Brian Ramuno they have Garuda, Ifrit, Leviathan, Ramuh, Shiva, Titan, Carbuncle, Fenrir, Alexander (1-hour ability summon), Odin (1-hour ability summon), Atomos (1-hour ability) and Cait Sith (normal summon and can be used anytime but requires you to beat wings of the goddess). There were plans originally to add Siren. However Siren was changed to be an exclusive boss for Rhapsodies of Vana'diel and they have no intention to make her an avatar.
Download speeds can be sped up significantly for returning players by downloading the FFXI for Windows installer on the Playonline/FFXI website, it's essentially the whole game, with all expansions. If you have an existing account, you can go through that route and not even have to rebuy the game and cut out POL entirely. We might still have to deal with the update/patching process after installation but it will catch you up compared to a cold install from the old installer files.
man... I don't think I could come back, i lived for the exchanges between players. The missions and BCNMs etc with others. The community! Now seemingly you can solo every thing with your own NPCs.
I'm quickly advancing towards level 99. But I have no idea what to do once I get there. My server isn't exactly full of helpful souls. Does anyone have a great website for reading about the end game content?
Yeah, i'm pumped to get back into it, given these changes. It's a 15 year old game. I've got unfinished business and now i know i can do it without wondering how many countless hours i'll have to spend trying to form a shout party in town for 10 year old content. xD
I'm currently waiting for the installation on my PC. was half price on the SE store so I thought I'd pick it back up after all this time... I used to play, played for 10 years, so I'm excited to see how much it's changed and now I can finally do things that I may not have been able to before.. was always out of the loop when it came to end game stuff as it was always very busy and couldn't guarantee being able to log in for like 6 hours every day hahaha. any suggestions on what server to join?? thanks :D
EXP is way faster now, especially if you know what you're doing, and you can get a lot of extra EXP, reducing grinding further, by completing story missions and important quests, instead of just killing things over and over.
Go to Asura > /yell and ask for help and i guarantee you will get plenty (also plenty of dumb comments as well...but also you WILL get help). Also; Try to get into a decent Linkshell, which will greatly help.
Also it seems like there's a lot of extra complex systems that are supposed to make it easier but does they game point you to it, or do you need to discover it on your own? I could see myself playing like i used to without knowing any of the new travel options or spark system
Loona no it doesn't I see where your coming from but look at a game like final fantasy adventure (which is secret of mana 1) is a bad game and the series has been around for years
Loona it's still a final fantasy game in it's own right. Like how final fantasy adventure is really seiken denetsu 3, but is still classified as a final fantasy game. I was talking about classic final fantasy games so they don't have to be from the numbered series like ff adventure or mystic quest they're still final fantasy games and yes spin offs still do count

Great vid! If you want the OG FFXI feel, I recommend Nasomi FFXI private server! :-) pretty fun, and great community of over 400+ on during peak

you should get the ambuscade armor the ilvl 119 its easy to get but to get a whole set its a 15 hour grind to get (15 hours for the +1 armor as well)

Sure - it's simpler to experience than it ever has, although it still rewards some research.

The series is 30 years old, XI has been around for 15, so it's been around for half of the series' lifespan, which certainly counts for something.
