What do you guys think? Should you stop working on yourself and put your life on hold? Obviously we need to take care of ourselves and our families, but I think we should continue to try and create things, learn, etc.

There's no point in putting your life on hold. This is a crazy phase but it will pass soon. Like you said don't watch much news and stress yourself or don't relax too much and regret wasting time. We need to find the sweet spot and grab the opportunity in this calamity. Thank you brad. You're a life saver!

Things are bad , agree. But the heroes are taking care of it. Doctors , Nurses , Sanitation workers and everyone who is involved in this. We can also be a part of it by not coming out of home for a few weeks.
In the mean time , you can definitely make use of the time available in learning stuffs. Thanks Brad for spreading just positivity. More power to you. :)

In years of youtube I hardly ever submitted a comment. I've been around here ever since UA-cam had 5 stars rating and wasn't part of Google. I lost my job thanks to this pandemic but, I sincerely am not panicking over it or getting stressed out or worked up. Instead I took on web development and (in the future) programming. I've been studying religiously from 6AM to whenever I have to stop to do house chores, or when my wife needs the computer for work. I plan on being able to work from home within a year. At least become a fullstack developer in 6 months tops. And I gotta say Mr. Traversy. THANK YOU SO MUCH for being so inspiring. Industrious. Helpful.
I honestly wish the best for you and your family.
Thanks a lot sir and keep up your awesome work.

Honestly I like how Brad never uses a clickbaity title about the name of the current situation in this video.
Even though it's a good thing to inform people about the current situation, most people out there are just using this current situation in a wrong way to cause panic and to gain more clout
He also never mentions the name of the situation in the video. Not even once. He just informs us about how to use this opportunity to be more productive.

When pandemic like this one happens, I respect the doctors, nurses, and researchers who save the world. But then I found people are also depending on all kinds of computer hardware and software to make connections, learn information, get education, and have entertainment. I realized the things we do are also significant. Every job is valuable and meaningful. You are right. This is not a time for being over panic, but a perfect time for reflection and self-growth.

We are still teaching our Code School classes, but just remotely as the college that shares us space is off limits. As a non-profit, we have no sexy online teaching platform so just doing the best we can with Google Hangouts and Slack. It's really, really tough. We are tweaking our approach as we go but some Students are either stressed over what's going on or are treating it like a vacation and not really paying attention and putting in the work.
I have tried to put some time into my own projects as time allows, but I now actually have less free time than I did when I wasn't teaching from home. Biggest bonus is I can just pop up and start class regardless of how disheveled I look since no video, and don't waste 2 hrs just on commute. Still tough, but making the best of it as should all of you.
Thanks for your content Brad. It's really helped me and my Students!

In my opinion, this is the best time to be even more productive. Work on that project or idea you’ve been thinking about of or had for a while. The whole world is on compulsory holiday. Be clean, prayerful and stop panicking about this pandemic. Panicking doesn’t help. Take this opportunity to think about your life and then decide what you want to do with, not just as programmer, but as human being that needs to evolve and not be stagnant in this fast moving world. God help us all. Love from 🇳🇬 to everyone keeps up with this channel. PS: I understand your panic if you or your loved one(s) happen to be affected by the virus, it’s can cause one to lose their mental state, but remember it is not as fatal(that is if you or your loved one is not at an old age) and sympathize wit you dearly. PPS: Brad, for the sake of your students around the world, please leave your beard to grow all that way. I speak for those of us who want to have full beard, but end up growing just a bunch on the side 😂😂😂

