hook Stuart's foot in a hangmans noose, there was beer and spit flying (horrible but part and parcel of the time) Best gig ever, Stranglers were amazing too. I was 17 and loved every minute.
for me personally, there were 3 performances on top of the tops that made a lasting impression on me- alice cooper/schools out, roxy music/virginia plain and ,probably a bit bizarrely to some people , the skids with into the valley
Simply inspirational stuff - real music, played really well. Totally organic; no synthesizers included! Thanks for uploading - liked it and subscribed.
I used to work in an assisted living facility for a bunch of old well to do people, part of my job was to entertain them for an hour on sundays. It started with me reading my original poems and then spread into reading songs that were poetic. Having about six or seven living survivors from World war II in there and knowing that this is an anti-war song I read them the lyrics and then played them the song. there is nothing in the world that can compare to watching a bunch of 85 to 90 year old people toe tapping to this jam. Richard Jobson is not only in ferocious shape he looks like a doppelganger for Clark Greg the actor that plays Agent Coulson in the Marvel movies. Thankfully he accepted my friend request on FedBook and IG. THIS is music, REAL music that the Jousting Beaver, Lost Direction, and Micky Mirage crowd could never understand if it bit them in their asses. ROCK ON JOB and Bruce Watson on the lead guitar.🔥💯🌎🌿🙌🙌🏽
Love this. I believe it's about High Valleyfield and Low Valleyfield just outside Dunfermline in Fife. Made some good albums. R.I.P Stuart Adamson you beautiful soul ❤
I think some so called Punk Artistes were/are vastly underated. This being a good example. Brilliant track Well written, Constructed and Performed in a hugely entertaining manner I think these were far more than just a Punk band All larger than life Characters and First Class stars/performers in their own right. Their infectious personalities easily projected to their audiences by the obvious enjoyment in what they were doing. Modern day Artistes are unable to convey this. A different era !!
Never seen this clip before - pure class with Jobbo doing his high kicks! wonder where they got the statues for the crowd from? how could you keep still listening to this!
Bought the single in '79 - great record. Reminds of going to my first football matches then with the terrace style chanting in the chorus. The B-side was TV Stars with the immortal Albert Tatlock lyrics as beloved by John Peel.
Bought the single back in '79. Great record - reminds me of going to my first football matches with the terrace style chanting in the chorus. The B-side was 'TV Stars' which John Peel used to play with the classic Albert Tatlock lyrics.
Love the Skids and finally got to see them last year in Manchester. Notice that the studio audience just stand there whilst Jobson and the rest of their band give their all.
When i hear this i think about three soldiers from the Royal Highland Fusiliers. Each one shot in the back of the head as they relieved themselves after a night out while off duty by IRA cowards in March 1971. Two were brothers aged 17 and 18 and the other was 21. We will remember them.
Listen to Graham Coxon “Freakin’ Out” very similar sound. Coxon was a big fan of The Skids. Loved Stuart Adamson so much. Gone too soon. Such a waste of a brilliant songwriter and guitar player.
remember the Maxell tape commercial? ....the soldiers go marching .theres masses of lamb. This disease is catskin etc.....I think thats what he says but i really need to hear it on a Maxell.........all time classic
Freedom of even A and R men then they fucked you but you could say as you wanted! Thats why they killed Punk! Skids one of most under rated bands ever. Fucking brilliant , saw them in 81 in Ayr. Stuart a God. Alba gu Brath!
Well, the tenner was for whoever could 'interpret' the lyrics, not relate them word-for-word. Anyhow, I do have my own 'interpretation' of the other two verses as well if interested. So it is still a tenner to me for the first 'interpretation'. Thanks.
Beyond belief that they included not merely the well known "fact" about the manner of Stuart's passing but to go so far as to state the location as well? Utterly contemptible!
story. we wached this an thought, why is he doing this silly dance? And sure enuf we were all doing that 'silly''dance days later. And we still fucking do it now
Love this track but I bloody hate that stupid tinkley dinky-poo version which is currently in the Halford's Christmas ad. Terrible thing to such a good song.
Went to school with Stuart..... he was a great lad..... sorely missed indeed in the world of music.
a true bard

the stranglers supported by the skids? what a great double bill
Great Punk era. We jumped with this song when we were young in the 80s. Regards from Serbia

Give it some, Stewart. Always in my heart, mate.
i took this into the school disco & it caused an absolute riot & the teacher said to me : "Boy, never bring that record in again". lol.

