When it comes to beer and food pairings, I think Michael Jackson has a recipe for mole sauce using a dark Mexican lager in one of his books. Bohemian has been my preferred Mexican beer for awhile, but this one is definitely up there.
I’ve never had the chance to try Bohemian, but I’ve heard fantastic things before. So the fact that it’s your favorite too pushes it to the top of the list. Can’t get it in Canada, but will keep my eyes open next trip down south. Dark lager mole sauce… 🤤🤤🤤
🙏 Cheers! Keep an eye open for an upcoming Modelo Especial vs Stella Artois video. Your donation will sponsor it and there will be a special Beer Explorer anointment ceremony for sponsors at the end.
@@BeerBrackets Awesome. Also I drank the Modelo Negra in a 12oz Nucleated Sam Adams Glass. I really liked what it did there. Maybe try it & let me know your thoughts?
yess now you're speaking my language! back home in mexico this beer is everywhere and it's loved. you are right about how good it is on draught, it is a completely different experience you need to try. I will save this episode for friday night beer meditation 😂 will get some negra modelo and enjoy. Cheers beer brackets!
Yes!! We always say, our reviews are best enjoyed with the beer if you can get it. Perfect for Friday night beer meditation. I’m so jealous! Would love to try this on tap one day. How would you say it’s different? More carbonated?
I would love to!! I can’t get any of those in Canada (at least I haven’t seen them anywhere.) But next time I’m down in the states I’ll keep an eye open. Thanks for the recommendation!
You guys inspired me! Went down to the local Ralph's here and bought a 12 for a bbq this weekend. Had one last night to try it out and you weren't lying, it's a great beer. Personally I'd like a little bit more flavor out of it but I agree with your point about this particular beer servicing the market that's seeking out drinkable, refreshing beers.
Yes!! Love it when we can provide some beer inspiration. Could not agree more, I would love a little bit more out of it too but it serves a purpose as an easily accessible, highly drinkable Dunkel which is fantastic to have as an option.
I think it's a wonderful beer, and it's interesting that Canada still gets the older bottle design. In Louisiana, we get the 12oz. bottles and 24oz. cans.
I believe it has to do with the fact that the modelo sold in Canada is imported from Mexico where Grupo Modelo owns the Modelo brand, while the American Modelo is owned by Constellation. It's allegedly the same beer, just different packaging.
In Virginia we don’t get the can, just the 12 pack bottles. Mexican beers are good because German Brew Meisters had spent a lot of time in Mexico in the 1800s
Nice reveiw guys! Loved this beer for many years! To me it's kind of an ultra light version of a porter. Goes Excellent with spicy food, and as I'm finding out right now, Stromboli! 😂
Wish I could have tried the stronger older version! I do really like the drinkable character the Negra has though. It’s a really nice option to be able to turn to when you want something easy drinking but with flavour. If you’re curious, there are some really good stronger, more flavourful dark lagers out there we could recommend! Might be closer to the old Negra you use to enjoy. Thanks for watching! 🍻 Cheers
Just picked some up last night omw Home 🏡 from work (after my original comment about Carné Asada Street Tacos.) I was really impressed. I'm going to be sharing the Beer 🍻 Secret to some of my coworkers. 🎉
Haha spread the secret my friend! So happy you enjoyed them, we definitely do. It’s a beer of a beer pilgrimage for me every time I want to get some, but always so worth it. There are for sure more flavourful Dunkels out there, but the refreshing factor on this one is top notch.
@@apoozeo1715Damn, didn't see you reply until now lol. I've went through many beer phases, from trash malt liquors in my youth, to strictly American swill like Budweiser, Miller ( which is actually decent imo), flavored beers and craft beers. I've grown tired of every style, and can't stand the bitterness of a lot of craft beers. Modelo Negra is just different. I cook with it and drink it with food or by itself. Very few beers can pull all three off. The flavor doesn't ruin the taste of anything you're consuming and the flavor isn't watered down not too strong. In Ohio I find them easily, even in the corner stores.
Lots of people from france and austria settle in puebla mexico after the battle of cinco de mayo..most soldiers were eaither captured or surrendered and settle there ...lots of french ancestry there ..they dont migrate to the u.s they well off ...
I used to walk by the factory in Mexico City, all the neighborhood, I mean several blocks around it smells like recently baked bread when they make this beer.
For me this is my favourite beer here in Mexico, it goes well with everything and you can get it everywhere. Bohemia Oscura it's good but the after taste doesn't suit my palate cuz it leaves a scent or fragance i don't like (for me). During this time of the year Bohemia also brings a beer called Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) it's a Bock style beer and many people seems to like it, if you can get it you should try it, on the other hand Modelo brings Noche Especial this time of the year. And also Modelo has a 3rd Beer that goes between Modelo Especial and Modelo Negra called Modelo Ambar (Vienna style beer) really good one too, and my least favourite its Modelo Trigo (Witbier) I can't say anything about this one cuz a don't enjoy it. Good review and cheers.
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a great comment! We love Vienna lagers so I would be really curious to try the Ambar one day. But I’ve never seen it in Canada where I live, maybe I’ll see it in the U.S. sometime.
I would LOVE to try that one some time. I’ve never seen it in Canada, but will keep an eye open when I’m on vacation in Florida later this year. Thanks for the recommendation!
Such a good point! There really are endless beers out there to talk about. Even though this is our fourth year, getting to just the big brands has been quite the journey and it’s tough to squeeze them all in. Especially because we only film/post once a week. Now that you’ve requested it though Josh, it’s on our radar. Keep an eye on the channel!
Same beer made in the same location! Just different label styles for different countries. Ones sold in Canada need the French language on them and they kept the old style label for those so far.
Want to know a real Mexican beer secret ? This is by far THE best beer for Micheladas. It’s makes micheladas far more flavorful than regular light Mexican lagers - don’t tell them I told you
It can actually be either! It comes down to a Spanish/English thing. For example Modelo’s official English website calls it Modelo Negra. www.modelousa.com/products/negra Cheers and thanks for watching! 🍻
@@BeerBrackets No it can't. I've been drinking Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial for forty years, and we've always called it Negra Modelo. If you want to be a jackass and twist the name around, go ahead BracketsBeer.
Yup, you guys are 100% right. The Modelo USA and wiki page both say both are accepted as official names. Not that it even matters, jesus. @@BeerBrackets
I’m Mexican and I live in Mexico - this is the only beer I drink, ever!
Also, I dislike the one that comes in a can.
So jealous that you have such easy access to this one! It’s not that easy to find in Canada.

Those nucleated glasses are so cool! I don’t have one in my collection right now but can see how it would really compliment a Dunkel like this.

Bohemia is the best of the bunch in my opinion
Is Modelo Familiar like Corona Familiar?
@@treyokelly9662 yeah its a bit darker than the especial but less than the negra
