    I do like to keep the shield between the fins and the pipe after making a custom one, feel that the flywheel fan works more efficiently with that concentrated airflow over the fins.

    That’s a great way to explain it like a diesel truck. My “swirl chamber” pipe takes a while to warm up but as soon as it does it turns into a MONSTER, I definitely designed it more for pull than crack though because I’m in larger hardwood most days and have a smaller saw for limbing

    Hi Tinman, Nice pipe! You are right that not every pipe works as planned. I have made lots of little changes to the pipes I have made to get the results I was looking for. Some times the pipe is fine on a different saw because of the porting or cylinder bore and piston size. It is fun to play and learn along the way. That 460 looks like it will pull a long bar just fine.

    Hi Tinman
    So off the subject of pipes😂 I just built an 038AV which has a 50mm bore (so I think it’s basically a super) but it’s a totally original clean saw, I know the owner. I took the bottom ring out, deleted the base gasket and opened up the lower transfers. I didn’t touch anything else. I really struggled to get it to idle properly, I found the fuel pipe was sucking itself in so I replaced that and then found that the saw was now running rich on idle instead of lean. It was a real pain to tune! It just seemed to keep filling the crankcase with too much fuel on idle no matter how I tuned it. When I blast the throttle it clears for a while and then starts puddling again at idle. So I took it apart and found the whole crankcase lined with oil and the oil was black. So it got me thinking maybe because I’d taken the bottom ring out it was effectively reducing my blowdown duration a ton on idle, ok at higher rpms and cutting. So I’ve put the bottom ring back in and it’s perfect. Have you experienced this?

Lol...I've actually got a Husky 576xp that I'm not sure if I want to pipe outta the existing OEM box or make a total pipe from scratch...but first I gotta figure out why I'm covering my clutch with bar oil with the adjustment screw reefed all the way...not tight but just bottomed out..I'm not familiar with Huskies..but I'm thinking there's an O-Ring or something jacked up on it...any info would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks TinMan and keep up the GREAT work!!

    It runs a lot smoother than the first one that’s for sure. Now on the nail I hate when that happens about 4 yr ago I was cutting a 5 round cedar up for fire wood That son of buck tree had grown around a medal steak that was about 8 “ beneath the bark and jack up my chain to the max

    Hey man love your videos... You are the main reason I know how to setup and correctly read a timing wheel..... I have a MS460 top-end on a motorized bike case and the thing ripped like awesome until it locked up one day and not sure exactly why but I got lucky and it didn't tear up the cylinder or piston really... I think the rings might been too tight in the groove or something... It was an aftermarket cylinder combo and whole engine was built by a guy that supposedly knew what he was doing but I've had 2 of his engines fail on me... I'd love to pick your brain a Lil and show you some pics of what happened... Hopefully maybe you can spot what caused it and/or give me some tips on how to keep it from happening again.. I'm currently porting the cylinder and just messing around with it cause it's either gonna run again or not... I'm about $700 into this engine from him and yeah 😢 lol 😂

    Nice pipe Tinman! Now she's a mean machine. I know you're not super fond of them, but I'm still hoping you'll dive in to a 365/372 x torq one of these days. My 372xt is pretty unimpressive compared to my echo 620 with bolt on mods and no port work. Do you think an Ironhorse style pipe would help with a stock saw? I have an ear for keeping my saws in the window as far as tuning is concerned, so that's a non issue. Thanks bud!

    I think a lot of this pipe power is caused by the placebo effect you make a pipe you want it to make more power so your mind tricks you into thinking it has more power! Iv seen dyno jo dyno several pipes from several different people several different styles shapes lengths and even the ones that do make more power only give the saw a tenth or two more HP and that’s the most iv seen in one of his videos and most of his saws he’s testing these pipes on are ported saws!! I really doubt someone could really feel a tenth or two of a hp in a saw!! I could see you being able to see a difference in throttle response and that makes sence getting air in and out more efficient I just don’t see the HP gains that really make it worth making a saw that loud!

    • @wayneanderson991
      @wayneanderson991 6 місяців тому +1

      You are right in that there is not a big HP gain with a good working work pipe. What I find is the torque band is a little broader and stronger in the cut. I don't think the dyno shows or tells the true story when it comes to measuring torque in the cut. I think the felt increase in pull is more noticeable when actually running the saw versus what shows up on a dyno graph. One of the other big advantages I see with a pipe is getting the heat away from the cylinder head and out. But they are loud and not for everyone!

      @fabzacres-blackcat 6 місяців тому

      You’ve must’ve watched another video than the one everyone else saw … Dyno Joe got a 18% gain over stock using an elephant nose pipe - that’s close to the gains you get with some of these so called $500 port jobs! I know for a FACT these pipes work , especially in the timber - “placebo effect” my ASS 😂

      Straight shot dual outlet gonna perform better than a single outlet curved pipe - might be a fuzz LOUDER and use a fuzz more fuel but who cares … all about Flow and physics of gas movement at higher temps! Little things can make BIG differences from my experience … there IS a market for these style pipes as long as the price point is kept around $75, which kinda of limits what ya can do but that’s life in the big city eh ? I’ve actually sold quite a few of my version of them and just shipped a pair out to Canadian cutter (utube handle) this morning ! At this stage of the game anyone saying these pipes do not work either is being deliberately obtuse or just plain can’t run a chainsaw 😂

    • @SomeGuysSawShop
      @SomeGuysSawShop 6 місяців тому

      @@fabzacres-blackcata straight shot dual outlet actually won’t put perform a properly designed pipe. If you can ever run both you’ll actually immediately notice the difference, bark boxes and straight shots do have their place though.

    • @fabzacres-blackcat
      @fabzacres-blackcat 6 місяців тому +3

      @@SomeGuysSawShop I wasn’t referring to a bark box or Egan pipe … I meant a straight - shot right off the exhaust outlet , o.a.l + or - depending characteristic desired and terminating in a dual outlet either shotgun style or on either side … I’ve made a version I dubbed the Rowdy Pipe for a 562xp and it really pulls quite nicely on that saw - absolutely destroys the stock muffler and noticeably quicker than a gutted muffler too. …. LOUDER for sure however when ya pull up on the pistol grip and dog in with a sharp chain she EATS ! Sold quite a few of em at $75 , actually made a video of the build process IF guy/gal wants to make em themselves … I’m not lookin to make a million $$$ off this , just have some fun 🤩 with them … Who knows , someone may take my design and improve it and send the info back to me ! I’ve sent a version to Dyno Joe for test purposes and the guy from Wild West Garage , Morgan has too … they are loud and they work …. Period 😉
