My brother shot a nice white tail but it was really wet and the little bit of snow was melting and it was dark, we found a few drops of blood but not much and I wasn’t feeling good about it. We tracked it to the heavy brush with very little sign but as soon as we entered the really thick stuff it had let loose like a garden hose and was may 20 yards in, 9 point with a 18.5 inch spread.
I had a client's gun jam in the Skeena mountains with a big bear charging from 40 yrds. I shot it once at about 8 feet from us with my .300 mag and it dropped at our feet. I'm yet to have a gun jam on me but I know it can happen, and if you don't stay calm, you don't have much chance to survive. The strength and speed of these creatures is truly amazing!!!

@@guypoulin6929 you're right, looked up the Kodiak and the textured stock lines match up and slowing it down, I ain't see the claw extractor. I thought it was a Ruger Guide. Regardless, even the 85 has a locking bolt. Once you're in the woods, load that thing up and lock it

It's amusing how many statements are made saying the Kodiak bear is the largest land carnivore and that the polar bear is the largest predatory carnivore. Then you read that the polar bear is a MARINE mammal, so it's technically not a "land" carnivore. All the lit I've read puts the biggest of each at about the same size, so IMO it's a moot point. But one thing for sure: if you're in polar bear country and he's hungry, he will hunt you and eat you. The same can't always be said about the brown bear.
Seems like it's the same for both tho. They both will attack whether they're hungry or not. They see humans as a good meal. My question is which one is stronger, the Polar Bear or the Kodiak Bear. Imagine a battle amongst the two. I believe the Polar Bear would win the battle.
That is a Magnum XL Long action rifle to handleX long rounds like a 375H&H, longer than a standard long 25-06 to 338 mag length action, he short shucked it, which is easier to do with that X long stroke, which he did in the excitement of that Bad Brown boy
@@kermitthefrog5926 it's not a Ruger. It's a Sako 85 Kodiak. The long action was notorious for sending brass into the scope and falling back into the action. It's a shit dangerous game rifle. It doesn't have a true control round feed.

@@kermitthefrog5926 Sako is a good riflemaker. They are deadly accurate. However their Model 85 design was flawed in my opinion. The scope issue was a thing for most, if not all of the long action models. I'd much prefer a Ruger or Winchester M70 over a Sako for any kind of game that bites back.
Savage makes rifles for lefties. At least they did; it have one chambered in .243. Also Mauser which I have in .375 H&H that I used on an Alaskan griz years ago. Why is this guy shooting a rifle with a right hand action when he's a lefty?
We once put a hunter on a massive brown bear at less than 30 yards and about 20 feet above. The bear was oblivious. I manned the video gear focused on the bear. The other guide coached the hunter, who was lying prone with a solid rest. When the other guide said shoot, take him now, it could not have been a better presentation. Click went the hunter's gun. That big ol bear didn't hesitate. It was like throwing a light switch. He hightailed right into the alders, which were only 30 feet away. Today, when I watch that video, two things stand out: the bear's reaction speed and my unscripted impromptu comment: What the blank was that, to the click of the empty chamber. When you go to ruin a grizzly bear's day, you never know how it will turn out.
@@guypoulin6929 Controlled Round Feed has always made more sense to me. I say to manufacturers, don't cut corners on me for your profit. Surprised Sako wouldn't be controlled feed across the board, very fine rifles IMHO, though I never owned one.
@@VTSteve Yeah, the Sako 85 also had the ejector at the 6 o'clock position. Lots of documented cases where the rifle would shoot brass up directly into the scope and fall back into the action. Poor call on Sako's part for producing said rifles in dangerous game calibers. There are few videos on UA-cam that talk about it actually.

Once again for the hearing impaired kodiak bears are not the world's largest carnivore. The polar bear is and it takes carnivore to the true meaning which is meat eater. A polar bears diet is 90 percent meat. While grizzly and kodiaks which are the same type of bear and other bears like black bears sloth bears eat meat almost 10 percent of the time because they do eat bugs berries nuts and plants.
If you're out there, and spot after spot you can't find a Kodiak bear, perhaps there aren't many left and you shouldn't be out desperately trying to kill one for some human reason?

He was shooting a Sako 85 Kodiak. Not a true control round feed and prone to jamming. Accurate, but not a good dangerous game rifle.