I'm a developer and I'm super fortunate and thankful to be able to work from home and do everything full time (my company even let us take home all our equipment so I basically recreated my work setup in my bedroom lol). I'm using this time to go through your course, Modern JavaScript From the Beginning. I am relatively new to programming, and I find that the course does a really good job of covering some of the fundamentals that I hadn't picked up from other good, but non-JS-focused, web dev courses. I think it's fundamentally a subjective answer to the question of what to do in times like this, but at the root of it all is that we can't always control the circumstances of the outside world that are bigger than we are, but we do get to decide each day what we want to do with the time we have. Whatever you decide, you should be trying to bring yourself closer to becoming the person you want to be, and spending your time doing things that you feel are meaningful. For me right now, I'm very fortunate to be largely unaffected by the virus, and my lifestyle is more or less insulated. I want to continue to invest into my future and my lifestyle, because I value my safety and the safety of my family, and I want to see us continue to be happy together. So, I mean, that's sorta my reason for doing this right now. That, and I'm trying to keep my lazy ass off of Halo as much as I can.

Brad, I have been watching your content for a long time, and absolutely love your videos. I have been stating exactly the same things you touched on in the beginning of the video throughout this pandemic. We are all in a stressful situation, but the world is not going to end, so lets stop the fear mongering, it doesn't help anyone. Situations like this remind me why I started software development in the first place. Being able to work from anywhere with an internet connection has always been my dream (and not quite achieved, but I am getting close).
But another great video, thank you so much for being a positive person and reminding us to keep moving forward, instead of being consumed by the stress and panic that is so widespread (and unfounded). I heard the other day government officials (among others across the internet), using the phrase "the new normal". I would like to remind everyone too, this is NOT the new normal, this is an event that is happening right now, but will eventually pass and life will get back to the real normal. Just like Iran and United States did not start up World War 3, this pandemic is not going to wipe humanity off the face of the planet. So let's all keep ourselves, our families, and our loved ones safe, and stop following the greed and panic frenzy like a bunch of sheep.
Thank you Brad! Keep these great videos coming, you're an amazing teacher, and an amazing person. Peace to you and your family!

I agree whole heartedly. I've been in a paid 2 weeks off thanks to all this, so i've just sat here on my computer for at least 8 hours a day working on my own javascript project. I feel like i've learned more in past few days than I had over the past few months.

    Great statement! I work from home for a week.Since I can't go out anywhere and can only support my parents from the outside, I surely started thinking about what I can do with my time. Thanks to your advice, I'll prepare something useful :-) While (ture) {console.log("THANK YOU!!!"}

Been using your Udemy MERN and Node API courses to build my own Slack/Telegram hybrid app, and been pulling my hair out with the database side, but you're getting me through it. Thanks for all of the great content you put out, on all platforms!

LOL I swear when you were offering suggestions to people, when you got to face cam videos, I expected you were going to finish with 'you can make face cam videos if you have a decent face.' Lol, glad you said something else and thanks for the positive video.

Thanks Brad! I have been fortunate enough to be able to work from home. In my downtime, i set up ubuntu on an old pc i had sitting around. Figured out how to set up an apache server and set up ssh tunneling and pm2. I made a twitter app that that searches coronavirus tweets with geolocation and displays them on an openlayers map.

I agree 100%. To me this whole situation feels like some sort of global hyperfocus. Obviously we have to follow the news to orient our behaviour and know what's going on out there, but I feel stressed out on social media right now, because everyone is constantly talking about the virus. Of course, this is understandable and sometimes necessary, but it just keeps distracting me from the things that are important in my life and its not helping when there is nothing productive I can do with all this information. What works for me right now is to limit my time on social media and news to certain short time periods per day, so I don't get overwhelmed by all this panic and actually get some stuff done.

Although it is recommended to stay at home, our boss requires of us to keep showing up at the office to do work that we could easily do from home. And that until someone at the office gets sick. We also have to work double shifts to complete our react-native long term project. If we work hard enough, we'll be able to get our duo apps out there asap. It's a match making platform for home care simplified, to find caregivers in your area willing to help you at home and our boss expects that it can be out soon enough to be used by nurses to provide covid-19 tests to seniors at home so they won't have to gather at one place piling up to get tested. Noble cause, but every day we wonder if the risk is worth the reward...