Apparently in the studio most of the time the crowd could hardly hear the songs.

Bought the single in '79 - great record. Reminds of going to my first football matches then with the terrace style chanting in the chorus. The B-side was TV Stars with the immortal Albert Tatlock lyrics as beloved by John Peel.
Was it on White Vinyl ?

Loved the skids i was only 12 so i was too young to be a true punk love much of theirs but no doubt this is one of my fave songs ever
Skids at their best

absolute brilliant.
Listen to Graham Coxon “Freakin’ Out” very similar sound. Coxon was a big fan of The Skids. Loved Stuart Adamson so much. Gone too soon. Such a waste of a brilliant songwriter and guitar player.
Anyone caught doing the kicking dance at school discos had to go and sit outside the heads office, and the head wasnt even in
Barman And Soda
Lamb nealy gave
Had Ivory horn on sleeper for months after this. Standard look. Jobbo the first Casual in Scotland. When rest were still Punks and Skins.
remember the Maxell tape commercial? ....the soldiers go marching .theres masses of lamb. This disease is catskin etc.....I think thats what he says but i really need to hear it on a Maxell.........all time classic
Saw them in the late seventies supporting the stranglers Cardiff Top Rank great night.
Good music.
AAAAHHHHHHHH the kicking song........ if only I were 13 again
WHY DON'T THEY MAKE BANDS LIKE THIS ANYMORE?!
Andre coWard Ducked GGG Doubtful at best. This band stood against the likes of you.
because bands like this weren't "made" like all the plastic shite of today is.
Zackly!
Freedom of even A and R men then they fucked you but you could say as you wanted! Thats why they killed Punk! Skids one of most under rated bands ever. Fucking brilliant , saw them in 81 in Ayr. Stuart a God. Alba gu Brath!
Epic.
Wonderful unintelligeable song :) I remember my then 3 year old sister singing along "I got a lamu....." which was probably close LOL
Saw them in York ..... Fab
Tough crowd ....Unlike the Apollo in Glasgow when they were going nuts .Jumping off the balcony etc.....
great tune great to pogo after a drink..
Think of tdk tape commercial when I hear this
Well, the tenner was for whoever could 'interpret' the lyrics, not relate them word-for-word. Anyhow, I do have my own 'interpretation' of the other two verses as well if interested. So it is still a tenner to me for the first 'interpretation'. Thanks.

Jobson clever man
Stuart durectly influenced some of the most influential guitar players ever: Keith Levene, The Edge, others I can't think of right now.
I don't think the maxell advert interpretation counts
Brilliant - but I need to hear it on a Maxwell 😊
got this in white vinyl
Just such fun magic days ! before all this politically correct c**p ! so lucky I was young then !
Great song...anybody got the lyrics...?
weldone themyzel
stuart why :(
land sea and sky boy man and soldier ahoy ahoy after 32 years i know the lyrics the song is even better .
Belting it out like that and stooges in the crowd not moving - ridiculous
story. we wached this an thought, why is he doing this silly dance? And sure enuf we were all doing that 'silly''dance days later. And we still fucking do it now
Check out the bell end who introduces the band!! Ha ha :D Great song though :)

maxell tapes advert anyone?
the b side was albert tatlock
bring them back and save us all from the bilge shit crap music of today!
Barman And Soda 🥤🤪
The punk poet Jobson... but WTF was he wearing?
He probably nicked that cap from The Rubettes.
Richard Jobson trying hard to look like one of the Rubettes
One of the most overrated underrated bands of all time
Dunfermlines finest
Not so much a punk band but a mod band!
Love this track but I bloody hate that stupid tinkley dinky-poo version which is currently in the Halford's Christmas ad. Terrible thing to such a good song.
Great song, but completely unintelligible lyrics. That's what you call communication?
I bet he felt like a prat dancing around like that lol
Couldnt dance for toffee
Boot-boy dance. Embarrassing!
