Hey Trav, Nice video as always thanks for all the tips.
Also you should also post the timestamp on video description, youtube now use the timestamp on description to outline the section in video. And people are saying youtube is counting this for better visibility and SEO.

Some of these tips I did follow when I started freelancing. They do work great. Most of the things that you said are very important in this business otherwise it can work other way round too. Freelancing is tough but definitely doable once you get used to it. Having strong technical skills and even soft skills does help.

  • @georged.3684

This is another great video and your advice is always on point.
The fact that you are sharing your secrets means you are a great professional, support the "fair play" and also a down- to-earth person.
One of the struggles I have when fishing for clients is the communication part. I feel that in order to do freelance work you have to have what is often called "soft skills". It's hard to make non-technical people understand why it will cost them XYZ dollars to put a form to their website and why it will take me XYZ days for just a couple of inputs and a submit button... But I guess it depends which door you knock asking for work.
Keep your great work man, even you are an example for many of us

I agree with you, too many people just "spam" clients with offers that are all about "me me me"... Instead of making something trully helpfull for your clients, sometimes they might even not know they need your help until you present it the right way.

I love his part with the local businesses. You need to create a need for them to realize that they need new things in their sites, if you are reaching out to them. If they know they need to adjust their sites, they will be reaching out to devs.
It might take time but then get their sites and have a referenced layout of ur works. Make sure you choose the page that they will care the most and show what you can do with it. Even if they reject it nor dont have a plan right now. Keep the layout for the future.
Like selling a house, keep the clients info and keep in touch like Personal greeting on a holiday.

Wow, so early for a video. Brad, you've been so instrumental in helping to grow my skills in development and engineering. One quick question, do you do junior portfolio reviews? I've been developing my portfolio, but I'm not sure yet what is "enough". It would be such a help to have some feedback from actual developers who know what a junior level would look like and be hire-able in terms of skill. Thank you so much :)
